It was a confusing check in process. I was told my room was not available because hotel was overbooked. For several minutes there was no solution. Then we were offered an accessible room”, without much information about how it was different from the room we had booked. So after I refused, magically a room was available. Staff was friendly, but the experience was long and frustrating nonetheless. And the elevator nightmare did not help. I see the system was “updated” some ten years ago and it was bad then and still bad today. I have exactly the same system in the building I work, and there is a very stark difference: in an office building, each person counts only as one. So at the turnstile the information of 1 person going to a specific floor is sent to the elevator. This does NOT work well in a hotel, where someone giving the command may be accompanied by 2, 3, 4 other people. It was long. Frustrating. Several times it was overcrowded and we could not get in. Then when inside, it would stop everywhere. Again, the intended “load balancing” is not adapted to only 4 elevators, a large conference and groups of people

This hotel was lovely and looked clean. We enjoyed our stay. We used the gym, pool, and picked up our Starbucks coffee in the hotel. The walkway from the hotel led directly to the mall and made it super convenient so that we didn’t have to go outside. Only downfall is the pool and hot tub were small and looked outdated. Also, hot tub needed a good clean. Overall, a great place to stay in Ottawa.

Wonderful hotel and amazing staff. Downside is parking. Not much parking closed to entrance underground had to walk a while with luggage and kids. No in and out privileges. Checked in brought kids and luggage to my room went down to grab rest of things and i had already gotten a ticket. You pretty much have to pay as soon as you get there but with people with lots of lugging and kids its impossible. I was given an extremely unfair amount of time to pay for my parking. They need a better parking system.for guests

Best location in the city. Great gym, nice looking pool (didn’t use it). Friendly staff. Best hotel bar/restaurant. Downside. No plugs near bed or really anywhere except at the desk and they were not tight so my cords were falling out. Bathroom plugs also loose.

Amazing location, steps to the canal, we have been visiting Ottawa for annual skating for over 15 years, staying in downtown, first time to this hotel and it was by far the best place!!!! Path though to the mall, great hotel amenities, pool, hot tub, sauna. The breakfast was amazing (pics are attached) and the view from the room showed the canal. Highly recommend, nothing beats this place!

Our room was definitely NOT what you’d expect from a Marriott property! Room was stale, smelled of cigarette smoke, bedspread was stained as was a chair in the room. When we complained to the service team we were asked to “post the complaint on social media and perhaps they’d get the resources to fix it”. Not a good experience.

The only downfall was the room was only cleaned upon arriving. The cleaner knocked on our door some time after lunch to replace towels. We had to ask to have the trash removed (ie: dirty diapers). The bathroom sink wasn’t wiped down- we had to wipe ourselves afterwards. We had hoped the beds could be made. The worst part was 3 different doorsteps in our hallway had leftover trays and trash from the morning still sitting there by end of day. We were perplexed how the cleaner walked by without picking it up. It sat there all morning, all afternoon, all evening. The hotel is more like a 3 star hotel. On a positive the front desk staff are welcoming and friendly.

The facility is beautiful The safety elevators were great. The only concern I have is that we asked to have our room cleaned and it never did and we were there for three days so it was a little disappointing, but the bed was comfortable and the staff was very friendly

Our first room smelled horrendously of overpowering body odour - and the masking agent someone came to spray made no difference. The shower caulking was covered in black mould. We were moved to another room, which was cleaner but also smelled very bad. The cupboard doors were badly damaged. There are very few electrical outlets and only one of us could charge our phones at the bedside via the clock radio. The neighbourhood is a heartbreaking morass of the extremely marginalized and felt unsafe by early evening. Paying for parking via an app that required a precise time of departure was an unnecessary irritation and the confusion at the elevators due to new e-pads instead of buttons was inefficient. Sometimes new tech isn't better. This has always been our favourite Ottawa hotel but was terribly disappointing.

While I am a Marriott Bonvoy member and have had several pleasant stays at the Westin Ottawa over the years, we were very disappointed in our stay in January 2025, especially after having paid over $400 for the room. These were the issues: - Shower did not drain - about 2 inches of water remained after shower - Bed sheets were not tucked in and would uncomfortably bunch up - Only 2 coffee creamers (we did get more when we asked) - No plug-ins at bedside tables (plug was behind headboard) - 3 plug-ins on the desk are loose and a fire hazard! - TV reception was poor and blacking out - Toilet paper holder location is very awkwardly behind/beside the toilet - Only one robe and one set of slippers in closet - Pillows were very soft and uncomfortable with no other options provided - No Kleenex refill box - blue sheets were already showing when we arrived - it had been my understanding that I had booked a room with a view of the canal/Parliament where I have been several times before when booking a premium room, but we were on the other side of the hotel, and were advised we would have to pay even more money to upgrade to such a room.

