Lovely old hotel in a great central location. We got two room, the deluxe Zimmerman for my husband and me and a standard twin for my two young adult kids. Deluxe room was great. Very spacious. Really liked the bathroom configuration and all of the electrical outlets in good locations. Kids room was tight for them, but perfectly acceptable. Staff was helpful and friendly. View from rooftop bar was to die for. I would stay there again.

We had a very enjoyable stay at Hotel Monopol. The location is excellent — right next to the train station and within easy walking distance of the Old Town, city walls, lake piers, restaurants, and grocery stores, which made exploring Lucerne very convenient. Breakfast was delicious with plenty of options, and the staff were especially friendly and helpful, even assisting us with contacting the airport about our delayed luggage. The only minor downside is that the building is older and some of the furniture feels a bit dated. Like many hotels in Switzerland, the rooms rely mainly on opening the windows for cooling instead of air conditioning, so street noise from the busy area can sometimes be noticeable at night. Overall, the great location, excellent service, and good breakfast made this a very pleasant stay.

The first room had an overwhelming, nauseating odor that smelled strongly of decay and feces. We opened the windows and went out hoping it would air out, but when we returned in the evening the smell was even worse. My wife contacted the front desk. A young lady and Kyle responded. The young lady inspected the room and confirmed the foul smell. They offered us a different room. The second room had its entire view completely blocked by construction tarps and scaffolding. As we began to settle in, I discovered a clear trail of ants crawling across the bed and floor. We contacted Kyle immediately. His response was rude, aggressive, and highly unprofessional. He refused to come up and inspect the infestation himself and dismissively told us those were our only two options: sleep in the foul-smelling room or sleep with the ants. He also refused my request for a manager, stating none was available that night. Emotionally exhausted and unwilling to let our tired young children sleep in such unsanitary conditions, we packed up everything again in the middle of the night and searched for alternative accommodation in an unfamiliar city. The repeated packing, late-night stress, and anxiety of trying to keep the kids calm turned what should have been the relaxing start of our family vacation into a chaotic and disappointing ordeal. We did not use the room or any facilities for even a single night. The next day I spoke with Ms. Bhakya Spieckecmann. She appeared to have received an incompl
