Great location in the heart of the city, we were attending a concert at Bramhall Lane which was about a 20 minute walk away. Attempted to park at hotel however no spaces left. Not a problem, parked at Furnival Gate NCP 5 mins walk up the road (and turned out to be £10 cheaper too so will use again in future). Helpful and polite staff, lovely hot shower but the hotel and rooms were just too hot. Did try turning room temp down using in room thermostat but it was already at lowest temp so has to sleep with window all night which meant we heard a lot of road noise. Didn't spoil the stay but a fan in the room would have been helpful. We paid £75 for 1 night in a standard Queen room on hotels.com, on the way out I noticed a tariff board showing £199 standard room rate if booked direct. In my opinion, I would not pay that to stay here but I guess in peak season (Christmas etc.) and given its location to city centre, Crucible, theatre etc. some people would find that reasonable. Overall, would stay again but not even try hotel car park at £18pn when NCP is half the price, didnt have breakfast at hotel as Wetherspoons 5 minute walk away and much cheaper and will have to bring a fan!

Stayed over after a works meal. The location is good but the hotel is tired. The bed/mattress was extremely uncomfortable and I did report it. You were in a grove and no support. The swimming pool is tiny and not worth it.

Car park very confusing, signage doesn't make sense. Entry lobby, bar etc clean, modern and really nice. We checked in when there was no queue, sadly the chap checking us in did so in a manner that seemed to imply we'd interrupted him doing something more interesting. Higher level corridors, and the room, carpet dated and sporting loads of stains. The room (Executive), dated, artex-style walls, under the bed thick on dust and with a food wrapper Large TV with freeview facing neither the bed nor sofa. Bed really uncomfy, with very soft pillows (great if that's your thing, it's not ours). Had a drink in bar, barman very freindly and helpfull. Really good breakfast range, pastries under hot lamps a nice touch. Sadly, while looking good, cooked elements were bland, sausages had little taste, bacon took a lot of chewing, hash browns overcooked, scrambled egg very dry, beans good though. Didn't go in, but the gym looked good, as did the pool, although tiny. Overall 'fine' mixed with dissapointing

It was ok, over priced for what it was. There is a pool but be warned you have to book and there is a maximum of 7 in the pool which you are not told about until you get there. The room was very hot and stuffy and the floor boards where very creeky.

The hotel lobby and bar look nice but the rooms are very dated. The bathroom and toilet are separate which is strange. The bed was rock hard as were the pillows although the room was quiet. It is very convenient but parking is a problem, we had to park in the Q parking which was £23 a day.

The property needs updating and the room is a bit small. However, the bed was extremely comfortable and breakfast was very good, a good variety of food options; fresh fruits, cereal, full English with vegetarian options. And a lovely swimming pool. The property is in the heart of town so plenty of nightlife. The train station is within walking distance and the university is right there. One major downside is the car park… better to use one nearby, a lot cheaper too.

Common spaces of this hotel are lovely but room is very tired with old furniture, very dirty carpet and old bathroom with toilet separated from sink and bath. Service was good and polite but I wouldn't stay again as it is not a good value for money.

The reception guy let down the first initial impression. If you can’t smile and be friendly, you should not be front of house! Communal areas clean, but room we stayed in was tired and in need of a refurb.. stains all over the carpets.

The hotel is well located. 7 minutes walk from Sheffield train station. In a quiet and safe neighbourhood with places to dine in. The hotel itself needs some serious upgrading and cleaning. There was a damp smell in the room. Mould and rust in the bathroom. Shower head covered with limescale. Paint peeling off. Toilet seat wobbly. These are very visible things , so one can only wonder why they are not addressed?

Staff were perfunctory; they don’t seem happy. Alina, however, was very kind and printed out our match tickets for us; we appreciated that. On checkout, we weren’t asked about our stay. Room was cleaned each day, but towels were missing, bin liner wasn’t replaced, toilet roll not replenished; the room was not cleaned to an acceptable standard. The room was comfortable, but definitely on the warm side (there is a fan, though). The positives are the location and the size the room.

Great stay, perfect location being minutes from train station, (exit station and walk straight up the incline). Bus station round the corner. Right next to Christmas markets, peace gardens and botanical gardens (use entrance at the side of reception). Room great and bed very comfy and room quiet, only crtisim was the separate toilet with no sink or ventilation. Breakfast and food good.

The room was dated, the bed was too hard and the hot water was almost non-existent. Housekeeping left our door open and unlocked while we were out one day, and the food both at the restaurant and at the breakfast buffet was nothing to write home about. And FYI: the hotel is also on top of a hill.

