pool and sauna were excellent, there is a hot tub but it was out of order sadly

Built in 1912 and renovated into a luxury hotel, this property certainly looks the part of a landmark location in the city. Rooms vary from being very spacious for the deluxe rooms to the single ones which are much smaller. Well stocked mini bar with free drinks and comfy beds as well as prime location near the train station, shopping and many great neighborhood restaurants (veer to right out of the main entrance towards places like Restaurant21). However, some word of caution for American travelers used to central air conditioning - there isn’t one but they have climate control and fans. Also even in July it wasn’t oppressively hot. Breakfast buffet is nice with all of the standards and a good staff. Gym is small but enough to get a quick workout if all of the walking and biking around town isn’t enough for you. A couple of minor errors from the staff but they were quick to fix and very attentive, thus much appreciated. Overall very pleasant stay and would recommend for anyone looking for a vintage building experience.

Had a problem with the safe, entire safe was replaced in 20 minutes, however little inconvenient as we needed to go out. Chose the green option to not have room cleaned so had complimentary drink, drink limited to small beer or house wine, not a great incentive and the service from the 2 male staff in the bar/restaurant not too friendly We chose this hotel as it has a pool, jacuzzi and steam room but the jacuzzi and steam room out of order, only the saunas working, so a bit disappointing as lots of other hotels nearby and possibly cheaper Other than that great location, friendly front of house staff and technicians. Lovely mini break

😀Geschichtsträchtiges Haus, sehr schön instandgehalten. Großes, vielfältiges Frühstücksangebot. Toller SPA Bereich, angenehme Wassertemperatur im Pool -geöffnet von 7-23 Uhr! Riesiges Zimmer, sehr kleines Bad. ☹️Ich würde mir vom Hotel wünschen, dass es zumindest auf ein „angemessenes Erscheinungsbild“ der Gäste Wert legt und die Gäste auch darauf aufmerksam macht. Es ist eine 5Stern Haus, ein Teil der Gäste kommt in Flip Flops und Pyjama zum Frühstück. Ob extrem dick oder auch dünn, extremst kurze Pyjamahosen gehören da nicht hin und sind wirklich widerlich zum ansehen. Toleranz hin oder her. ☹️Hygiene (WC im Zimmer wurde zumindest 1xnicht geputzt, Im Hallenbad auch Auffälligkeiten das Putzen betreffend). ☹️Instandhaltungen im SPA Bereich: Whirlpool Düsen nicht mehr verstellbar, Nackenstützen fehlen zum Teil. Einzelduschkabinentür defekt.

Slitet, hår i vasken, inget vatten i gymmet. Lite långsam incheckning, bubbelpool under reparation. Okej, men kommer nog inte tillbaka tyvärr

Beautiful old building from 1700s. Modern facility with fantastic spa area with pool, sauan, infa red, steam and hot tub.

The positive of this hotel is the history in the building & walkable distance to the central train station and many other attractions/neighbouhood. Unfortunately, the disadvantages are more as the hotel pool area is in dire need of a facelift, whirlpool was colder water than the main pool, jets didn’t work, steam sauna out of order. Our room wasn’t ready till 5pm, we were compensated with a free soft drink in the restaurant. 2nd day our room door lock was disconnected and multiple staff to fix it, our room wasn’t cleaned that day either. For the price & five star rating I was pretty disappointed overall.

Great hotel and location but lifts didn't work.

The hotel is a maze and they really need to step up the signs and make it intuitive. This is my third stay here and people are always roaming the corridors for the reception or their room. I overheard some of the staff telling a guest they would nead the bell boy to take th to their room as the frequently got calls from guests not able to find their room. Signs are placed here and there, but not intuitive, font is difficult to read and the signs are black on brass, so low contrast. There is also only one lift which takes forever to arrive when there is some traffic. And it doesn’t help that the basement is marked green on the lift’s buttons, sending people into the basement instead of the ground floor/reception. I seriously don’t understand why this isn’t fixed? I suggest the hire in a service designer to make the hotel navigatable for guests. The building is worn down with old carpets and wear and tear on skirtings, door posts and furniture. But! The location is great, prices fair, breakfast good and staff is doing a good job! (PS, Sitting in the bar hearing the bar manager barking at the bartender (“You work for me”) reflects poor management skills and ruins the mood in the room.). Will I stay here again? Yes for sure!

