I stayed at Hotel 39 Jamaica for five nights, and unfortunately the experience was extremely disappointing and concerning from a safety standpoint. For three of the five nights, the safe in our room was not working. We specifically chose a hotel with a safe so we could securely store passports and valuables while out during the day. We requested a room change early on, but the hotel repeatedly refused, claiming they were fully booked every night. It took until the third day for them to replace the safe. At that point, we discovered something even worse — the balcony door did not lock. The room was on a low second-floor level facing the back, making it easily accessible from outside. So for multiple days, we had no working safe AND an unsecured balcony without even realizing it. As a parent traveling with a child, this was completely unacceptable. The hotel’s response was minimal. Instead of offering a solution, we were told to use the “Do Not Disturb” sign. However, housekeeping still entered the room despite the sign being clearly displayed. When we raised this at the front desk, there was no real explanation or accountability. Maintenance eventually placed a cut broomstick in the door as a temporary fix, which is honestly unacceptable for a paying guest. No effort was made to move us to another room at any point.
