Catalonia Royal Bavaro - All Inclusive - Adults Only

The initial room - 4230, was in horrible condition. Concerns were brought up multiple times to staff. They seemed unbothered and maintenance would do the bare minimum to rectify issues. Until videos and pictures were brought forward of the issues in the room to the Front Desk Manager, they recrified by moving us to a Premium room. The premium rooms are renovated rooms with updated amenities and decor. Dont fall for the ratings of this resort on the Adult side. If you arent paying top dollar for the top rooms, the resort treats you as a lesser person. Food is sub par but booking for seatings is horrendous. There are never any availability. We booked all our meals first day and found that none of the Adult side restaurants had availability over a 7 day period. So, when choosing the Adult side with no availability in the restaurants you then are eating at the restaurants or buffets on the main resort. The beach area - best I have been at. Minus the daily sea weed wash, the staff and workers are very attentive in cleaning. Plenty of seating with lots of palm trees or umbrellas for shade. Beach is small but very pleasant. Water is very shallow with multiple sand bars and lush sea grass. This was both positive and negative to the daily swims. The Snack Truck was a huge hit! Servers are many on the beach and very attentive. Pools are great but make sure you are early in the morning to snag a seat.

I love my pool villa en the adult side 3405. Stunning afternoon view from my private pool. The waitress brought me drinks. Had amazing breakfast, lunch and dinner right across from it at Beloved Restaurant. Fun beach party, fun white party. Room service in less than an hour.

Small resort! 2 pools, small beach area that was very shaded, but nice area to cool off and grab a snack from the food trucks! Drinks were tasty but sometimes staff weren’t very friendly when ordering a drink despite us tipping. A lot of older couples and not much for entertainment at the main pool during the day. There is no lunch or dinner buffet at this resort, only at the neighboring resort which was not ideal when we just wanted a quick snack. That being said, all food options were very tasty and nice variety for a la carte. Rooms were clean, house keeping was great. We had no hot water however for 3 days even though we brought it to their attention multiple times. Our fridge also did not work and they failed to fix that during our 8 day stay. The gym is small but functional and we had a blast playing pickleball and basketball in the neighboring resort. I came here with my partner and we are 31/32 and enjoyed the relaxation, sunshine and small size of this resort. If there’s a good deal on this resort in the future I would probably come back, however wouldn’t rave about anything in particular.

The swim up bar was very good and the bartender ls are efficient. The room was clean and tidy. Very efficient. The balcony view is magnificent ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Excellent Stay! My husband and i had an amazing experience at Catalonia Bavaro The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful throughout our stay. The rooms were spotless, spacious, and very comfortable. The breakfast buffet had a great variety of fresh options. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Punta Cana

My wife and I stayed here for our honeymoon and absolutely loved it. We had a private suite with our own pool — clean, comfortable, and the perfect place to unwind in the afternoon once the sun warmed the water. The room was slightly dated but spotless, and the nightly turndown service made it feel extra special. The main pool with the swim-up bar was a daytime favorite, and the resort’s nightlife was great with evening shows by the pool and events in the piano bar. The restaurants offered plenty of variety and flavorful dishes — just be sure to make your reservations early. The staff were outstanding, friendly, and attentive; we especially want to thank Berenici for her warm, energetic personality. The beach was beautiful and well-maintained, with staff raking seaweed daily. Beach vendors do walk by, but they’re polite and not pushy. The coffee shop was excellent, and there’s even a small casino on-site as a fun little perk. Overall, a fantastic adults-only resort we’d love to return to!

Stay well away from this place. The beach is more like a lake or swamp. The sand is hard and brown. The pool area is a joke, you have to wake up at 5am to get a pool bed. Staff plays obvious favourites with timeshare holders. No 24hr bar. You have to wait until 10am to get a Bloody Mary or mimosa poolside. The bed in your room will be a pit full of spikes. I could go on and on. However, there are so many bad things; I’ll focus on the down right nasty! Duck, geese, egrets (large pelican like birds) They hang out by the only snack bar that’s open late right by the main pool. They poop all over the pool deck and restaurant. They then jump in the poop and on top of tables and chairs. Omg the amount of people sick is astronomical; my friend included. Two days lost in the bathroom for unknown food-borne illness. The trip starts with a con-job the concierge who is supposed to be in charge of your comfort, knowledge of the property, and safety; they are really just timeshare salespeople. They pray on the weakest most timid guests and hammer them into $30k timeshares that you can buy for $1000 if you negotiate. Many reported wasting 2-3 hours with these yahoos … we had to run away from ours he was calling our room waking us up to make his pitch on the second day…. Good thing we overheard what happened to another couple and ran for the hills. You too should run and not walk; as far away from Catalonia as possible!