Stilig rom, dårlig vask.

Mir gefällt dieses alte Gebäude mit Ziegelmauerwerk, maritimen Motiven und dieser alte Stil. Es erinnert mich jedes Mal an ein Geisterschloss oder fast schon an den Film Shining. Was mir leider nicht so gefällt ist immer wieder die Sauberkeit (im WC schwamm noch ein U-Boot lol), Staub, unter dem Bett lagen Schokoladenverpackungen, eine Süssigkeit die vergessen gegangen ist usw. Einfach diese kleinen Details, die den Unterschied machen. Ich war sicherlich schon 4 Mal dort und es schwankt von gut bis mittelmässig. Schade, weil es mir hier sehr gut gefällt. Die Bar ist Top und die Mitarbeiter sind immer sehr entgegenkommend und freundlich. Was auch nicht so toll war, dass das Zimmer in der 1sten Etage auf der Seite der Grachten war, was Autolämmer im 5-15 Minuten Rhythmus bedeutet, Fussgänger die Lärm machen (besoffen oder nüchtern) und die Flugzeuge, die deutlich zugekommen haben. Ich warm mal in einem Zimmer im Innenhof und da war es deutlich leiser.

An ok 3 star property lacking the basics of kind hospitality, cleanliness or comfort. From the dirty hallways, curt staff (bellboys were nice though) dirty and broken gym, 9:00 am mini bar knock etc. Dirt hallways, musty smell, dark rooms, horrible housekeeping staff etc etc etc. Property should not be listed as 5 star!!!

Staff were helpful and friendly. Room was spotlessly clean. Service was outstanding. I would reccommend.

Zimmer war nachts zu kalt. Zimmer war schmutzig (Haarbüschel, viel Stau, Badezimmer roch die ganze Zeit nach Abfluss, es gab Silberfischchen in der Wanne). Personal hat nicht wirklich geholfen. Housekeeping hat nicht gut geputzt.

Bra hotell med trevligt spa och pool. Frukosten är utmärkt. Det enda som verkligen behöver förbättras är städ. Ibland kommer dom inte alls och om dom väl kommer så är det efter 16. Jag har bott här många gånger och vid varje tillfälle minst tre nätter. Städ har varit lika varje gång. I övrigt är det ett toppenhotell med nära till allt.

Clean room, amazing size bath in the delux room with canal view!

The room I checked into was dirty — I found hair on the sheets. The bathroom was dirty as well. The trash can still had leftovers from the previous guest. I stayed for 5 nights and only managed, after complaining, to have my room cleaned twice — and even then, it was done poorly: the bed wasn’t made properly, no toilet paper was replaced, and no soap or shampoo was provided. The room was old and dark, with a view of the windows of other hotel rooms and an old small TV I ordered room service and the food was inedible. The word that best describe this hotel is DIRTINESS

Very nice room, annoying the windows didn’t open and no lock on bathroom door or much privacy. However very nice staff and great atmosphere.

Very Good hotel in an almost great location near Central Station. Our junior suite was very large with 29 foot ceilings. Excellent breakfast

No air condition room is hot

Lovely old hotel. The staff were excellent. It was very hot and there is no A/C. We were on the 4th floor with a very small window which did not open very far. The thick wall retained the heat and it stayed hot all night. I booked a "canal view" room at extra cost. The window was high and small. You had to stand on a platform to look out the window and even then, the buildings ornamentation blocked a good part of the view. Save your money and avoid the "canal view"

Very comfortable bed but room too hot.

