Holiday Inn Express Durham by IHG

First, the elevator was not working and did not get fixed the 3 days I was there. There was no service elevator so we had to use stairs ice machines.Also not working:ice machine, pancake maker for breakfast. Outside areas were trashy and not well kept. The staff were pleasant and tried to compensate for things like the elevator not working, but they were helpless to do anything about it. Breakfast was basically okay and servers tried to keep items out and available, but there were only two people including the cook who were apparently working the breakfast. My room was clean. Mattress and pillows were way too soft.

Looks like a fairly new facility and the staff was very friendly and accommodating. Rooms very clean and parking was fine.

The hotel is ok for 1 night... the pool was a disaster with no towels and everything on the floor, it was so dirty but when we complained to the front desk, we were told that this will be only fixed tomorrow. Rooms are outdated but spacious and enough for one night.

There was no one at the front desk when we checked in and we had to wait a while for someone to appear. The elevator was not functioning when we checked out.

The pool is outside of our window and is half filled with green sludge. Its pretty off putting to see.

The only down side was that the elevator was down and the ice machine was also down on the 1st floor. Other then that everything was perfect and the breakfast was Amazing!

Elevator (only one) out of service for days, icemaker out of service, pancake maker out of service, fire alarm went off just after 5 am due to faulty service (?). Poor signage on out of service elevators. Staff would just say “so terribly sorry”. No pride ownership in this hotel anywhere. No comps at all.

Ok stay. Elevator was broken so we had to walk up to 3rd floor.

We were there for a medical appt at Duke. The motel was close enough without a lot of traffic. The room was very clean. The staff was friendly, helpful and courteous. The breakfast would rival any restaurant meal. Will definitely stay again.

This hotel sits right beside a major highway so you may get a room that's quite noisy. We didn't have this problem, but it would be good to know. It's also right on the edge of a not so great part of town. We didn't have an issue, but again, good to know in advance. The first thing we noticed when we got to our room was a dirty pair of underwear in the corner under a chair - which didn't make us very confident in the cleaning of the room prior to our arrival. The room is very cramped. The walls are pretty thin so heard a lot of noise during the night. The breakfast was really bad. Two good things I can say - the beds were nice and the shower was great. I wouldn't stay here again.

Staff was pleasant. I did find a few ants crawling in my room. Hopefully none crawled in my bags and went back home with me. The room did need vacuuming under the couch and bed. The Manager was supposed to give me a call about my stay, but they never did. Not surprised by that. Good luck to them.

We were sent to a room that hadn't been cleaned. This was quickly rectified. Property is old as evidenced in the bathroom. Rug in elevator was filthy.

Blood spots on floor around lounge and check in area had to point out to staff. Room key system down.

typical Holiday Inn except noisy at one side of the hotel, which is on the side of highway, very noisy at night, hard to have good sleep. If you choose this Holiday Inn, make sure your room is on the other side.

This hotel was not only convenient to visiting the Johnston surrender site, it also had the very best breakfast on our trip, with plenty of protein, fruit, juices, and even cinnamon buns. The beds were comfortable and the room was quiet.

This property is modern and clean. The Rooms are spacious.

This hotel has been remodeled beautifully. The staff was helpful and the hotel was generally comfortable. Unfortunately, it is located next to a freeway and trucks driving by at night are loud. Ear plugs are a must. My only other complaint was the beds. They were way too soft for me.

The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. They went above and beyond to make sure that my 96 yeatr-old mother and I were satisfied.

I ended up staying here by accident. I had booked the Red Roof but picked the wrong date and they were fully booked, so I last minute had to scramble for another pet friendly hotel in the area and found the IHG. Harrison was an absolute delight to deal with. I was very stressed out and was having a payment issue with my card. Harrison was patient and understanding as I dealt with the issues to pay the pet fee and the deposit. The room itself was great. Spacious, clean and new. The shower was lovely with very good water pressure. They also had really nice Dove soaps and shampoos/conditioners on the wall. The room also had a hair dryer, fridge and microwave. Breakfast was amazing, and well worth it. The eggs, bacon and sausage were all great. They had cereal, fruit, breads, milk, and juices. The area was pretty clean, and there's a nice field right beside the hotel for walking your dogs that is well lit and felt safe. I will absolutely be back as I travel to this area a few times a year. The only thing I disliked was the $75.00 pet fee, but that is a flat fee for both dogs, and was for up to 5 days. I do wish that it could be changed since I was just staying for one night, but I understand it can be hard to do so.