The television didn’t work, nor did the phone to call the reception, and the bed was uncomfortable. At the reception Me: I have a reservation Her: Under what name? Me: Stephane Bastien Her: I’m sorry, I don’t speak French I tell her my name and she says she doesn’t speak French. I said my name with an English accent. LOL

Room - noice level was too high for a comfortable rest. It sounded like the floors were being scraped every few minutes u til about midnight and than that started again bt 6:30am. Also, early this knowing I was woken up by a loud beeping sound….unclear where it was coming from but it was outside do the room.

Great location, but the two rooms we booked (on 10th floor) smelled like strong body odour, despite running the AC, opening the window and having housekeeping spray the carpets. Rooms looking tired. Broken lamp meant the room seemed dark. Excellent location and view.

Overall very good and we were upgraded to a suite. Smooth check in, clean, nice courtesy desert plate for celebrating a birthday. Excellent view of downtown Ottawa. Thin walls and ceiling will make sleeping tough in neighbours are noisy. Our package included breakfast and the restaurant gave me the voucher. They confirmed I could order through room service and pay with the voucher. I placed the order then got a call back saying we could not do this. Management eventually sorted it, and made the meal complimentary. Food quality was average. Overall good service and would stay again. Parking is steep at $30 for overnight.

The staff at the Westin Ottawa were amazing and truly understand customer service. We had reserved 3 rooms for our family, and they not only ensured we were together but gave us all rooms with an incredible view of downtown Ottawa at no extra charge. We had an issue with the toilet and they responded to it immediately. It meant we had to change rooms. They moved all three rooms and once again made sure all of us were together. We also had a problem with the parking, which isn’t controlled by them, but for our trouble they comped us all a free breakfast! The front desk, the staff at the restaurant and the housekeeper were so hospitable. The rooms were clean and very comfortable. We will definitely return!

Check in was the very worst in my many years of staying at Westins all over the globe - the person was extremely rude and left us standing at the counter for 20m while she clearly went on break (took her water bottle with her when she had to check something in the back)

Access to the underground parking was blocked off due to a protest but there was no notice provided from the hotel that we would have to seek parking elsewhere. Check in was at 1500, we arrived at 1600 and one of our rooms wasn’t ready yet. We requested adjoining rooms and were told our rooms were adjoining but when we went up that was not the case. The rooms themselves were clean, the beds comfortable and the front desk staff were polite and courteous

I felt like the staff was very unprofessional and not friendly at all. The lady the checkin desk and the manager on evening/night shift was very disrespectful. But that’s okay, I won’t be coming back there. They overcharged my card too and yet I got a refund. I see they took some charges off my card after I had gotten a refund. I was just over them so I let it go. I won’t be coming back there.

Direct access to Rideau Center via third floor is a real winner. Also, within walking distance of all main attractions, museums and market. Views on the town center or the river are spectacular. The only drawback is the huge number of homeless people and small drug dealers in the surrounding streets. Problem more acute at nightfall. Police patrols on site, but still.

Great hotel. First rate valet service. Incredible restaurant in the hotel. Best location. Attached to the Rideau Centre so you have unlimited shopping options. Next to the market so incredible dining options. Amazing staff. Not sure why you would stay anywhere other than the Westin Ottawa.

It’s right downtown and has the Rideau Centre mall right next to it and the Byward Market is also right there! Many attractions within walking distance such as Parliament Hill and The National War Memorial!

The area just around corner of hotel was deplorable. Druggies and Beggers sleeping on sidewalk and stinking the area up in General. Streets filled with trash.

The room was nice, comfortable bed, however for the price that we paid, I would have preferred an unobstructed view of the parliament and chateau Laurier. Also, the air conditioner unit was humming that was a bit inconvenience. The food at Dalys in the hotel was wonderful. Great breakfast and excellent service from Christian - italien extraordinaire!

The Westin’s Shore Club restaurant provided exceptional food and service as well as an intimate romantic atmosphere. Our waiter, Connor was both professional and very personable. The Westin hotel in Ottawa was where we held our wonderful wedding reception forty years ago and I must say that the hotel and the restaurant are still great and in fact, better than ever. Well done!

Everything from check in to check out was pleasant and professional. Breakfasts at Daly’s were generous and tasty. The Shore Club dinner was a treat. Having the Rideau Centre shopping mall attached was very convenient. Valet parking made arriving and leaving throughout our stay very easy. We’ll definitely be back

Direct access to Rideau Centre from hotel was great during cold February stay allowed family to enjoy shopping mall coat free directly from hotel. Breakfast Buffet was great too, good quality lots of choice’s. Proximity to the frozen canal skating and affordable skate rentals from hotel were great convenience.
