The Lansdowne, Eastbourne

This is a beautiful hotel, right by the gardens and promenades of Eastbourne's main beach. Service is excellent, food is extremely good and bedrooms a very good size, well furnished and with comfortable beds and chairs. The hotel is very dog friendly, with lounge and dining areas where your dog can be with you and there were many dogs there when we stayed. Help for the disabled was particularly good. They have a disabled lift for access to the building, but whilst we were there this wasn't working, so staff met us at the entrance steps, helped us up or down, and took our mobility scooters through the basement and up in the service lift to the ground floor for us. Nothing was too much trouble for them. There is free disabled parking right opposite the property, and permits are issued for abled drivers just a few yards up the road. A wonderful hotel, and we shall certainly be returning.

The restaurant was lovely and they had a great chef with imaginative ideas. We loved our evening meal at a reasonable price. Several lounge areas and a bar to sit quietly with a drink and a book.very good value hotel. Thankyou.

Beautiful hotel in a great location. Our room was newly decorated, fresh and clean. Hotel reception staff very welcoming. Hotel public rooms are all very comfortable. Only downside is finding free parking, which we did a short walk away. Also, our room looked out of the back of the property over the kitchen facilities but we did choose this cheaper option. Overall a great stay and we would return.

Excellent, charming hotel. Not overly grand, but comfortable, clean, beautiful and extremely friendly. It felt like a home, like I wanted to just hang out in the lounge all day looking at the sea and chatting with people. It had a kind of magic that is hard to describe. The sea view from my room was spectacular, the bed was comfy, everything was as hoped. Above and beyond was the breakfast - easily the best I've ever had, with a ton of options, all of them first class. Dinner in the restaurant was also the best dinner I had in Eastbourne. It's a really great restaurant. The location was wonderful - west of the pier, where it's quieter and more genteel, with a gorgeous lawn right out front, and sea and promenade beyond it. You can walk to the pier in 10 minutes, but I was more impressed by the walk along the beach going the other way, towards Holywell, Italian Gardens and the South Downs. It was all much prettier than I expected. I am already planning my next trip back to the Lansdowne. It was a really great, relaxing trip.

A lovely hotel with all the facilities except a car park. But there's plenty off parking nearby, so not a problem. Our room was clean, bright and had a wonderful outlook. Definitely worthwhile having a sea view room. The bar was well stocked and the restaurant served top quality food which was cooked to perfection. But a special thanks must go to all the hard working staff that made our short stay most enjoyable.

The Lansdowne is an amazing family-run hotel in a great location for exploring the scenic town of Eastbourne. The breakfasts are superb and the traditionally furnished lounge is a tranquil spot to while away some time boosted by the backdrop of sensational sea views. The bar menu offers some nice snacks too.The hotel provides reasonably priced parking permits so you can park opposite the hotel.

I booked The Lansdowne for a spur of the moment short stay and was so pleased I did. All the staff from Reception, Housekeeping, and Restaurant were friendly, helpful and professional. The hotel's communal areas were beautifully decorated and furnished to a high standard and comfortable, as was my seaview bedroom. I am looking forward to booking another stay in the not too distant future.

Really good stay. Great size comfortable room- whole public area spacious. Was a bit worried about dogs staying there but didn't experience any issues. Good bar and restaurant- both necessary as it poured down. Had paid for sea view which would have been lovely had it not been so wet and windy.

Hotel was lovely inside and out, plenty of comfy seats by the window to sit and chat if you didn't want to be in your room. The room was big, clean and well furnished with plenty of storage, the bed was softer than we like but you can't cater to everyone's taste. Parking was out the front with the public but we got an all day pass from the hotel for £2 and got a space okay

I chose the hotel as it was dog friendly and its closeness to the beach. Staff were friendly and helpful and on arrival, I asked for a table for dinner, which was booked, they provided a box of treats for our dog and I paid a small fee for having a dog in the hotel. The room was spacious and clean but we were hoping for a sea view. I think dog friendly family rooms are at the back of the hotel. When we came down for dinner, we were then told that it did not allow dogs and we could eat in the bar, although only at the front of the bar, which was already crowded at this point. The menu was different and as I had wanted something different from a burger and chips as it was my birthday. We decided not to eat there. I found a lovely local Italian restaurant who let me bring my dog and we ate there instead. I was upset because at the time of booking, I wasn't advised that no dogs were allowed and I would need to sit on the edge of the bar area. The staff were friendly and helpful and whilst a hotel that excepts dogs, it did not provide guests with the same options or access to facilities as those without a dog. I would stay again but I may not bring my dog as I felt we got slightly less than guests who didn't have a dog, despite paying extra for having him.