I took my children who are 17 & 18 to Durham to go shopping at the mall there which is an excellent place to go. I reserved a room with two queen beds, so my son could be comfortable in his own bed and my daughter and I would share a bed. I paid in full when I made my reservation. When we got there, they DID NOT have the room available wit two queen size beds. They said the only option that we had was a king size bed and a pull out sofa, this was at 10pm . We ended up accepting that because we felt there was no other options in the area and were disappointed. Along with that, when we got to the room and my son pulled the sofa out, we looked for linen and pillows for him. There were NoNE! I called the receptionist and was told that they could not bring any to our room; but we could go downstairs to get some. We just drove a few hours after working all day and was exhausted. I felt that good customer service would had brought the linens and pillows up; the answer was NO! I ended up taking a top sheet off of the king bed and my daughter gave my son a pillow, he covered up with a throw blanket that we had. This should never had happened! I paid for two queen beds which is what I should had received which would had enough sheets, pillows and blankets. The guy at the desk was nice enough; the woman who said no, that we had to come and get these items seemed to have cared less and was unapologetic. Hotels are in the hospitality industry. I feel I did not get why I paid for.

Arrived at the hotel and the two rooms available had broken key access (dead batteries) and the clerk could fix them. Was sent away without a room that was prepaid for at 2 am! Horrible!

The property was clean, safe and comfortable. The room was very nice. The service was excellent, especially when we left our hanging clothes in the closet. Charles, an employee I spoke with over the phone, personally went to ship them to my home before I even paid him. He trusted that I would send him the payment after he spent his own money and time! Not many do that these days!

Checked into room and it hadn't been cleaned. We weren't the only ones. Check in took forever!

After driving for over five hours and arriving at the hotel a bit earlier than the official check-in time of 3 pm, we were denied check-in and made to wait until after 3 pm even though the hotel was empty and no cars were in the parking lot. The manager offered to check us in for an extra fee which was the tackiest thing I have ever encountered checking in a hotel. I have checked in many other hotels early, including many Holiday Inns so his assistance on the policy was nothing more than pure greed. Additionally, the breakfast bar was very limited for someone who avoids meats and even the scrambled eggs tasted like they were made on the same dirty grill along with the sausage because they had that unmistakable smell of the breakfast meats. Holiday Inn used to be my favorite place to stay when on the road but this experience changed all of that. This was the worst stay in my recent memory.

The front desk was so overwhelmed. We booked our stay in May not knowing it was UNCC’s homecoming weekend. We came from an hour & half to see one of my favorite bands in concert. We travel to Durham once or thrice a year to go to the DPAC, a wonderful venue to see bands play. Our first time for this hotel and probably our last. They charged a $75 incidental fee to my card. Crazy!!! Anyway the concert was great and in the end not a horrible visit. The ladies at the front desk were frustrated because the 3rd party billing wasn’t working and the check in time posted and we didn’t get checked in until after 4:00 pm because housekeeping was so far behind.

I booked this hotel based on being Pet Friendly per my search request which showed this Hotel on Hotels.com site. I read the Holiday Inn policies on this site Before booking my room. Under Pet Policy it states Pet fee is $50.00 Check out time listed on Hotels.com states 12 noon When reviewing Hotel information and policies, a potential guest Expects information presented is going to be exactly same upon Arrival. That was NOT the situation we experienced. Not to mention the Hotel is located in an unsafe area of town. Issue #1) Upon arrival, Guest Services clerk claimed there were No available rooms for pets because the 4 rooms allotted were already occupied. She claimed she would need to call mgr to get override/permission for us to stay there. I had a reservation already Issue #2) I was charged $75.00 for pet fee vs $50.00 and was told they don't have control over "misinformation" shown on Hotels.com site. Clerk refused to honor price shown in writing on this site. Issue#3) Check out at Front Desk shows 11:00 am vs 12 noon as written on Hotels.com site Issue #4) Drug addicts loitering on property at night asking guest for Cash for food. Scared US to Death to get out of vehicle to enter hotel. I offered food i had brought back from my family's house, but homeless addict didn't want the food and kept insisting on cash. He finally walked away after my husband made it clear several times we didn't have cash available. I advised night mgr at front desk how scared we were!!

Least nicest holiday inn express I ever stayed in. Only thing nice about hotel is right off i85. Also there’s a gas station n McDonald’s right next store.

We stayed at this property after a Duke basketball game. It was easy access via Uber to the game and back again afterwards. The room was nice and comfortable. The hotel was also quiet!

Zero amenities And by amenities I mean a water source other than my rooms bathroom sink. Or coffee for the in room coffee maker Or anything in the bathroom besides the world’s smallest single bar of soap. Or a working ice machine Or bacon, bagels, biscuits for the biscuits and gravy, or sausage. Better do breakfast early if for some reason you decide to stay here The staff was nice but this is the most cut rate holiday inn I have ever stayed at.

The breakfast was disappointing. They ran out of sausage gravy one day and didn't make it on another day. I had to ask for coffee and cream, as both of those were out.

Overall it was a nice stay. Breakfast could have more vegetarian options and dairy free milk options as well. The juice/water dispenser at breakfast was out of order making it difficult to get fresh clean water.

The hotel was clean and the breakfast was very good. I would stay again.
