Lake Yellowstone Hotel and Cabins

We were surprised to find there was no internet or tv in the cabins. The hotel was under renovations.

Too much money for a room with no tv, no WiFi, no refrigerator, no a/c. In-house restaurant was booked for the next two days.

No wifi. No elevator. No air conditioning. No other dining options. Rooms are smaller than in pictures. Better to stay outside the park and just drive to your destination. Dining staff were very friendly but others are not.

We checked in the second week of September. We were not told the hotel and dining services would be closed down. Our closest option to eat was at the neighboring lodge which was poor cafeteria style food. Also, there was NO wifi and cell reception was nill. The room available was a basic cabin. There are no signs to be able to find the place. We drove 45 minutes beyond before we found anyone who could tell us where it was since our phones couldn't direct us. Very disappointed.

It was all wonderful, but keep in mind there is no wifi, so prepare mentally. There are also no elevators or AC. We had a fabulous trip and enjoyed every minute of it. Disconnect and enjoy.

Cabins are old and are adjoining with another. Luckily the bathrooms are attached. You can hear the shower running toilet flushing and even phone ringing in attached cabin. No food onsite as kitchen is being remodeled so only other option is Yellowstone Lake lodge. Awful food you order at a kiosk and it takes them 30 minutes to serve it to you 4. They are lucky there is no other option. We left hungry in the morning and drove out of the park to eat

Beautiful hotel in the park. Wish we had access to WiFi. It was only available in the check in area of the lodge.

I couldn't check my reservation because there was no Internet service worth anything (note to self: carry offline reservation info for offline hotels...) but I checked later and the room we booked was "basic room" with "two queen beds." This clearly implies an in-hotel room, asking with a picture of a room. Instead, we were given a cabin. A cabin would be advertised as a cabin. I know, I've reserved and stayed in cabins through Hotels.com before. Since I didn't have my reservation and we made it 7 months ago, so the details were fuzzy, we just went with it. There was no air conditioning, just heat (but thankfully cool at night in May, so open windows helped), no phone to call in that there was no shampoo or body wash in the dispenser (but there was conditioner!) and the floors were filthy. We used the included broom and used shower towels to hello keep things clean and out of the _full size_ beds. It didn't matter anyway, because it turns out Xanterra doesn't open the hotel portion until late June, so it turns out they're falsely advertising rooms when they're not offering them. The staff seemed to brush my wife off when she complained. A neighboring unit's occupants were clearly also frustrated with the bait and switch and sped off to complain. Honestly I can't say I'm surprised given my other experiences with Xanterra, but it is HIGHLY disappointing.

Room was filthy and had a sketchy aroma. Furniture was old, undusted, there was grime everywhere in the bathroom, as well as debris and medical pills on the floor. Staff was rude and curt. Options for cheaper food were limited because general store was closed. No TV, no WIFI, no fridge, no microwave, and this was a DELUXE room. I would have been better off camping in the woods, it would have been cleaner with more amenities!

This property is overpriced. I realize it is inside the park, and that was convenient, but it is ridiculously overpriced for what it offers. The room was just ok at best. Restaurant was impossible to get same day reservation for dinner. Did have breakfast there. Buffet was the only option, which I dislike a lot because I simply cannot eat enough to justify the buffet price, and the options on the buffet were not great. My biggest complaint was the broken and filthy toilet seat. I definitely would not recommend this place or stay there again, in spite of the convenience.

Our room and bathroom were very clean, except for the large wood framework around the bathroom mirror. It looked like it hadn’t been wiped down in months and was disgusting to look at, a lot of toothpaste and soap spatter etc. Even though everything else was very clean. Neither Hotels.com nor Yellowstone Lake Hotel mentioned that dinner reservations needed to be made MONTHS in advance. We could not get a single dinner reservation at the hotel. Luckily we were able to buy breakfast at the hotel. The Breakfast buffet was good. Except for the “table boss” who made the host, march us, his customers, back out to her counter to ask HER if we could have an available table by a window. Then she was sarcastic about it. We watched her do it to everyone who asked. It was weird and ridiculous. We heard from other customers the dinners were overpriced and not great. So maybe we were spared that disappointment. We were able to dine at Yellowstone lodge 2 minutes drive away, no reservations required. Burger&fries place.

Room was dirty, cobwebs behind bathroom door and on ceiling. Huge dust ball under bedside table. Went to front desk to cancel our second night and the young lady said we could not. Bartenders were slow for service. Food options at the lodge were minimal due to end of season.

The property is gorgeous. The room was in need of a deep clean. Room mirror was dirty. The shower tub was gross with soap scum and a moldy shower curtain. The bed did not have a fitted sheet or a bed pad. The food was disgusting, McDonalds would be considered a 5 star compared to this. For the price you pay it could and should be better. Staff was friendly and knowledgeable.

