Good, clean, single room with good shower. Excellent value for special price. Good balcony with sea view but not clean. Advertising on Hotels.com for this booking did not make it clear the balcony was shared and therefore inside the room was visable at all times by other guests, unless curtains were closed.

Clean and friendly place to stay no frills stay. The room was freshly decorated but no pictures and the lighting was harsh with no bedside lamps. The WiFi was poor with no internet in the room. Staff were helpful and friendly great for a visit to the theatres.

The hotel has a great location on the seafront yet near to restaurants and bars in town . Staff were lovely. Our room however, although clean really needed the furniture updating. It was also far too hot but on request we were pleased to have a fan provided which helped. It was great to have a side sea view. We didn’t eat there but the bar service was good.

Great position on seafront. Single room on top floor, a bit hot, but a fan was quickly supplied on request. Over -friendly seagull rather annoying tapping on my window on 4 or 5 occasions! Another guest must’ve fed it. Comfy bed, reasonable Wi-Fi (not great), breakfast good, especially tasty sausage (after I sent it back because pink inside). Overall, good value. All staff were pleasant and helpful.

Great hotel, staff very friendly. Great location. Hotel gave parking voucher for on street parking, very good price. Evening meal was lovely and good value. Room was basic but had everything needed, tea/coffee/hairdryer etc. The only slight issue was the beds and pillows were hard. Would recommend hotel and would definately stay there again.

The hotel was spotlessly clean and the staff were brilliant. There was renovation work going on in the hotel next door which caused noise. Because of the age of the hotel there were some very creaky floorboards, both in our room and the room above us.

We found bedbugs in our bed. We were relocated. On checking out another resident was complaining that he found human faeces under his bed in a room he’d been moved to also having found bedbugs in the first. I’ve stayed here before but am very unlikely to return.

Lovely looking Hotel, friendly reception on arrival. Nice room, but had to move rooms in the middle of the night after being bitten by a bedbug, the staff pulled up the carpet the next morning and found more bedbugs lurking but didn't give a fig for my welfare and didn't seem at all concerned with my experience.

The room was just about acceptable however the bathroom was completely unacceptable. Like a cupboard with nowhere to place personable possessions. The windows did not close properly therefore the road noise was severe.

The hotel is in a great location, right opposite the sea front. The staff are friendly from the front desk team to the housekeepers- all very nice. The sleep quality is very good; comfy beds, pillows and nice linen. The hotel itself is very dated and in desperate need of an update. Threadbare chairs, dirty carpets and old skool decoration. I can forgive the decoration as it does have a charm, but replace the chairs that are so worn you don’t even want to sit on them. It is quiet for saying the location, however the rooms do get hot and there’s no fan. This is especially difficult when they tell you not to open the window due to seagulls. The shower is bad, more like a portable tap than a shower really. It’s fine- but there does need to be investment to bring this hotel up to standard; not even former glory.

We enjoyed the close proximity to the waterfront and city centre. All staff were very nice and helpful. However the interior of the property requires updating. While we recognize the properties historical significance, the rooms require modernization, bathrooms are small, poor air circulation (felt stuffy) with no fan or ac, window screen to keep bugs out. The bed linens and bath linens were low quality, would have been nice to have a hand towel or face cloths. Small changes would have improved the experience, especially given the location opportunity.

I have mobility problems and my friend and I were put on the fourth floor. Unfortunately the bathroom was so small the toilet was stuck between the toilet roll and the shower with hardly any room to move so I couldn't use the shower also the width between the wall and shower was the size of the wash basin. I think my hall cupboard was bigger than that bathroom. The actual bedroom was ok but very hot being at the top of the building. Would not like to stay in that room for more Thane one night.

My room was at the front of the hotel with an amazing view of the sea front from 3 huge windows. A classic old English seaside hotel with a lot of character, seems to be slowly and unobtrusively getting some updates - think my room has been recently refreshed and another nearby was being decorated, but it wasn't at all disruptive or very noticeable as it went on. Had everything you need and seconds away from the sea front.

The hotel is large and well presented. The rooms themselves were medium sized and had a shared balcony area above the first floor, and as I have been to Eastbourne countless times at many hotels I would put this definitely in the upper ranks compared to all others. The man on reception was very friendly and funny. The only downside was that due to being immediately on the seafront, you have no choice but to listen to whatever is playing on the bandstand, which wasn’t great for my mother who wanted an early night.

Like - cleanliness, location, very helpful maintenance man. Dislike - Boiling hot room, no fan, only 1 plug which didn't work, ceiling leaked when it rained, shower holder broken & not much of a flow. Reception not helpful & ignored when I asked for a fan. Looked at me as if it was my fault! Lovely maintenance man got us a fan & an extension lead as we had to unplug the tv which had no space to get another appliance in (kettle) & would have been on the floor!

Great team of staff ; always helpful and chatty what makes for good customer service , the manager is also hands-on and visible ,interacting with guests which is a good sign ; fantastic single room with sea view and looking straight down on the bandstand ( free concerts). Floor board creek like mad but is part of the hotels charm!; reminds me of childhood sea side holiday

We came down to Eastbourne for 4 days of the tennis tournament and chose this hotel for the proximity to the tennis courts (10 minutes walk). We were not disappointed with the choice. We had a large recently refurbished room with a balcony and wonderful sea view. The beds were really comfortable. The buffet breakfast was plentiful with hot and cold choices of food and beverages. The staff were extremely courteous at all times. I would thoroughly recommend this hotel for a wonderful stay in Eastbourne.

I needed a quick break and The Cumberland met the bill (this was my first visit). Staff were courteous, helpful and friendly whilst the breakfast was amply sufficient and good quality. The room was bigger than I had expected and came equipped with a fan since we were in the middle of a heat wave and I think this top floor room was hot at the best of times. I really like these characterful Victorian hotels with their old world charm and decor. Much more interesting in my mind than a boxy travelodge or similar! Definitely would recommend the hotel and I hope to go back soon.

This Hotel should be done up quickly. Our room/cupboard with a view of the rusty fire escape was outdated with a bathroom door out of the Ark, As for the breakfast, we payed £20 to make our own! make your own tea/coffee, toast, from a 2 slice 1930's toaster, form an ordely queue. No rolls/pastries/fresh fruit, just prunes and the hot food served out of a trolley/ban marie. Cheapest cereals as well. No parking, not even disabled. We left early.
