Sonesta ES Suites Birmingham Homewood

The only negative during my stay was that the elevator stopped working.

The pool was not open and that is the main reason we chose this hotel

While we didn't get the room we booked, we had enough room for all to sleep. Bring towels because they were low during our stay and did not have enough for everyone to have one. Breakfast runs out fast! We had to eat out. Property is well maintained. Gym also out of order.

Close to Samford U. Room was clean. Gym was missing most weights. Breakfast was mediocre. Staff was nice and helpful.

Ruined our wedding anniversary. The pool was totally closed for maintenance and was never told until arriving on July 4th. We had our six year old with us and she was heartbroken with the no pool. This caused us to spend an entire day searching for free swimming experiences for the family, which in turn meant we were unable to visit any historical sites and that is why we picked Birmingham, Alabama. I booked a handicap accessible room because my wife is unable to safely get in and out of the bath tub. The only thing accessible about the room was the ability to push a button to auto-open the door. Refused late checkout even with all the failures on the visit. This place was a nigtmare - DO NOT RECOMMEND!

When we arrived we were told that the elevators were under construction. The receptionist was wonderful. She found us a room (upgrade) on the first floor. This was great, both of us being seniors and my husband severely visually challenged. The furniture needs some attention but we would stay there again.

Clean , reasonable price. Pool was not open. Guest printer in lobby area did not work. Staff was great! Everyone courteous and pleasant. Aside from the minor inconveniences mentioned an enjoyable stay.

It was a good stay. I was on business, If your on business, best to upgrade the Wi-fi. Had a one bedroom, quite spacious. Full sized fridge and dishwasher. Coffee maker was clean. Microwave was clean too. Bed was medium firm, felt a little droopy in the middle. Free breakfast was hit or miss, but had a nice variety. Rooms were quiet, despite construction going on at 8:00am on a Sunday morning. It's stopped by lunch. Great AC. Felt secure, pet friendly and did not smell like pets. Bright clean linens. Good sized T.V.'s. No bugs, dead or alive. Quiet hours at night with security guard doing rounds. No barking during the night. Staff was friendly and helpful. Pool was well kept, no smoking hotel. Nothing to complain about. Will stay again, perhaps not on the ground floor and if possible away from construction, but I was able to relax and get my work done. Good restaurants in all directions of this hotel.

Tired facility. No elevator service. Ran out of food and bottled water at breakfast. I guess they underestimated their bookings.

I am not one that normally leaves a poor review or complains. This hotel had a good review so we booked it. Jennifer at the front desk was very helpful and made the check in easy. When we walked into our room it smelled of smoke and we brought this up to Jennifer then put us in another room. When we went into the second room it appeared clean, but we were horrified after unfolding the sofa bed. There were stained sheets with a crusty face cloth tucked in with the sheet. Upon lifting the very worn mattress we also discovered absolute filth. We brought this up to Jennifer who then gave us a third room which was cleaner and we were able to finally go to bed after driving 14 hours that day. The cleaning staff obviously did not do their job on this particular day. I chose Sonesta as I have heard wonderful things from friends who have stayed with this chain. Myself, I will not be returning to Sonesta and will look for chains I have stayed with before.

Common areas, hallways and elevator especially, had a funky smell. Our room which was on the West end, would not cool below 74 degrees until after midnight. Bed was very uncomfortable.

Not worth the bite. They have bed bugs and it stinks.

There was Hair on the towels and hair in the bathroom.

Clean room

I hate to say but this was by the worst stay we have ever had at Sonesta ES. We went down upon getting into our room and let Candy at the front desk know the condition of our room. She felt bad, yet we still have not heard anything back. She was bothered by the situation and said she would talk to the night manager behind her after she got off the phone. I went down to the lobby as soon as we got into our room to let them know and show with photos the issues. There was hair all over the bathroom walls, some sort of liquid on the ceiling in the shower, hair on the towels, bathroom door was broken and split at the bottom making it rub along the floor when even attempting to close. Chairs at little table were damaged and the room smelt and still smells like a wet mildew basement. We have stay here 2-3 times a year for the past 4 years and this is the first and most disappointing stay. I’m praying we don’t get sick and unfortunately we have no other place to go. Again I came w/ photos to show the front desk and she was shocked as well as grossed out. I cleaned the bathroom with what I could find but after flying all day and driving 3 hours to arrive to this it not a let down. We love staying here in the past & now with pending reservations for 3 rooms in May I’m quite concerned to say the least as we also have family coming in out of state & the odor of a musty mildew basement is not ok. Going on day 3, still no word from mgmt. Typical of Motel 6 not Sonesta ES.

The room was clean and the staff was friendly. Unfortunately there were bed sheets out in a pile down the hall from my room and what looked like a shower curtain was in a crumple by my door. They had a sign in the elevator to please not place trash outside in the hallways...it wasn't the cleanest hotel I've been too.

