Basic hotel. Good for one or two nights. Its biggest draw is its proximity to Tempe Beach Park. That's about it. They charge $17.50 for parking, but offer no security or preference. We were told at check in to keep our spot if we didn't have to drive, because people steal their spots and they don't have security. There is no parking ticket, so no way to even confirm if the cars belong to guests. The gate is broken and laying on the ground. Doors to rooms and outside are very loud. Soundproofing is sub-par between floors. Breakfast is not included. Knowing all this, I would stay here again, but ONLY because of the hotel's proximity to Tempe Beach Park. Everyone I interacted with seemed downright miserable.

Great location just a block off Mill Ave and all its shops, bars, and restaurants. Very walkable--Tempe Town Lake and ASU campus are both very close. Pool was small but nice. Parking one night was full, so after driving around multiple times, the front desk called us in to park at the tower next door.

The pool and gardens were great. Resort like. The windows, balcony doors and individual room patio furniture, as well as bird droppings needed to be cleaned up. Especially around the pool. And two loungers werent sufficient. The coffee / breakfast bar was not open at all during my stay but they did offer a voucher for a free latte at a local restaurant. The main elevator was a bit dodging. Needed a fresh coat of paint But overall rooms were nice and good value.

The hotel was excellent, favorably situated near restaurants, shopping, and Tempe Beach. However, a malfunctioning elevator presented a significant inconvenience, requiring a choice between a lengthy detour via another elevator or Climb four-flight of stairs. We opted for the stairs after bringing our luggage to the room. It was inconvenient.

The hotels not bad and I do think it’s a really nice quick layover because price is pretty reasonable. The room was pretty nice, and so was the pool area. 2 downsides. The elevator is a-bit beat up, and I was disappointed in the breakfast. It cost $18 for just oatmeal, a bagel, and coffee. Unfortunately the coffee is the only thing that’s good since it’s Starbucks. But what they sell it out of is rather disappointing.

I thoroughly liked the location of the place. What i didnt like was that i booked for 5 people and we only had 2 queen beds in our room. We were given a handicap room which was fine except the open shower floor made the whole bathroom floor extremely wet whenever anyone showered. The pool was nice except it was as if it were salty and really burned our eyes. The staff was very nice and accommodating. Last concerning item was the abundance of tiny bugs that appeared on the night stand in the morning around a items.

The property is certainly showing its age in the stained and dirty carpet in the hallways. The bathrooms are also very old and dirty. Also didn't see any housekeeping.

I stay in a lot of hotels. This is by far the worst one I've stayed at a very long time. The cleanliness was non-existent. My room door barely shut. You can see light coming through every aspect of it. There was mold in the ceiling from a repair that was not done properly. The door had more fingerprints and marks on it than I've ever seen on anything. They've never cleaned the door. It was just really gross. All in all the elevator was gross. They left a service cart in front of the elevator for over 24 hours. It was gross honestly just really gross

This is the second time I stayed there. The first time rooms were really clean/ hotel smelled fresh. This time it didnt there was almost odor/ not fresh. As you walked up our hall way sheets towels through out. As I was walking there was a man in a green shirt there was some trash, empty roll of toilet paper looks like he was waiting for some one else to pick it up. All the front desk people were very polite and helpful, inviting. The house keeping lady she had some tattoos she was very helpful and friendly. Location was teriffic

We booked our room for two nights, we had a hard time to sleep thru the nights due of very very poor sound insulation on all walls and can HEAR peoples conversations and also the thermostat of our room were not accurate by ONE degree. Nothing works well controlled temperature in our room. NEVER book this hotel! Period!!!

Our AC didn't work, we couldn't sleep. I called the front desk told them about it and asked if they had a fan, they didnt. She said i would have to wait until 6am when the maintenance man came into work. NO BUENO! : /

Very quiet despite my room being right by the street. Very comfortable bed! A good value given I didn’t spend much time in the room or on the premises. Excellent location. Lamp by the bed didn’t work (light bulb?) & hallway carpets have a lot of miles on them. Staff were pleasant & helpful. I’d stay there again.

The room was nice and comfortable though it was very dark, not a lot of lighting. The grounds were very nice though. It was relaxing to go sit by the pool or just be outside during my stay. The hotel was also walking distance to a lot of things which I really enjoyed.

DO NOT STAY HERE. I tried to check in at 4, they didn’t have a room ready. Tried again at 5, waited in line for 45 minutes. Was then told they don’t accept debit cards for deposits (which I’ve never encountered). When I booked my trip I paid with debit card and the listing explicitly stated debit cards were OK for deposit. I showed screenshots of the policy provided to me at booking, and was told I couldn’t use my debit card. I reached out to Expedia customer support and they said they couldn’t refund me because I could have used a debit card. I said I know, the front desk agent didn’t let me! Reached out to Sonesta directly and they told me I had to use a credit card when the listing literally said cash and debit cards are ok. How am I suppose to divine information on a policy I never received? The policy provided to me at booking said I could use a debit card. Really disgusting practice from a company, can’t believe they’re so desperate for my $90, maybe they should use that money to properly staff their hotels. I’m still trying to pursue a refund for a room I couldn’t stay in and they probably rebooked anyway. I’m still seething, it’s not worth the hassle to stay here.