It was an adequate place to stay for a night. A bit too warm in the room, opened a window only to find out that I think perhaps the kitchen exhaust is nearby. Found a fan in the closet so that was pretty useful. The building is dated but maintained. The breakfast was not the best, unfortunately.

Beautiful lobby, but really old dated rooms which let it down. Breakfast was really good. The room itself didn’t match the high standards everywhere else. The toilet was in a separate room to the main bathroom, with no sink. The textured wallpaper in the room resembles the exterior walls of a 1980s house. Modernisation is definitely required. Couldn’t fault the location. Perfect for both the train station and the city centre

Somewhat understaffed but otherwise a good stay. There were a number of parties taking place and during breakfast there seemed to be 1 staff member rushing around to accommodate everyone in an overfilled restaurant. We had to take our breakfast into the bar! I was so impressed by that staff membets politeness and pace given the chaos, that I asked for her name, Aaliyah should someone at the hotel want to thank her for her amazing work!

The TV in my room wasn’t working, and I asked for it to be fixed 4 times. Each time I was told it would be sorted and it never was. I was also told I could request late check out up until 12pm on the day of check out and then on the day of check out I was told this wasn’t the case! We were forced out early after needing more time! We were not even offered an apology by the manager for any of these issues. A very bad stay.

I don’t have anything good to say about this hotel stay unfortunately. I had got back into my hotel room at around midnight and decided to call it a day. I would say I was just starting to get off to sleep when I hear the door to my hotel room open and a man came in supposedly thinking this was his room. I was startled. A huge error from the hotel which led me to not sleep for the remainder of the night of fears something like that would happen again. This was to apparently be followed up but I haven’t heard anything from the hotel themselves. What apparently happened was I was not properly checked in by the hotel staff when I arrived at around 3pm. My room was then supposedly vacant and so another man took it and was able to get in while I was asleep. Very, very disturbing. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel to anyone and I have yet to hear from any staff member that sympathised with me for the trauma that I endeavoured.

I never leave bad reviews, but this was booked as a treat for my son's graduation and we wanted a bit of a treat. Long queue for check in, so waited at the bar instead. No staff appeared, waiited for 10 mins crockery piled up on the tables. Asked member of staff, they located bar manager and we got served. Checked in at 3.45, our rooms still weren't ready. They found us alternative rooms, went up, ours was ready but our son's room still hadnt been cleaned. Luckily he didnt need it straight away. We didnt say anything as it wasnt really an issue as he was heading out. Our room was very clean, but sound of a fan outside meant we couldnt open the window, on one of the hotest days of the year. Went for another drink, still piles of dirty glasses everywhere. A new member of staff arrived and was horrified at the state of it and set to tidying. Breakfast at 6am, no one there, lights off, ok it was only a 15 min wait, but we needed an early get away. Breakfast good, marking of vegan and non vegan sausages would be helpful. Theres nothing inherently bad about this hotel, its just woefully understaffed, needs renovating and many of the staff there just shouldn't be in hospitailty. They're just not interested in you having a good stay! Checkout summed it up, no asking of whether you had a good stay, just took the key card and gave a half hearted smile. If youre after an average stay in an average hotel with mainly lack lustre staff then this is a great place to stay.

Lovely & clean & great location for Dining & Shopping. Transport links are good on buses & tram. Hotel reception & restaurant nice & spacious, although kept waiting 30 mins as everyone checking in at same time. Comfy Bed & clean room. Pool too small & only allows 8 in at once. Tiny changing room.

Hotel was lovely on site parking friendly team on check in. Room was spacious clean huge tv. The bar area was sleek n modern with happy hour between 5:30 & 6:30 pm. The only disappointment was the breakfast buffet in the morning, the greeter didn’t seem that interested n just told us to sit anywhere and no instructions on the buffet or where things were, once we’d found everything ourselves we gathered up a plate of lovely looking breakfast from the buffet to found when we sat down its was all luke warm at best some items we’re actually cold. However this was the only dent in an otherwise lovely stay and won’t put us off staying here again. We will just go out for breakfast in city centre as so much surrounding this ideally placed hotel.

Very good location , looking a little tired now. Breakfast was very poor , the sausages had bits of gristle in which was a right out off. Overall breakfast is a 3/10. Parking virtually next door , although no discount offered by the hotel, so it was a little on the pricey side. Location 10/10 overall 6/10 (£156 for the night for one person - Dec 2024)