This hotel is so dirty and dusty! They need to clean from top to bottom and renovate. It was dust everywhere, carpet had stains, tub didnt drain. I would never stay at a Sonesta again! It seemed like a halfway house.

The room was very expensive for one night stay. The room was very spacious, but out dated. The sofa had old dirty stains on it, the bed were horrible. Extremely lumpy! I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone I know.

Fantastic breakfast, loads of choice. Very helpful and friendly staff. Fully equipped spacious rooms with comfy bed. On the downside, the rooms were old and tired looking, they need money spending on them to modernise and brighten up.

I felt like for what we paid, I expected better. Room smelled smoky, there was hair on the walls in the shower, one of our toilets had urine on the seat, the closet doors had bent metal pieces someone could easily cut themselves on. Front staff was great and very friendly though!

We travel a lot, stay at nice hotels, and this was the cleanest / neatest property we've stayed at. Our room was very comfortable, and well stocked with amenities, as well as dishes, pots & pans, etc. We stayed only a night but this hotel would be perfect for a long term stay. Breakfast was very good, and the staff was very friendly and professional. Will definitely chose this hotel if we stay in the area again. Good value for the price...

Nice setup a large living area with kitchen, full fridge etc. The main problem was the air quality in the room. A strong mildew stink was present in our room, #243. The breakfast was average for the style of hotel. However, the decaf coffee was unmarked. It did not say decaf anywhere on the container. The staff said it was decaf and I hope they were right since the caffeine and my heart don't get along. They had the mini transport trolleys available to haul stuff to and from the rooms which was good.

The building and rooms are very old and tired. The beds were comfortable, but the couch in the living room was terribly uncomfortable. Staff is friendly and very helpful though. It's a great property, just needs a facelift in the rooms with paint, carpet, and furniture. Breakfast was nice but NEEDS to run later. Especially on a weekend, closing at 8:30am on a Sunday is way to early

Property needs updating

Mattress was worn out and seemed to be falling apart.

The hotel was sadly lit and outdated. The wallpaper and carpet were old and dirty. The couch had a stain on it that looks gross. The bed and linens were clean and comfortable but I felt like I’d stepped back into the 80s staying there.

The staff was amazing and very accommodating! They made us feel welcomed and valued as a customer. Cassandra was very attentive and was very flexible with us as guests from Chicago. She was kind and helped us with a smile on her face. Thank you Cassandra!

Checking in was TERRIBLE! We called for over an hour to inform that we were a little late. Got there to find a sign on the door with a number to call/ after several calls with no answer,we pulled the door open to enter the lobby . Continued to call but NO ONE was at the desk.Eventually she came downstairs dressed in pjs! Towels were requested for the next morning;she finally made a set for us to use. There was a vacant room across from mine that was used by about 4-6 people people to sit outside of and smoke marijuana all night and day! Called front desk to complain and request towels-no answer again!!

The property is very nice and clean and the customer service is outstanding.

The stay was fine, but the service was not especially great. I paid for early check 10a - 2p. I arrived at 12:15p and no room was ready. The clerk was a little bit rude but fine. I was probably not the only one that paid for early checkin. She stated she would call but I received no call although she stated she called 4 times (my phone did not ring). She must have miss dialed. I finally got out of my vehicle (after sitting inside for 2 1/2 hours to find my room was finally ready. THIS WAS UNEXCEPTABLE SINCE THEY ARE THE ONES THAT SENT THE EMAIL TO PURCHASE EARLY CHECKIN

Found this hotel to be very roomy and clean! Breakfast was hot and offered a variety of options and the kitchen attendant was very helpful everyday. The room came with a kitchenette which was very clean. Also, the AC is an individual central unit which was really nice. I had left a higher priced hotel because of the lack of humidity control in the room. When I realized I needed to stay a few days longer, they even let me keep my room and not have to check out and check in though I went through an online 3rd party booking app. The front desk hotel attendant even remembered my name. Overall, there was just a really nice and personal atmosphere here (I didn't feel like a number). The hotel is located in a convenient place (near stores/Walmart/restaurants, close by, I-65) and a safe well patrolled location. Visiting family member receiving critical care at UAB hospital.

The hotel staff is the best. They appear to be genuinely committed to making your experience during your stay the best. All the way from the front desk, the lounge during breakfast, down to housekeeping are all very nice people and constantly check in with you to make sure you’re doing ok. Ms. Jackie (you can find her during the breakfast hours) will even ask if your family is okay and make sure you have what you need. You have a choice on many hotels but they make sure you’ll want to choose them.

Chris Cambron was tremendously helpful! He helped to keep me in the same room so that I didn't have to move all of my belongings! All of the staff is super friendly and helpful. Spacious rooms in great shape.

The front desk staff is absolutely amazing. They have been friends during my stay, and I've decided Cassandra is my new best friend even if she doesn't know it 😂 Will recommend in the future!

This was a great stay, start to finish. Customer service was exceptional. Jennifer was especially helpful. This will be where I stay next year as well!