Grounds are well maintained. They are currently renovating, so some Noice and obvious areas being worked on. But otherwise nice.

Beautiful beach! Always chairs available and never too busy, no matter the time of day. Two pools - one more serene, one definitely a party pool (with swim up bar). Food was good in all restaurants. Staff very friendly and helpful. Room was clean and comfortable. Only drawback is that our room was right by the evening entertainment, which was loud. We didn't ask to switch or anything, just used earplugs. Would definitely come back!

Overall, Catalonia Royal is okay. We booked this resort based on the promise of snorkeling off the beach, which was not possible. I would not recommend going to this resort in September/ October as it is seaweed season. The beach was covered in rotting seaweed. The water was murky, stinky and overall not swimmable. The resort from a first glance looked nice, but once you get to your room, you’re hit with a damp musty smell that does not go away. The smell of wet mold is most noticeable in the casino at the other Catalonia, which explains why it’s empty most nights. Facilities seem to be dated and could use maintenance. Pools were clean but good luck finding an umbrella at chairs, because they’re either nonexistent or people have reserved their chairs at 7am with towels and personal items. Overall, I don’t understand how this resort is even ranked as 8.2/10… I would say accurately it is more like 6.8/10. Out of the resorts we’ve stayed in Punta Cana, this one ranks the lowest and would not recommend to friends or family.

Room was clean and well supplied

Air Conditioner was out two of the five days. Ceiling was leaking and had paint falling.

The property was great the only thing we had a problem with were roaches in our room. I killed 5 one night and after seeing one or two the first night we closed our suitcases to keep out towaways

Staff was nice and professional. Hotel was really clean.

There we ants in my bed in my hotel room, and I switched rooms to give it a second chance and there was a cockroach in the second room…a live one. Very unappealing, I checked out early. Would not recommend!

Housekeeping does a remarkable job keeping the entire resort spotless. Food was delicious as well. We enjoyed our room in one of the privileged suites and the beds were very comfortable. The resort is quiet day and night with activities ending at 10 pm. We also took advantage of being able to dine two nights at the family friendly resort next door. This was my second time staying here and would recommend Catalonia Royal Bavaro to anyone!

Our rooms had cockroaches, sinks would not drain, ac would not go below 78 degrees and the fans did not work. Getting a room change was also a hassle even though we had bugs everywhere. Plumbing was not great, we would just hope the toilet flushed and the refrigerator and tv did not work. The food was not great, there was maybe one or two good restaurants but the buffets had stale food and you could tell it was sitting out and multiple people in our group got sick. If you wanted to order room service, sometimes you would get it sometimes you wouldn’t. It was almost impossible to get ice, I had to walk to the front desk and argue to get it everytime we wanted ice because if you call the service desk it was not coming. The beaches were disgusting, it was seaweed season but they didn’t clean it often and the pictures show these clear blue water beaches and that is not at all what they have. They have a small sliver of blue water and it’s so crowded to get to that area and then on our last day there were animal intestines floating everywhere. The solicitation on the beach is non stop so you never get a moment to relax- they even bother you if you are inside the resort at a bar. The only good things were things you had to pay extra for. Also if you book an excursion you may get booked for a day that has already passed and they won’t offer refunds or apologies. They also watch over your shoulder as you put reviews for their resort and hound you to do so. Would not recommend.

We did like the pools and the staff…but we didn’t like the rooms that they tried to put us into because they looked nothing like the photos online. The first room smelled musty and paint chips were constantly falling down from the ceiling. Also the room was still unclean. They didn’t have another room for us that day and we had to sleep in that room for the night anyway. They told us they would upgrade us to another room but when we got that room the next day the door to the room was sticking when you scan your key and also the a/c unit was blowing barely….not cold at all. Also in the shower, we could not adjust the water to the temperature. The water was up and down the entire time. Just horrible for the price we spent and the only thing we could get in return was a sorry for the inconvenience

Service was good, food ok. I upgraded my room and despite that , the room was very outdated and the AC was not working. I requested a room change and they would not accommodate the request. Good ambient.

My hotel room gave me so much trouble. My toilet wasn’t working my phone didn’t work and the hot water only worked sometimes. At some point I couldn’t even get in my door due to dead batteries.

The air conditioning didn't cool properly; it remained at room temperature even when the control was lowered. The beds were too firm, making it difficult to rest. There weren't enough shade in the pool areas.

Only rooms need to be updated

The rooms could use some updating, but it had a nice two-story floor plan with a large private pool. Food was just okay. Overall we had a very relaxing vacation. I’m not sure if I would go back if we didn’t have a room with a pool again.

