I was not made aware that we were to be given an internal view room. We did not like this room. There was no way to open a window for fresh air. The air conditioning does not switch off. The pool has been drained and we were not made aware of this prior to our visit. We are unlikely to book this hotel again.

A very comfortable stay with a great room on level 6 providing a view of greater Portsmouth (views of Portchester Castle). Great amenities in the room. Good gym with plenty of equipment though pool / spa was not in order and being renovated. Recommended for those with a vehicle as parking is available and close to main roads M27 etc.

Have stayed many times at the Portsmouth Marriott and always found the staff very friendly, the rooms in excellent condition and the food outstanding ! However this time it was like a different hotel. I had booked the large suite on the 7th floor, on arrival found the bins in room still dirty and full, no hairdryer in room, only one bathrobe in the wardrobe and that had clearly been used and was marked and dirty. Housekeeping eventually came and replaced it but it took 3 phone calls but her attitude was clearly very embarrassed. Evening meal was was the worst ever waited for over 45 minutes it was disgusting, the truffle ravioli served cold and congealed but boiling in centre clearly microwaved when brought to attention of server was told that the ovens had been turned off for an hour due to needs of some special function but she could get it reheated we declined. No offer of a different choice or deduction from bill. The servers were clearly under immense pressure as though there was staff shortage. There was a "Prom" function going on and the music was defafening in the dining room where most couples just wanted a pleasant evening meal not counting the "prom" teenagers running in and out through the bar / dining area all the time. Later that even being still hungry then found out the room service app did not work ordered on phone via reception but the order never arrived. The buffet breakfast was however outstanding. Services level clearly dropped overall a very poor stay.

The TV (Samsung smart) wasn't connected to the internet, nor could we connect our devices via HDMI cable or bluetooth, which was inconvenient. When we asked the staff at the reception, we were told that the TV is not smart and that they can't do anything about it. The staff also gave us directions to a nearby food place, which we appreciated. Finally, for breakfast - that we had paid for extra - we were told upon check-in that it lasts until 11 AM. On Monday morning we arrived a couple minutes after 10.30 AM and we were told that we were late and that on weekdays breakfast is until 10.30 AM. Despite the fact that we were only a couple minutes late, the staff did not seem to care. They told us we could grab some coffee and a couple pastries, even though there were plenty other stuff still in place. All in all, we enjoyed the room, but factoring in the details, it wasn't the best treatment that we expected and paid for.

The bathroom good only gtipe is the toilet was so close to bath everytimr you sat down your derriare scraped against the sharp corner..also thr bed was huge but very hard it was like lieing on a table plus the pillows were far too soft but thats preference i suppose. Room was hot we turned air con down to its lowest but stil dry and hot uncomfortable so i did not sleep well at all.food good at buffet. Staff friendly.

The lounge, bar and room were great. For a business hotel it was surprising that the WiFi required £12-£16 per day for use, despite being a Marriott member. Apparently it should have been free but the option wasn’t available from room 711.

Nice large hotel, prompt check in and out. Rooms well equipped, spacious and clean but an overly firm bed and with the AC not working correctly a poor nights sleep was had. Located by a busy road junction, with windows open there is constant noise of traffic, loud cars and police sirens.

We stay often. Bar staff and reception very helpful. Room not the best as facing the courtyard which means:- no natural light, you can’t open curtains as people can see through nets and noise from below. Also, check out is 12, cleaners knocked at 10am - get lost!!

Would not consider the Portsmouth Marriott to be a four star hotel. At check-in, we were informed of a £50 deposit that needed to be paid, which I had not seen listed anywhere when I booked. Not sure if having two children made the receptionist decide to add it on, but felt unnecessary. The beds were so uncomfortable. My 11 and 5 year old had no complaints but my husband and I both had an awful nights sleep. Parking is £5, wifi is extra… A lot of money making schemes that I don’t expect from a so-called four star hotel. Did not eat at the hotel, so unable to comment on food.

Reception understaffed with one person. Very to the point, not friendly. We were given complimentary WiFi code only to find out that when setting up there was a £12 charge! That is not complimentary, I nearly fell over a plate and glass that was in the corridor when we went out for the evening at 5, when we got back at 11 it was still there? All the staff seemed miserable. We ordered a taxi through reception who told us it would be 5 mins but we waited over half an hour before we decided to order one ourselves. No atmosphere, dark and dingy. We won’t stay at this hotel again.

Staff welcoming and helpful. Room had a slight smell of damp but nothing horrid. TV had basic channels. and no smart features. Room service was fine, not cheap. It was a practical solution for our purpose. Not great value for money, but there were no family rooms elsewhere despite booking very early.
Staff welcoming and helpful. Room had a slight smell of damp but nothing horrid. TV had basic channels. and no smart features. Room service was fine, not cheap. It was a practical solution for our purpose. Not great value for money, but there were no family rooms elsewhere despite booking very early.

We stay often. Bar staff and reception very helpful. Room not the best as facing the courtyard which means:- no natural light, you can’t open curtains as people can see through nets and noise from below. Also, check out is 12, cleaners knocked at 10am - get lost!!

Stayed overnight at the weekend and very pleased with the Hotel. Room was spotless clean, fridge was useful and good to have a in room safe for any valuables. Check in was quick and easy, breakfast was really good and hotel staff were welcoming. There are a few eateries and shops within walking distance and Portsmouth centre is only a 10 minute drive away. Would recommend this Marriott close to Portsmouth.

Breakfast was included in my room selection and it was delicious and plentiful. You cannot go wrong by including it. We enjoyed our stay in Portsmouth!

I really liked this property and would stay again - clean, well-run and with reasonable parking and nice location - the restaurant slows down dramatically if they get a bit busy, but the food is good and breakfast buffet is nice.

The room was clean and to a high standard. The AC was a little weak as had to keep turning down to get cool. The dinner prices were high so decided to eat next door. The breakfast buffet was okay but had to wait 10mins for poached eggs and it was not busy. Plenty of parking which is great but have to pay £5 on top of bill!

The room was very comfortable and light. Bathroom was clean and purposeful - could do with a grab rail to make getting in and out after shower a bit safer. We were disappointed with the restaurant. Limited choices and not great quality, pretty expensive for what it was (especially the breakfast) and slow, disorganised service (evening). I would stay here again but I not use the restaurant again.

The room and its amenities were too cramped. Air-con controls were extremely fiddly. There was no choice between cold and warm, as a result cold air kept blew my head when sleeping. Restaurant served very mediocre dishes.

1. On check in, the receptionist did not enter my credit card details into her system. On finishing my meals in the restaurant, I signed the cost of the meals on my room card. After 10pm whilst in bed, I received a call from reception stating that I had not paid for the meals. I had to get dressed and go to reception to give them my credit card which was entered into her system. I returned to my room. During the night, I received a note under the room door stating that my card had been declined. Nothing was said to me before about this. However, in the morning the reception entered the same card onto her system which was accepted. 2. The restaurant's evening meal was not of the standard I would expect for this hotel. Several dishes were not available and in reality all that was available was generally either steak or burgers and the latter were poor. I would not eat there again .Poor.
