The room was clean and comfortable the landscaping and gardening were very nice , the breakfast was great

This was a basically quiet, convenient place to stay for our trip to San Diego. The biggest downside was the parking - yes the parking was included, but the spaces are small and if we came back later (10pm) there was no space for our minivan. Particularly as when we stayed there were many large SUV/Pickup trucks that parked crooked or over their lines. The staff was very good about it, but it is something to be aware of.If you have a smaller car that probably won't be an issue. Got door dash delivery no problem.

Stayed in a more updated room than last time. Very comfortable. So close to campus. Coffee good and strong. Pool area actually has a nice big tree to sit under and read. Love this place.

The parking lot was very tight. I was awakened by them towing a car around 11:30 pm . There should be assigned spaces.

Love this cute little motel. I’ve stayed here 6 or 7 different times while my son was a student at SDSU. The Lamplighter Inn is consistently immaculate- honestly, the grounds and buildings are so well-maintained. The breakfast is basic but good, the laundry facilities, water dispenser,& vending machines are available 24/7 in a secure room next to the lovely, shaded pool area. Parking is plentiful and free. There are several good restaurants within easy walking distance

Well kept, beautiful grounds. Good breakfast selections. Comfy bed. Heated pool. Accommodates pets.

I'm glad I chose this hotel. Having breakfast taken care of each morning was so nice and convenient. I didn't get to enjoy the pool but it did look nice and inviting and from what I saw many other guests did.

The heated pool was a plus

This place is always my go-to when visiting SDSU. Never had any issues before but this time there was a cockroach climbing down the shower curtain when I was in the shower. Definitely changed how I look at this hotel.

I liked the easy parking and quiet, and the bed was extremely comfy. I just didnt like the cleanliness of the room itself, especially the bathroom, the shower curtain was broken, the tub was a bit dirty and there was some straggles of hair from somebody before us which i understand there is only so much cleaning staff can do i probably would've missed it too if it had been my job, it just made me feel alittle less comfortable to touch things you know what i mean.

The good thing is closeness to San Diego State. This is a motel but the rate is similar to the hotel room. The building is somewhat remodeled/refreshed however the room I stayed is dark, dated and smelly. The carpets are dirty, furniture is old, the refrigerator is so loud it is hard to sleep. The bed was ok but the linens are warn out and grayish. In wall AC works ok but loud too. The fan in the bathroom is so loud and rattling I was afraid to turn it on worrying it will fall out. I did not used the kitchenette, the dishes were odd and not looking well. The sink was blocked. Breakfast is very basic (bread, bagels, oatmeal and cereal), hard boiled eggs and waffle maker. Hardly any toppings. Items often run out and there wasn't much service to replenish. Front desk personnel feels indifferent to customer service.

This was our first time staying there. The pool was beautiful and the staff worked quickly to get us in our room early. However, there was a bunch of dead bugs on the wall when we got into our room. The maintenance man came and cleaned them up and we agreed to stay in that room since the bugs were dead. However, that night as we were getting ready for bed the room became infested with FLYING ANTS!! They were everywhere - in the bathroom, in our bed, and crawling on my daughter's stuffed animals. They were coming out of the wall (on the inside of the room, not from the outside). We decided that we couldn't stay there and packed up our stuff and went to the front office and told them what the problem was and that we were leaving. The person at the front desk said they would give us a refund, however we never received one, nor did we hear from the manager even though I left my phone number and email address. I even sent the hotel an email and never heard back from them. I reserved the room through Expedia so I contacted them and they called the hotel and they said the hotel told them that they would not be giving a refund because we had already checked in. Even though we didn't stay a single night in their bug infested room!! I would NOT ever suggest staying here!

Close to sdsu. Clean room but the smell is very musty and mildewy

We found fleas in our room which was a major bummer. The staff were accommodating and assigned us a new room but did not offer a discount which I honestly think they should have done. The continental breakfast was very good and plentiful. The rooms were very clean aside from the issue with fleas. The hotel is walkable to SDSU.

It was very clean.

We booked 2 rooms which were at opposite ends of the hotel. Both were extremely musty smelling. Not sure how to get rid of that terrible smell but to remove the carpet and repaint. Staff were great though.

Rooms were not clean and smelled like mold. We woke in the morning with bed bug bites. Requested to check out a day early and hotel refused to refund for the day we did not stay. Expedia was unable to provide any refund despite the unacceptable conditions.

pretty architecture, room aren’t the best but good enough. tv is small and would lose internet connection , could only see the box channels

It's convenient to SDSU, the bed was comfy, it was clean and quiet. It's a doors-face-the-outside-world type of motel though. The rooms face the sun most of the day and they (understanably) don't run the AC units in unoccupied rooms, so it took several hours for the poor unit to cool the room down. It meets the minimum requirements for a hotel stay.

The kitchenette was awesome and the room was super comfortable. Nice and quiet. Our new go to hotel when we visit San Diego. My wife loved it.

If you’re looking for a clean budget friendly hotel, this works. Room was very small, door did not seal all the way, it’s noisy when people are next to you or outside your door. Thankfully we didn’t need to be in our room much.

We had a lovely time at the Lamplighter Inn and Suites. We especially enjoyed the heated pool and the size of our room…plus the bed was super comfortable. The A/C and nearby vending machine was great as well! The only things we couldn’t get working were the phone and the Smart TV, as we wanted to watch our show on Netflix. Oh well… not a deal breaker, there were other shows and we had our laptops/tablets/phones/etc. We’ll definitely be back any time we visit our daughter at university! :)

The location of the hotel and my room within the hotel was so good. There was not much to add except the wifi could use some updating.