Staff was amazing! It was a great resort for the money. Staff was helpful and attentive, food was OK, Drinks were bartender based. Property was amazing. Massage 10/10!!!! Downfall was in our room there was no wifi unless on the balcony, no hot water in the tub but shower was hot. Over all I would return to this resort!

Check in was at 3, we didn’t get into room till 4… We were ‘suckered’ into a sales pitch the first day we were there that wasted 3 hours of our day. Non-stop annoyance solicitations on the beach. Couldn’t even go in the ocean due to mounds of seaweed and attempted cleaning trucks going by during the day instead of doing it at night…. just very disappointing to fly all this way and not be able to go into ocean. Room bathroom needs a lot of grouting and misc maintenance that doesn’t look nice. Flaking paint by the tub and broken concrete by the swim up. We enjoyed our vacation for the most part, but these types of things irk us. We save up every year for a grand vacation and hope to get our money’s worth. Some things fell a little short here.

Primeramente cuando llegue me dieron una habitación con todo dañdo el televisor el aire la nevera , luego de 3 días llamar y comunicar el inconveniente llegó una prima q se hospedó junto con nosotros y ella logró que nos mudaran el resto de los días a otra habitación la cual si estuvo todo bien por eso al salir del hotel dejé la encuesta de 5 estrellas y el personal q nos atendía en los restaurantes fueron excelentes pero los que se encargaban de lo que sucedió en la habitación les hubiese puesto 1 estrella por mantenerme por 3 días con esos inconvenientes , personal de limpieza también fue excelentes , y los que nos atendieron en los restaurantes todo bien , pero no creo que volvería a ese Resort.

I don’t like the service system. I was not able to register myself in the system and I have to come every time today counter to reserve any restaurants and then when I stop by Restaurant, they couldn’t able to see the reservation since I was not able to get confirmation there was a problem with flight which they fixed the issue for the next day but the hotel took the money and Expedia keep requesting them to at least give extra night While they paid, but they were not compromising or giving any kind of benefits and this stuff was not knowledgeable a lot so anyway, it was very hassle for me too going back-and-forth with the issue with the extended

As a native Spanish speaker, I will say this hotel had such rude staff and poor communication between staff. Usually speaking the language gets you better treatment, that wasn’t the case during my stay. The staff on the family side was much more helpful and friendlier.

Pro: Property was easy to navigate. Room was clean Con: room service was terrible. 1st night I called 3 times in 2.5 hrs and never received ordered food. 2nd night - received order but it wasn’t what I ordered. 3rd night they were delivering and food when I never made an order. We couldn’t get a reservation the 1st two nights this eating buffet. The cab/private shuttle pickup service was silly. We were told to be at lobby for pickup. After 40 min of waiting our private shuttle driver contacted us and stated resort doesn’t allow them onto property. When I spoke with desk they said they’d give us a ride to the gate of the resort. Very unprofessional

Had a 4-night stay. There is no complimentary pick up from the airport, which was okay since the taxi was not expensive. Arriving at the resort was nice; they give you a welcome drink and hold your luggage while you wait for the room. All the staff is super nice! Our room was nice and we had a cool view of the resort. The room was sound proof which helped when there were late events by the pool. There was something new to do daily, and they celebrated both Canadian and American independence days. The property is well maintained and clean. They stock the minibar daily and housekeeping is pretty quick! The waitstaff is also very accommodating. I didn't really care for the fact that you have to make reservations for dinner every night by 6pm. If you forget, there's only one option available to you. Room service was only 3 options for appetizers, 2 entrées and, 2 dessert; that was kinda lame. Drinks flow for sure, just don't ask for wine! They charge extra. I couldn't enjoy the beach because there were salesmen coming up every time I blinked. They also have a sales pitch in the lobby (time share/vacation club, whatever you want to call it). I went for the free massage gift but unfortunately couldn't useit since the person logged the coupon incorrectly....a waste of two hours of my time. Probably would not stay again unfortunately.

You can only use the jacuzzi by the spa if you either pay for a massage OR pay $15.00 per hour which is ridiculous. We did find the resort overall to be very clean and the cleaning staff were very thorough. They also do try to get you to attend a breakfast for some sort of timeshare thing which we did not do thanks to being warned by the reviews. The pool areas and layout of the resort are very beautiful but def need updating and better maintenance. I like that you are able to use the family side of the resort while staying on the adult side but I don't think we would stay here again - really boils down to not enjoying the food.

Liked the adults only. Food was good at this property, but at the Catalonia next-door it was very limited and hard to get a decent meal at the buffets. I like the two pools I like the quiet pool by the ocean. I did not like the people trying to sell something every two minutes. They were a nuisance. The quality of the ocean has really gone downhill from previous years due to excessive growth of grass in the ocean and the seaweed problem. They did clean up the seaweed almost twice a day.