The staff are great. The hotel is probably lovely…. I say probably because I had the smallest and most uncomfortable room I’ve ever booked. The website said rooms were full so I knew it was a single. But the picture looked fairly good. I didn’t realize that there wasn’t even enough space on the side of the bed to walk. I had to crawl in, things didn’t work - the plug in the bathroom (which was small as well and would be hard to navigate if you were a bit on the larger size), there wasn’t a robe (although the website said to expect one) and the closet was close to nonexistent. I had no place to put my backpack and if I’d had luggage I don’t think it would have fit. Yet, this room with taxes cost 260 USA. They shouldn’t let it out. I feel quite ripped off. I would have left if it hadn’t been late and I was tired from having all my flights canceled for the second day in a row (hence the no luggage). Get a clue people and use this space for storage.

Beautiful well maintained historic hotel near Amsterdam Centraal. Small but nice room with a very tall ceiling and a canal view. Large well appointed bathroom with double sinks, seperate bath and shower, and an actual hinged well-sealed shower door. What was a little off is that the hinged non-latching door to the bathroom was beautiful frosted glass with a clear (non-frosted) anchor design at eye level. This means that anybody standing outside the closed bathroom door could see somebody bathing or using the toilet. The room had a coffee maker and hot water heater with complimentary coffee and tea. Robes and slippers were provided and there was an iron, ironing board, safe, and refrigerator if you removed their mini-bar waters and Cokes. There was no complimentary daily bottled waters, unlike mostvof my other less expensive hotels on this trip. The bed was awful. The worst on my long 51-day trip. It had a king sized headboard but was made of two matresses with a huge canyon between. It had two unsecured matress pads that moved during sleep. The bottom sheet wasn't fitted and always quickly came loose. The bedding looked like it exploded every morning.

The ladies at the front desk need to be more friendly, they can learn from concuerge team, restaurant staff, and cleaning staff.

I took my parents to Amsterdam as part of a long-anticipated trip. My mom has been wanting to come to Amsterdam for years and the Grand Amrath was a wonderful place to call home base for the week. I actually made a booking mistake - I forgot the date change flying from the US to The Netherlands. Our reservation wound up being canceled because I didnt realize my mistake until our layover in Reykjavik. But I explained my error to the front desk and they had us rebooked and sorted in a matter of minutes. Humphrey and Julia helped me avoid a nightmare! Also, the hotel breakfast buffet is delicious. A little pricey, but food has lots of fresh bread, fruits, meats and cheeses. So worth it. The central location of the hotel also made it easy for us to move through our packed itinerary.

From the beginning it was a failor. The front desk (the girl with Hijab) has written on the document I’m American. She has my passport so I needed to insist I’m Italian, not America and without a correct document I can’t have my cash back from the society. She replied me to correct by myself, do a line and write the correct citizenship… I asked a copy of the document I filled and to print me a very short letter about the deposit. She denied . I arrived in the room and immediately I asked a second blanket and paper toilet. From the lobby they have assured me someone it’s coming . After 35 minute I called them and they told me everyone is busy so to wait . So I replied I’ll go to take a blanket to some housekeeping. I founded them and the two guys decided to write in some chat the permits to give me a blanket . So I told them in a 5 star hotel the blanket and extra pillows should be inside the wardrobe… Especially if outside there is a storm… When I went for the third time to the lobby , almost two hours later my check in and I was ready to go in an other hotel and do a scandal, I found a third housekeeping who gave me one blanket At the check out I asked to the concierge help me to use Uber application, some minute later I found a taxi driver. I told them uber and taxi are not the same thing but the poor taxi driver has convinced me don’t waste the call… What a nightmare! One star maximum . I’m in shock

Check in was not satisfactory, one staff was accomodating but was put in place by his colleague and we were not allowed to check in 30 min before 15. The hotel feels like a maze but the room was nice, although it was possible to hear the traffic outside and it would be good if the hotel choses to reduce this since you buy rest and sleep. The spa was nice and we enjoyed it. Breakfast was also good, I had the eggs benedict which is one of my favourites and it was good ! But for the price, it can only be average

Amazing place. Very helpful staff.

Accommodating on letting us check in early. Staff member tried to let themselves into the room without knocking. Not great communication between staff when we asked for something, something else was being brought up instead. Jacuzzi was cold and the bubbles were excessive on one half of the tub but non existent on the other side.

