This was not our first stay in Luzern; we had previously stayed at another well‑regarded hotel, but would now recommend Des Balances without hesitation. The attention to detail and cleanliness is impeccable, and the staff are efficient, friendly and accommodating. Our room was maintained daily to a very high standard, and both breakfast and the one evening meal we had were superb. Most of all, we felt a genuine sense of belonging during our eight‑day stay. Des Balances isn’t a large hotel, and its size makes it feel personal. We were comfortable in the bar, on the terrace and in the lounge, and never felt like clients being processed. Staff recognised us and treated us with respect, good humour and understanding. The location is excellent: in the Old Town beside the River Reuss, close to Unter der Egg but not overwhelmed by crowds. It’s convenient for shops and less than ten minutes’ easy walk from the quay and railway station. Our river‑view room was a delight, overlooking the Kapellbrücke and towards the lake, both at night and in Luzern’s early‑morning calm. Two minor downsides: reception is up a flight of stairs from the Metzgerrainle entrance, so arriving on foot may require help with luggage or using the Unter der Egg entrance. The hotel does have a small lift. The other quirk is breakfast pricing—either a fixed‑price buffet or per‑item ordering—which seemed confusing for guests and staff alike. Not a complaint, simply an observation.

Nice stay, wished they included the breakfast. Lucerne overall was very expensive. People unfortunately were not very friendly towards tourists

Our stay at Hotel des Balances was exceptional from the moment we arrived. We traveled during the railroad strike coming from Italy, and Vanessa at reception immediately brought a sense of calm and reassurance during what could have been a very stressful arrival. Our reservation was fully prepared, check-in was seamless, and the professionalism shown by the staff throughout our stay never wavered. The room itself was spectacular. Beautifully maintained, comfortable, and thoughtfully prepared with personal touches that made the experience feel welcoming and refined. The view was truly outstanding, and the double French doors opening onto the balcony added the perfect touch each morning. Waking up to that atmosphere made the stay feel even more special. The location could not have been better. Everything was within walking distance, including the train station, restaurants, shopping, and the waterfront, making it incredibly easy to enjoy Lucerne. The level of care shown by the hotel team stood out once again when we received notice the night before departure that our flight had been rescheduled. The staff handled the situation with professionalism, patience, and genuine attentiveness, allowing us additional time in the room to ease the stress of the unexpected delay. Hotel des Balances delivers an elevated experience through its exceptional service, beautiful accommodations, and prime location. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Lucerne, as well as returning