Property qas clean and staff was friendly. Our cleaning lady adela was amazing . the area around was gorgeous however if you have a driver you have to pay the scurity guard to allow entry. For me i paid the driver to pick me up at hotel. The guard made us walk almost 2 miles outof the property to get to our driver to take us to airport or any location outside the resort. I will not go here again.

The resort is absolutely gorgeous, 10/10 customer service and communication. The food was actually better than expected as well as we had a chance to try almost every restaurant on the adult side. I will say that our only complaints were that the TV wasn’t working and they don’t allow Ubers to pass the gate to pick you up if you’re leaving the resort. The sound on the TV was working, but we couldn’t see anything. We spoke to front desk about 3 times about this issue and nothing was ever done, no accommodations given. Other than that, the experience was beautiful and the views were stunning.

The resort and our room were beautiful! The only downside was the seaweed on the beach. Made it difficult to enjoy the water.

The resort is very good in general. It's about 20 minutes from the airport. It's very clean. The staff are very helpful (always available). There's a superb, well-appointed beach with a superb view of the ocean. Restaurants are good (food generally good). Room service is also good. I find, however, that it lacks pools (only 2). They will try to sell you a VIP membership. After check-in, you'll be offered a private tour of the land with breakfast. Then, a salesperson will take 2 1/2 hours of your time to convince you to buy a very expensive membership. You don't have to buy. Just say no politely and move on. You can also refuse the private tour right from the start.

Property was nice but resort has contract with cab company. They will not let you take a uber, will make you walk to the gate (15 min walk) in heat or rain. They get a commission from drivers.

It is beautiful here with a very friendly staff. Buffet was no the best however the steakhouse and Italian restaurant is worth getting a reservation

Customer service is unmatched!! i loved everyone i came into contact with. Food was a little hit or miss depending on where you ate at. Room service sucked, food was nasty and if you ordered too late at night they would forget your order if you didn’t call the front desk. Housekeeping cleaned our rooms everyday and they did a phenomenal job!! Maintenance cleaned our pool daily and fixed our little problem we had with ants on our patio. Would definitely stay again!!

The good: The food was great, with many restaurant options. Cocktails were decent. Entertainment was great. The access to the entire facility including the family side was great. Having 3 large pools to choose from was excellent. The bad: Lackluster service. I once asked for a juice at breakfast and never got it. The staff was often seen talking and joking around at the buffet instead of taking care of the guests. Some were unprofessional and I heard them cursing in Spanish (maybe they thought no one would understand them). Also, even though we liked the restaurant food, the QR code to make reservations never worked. We had to go to guest services. Lastly- I was disappointed our balcony had no view and was blocked off with a black screen due to construction. The place could definitely use some remodeling.

Overall, the food was absolutely delicious. We really enjoyed the meals during our stay. However, the service left a lot to be desired. Everything moved very slowly, and it felt like most of the restaurants and the reception area were understaffed. Communication was also a challenge, as many staff members either didn’t speak English or were not comfortable doing so. The beach was a bit disappointing. It’s extremely shallow — you can walk all the way to the edge of the swimming area and back without ever getting into deep water. The beach was also quite dirty, with a lot of seaweed piled up no matter what time of day it was.

The place was decent. The room was very clean could use some upkeep. Biggest complaint some of the food places. Breakfast was always good no issues there. Dinners were average at best. Couple of places I wouldn’t go to again. Sorrento’s was disgusting. Cold food, hot desserts. Stay away. The staff were just amazing. Are room was always clean but we were not pigs. With being fall the beach was not to our liking. The complimentary bar in the room was not a bar. It had 2 beers a couple of sodas and water. Just pick and choose where you eat. Good luck making reservations for dinner.

Overall great hotel. The women that cleaned the room did a great job every time. Food was great. I will say as soon as you check in book your dinners especially for the steakville some restaurants book faster. Great activities throughout the day. I do wish the adult side was a little bigger because the family side had everything but you get to go to both sides. If they ask you about a welcome gift, they will get you to sign up as a member if that’s not something your interested in say no straight up so you don’t wait your time

This property is adults-only, which we appreciated. The dining reservation system was a highlight—super easy and convenient. We were able to book all of our restaurant choices within minutes. The food itself was average, and the drink selection was just okay. Our first room was spacious and clean, but unfortunately, the air conditioning wasn’t working. We were moved to another room where the AC wasn’t much better, though we managed to make it work. The mini fridge also didn’t function properly, so nothing ever stayed cold. One major downside was the constant beach vendors. They came by nonstop trying to sell shells, braids, massages, jewelry—you name it. It was so frequent that we eventually had to move all the way back to the last row of loungers just to get a break. Overall, our stay was fine but nothing standout. Some good conveniences, but also some frustrations that took away from the experience.