Despite requesting a twin room (not a double) three times by email and receiving reply that the hotel would do their best to accommodate but could not guarantee (fair enough), the lady on the reception said they had no note of the request and could only put a note on the system and check the following day.

The staff service was fantastic, especially with handling our luggage. Many thanks.

Room was spacious and i enjoyed the amenities. However cleaning was poor. Coffee cups dirty and stained that required cleaning. Windows stained and cracking. I was not provided slippers nor a robe which I saw other guests with. My biggest complaint was a 4 hour late checkin. I arrived at 10h excepting to wait until 15h

Really impressive grand hotel with friendly staff and lovely big rooms. We had a great view and a comfy bed. What more can you ask for? Location was great, very close to the central station and near the heart of the city. Wouod very happily stay here again

Great location friendly staff

What a grand hotel this is! The staff were very nice and accommodating. There was a mixup with our reservation, which they remedied by giving us a better room with a view. In the 1800s, this was the place where people came to buy tickets for sea travel and merchants dealt with shipping cargo, etc. Many of the guest rooms were once ticket or business offices, retaining much of its old world charm. It is worth the time to walk around the inside and outside of the hotel. Outside there are many stone carvings, which probably represented the different shipping companies inside. Some of the tour guides say that the hotel is haunted, but we did not run into any ghosts. It is within a few blocks of Central Station, the Nieuw Markt and several restaurants. Directly across the canal is a nice-sized grocery store. It should be noted that there are several steps from the street to the lobby and that although there is no handrail, you can grasp onto the stone wall and carvings. Once inside, there is a lift and rooms come with both a bathtub and walk-in shower.

We stayed three nights. Easy check in, easy check out. No issues at all. Room is very big. Location is perfect. Very close to Amsterdam Central Station, but quiet. Hotel has the character and atmosphere of the Amsterdam.

Central location, friendly staffs, spacious room, the bed and pillows were really comfortable. It has a wellness center and a gym, perfect for some exercises and a spa after a busy day. Rich breakfast, and tasty food. Everything was good!

Hôtel génial! Notre chambre nous a été donné gentiment à 8h30 au lieu de 15h car elle était prête! Le petit déjeuner est tout simplement fabuleux!!! L hôtel est au calme mais au cœur de la ville, on y retournera avec plaisir!

Not a great choice and not a lot of table and chairs . had a omelette made for us ridiculous amount of cooking oil cooked in . this hotel could learn from the Hilton across the road

Service was incredible. The entire staff was very helpful. Breakfast buffet was very good, but pricey if you don’t get it included in your room rate. The location is excellent, 10 minutes to the central train station with access to trams, and ferries, but the area is quite walkable. It is on the edge of the red light district but you can go there or avoid it easily. Pop for a canal view. The bar is really special, great snacks, drinks, and you can have a full dinner there. All the rooms are different, a bit quirky but very charming. Beautiful wood hallways and lots of art deco touches, worth a walk around the hotel. We stay here whenever we come to Amsterdam.

Cool historic hotel in a good location, but was missing key amenities. First, there was no elevator to the ground floor/basement where my room was. Second, when I called for room service, I was informed they could only provide drinks as the kitchen was being renovated. But when I walked by the restaurant upstairs, it seemed people were being served food. Lastly, loud jackhammer noise was outside my room in the morning starting at 8 AM, which I thought was maybe from the kitchen "renovations."

The room and bathroom were a good size. The fridge was stocked with complimentary water and sodas. On this trip we stayed at several hotels and this was the only hotel where the glasses were clean. Actually, they were spotless. Breakfast included a wide variety of food and you could order from a list of egg dishes including eggs Benedict and omelettes.

Little weekend in Amsterdam to relax and enjoy. This hotel is well located. The staff was helpful and friendly. The food was mediocre however and I found it overpriced in general. We enjoyed the pool.

The breakfast is out if this world! Absolutely amazing!!! We enjoyed the heated pool and hot tub! The bar and restaurants are gorgeous!