The property is nice. However, this is the first hotel I have been to that would not allow early check-in even though they had rooms ready for check-in. I flew from the East Coast early in the morning. It was about 10:30am when I arrived at the property. I was told that if I wanted to check-in early it would be $70. I was only staying for 1 night. They wanted me to pay the price for another night just to check-in early. So I literally sat in the lobby on my computer until 3pm when I was finally allowed to check-in (after I saw someone else check in just before 3pm) Nice hotel, but not reasonably hospitable.

Perfect for a staycation. I needed time to unwind after recently moving to the area. The conciergesses, Julissa and Jasmine were very polite and atttenive to my accommodation. Also thanks to the head manager, Angela for ensuring i had everything I needed for my room, which was very clean. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and wouldnt think twice to come back again in the near future. Thank you so much to the staff of the Sonesta!

Melinda and her team are the ✨best✨ I don’t stay at hotels often. I’m a Phoenix native and don’t travel much so anytime I’ve stayed in hotels, it’s been for an emergency. So, imagine how distraught I was after my apartment flooded and the city sent a violation to my landlord… I basically ran out of my apartment with my service animal and landed myself at the Sonesta Select in Downtown Tempe. In comes Shannon (and my tears) - not only did she listen to me to let me really introduce the processing aspect of an inhabitable unit, but she made sure I was checked in as soon as possible (which was four hours early I believe?), listened to my meltdown, and has since then just been a nice person to be around. Angela ended up coming up shortly after that just to make sure I was OK and she offered me a water and even checked on me when she walked by the next day (she also fixed the patio door that was a bit off the hinge while doing so which was so nice to enjoy)… All the team members, including Jazmine helped me with my terrible habit of demagnetizing my room key (it stopped getting embarrassing after the 3rd time😂) though I was always met with a smiling face and a listening ear. My first night, jasmine gave me a bunch of merch for my dog, not knowing that I had left behind his dog bowl. It’s the little things… The location is perfect, Melinda has created an environment that defines humanity, and her staff has a critical role in making that happen. Thank you guys!!

Overall, it was a good hotel walkable to a festival we were attending, but the room itself wasn’t that great we had constant issues with our room key needing to go down and get new ones almost every single time and we heard someone else yelling in the halls that they were having the same issue getting into their room. The lightbulb went out in the bathroom and it took about a day to get maintenance in there to fix.

We did not even stay on 3/39/2025, because they the assistant manager was very rude and did not honor the reservation. The other desk help person was helping and processing checking in. Then the assistant manager stopped her and refused to give my son and his kids a room in the middle of the night because the card was not under his name, even though it was authorized.

I stayed for 5 days at this hotel and the location is very convenient if you are staying in the downtown Tempe area. It's within walking distance of restaurants, coffee shops, and supermarkets. The staff gives poor customer service, sometimes they even ignore you and not even would reply to your greeting. They don't offer breakfast and their internal coffee shop was only open just the first day of my stay. The rest of the days was closed and I had to walk to a nearby coffee shop to get some coffee. They don't clean the room on a daily basis, but you need to request to get your garbage removed from the room. I'm still waiting for the deposit of $250 USD to be returned to my credit card after the receptionist said it would take 2 business days to be returned. It's almost a month since I checked out. I would not stay at this hotel on a future visit.

Reasonably priced hotel for Ironman Tempe weekend. About 10 minute walk to Tempe Beach Park and nearby restaurants and a WholeFoods. Good sized room which was clean and comfortable. Pretty quiet even though long freight trains ran to the west of the hotel, but at least they did not blow their horns. Very nice staff at front desk and very friendly throughout the hotel. Would strongly recommend if staying in downtown Tempe.

The room was awesome, clean and comfortable. the only complaint would be the breakfast area. Every item is priced separately instead of a combo breakfast. Two eggs bacon hash browns & toast would be $25. Coffee is an extra $5,50 for a large. $61 for two people. I DONT THINK SO! Micky D's we went. Two egg mcMuffins for $5. plus coffee

As a traveler from Texas there was a definite culture shift that I wasn’t prepared for and should have done more research. First off the location of the hotel is amazing if you want to be close to the university and to downtown Tempe. It was quite as well as I couldn’t hear the other guest while I was in my room. The room itself was nice and had a modern feel, something I enjoyed. Bed felt nice and it had the standard appliances in the room. Some things I wasn’t prepared for, having to request for room service. When I asked for it, one manager was quick to let me know I didn’t ask for it in time, and wanted to know what I wanted as they would only do certain areas, I had been in the room 4 days at this time. The service manager was much more approachable and let me know she would try to get to me as soon as she could-thank you. Paying parking at the hotel, is $15 a day extra, but I did receive this for free, I do appreciate the manager who checked me in and did this for me. She was helpful the entire time and made this trip a lot better. Paying for breakfast, nothing is free and the three frozen pancakes I received was $12.

It was just 1 night after a long day of traveling by air. The room was dark & relatively quiet. Our only issue was in the morning we went for the breakfast & found out that nothing was complimentary. For the money spent, we believe we should have at least had a muffin & cup of coffee on the house!

Comfort and appearance was great. The only reason I didn’t give 5 stars was because the coffee shop and “bar” is only open from 6am-9:30am. I know I’m on vacation but why am I drinking that early and not the rest of the day. There wasn’t very many breakfast choices either.. so great place to relax and sleep , but not much amenities to offer.
