I stayed in one of the old hotel buildings perched on the hill next to their ceremonial garden. The property is very well maintained as is the pool. The room had every basic amenity that I needed. We had a wonderful time at the property. The room was very comfortable, and we really enjoyed the complimentary coffee, tea and pastries. The property is very clean, and every employee was very nice and courteous. We took advantage of the workout facility which was a few cardio machines (treadmill, bike, elliptical and row machine) along with dumbbells and a bench. The landscaping at the Inn was really beautiful. We will definitely come back again.

Chrissy was so nice as our server! I left my bag behind and they held on to it. No money was missing and they asked a few questions to be sure the right person got it. That says a lot right there. The bakery help was genuinely caring and helpful. Try the pecan sticky buns! You ll thank me! The pool was so clean. It's salt water according to my husband. It was very empty too. This is very close to Old Sturbridge Village.

This is the quintessential Americana motor lodge. It is strategically located in the center of New England. It is no frills, but good clean basic accommodations. I enjoyed the complimentary pastries and coffee for breakfast. It has a nice pool and a basic Fitness room. The two buildings on the lower level have good Wi-Fi but the upper two buildings do not. Keep this in mind if you are planning to work remotely.

We booked one night for some pool time and a little “staycation” for the weekend. The kids had a blast at the pool and it was great to be able to bring our dog. The property is beautiful and quiet. The room could be better without a carpet, but otherwise everything eas great.

We stayed at The Publick House for 2 nights while visiting family in the area. Because we traveled with our dog, we stayed in the motel section up the hill behind the Inn. The property is beautiful, and they have a great bakery onsite. They also have a restaurant and tavern, which we did not visit due to travelling with our dog. They also have a lovely clean pool. Our room in the motel was quite large but extremely dated. There were a few rust spots in the tub and the wallpaper on the walls need to be replaced with paint. The entire room badly needs updating. One thing I liked was the fact we had a balcony overlooking the woods, However, I don’t think it had been swept/cleaned in months. The inside of the room was clean enough but the balcony was so dirty it made it unpleasant to sit out there. Overall, we really liked The Publick House but something needs to be done about the motel rooms.

Directly outside our bedroom window were several exhaust fans for the property's restaurant kitchen. The fans were extremely loud and vibrated through the wall and headboard! We were told that the fans would stop running at 7:00pm. However, there was also a function that evening and they ran for several more hours. Additionally, we could hear the music from the function loud and clear. Given the laughing and singing, it was great time! Later we awoke to banging and loud noises that we assume were from the clean-up crew. The room was fine and we really wanted to enjoy our stay but it's very difficult to do with all the noises and three hours sleep.

To be clear, we stayed in the lodge section of hotel, not historic inn. To summarize, 1) we had ac issues two days in a row ultimately requiring us on second day to move rooms; told to pack up our belongings (a pain as we did a lot of antique shopping) and drive down to front desk for new room assignment only to find out that we were being moved one floor down in same building leaving us to wonder why we had to pack everything and load it in vehicle when we could have just carried our belongings one floor down, 2) delay in allowing us to speak to manager about issues resulting in missing our dinner plans, 3) told by manager we could eat in Publick House restaurant while she worked on ac issue (she promised a table) only to find out at restaurant that there was no table for us and it would be 45 minute wait, 4) when given key to new room, key did not work TWICE requiring us to drive back to office TWICE, had to wait on maintenance to fix lockset issue; 5) both lodge rooms we stayed in were very damp - damp clothing & bedding; uncomfortable! NO type of compensation was offered to us despite all of the inconveniences - not that I expect handouts, but when this many things go wrong, some type of consolation would have gone a long way. We will be staying in Sturbridge next May and will NOT stay at Publick House. On a positive note, we loved their restaurant food, servers were excellent and personable, tavern was a quaint place to have a drink, and the bake shop is wonderful!

The girl at the front desk was not very friendly. I was probably the only one staying there that was not going to the flea market that most people staying there were going to. I had never been there before and had no idea where anything was. The girl at the desk gave me quick instructions where to find my room. She also told me breakfast was at 7. I ended up asking people how to find my room. Next day I was waiting around until 7 to eat breakfast. Surprise, the bakery opened at 6 because of the big sale going on. Would have been nice to know. While I understand the place was extremely busy, could have taken an extra minute to help out this first timer. Food was great, location was great. Only problem was the front desk

It goes without saying that the property is exquisite. The accommodations are phenomenal. The rooms are quiet, clean and comfortable. However, the one aspect of our stay that stood out repeatedly was the interaction with the staff. Unfortunately we can only give a 1-star review. When we checked in - the front desk kept answering the phone while we were trying to check in. It was very off-putting. When he finally did attend to us, it felt like his mind was someplace else because he kept repeating himself and talking with the other staff member. When we checked out, the front desk attendee did not ask whether we enjoyed our stay, if there were any problems, what room we were in, etc. It was a very hurried and non-personal experience. A word to management: a quick re-training for front staff in customer service and interaction might be in order. Other than that - the property speaks for itself. This property might benefit from self-check-in service.

