Balmoral Lodge Hotel

This is a nice hotel, excellent value for the price. Friendly welcome - not particularly by design, I was right on the nice and early check in time of noon and my room was ready. Ample off road parking. A little out of town if you're walking but "local" supermarkets are nearby. Convenient for the coast, RSPB Reserve. Again, for the price paid it was great value and I would definitely stay again.

A well located hotel near the town centre. It was comfortable and had free on site parking. The room was clean and spacious but in need of refurbishment as it is looking dated.

Good just disappointed the bar wasn’t open around 9pm when got back wanted a few drinks

The hotel is clean but dated. This is one of those hotels where if £1,000 was spent on each room then they could charge an additional £30 per night and recoup their outlay in a matter of months. The shower barely wets you, the floorboards squeaked, or had holes. There was no sound proofing between floors. The bar and restaurant was not open, which was a shame because if the food in the morning was anything to go by the dinners would be fantastic. That said, for the price it was okay and the breakfast was excellent.

Wow! A great budget hotel that is worth every penny! We stayed in 2 of the garden rooms which had lovely patio doors overlooking the garden. The bathrooms are a little tired but the rooms are spacious and the beds comfy. Free wifi and parking were fab and the location was only a short walk to Lord Street and Marine Drive etc. The breakfasts were amazing value for money at £5 each, including a cooked breakfast, toast, pastries, jams, spreads etc, fresh fruit, cereal and tea and coffee. Lynn, a lovely French lady was very accomodating, she really looked after everyone. Nothing was too much trouble. Yes, it's not a penthouse but if you want a budget hotel within walking distance of Southport's attractions, it is ideal. There were some fabulous shops, restaurants and bars on Lord Street. I would imagine the garden rooms we stayed in would be great in the summer months with your own patio overlooking the garden. Many thanks Balmoral Lodge, we will be back!

Very nice overnight stay at the Balmoral, although I only booked a single room, I was upgraded to a roomy twin with terrace and access to the garden, the room was very pleasant and included a fridge which was well stocked, the free off road parking was a bonus and the cooked breakfast at only £5 was a lovely start to the day, would happily stay agin.

Lovely greeting on arrival Hotel badly needs a bit of TLC but the room was dated but bedding nice and clean. Good room facilities with kettle, tea, coffee, mini bar/fridge and TV. Lovely little terrace to sit on in a lovely rear garden. For the price we paid definitely no complaints. Free parking at the front is a huge bonus and the hotel is in easy walking distance of the Town Centre.

Room mouldy no dinning room or bar,bed uncomfortable very poir lighting on stairs ,very disappointed with the whole place

Bar not open, it was suggested we go to a pub round the corner. Main door closed at approx 1730 so had to use a side door.

The property was in a good location. It was very tired and very dirty. Cobwebs all over flaking radiators curtains fell down when closed. Paintwork very dirty. Only bonus sheets were clean and bed very comfortable.

Place was falling apart. Very dirty, very noisy and honestly we had ent out late and left early so we didn’t have to stay there. Towels with faeces on it. Sheets with lots of hairs. The worst mattress.

The room was definitely neglected and not cleaned properly, for this reason i left and requested a full refund , thank you for pushing for a refund for me.

The beds were really comfortable slept like a log reception was absolutely lovely service but the room needed a very deep clean....cobwebs hanging from ceiling mould in bathroom cracked cups on tea tray mould in the fridge door

Dirty & dated best describes this property. However it is in a convenient location & the bedding & towels were clean even if the rooms generally were not

Dirty smell on arrival room was dated not very clean and cold heating wasn’t on and no hot water a small oil radiator was there but insufficient for the room the hot water came through about 8 in the morning but was bearly hot enough for a show

Didn't stay. Hotel smelt awful as soon as front door opened. Room felt like a dungeon. Dark purple paint, wallpaper peeling , bed & furniture that I didn't want to sit on, never mind sleep in.I hate giving a bad review, as it was a great price, but a deep clean & a lick of paint would make such a difference to this "hotel" . Cheap is no excuse for dirty.

Everywhere was really clean and the hosts were very helpful. Breakfast was amazing, such good value.

Never been so cold in a hotel in my life . Heating was turned off at night had to sleep in my clothes .as wall heater was terrible . Also room needed a good hover floors were filthy

Great value for money if you want a clean and friendly BnB. The property is a bit shabby and it's not the Ritz but they provide excellent value for money. Great if you just need a comfy bed for the night. Liked the fridge in the room too.