I love that the staff was so nice and helpful. Also the location was so great. Everything you wanted was close. Even if you needed to go into the city.

They were getting work done to the roof but the hotel has quiet hours from 10p-8a and the roof work didn't start until 8am. There are a couple of strip malls less than 15 minutes away. Plenty of dining options including sit down and fast food. The parking was plentiful. The area itself was quiet despite having several extended stay properties in the area. I didn't make it to breakfast but the rooms were clean and well stocked.

I liked the location as it was located in what would normally be a quiet area and located near shopping and dining. However, the complex was being re-roofed while we stayed there. Since we were recovering from surgery, it made our stay rather miserable during daylight hours. If we had not pre-paid for our stay, we would have checked out and gone elsewhere. The noise factor was the single biggest problem we had.

I like that this property is at the end of a service road in a quiet office park setting, yet handy to I-65 and the areas I wanted to visit

Big hotel three different buildings check in and offices are in the main building and then you have two other buildings but only the two entry doors one in each building and neither buildings connect to each other, you can exit from different about four different doors in each each building but it’s only one entry door for each building, my room was on the third floor and the last room on that floor which was a distance from the elevator otherwise it was a nice hotel. One elevator in each building each building has 3 floors. my room faced the interstate could not hear a thing slept like a baby.

Staff was wonderful! We had a large group with 7 rooms and they made the check-in process seamless! Every time we came and went they were warm and welcoming. Hotel is a little worn and could use some updates. Room was clean and quiet with everything you would need and the bed was comfortable (pillows were so comfy!!). Bathroom leaves a lot to be desired but the water pressure was amazing! I would stay again, it felt safe and the area is convenient with Walmart and restaurants within a mile.

Easy check in and location.

Check in was quick and efficient, room was great, we have to come to UAB periodically for doctor visits, this has become our choice of stay.

The hotel was conveniently located and offered an affordable rate, which made it a good choice for a short stay. However, not all amenities were available for guests to enjoy, which was a bit disappointing. Overall, it was an okay experience—suitable if you're looking for basic accommodations in a good location

Marijuana smells. Stained carpet. Small, thin towels. Stiff, small mattress. Thin linens. Insufficient breakfast hours and foods. Ran out of food 45 minutes before breakfast closed.

It was very convenient to where we’re visiting. I think the breakfast should be open longer that 6-830. We were not able to use the service.

From check-in to checkout this was by far one of our best hotel stays of all time. The staff was more than helpful and kind. The breakfast options were different every day so you don’t get tired of the same thing. The room was clean and the bed comfy. I’ll be staying here when I come through again.

The location felt very safe and secure. Near lots of stores and restaurants but away from traffic. The water pressure of the shower was amazing and I had plenty of hot water. The breakfast surpassed my expectations. I was extremely pleased to see they had “grab and go” hot food items (sandwiches/burritos) since I didn’t want to waste time sitting down to eat. I would definitely stay here again.

Everything here was good until the breakfast. We got there 45 minutes before the end of breakfast and all the food was gone and nothing got refilled. We each got a yogurt and 1/2 of a dried out bagel. There wasn’t even bread for toast. Tried to get a coffee and even that was empty. Not okay! They apologized but that was it!

We were travelling for a baseball tourney and ready to settle in and sleep. Upon check-in we were greeted with the warmest smile and sweetest woman! A super hard worker and sweet as Alabama tea! She told us that the hotel is being remodeled soon but they had already finished some projects. The rooms were clean and comfy. We felt very safe. It was me and 2 kiddos and I never worried about them. Breakfast included premade sandwiches (3 different types) that were hot and delicious. We were able to grab and go which was delightful for us. The last day they had sausage gravy and homemade biscuits.....OMG YUM! I only had to call to the front desk once and it was for extra towels.....they arrived at my door in less than 5 minutes. The service here is impeccable! Thank you for making me a new sonesta suites believer. Next time we're up there we will be sure to stay again!

Every room is a suite with a kitchen. Suites were spacious. Bed comfortable. Breakfast was provided- included breakfast sandwiches, grits, yogurt, fruit, bagels, tea and coffee, apple and orange juice

My wife and I stayed one night at this Sonesta hotel. We received a friendly greeting at the front desk and had a very easy check in. Every one of the employees was friendly and polite, often asking if they could help us in any way. Our room was a little worn but very clean. The bathroom was exceptionally clean and well stocked with towels and toiletries. The floor lamp did not work and the desk lamp had a very loose arm for the bulb. I reported these issues to the desk clerk while checking out and a second employee was also writing notes about the issues. The breakfast was better than most with an attendant in the room all the time. They offered cereals, muffins, and other pastries as well as tortillas to make breakfast burritos with eggs, loose sausage, cheese, and other condiments. There is no waffle iron but an automatic machine made great pancakes! If we return to Birmingham we will stay at this hotel and will look for other Sonesta locations in other cities.