We stay at the Publick House Inn 3-4 per year on our trips back and forth between Maine and Ohio. We always try to stay in the historic inn, have dinner and cocktails at Ebeneezer’s Tavern, and start each day at the Bake Shoppe. Front desk staff consistently provide exceptional customer service at check-in and checkout. Ebeneezers Tavern has excellent food and cocktails. Sarah, our favorite bartender is one of the reasons we return here to eat and drink. The Bake Shoppe is incredible in every aspect the bakers create marvelous pastries and baked goods. The complimentary assortment of baked goods available for breakfast is beyond expectations. Coffe is delicious and offering the offering of Harney and Sons tea raises the bar to a level that would be difficult for other inns and bakeries to achieve. Kathleen, Marie, Donna, and Janessa are so welcoming and friendly you feel like you’re having breakfast with best friends. If you have the opportunity to stay here I highly recommend it. The toughest part is checking out because you won’t want to leave.

Depends who you talk to at the desk. The first young woman would not accommodate us to another room when I complained that the air conditioning was full of dirt so that when I turned the fan on I began to cough… and the window could not open. The second woman when I came back to insist asked the younger one why I was put in that room answered “just because I picked it up“. The older one then moved me to another room. Again, the fan was dirty and a housekeeper came to clean the filter. A window did open.

Due to issues at Boston Logan Airport, we unexpectedly arrived at Publick House Historic Inn without a rental car. This beautiful hotel is spread over a large area and the room we were intended to occupy was some driving distance from the main reception. With no car, we were unable to take the room set aside for us, but were immediately upgraded to a room just steps away and could not have been more grateful to the friendly and welcoming staff.

We stayed at the Publick House 8/22–8/24 while hosting our wedding reception nearby and also booked our rehearsal dinner here. The waiter was friendly and the room was set up nicely, but unfortunately the experience was soured by how management handled an issue with our cake. We spent $145 on a cake that was placed on a lopsided table. Despite staff trying to fix it, the cake began collapsing during the dinner. Later, management claimed the cake toppled because of a vase of flowers (which it did not) and told my in-laws they had to pay the full amount. To make things worse, we also learned expired sodas were served, yet we were still charged in full. The space is beautiful, but the way the situation was handled—placing blame on us instead of taking responsibility—was extremely disappointing for such a special occasion.

Very beautiful property with many options of spaces to stay! Also a very delicious restaurant and bakery. We loved the history and I couldn’t get enough of the all the unique wallpaper. Things that could be better is knowing how to get around. I’m still confused if there was two restaurants. The buildings are all disconnected so you may have to drive from your room to the main building. It was also difficult to get in and out of the property with the one ways.

This is a very large property with many buildings.It was very difficult to find the registration. Needs a clear sign. Our initial room was in the upper buildings. They are pretty worn. Would have been ok but the air conditioner didn't work. We were told to unplug the AC and plug back in and wait 10 minutes. After 15 minutes still not working. We had reserved two queen beds and they said they only had room with one queen bed. I asked about king and they said we would have to pay more money. So I asked for my money back and we would go somewhere else. I was met with a rather rude comment of I cant give you back all your money because it is too late. After I got upset and told them it's not my fault your equipment doesn't work they decided to give us the king at the same price. The new building (Chamberlain house I think) was a very nice, clean and a great room. I wold have given them a straight 5 if we didn't have so much trouble with finding registration and AC not working. Also, the bakery has the best pastries and gets a solid 5! The coffee, pastries and staff were outstanding!

Oh my gosh, besides the overall coolness and history of the property, the FOOD at the restaurant from the breadbasket to the turkey dinner we both had, was out of this world deliciousness!! The sticky buns that come in the breadbasket were the best we've ever had. Our waitress was the best ever. I wish I could remember her name, but she was so pleasant (and she had dimples, if that helps in giving her recognition :-) Thank you for the best stay and I have never seen a more amazing bakery, even in Europe. YUMMM!!!!

We liked the property once we figured out how to get to the rooms. I don’t believe the food in the dining room was up to standard. I had pot roast and it was very dry. More gravy didn’t help. My wife's fish was perfect. Service was ok. On site bakery was very good. The grounds and plantings are beautiful. I am handicapped but they put me on the second floor. Climbing stairs with luggage isn't fun for me.

We loved finding this historic inn and property. The grounds landscaping and flowers were outstanding- as a gardener I was in awe of the size and fullness of all the flowers and shrubs! Our room was clean and lovely in Chamberlain house and situated next door to the historic building g. Great coffee macon e in lobby offered lattes and cappuccinos which were very good. we ate at the Tap Room and food was pretty good- lots of comfort food dishes. Outdoor tables were nice but mosquitos were bad- should have some sort of lanterns or citronella lamps to decrease it. Only critique is the Bake shop. pastries included with coffee /tea to overnight guests from 7-11 but very sparse offerings from 930 on. These should be replenished until 11 as it is an open bakery and they can and do sell anything g remaining. When we asked for more than the two items available, the young woman was not friendly and accomodating and stated the time which was 1030… a full half hour before end of breakfast service. We asked the other woman when she came out of the back and she was reluctant and also not accomodating. not good guest relations to have that experience. It was as if they wanted to put less out so guests would purchase all the other items instead. Not ok. Otherwise a wonderful stay and we will return at Thanksgiving!