Staff was great, alot of dust in the room, breakfast was very good with great options.

Room 147 had a very nasty smell in the bathroom. Not sure if it was the end of run for sewage waste. It was extremely unpleasant. Notified reception. They said they would inform housekeeping.

Very clean and spacious room.

Th property is kind of aged, need a bit of work to freshen up. We got blocked basin on arrival and toilet on the morning we left. Breakfast was ok, coffee not good. Anyway it was a great weekend no problem to get around on foot.

We have stayed at hotel before and are impressed with helpful staff all friendly and polite. Bedrooms very c!ean and comfortable. Breakfast good would be happy to stag again.

We stayed 2 nights. The room was far too warm and the heating didn’t appear to be on. We opened the window but then we had the whirring sound from a fan or generator most of the night. No view from our window either. No bedside table. On the Saturday parking was an issue and were parked quite a way away. I had breakfast on the second morning and that was great. The staff were friendly and the hotel was clean. But too warm and too noisy.

Well located for sea front, parking opposite (get a ticket at reception) could be limited in summer. Clean and nicely decorated in room, friendly staff, good variety for breakfast and tasty. Room was a little noisy from creaky floorboards in adjacent rooms and banging doors(shame).

Lovely hotel and some characterful communal areas and relaxing lounges. Clean and spacious rooms. Great location. Only issue was a loud fan noise coming from the kitchen - were told it would be switched off by 9pm but it wasn't - but after a follow up call it was switched off at 9:30pm.

Great location and lovely staff. Breakfast was good and friendly atmosphere. Downside was the drab bedroom and bathroom. Mattress was uncomfortable and I could feel the springs.

The room need an upgrade. Lack of A/C in the summer was a challenge. Please get better towels. A disappointment.

Great location by sea front - slightly dated interior and feel to the hotel - maybe trying to keep to a certain look and feel. However everything was clean. Friendly staff, though wi-fi was quite patchy annoyingly.

Beautiful room. Recently refurbished with a sea view. Two radiators to turn up or down to get the temperature to suit you. Lots of little lounges with new furniture tastefully decorated. Despite its size the hotel seemed cosy. Lovely breakfast which was replenished when requested. Friendly staff. We were impressed that the receptionist told us where we could get a free parking spot rather than selling us a seafront parking ticket. We have stayed at many hotels in Eastbourne but this one is our new favourite.

The executive sea view room is spacious with huge windows and a great view of the seafront. Fantastic to just cross the road to go for a swim. Well located for all the town's facilities and walking distance from the train station. Good parking deal at 2.35 per day. Downside was the bathroom is very small, and gets stiflingly hot, and has no space to put your toiletries

It was exactly as I expected for a British seaside hotel. The rooms are very dated and you don’t really want to walk on the carpet but the staff were friendly and attentive and it’s in a great location. Had lunch in the restaurant which was extremely average yet very overpriced. You’re much better going to eat somewhere on Terminus Road about ten minutes walk away.

Wonderful caring staff, hotel has real character. Right on the sea front, walk to town in about 10 minutes. Very well maintained historic buildings. Comfortable bed, kettle in the room. Highly recommend

We loved staying at this historic hotel with the most gorgeous sea views. The staff were very kind and accommodating and always had a smile. Thank you to the staff for making it a wonderful experience and i will definitely be returning.

Good location. Room perfectly acceptable.we arrived a bit early and were told to return at 3. Ridiculous. The bay window in our room had a leak its whole length. In the morning the carpet was soaked through. Breakfast was truly awful. Even though only 4 tables were occupied they forgot my wifes kippers. The cooked breakfast was completely cold and virtually inedible. This was blamed on a shortage of staff.

Everything was great - room very nice. The lady in reception very friendly - check in and check out was quick, straightforward with no wasting time. Bathroom was very clean. Can't ask for more.

My assessment would have been higher but for one thing. My wife and I thoroughly dislike UHT milk and it is our customer to ask for a small jug of real milk for our tea and coffee.This has always been willingly provided in a wide variety of establishments from four star hotels to village pubs. I was therefore staggered, on checkout, to be ask for £1 to pay for the tiny jug of milk we had asked for the previous evening. To add insult to injury the milk had gone off overnight was useless for our tea. Such meanness beggars belief!

This is a nice hotel located perfectly for our theatre trip. Friendly staff, lovely clean room with a sea view, decent food (we ate from the bar menu) and a nice bar. Excellent value one night stay. We will definitely return.

It was exactly as I expected for a British seaside hotel.