Room was big, parking on site, close to town centre but very quiet. Could do with swapping the curtains for thicker ones as they were very thin and I was up at the crack of dawn because they did little to filter the light. All in all a pleasant stay, would probably stay again if I go back to Southport.

We have stayed at the balmoral many times.. but this time was not as good as before.. the mattress in room 3 was so uncomfortable it felt like we’d slept on a park bench.. won’t put us off staying again but hopefully not in that room..

The staff were friendly but the room was too small and congested.

The hotel needs a bit of updating and tidying up but the service and friendliness was excellent. The hosts were so obliging and helpful. Our room (15) was large with plenty of drawers, a fridge, excellent shower with hot water, and sliding doors leading on to a patio area that led into the garden. This was perfect for our dog. It was in a very quiet area not far from the town centre and Marie served an excellent breakfast. It was excellent value for money. I would recommend it and we will definitely return.

Its a budget hotel where the emphasis is most definiely on customer service and attentiveness. The owner and staff between them are always on hand to assist.

Very friendly, good value for money, lovely location, spacious and quiet and breakfast cooked freshly for us. A lovely stay.

The owners were very welcoming and helpful. I would definitely recommend the Balmoral lodge for a place to stay in southport.

The reception was rarely maned for support and questions. The beds were uncomfortable, but unable to talk to the hotel as there was never staff on reception or response via bell.

We where looking forward to are stay as we have two boys 4&6, they where looking forward to staying in a new hotel and seeing there family. The reality was very, very different. The hotel was not at all how it was advertised. The room was in poor condition, with stained pillows, amongst other things. Generally uncleanliness and smelt very unpleasant. While we were initially greeted politely, the attitude via email communication was very abrupt and dismissive towards me!! I was met with rude, abrupt and very dismissive responses. When I raised my concerns the next day. She was very defensiveness rather than understanding. I was very calm and respectful. But my concerns where brushed off rather then acknowledged, when I aired my concerns politely via email. Stating that the overall standard of accommodation fell below even basic expectation. We did not feel comfortable or clean to stay the night, and we had no choice but to leave. For the price I wasn’t expecting luxury, but I expected cleanliness, hygiene and honesty in the way the hotel was portrayed online. I would no recommended this hotel, and urge future guests to Remain to be cautious.

Great check in. Reception could see i was struggling with the steps to get into the hotel and without asking moved me from a sigle room to a groundfloor twin, for the same rate. An exceptional piece of customer service. Room could do with an spruce up around the walls but was completely acceptable. I would stay again, very good value.

This is a great location, short walk to Lord st which is fantastic. The hotel is basic but the ground floor room was good size and comfy. The shower leaked quite badly so we were given another towel to soak up the water. The breakfast for £5 is great value but is basic, but to have continental and cooked breakfast for £5 is fantastic. Feel the scrambled eggs were perhaps powdered eggs but not sure. All in all for a night or two a good stay.

First of all the receptionist was so so lovely and welcoming. Free parking was a bonus and even allowed us to leave the car parked after checking out which allowed us to spend a couple of hours in the town. Short walk to the town centre (about 10mins). Hotel is in need of modernising. Would benefit even from just some white paint. Noticed a lot of black hairs all over the floor so not sure how clean it was but bathroom and sheets appeared clean enough. Childrens matress wasnt good. Had a 6yr old complaining about the springs had to get her to lie on 2 covers so she could sleep. Would we come again? Probably not, however for what we paid we wasnt disappointed.

Great place to stay, staff very friendly.The breakfast was great and options of cereal, fruit and fruit juices.

Lovely building from the outside,friendly hospitality.Unfortunately the room was in much Need of modernisation,breakfast was average at best with dirty table clothes.

The hotel is, as many reviews say, tired and a bit shabby and in need of some TLC and a deep clean. That said, we received a friendly welcome, the staff were lovely, the beds comfy (please get some new pillows though!), having a fridge in the room was a great plus and the breakfast was amazing (except for the coffee), and fabulous value at £5. Balmoral Lodge has a homely feel, and a certain quirky jaded charm (Christmas decorations in the dining room in July!) - a good budget option, not up to everyone's expectations I daresay, but with free parking and being well located, we would definitely stay there again.
