Good value , plenty of parking

As we go away most weekends and stayed in many hotels we were surprised they took an extra £50 deposit. This would be returned after inspection of the room and could take up to 14 days. Also we were charged an extra £3.25 for breakfast as we had not pre booked.We were also put on the 3rd floor ( 4 flights of stairs and no lift) and as we are 76 years old to carry cases etc was a strain. I asked about rooms on the ground floor and was told they only had 2 double rooms, This seemed ridiculous in a hotel this size.

We stayed here for a weekend away .Good location with ample secure parking . Friendly staff.Easy registration process. Very high standards of cleanliness in all shared areas and the bedroom. Everything was spotless .Good quality linens too .Perfect for a short stay as it was close to Durham, Beamish etc .Only minor point was the lack of a lift to the upper floors but there were accessible rooms on the ground floor We did not have the cooked breakfast or hot meals but the menu looked good for the price Dining area looked clean .

Overall good value for money. Paintwork and general appearance a bit tired and could do with a bit of TLC. Road up to hotel needs attention, very tight bend with poor surface. Room was clean with working facilities, again a bit tired but functional. Staff very friendly and helpful. Lovely breakfast with a good choice.

First impressions were spoilt be the pot holes in the driveway leading to the car park and the reception area just being a computer situated on the end of the bar. Room was clean and bed very comfy. Breakfast was ok but nothing special. Considering the price paid, overall I would give the hotel a score of 7 out of 10

Basic but clean. Evening meals and breakfasts expensive but a chain pub and carvery down the road was inexpensive. Advertised Electric Vehicle Charging but they were Tesla only.

Nice clean rooms, great free safe parking. Nothing is a problem with the staff. Good breakfast, not many guests seem to use this service though, maybe lower the price and you will attract more guests buying instead of losing them to the nearby Toby inn breakfast. All in all I will always use this hotel , friendliness,clean and great staff.

The Campanile is conveniently located off the A1(M) - there's a little traffic noise as the double glazing is fairly thin. The room was clean, with a comfortable bed and pillows, and a bath and shower. Everything worked fine - the TV has the Freeview channels, including radio, which is good. There's plenty of parking, shared with a Tesla recharging station. It's possible to walk to a pub (Toby carvery) or, with a bit of ingenuity, to the Southbound Washington service area (you need to go up to a signed footpath, then immediately left through a gate on a muddy footpath which has Greggs, Costa, Burger King and WH Smith for essentials. Useful if travelling from the South to Scotland as a half way break.

Good selection for breakfast and the full cooked breakfast was excellent. An enjoyable two night stay and would definitely recommend.

I would not recommend this property as things are broken and falling to bits. The window was broken and the sockets were hanging off the wall. The bathroom facilities were falling to bits. The hairdryer was dangerous due to external and internal damage.The portion of breakfast wasn't adequate hashbrowns tasted like they were deep fried. The bacon was overcooked.

Hotel is probably the worst we have ever stayed in Basic is an understatement the beds were like Z beds and very uncomfortable the bathroom left a lot to be desired and the large amount of rust around the plug hole in the bath stopped us using the shower yes you get what you pay for but it was a similar price to the Premier Inn next door which was sadly full but from past experience is far superior just thank goodness it was only one night

Needs a bit of a freshen up. the bathroom was not as clean as it could be as there was still hair on the floor. There was no TV remote in the room and we had to ask for a replacement.

The hotel is easy to find and has plenty of parking. Rooms were cosy, clean and comfortable. Infact the rooms were spotless with attention to detail. The hotel could do with a little TLC here and there, but overall excellent for the price paid.

The room was dirty only bed and towels had be been chamged was still rubish left in room carpet hadnot been hoovered was still poo stains in toilet no soap or shampoo in despensors the tv was held together with black tape and half channels didnot work was very unsatisfied

Rooms are basic but very clean.Staff were very efficient and pleasant. The breakfast was excellent and very fresh. As much as you wanted. This is always our place of choice when visiting the Durham area.

Albeit this was just somewhere to stay at night, for my onward journey. Cheap and cheerful. But few things I think need looked at, there is yellow stains in the bathroom one of the main lights didn’t work, TV is ritually stuck together with tape, and took me a while to turn it on to realise it was unplugged. Did what it needed I suppose but yeah… get some tlc!

Compact but clean and comfortable and excellent value. Only a single 13amp socket, at ground level, near the door. Fortunately, we always travel with an extension lead and a multiple usb charger. Unintended amusement was provided by a printed appeal to save energy, which has clearly been translated from French by someone whose native language is not English.