This hotel is great for a quick trip. The room was decent and clean but the water pressure in the shower was super low. That’s my only complaint. The location is super convenient and the check in process was very easy!

Location to SDSU was great! Beds, pillows were comfortable. Continental breakfast was decent (waffles, bagels& cream cheese, cereal, oatmeal, yogurt, fruit). Unfortunately, the downsides of this hotel were deal breakers! —A/C couldn’t keep the room cool, it was almost unbearable to fall asleep! Water pressure in the shower was terrible, basically a trickle. I would not stay here again in the summer, other times of the year would probably be fine.

Everything was good except the Wi-Fi would drop every hour or so and I would have to reconnect

Rooms are old but clean. On the darker side not as bright as the pictures show. Kitchen very small and has the very minimum of basics more for reheating not actual cooking. Beds were comfy, pillows fluffy, towels plentiful.

Keys didn’t work twice . Second time I had to wait an hour before someone returned to office. Called 8 times and no one picked up

The service was amazing. I arrived late at night and was met by night manager Mike. I mentioned that I was thirsty and he went out of his way to make sure I got some bottled water. The room was clean and relaxing. I slept well in a quiet room. Just what I needed a long series of flights. And in the morning Mike greeted me with a smile and followed up on the conversation the night before. Breakfast hit the spot and I was ready to take on my long drive home. Highly recommend. Great place to stay.

The check-in was easy and the person I had was friendly and fast. However, my window was broken and I didn't realize this until right before bedtime. It was a huge window that someone could just step right into the room. There was only one person at the front desk and she came as quickly as she could. Then came back with a wooden rod. Then again with a piece of wood to wedge the window shut. It had obvious damage (looks like someone pried it open) so I don't know why the hotel wasn't aware of this and in the process of fixing it. The customer service aspect was great but I don't like this big oversight. The neighborhood is not great and I'd left all of my belongings earlier, not realizing the room was unsecured.

Had to complain unfortunatly about the group of college kids above us very loud, office was supposed to talk to them but It did not seem they did, other than that it was good.

The front desk staff was great. We got there super early and they worked to accommodate us in a very reasonable fashion. The room was clean, eco friendly and the bed was very comfortable. Would stay there again.

The hotel is modest: its property, the upkeep of it, the breakfast, etc. The staff is lovely: warm, helpful, very 'human'.

Don’t bother to call in to make a preference known for your stay. People there answer your call and say they will note your account but do not. Kudos to the supervisor that tried to make it right, but a queen sized bed wasn’t going to cut it so it was a no go. Rant to the person who just said you were sold out and I was out of luck.

Overall it was good. Good breakfast, nice staffs, specious room etc…. But one thing. The room keys didn’t work repeatedly so that I had to go back to the reception to fix it. (Happened twice :(

I loved the drive up parking right to your hotel room door. The pool was really fun. I like that they had breakfast in the morning and the front staff was really friendly as well. We were there for SDSU orientation. It’s really close to the school otherwise it’s not the most desirable neighborhood, but there is a Starbucks down the street!

We continue to be loyal guests due to ease of check-in, friendliness, cleanliness, and amazing proximity to SDSU

I decent place at a decent price, clean, pleasant and helpful staff, decent complementary breakfast included. Located pretty far from the turistic hotspots like seaport village and old town but would stay again.

Good affordable location near SDSU. Off a main artery so traffic was constant. Rain prevented use of the pool ( which looked very clean & well kept). Staff was wonderful. Towels were fluffy & plentiful. Good bed, clean room, very good shower with good pressure . Wished there was a door on the shower room. Wi-Fi & tv worked well.

Needed a place to stay by SDSU for a sports camp. The original place we booked was super shady. We got there and didn’t feel safe. We found this place which hands-down in this neighborhood is the best choice. Staff was really nice the place is older but clean and well kept. Breakfast was decent, hard-boiled eggs, waffles, yogurt, bagels, pastries, fruit. I would stay here again if in the area, but this neighborhood is not the greatest.

When looking on Google Maps, the area looks kind of weird, but when I got there, it was great. Very safe, I never felt like I was in danger at all, especially as a female staying alone. Everything was walkable and if not, it was just a 5-15 min Uber drive away. Perfect location, and I have every intention of staying here again the next time I'm in town!

Check-in was fast, rooms were clean, beds were comfortable. Breakfast was varied and always replenished. The pool was clean and the water temperature was comfortable.

I particularly like that you can ask the front desk for toiletry items. I was also thankful to see generous choices for breakfast. I loved having hardboiled eggs as a choice. There was a generous amount of towels, and I liked having the soap and shampoo dispensers rather than the annoying tiny bottles. I think having a helper sign up for those who have disabilities was a compassionate touch. And one of the things asked on intake was if, in an emergency, I would need help from them. These little touches speak so well of this business. I will book here again.

Breakfast lacked many gluten free options. I know not much can be done about noisy occupants but it was a bit overwhelming the amount of guests that were not considerate of others peace and quiet.

This hotel is great! VERY clean. It’s a little older but it’s beautifully kept. I like that it’s pet friendly. Their continental breakfast is pretty good, many options to choose from. I would definitely stay here again.