Check in was ok,room was very basic. Disappointing only one plug socket available in the room when kettle was not in use,no sockets near to the two single beds. The pillows were terrible causing a very restless night for both of us,one bed felt like it was on a skateboard, moving across the room at the slightest touch. After a poor nights sleep to be woken up and walked in on at 10.10am by cleaning staff, shouting "hello,hello,"I'll come back" when check out is not untill 12pm midday. Very disappointed compared to Campanile hotel we stayed at in liverpool last year..

Tired and old and faulty shower. Thin walls..Staff great though.

Very old outdated rooms with no attempt to maintain Beds terrible had to sleep on top of quilt and room very cold as the ancient heater did not work Would never use again

Staff were friendly, parking was easy and the hotel was ok. Felt safe during our stay. Hotel is unfortunately quite dated, and the bed was uncomfortable. It was ok for what we paid but definitely had better experiences elsewhere.

Room was great for what we needed if I was nit picking only thing i could pick at is there was only one plug socket available but managed to charge our phones

Hotel was ok. One night f twin beds could do with new mattress. Shortsge electric sockets (only 1) so not enough to charge devices. Room a bit tired. Television poor quality. Breakfast excellent.

The bed was not comfortable at all. I got a back pain Two small bed was attached to make it large as well as mattress and the joining was terrible. I can feel the joining wooden edge in the middle of the bed.

Overall the hotel was good. Very dated but room itself was spotless. Lovely shower. Room window not as secure as should be so noise from A1 a bit distracting. Felt every spring in the mattress.

I visit Liverpool on a regular basis and the Campanile comes up all the time but I never booked it. This time as I was visiting clients in Gateshead so gave it a go. Lots of scuff marks on the outside of the room doors and very basic inside which is actually ok. The staff was very friendly and helpful, so well done to them. The shower in my room was not working, the mechanism for putting it on was broken. I could not shower before my business meeting so just freshen up. I told the cleaning staff before leaving for my meeting and it was the first thing I wanted to do upon my return. Disappointing that despite it being listed as fixed at reception it was still broken so I was moved to another room. The bed was about as bad as I've tried to sleep in. I could feel the springs poking me as I lied there. Instead of checking out at the normal time and having my breakfast as planned, I left at 1:30 am, there was no way I was going to stay another night in that bed and then drive a few hours to my home. If I was going to stay awake then might as well go home. This is not a place I would ever consider again. I want three simple things when staying at a hotel, cleanliness, friendly capable staff and a good night sleep, well one out of three is bad.

This is a nice hotel with all the required amenities. The room was cosy and functional for what we needed. The breakfast was excellent, lots to choose from and all very fresh. The staff could not have been more helpful and were extremely accomodating. The prices were extremely reasonable. I would definitely stay there again.

Excellent service from the two youngsters who were on duty that evening Keira and Radham, I think they were. Cheerful and attentive, without being intrusive. They made for a pleasant end to what had been a very trying day. The hotel was in pretty good condition. Needs some tlc but clean and functional. Rather better than my experience in Glasgow. My faith in Campanile is somewhat restored by Washington. The burger was good, too.

The staff were lovely and the hotel clean. The room was spot on with tv, kettle and en suite bathroom. The hotel was situated close to the places of interest we wanted to visit, easy to find and in a quiet area.

The hotel was well placed for our 1 night stay to visit. Used nearby Toby Carvery for food. The room was basic but that is whag we expected for the price we paid because it was convenient.

Easy access for A1M, Tesla EV charging (not open to all) choice of eating places nearby aswell as onsite Campanile restaurant

The room was clean tidy comfortable and quiet( 2nd floor room rear facing). The shower was very powerful. Overall a very good value for money stay. Also located close to A1M so i was able to easily visit the places i had planned to see on my trip.

Decent hotel at a fair rate. The free wi-fi was welcome. It would be good if there was a proper path from the hotel to Washington Services Southbound (for those not in a car and needing to access the Services). We had to walk through a muddy field!

Looks are deceiving, when we walked in i thought OMG what have i booked corridor looked a bit taty, the rooms are basic, but it was only a couple of nights as a base camp. I actually slept through 6 hrs solid, bed was comfy, shower temp brilliant. I will definitely book here again. The evening food menu is limited choice.

This is a great hotel at a great price. Stopped many times and always fabulous. Rooms are spacious, clean and well equipped. Staff are a joy to deal with add that little bit extra to the stay - as does the breakfast which I would recommend purchasing. The bar area is great with TVs, board games and always good company.