Stained towels. Stains in bath tub. Black mold on shower curtain. Spiders in room. Rude staff. Over priced.

Cabins were clean and comfortable. Grounds and staff were amazing

Beautiful views, friendly staff, and quick easy check in. The cabins were not clean. Floor/rug had rocks, dirt and debris on them like they hadn’t been vacuumed. Cold bring an extra blanket. Shower was out of shampoo, conditioner and body wash.

Overall the stay was decent. No AC and the windows barely opened so it was a little hot and stuffy. It was also pretty expensive overall.

What a gorgeous property! We had a second floor lake view room, but that was partially obstructed by the portico below. (Get a higher up room if you want a better biew.) The room was clean and beautiful. No AC, but once we got the fan working (one outlet wasn’t working) it was less stuffy.

Convenient within the park. We stayed in cabins. The shower stalls are cramped for adults but otherwise cabins were adequate.

We got booked into the cabins which are cute but really need updating. Also needed a more thorough cleaning. Restaurants were just ok.

The place was decent but no AC or fan in the room. Window only opened 2 inches so it was really stuffy and uncomfortable. Dining is not great. Must have reservations and no priority given to guests. Save your money and stay at the Old Faithful inn. $600 wasted.

Definitely an old hotel. Room was small. Lake view wasn’t worth the price. Mice scratching inside the walls!

Very outdated property. No TV, no WIFI, no fridge, no microwave still one night for $500. Total cabin sq ft cud be 200 sq ft. If guy/gal is very big then probably he/she has to take shower in the lake as he/she might not fit in the standing shower. Some other hotels shld build properties in this area else there is no choice but book here.

Upon checking in, we called for dinner reservations and found out they had no availability. So we ate out of the vending machine. Lake view room was a joke, as we had a deck railing and bannister to look through for a peekaboo view.

Everything went well. We were especially impressed by the renovations which gave us a modern room with a classic feel.

We stayed in the Sandpiper Lodge. The hotel is great. I would have liked to have stay there but there were no rooms available. The lodge is old. Rooms look like they are in severe need of upgrading. Everything is old and worn and in dire need of cleaning. We weren’t comfortable and slept poorly most nights. Bed was truly uncomfortable with not even a mattress cover over an old mattress. Not pleased. We tried our best but ended up leaving before our stay was up. The manager Ayla was easy to deal with on this matter and compensated us appropriately and was just truly one of the most understanding and caring people we have encountered. A+ service.

The receiption staffs were very cold when we went to check in & check out. The service was not even close to OKAY. Will never recommend this cabin to anyone!

Room was not ready at check in time(4pm). Came back an hour later and was still not ready. Once we finally got in our room, coffee mugs were dirty, coffee stains in mug and lipstick marks. Tried to call front desk but phone did not work. Went down to front desk and hotel manager berated housekeeper in front of guest in lobby. She would also continuously cut my wife off from explaining issues we were dealing with. Just a horrible experience

The Lake Yellowstone Hotel is incredibly convenient as a pick-up location for the fabulous park-run guided tours of Yellowstone and a central place from which to drive around the incredible park. Some hotel staff were stellar and others seemed like they did not want to be there, but we were there toward the end of the what I am sure is ab exhausting season. Our shower curtain was not what I would call clean nor were the baseboards in the bathroom. I did not realize dinner reservations should be made 60 days in advance - so now readers know - make dinner reservations WAY in advance. There are not a lot of food options - but the kitchen also needs to serve an unbelievable number of people. We absolutely would stay here again for the incredible convenience and the staff members who did go out of their way to be nice. Yellowstone National Park is beyond compare for the wildlife and thermal geology! Staying in the park can really make your time there much more enjoyable!! Book the National Park guided tours - they are amazing!!! We took two and they were worth every penny and every minute of our time! We were picked up right at the hotel!

Not what we expected, dining facility was under construction and put us in a non view room during the slow season - wouldn’t recommend this to anyone for the amount of money spent.. Staff was non welcoming - seemed like the same old grind kind of day for staff

Amazing staff that are loaded with knowledge about the area. The wonderful staff member that helped us check in showed us on a map where to see all the bears, elk, wolves, mountain goats, and Bald Eagles. Literally every spot she shared with us was spot on ! Aside from that, the views are incredible and the hotel has a very fascinating story!

Staff was wonderful! Very helpful and efficient! My only recommendation: when a patron requests a simple cup of coffee after paying for breakfast, exiting the dining room, then making the request only to be told that only those in the dining room could get it, was very off putting and not customer service oriented. The carafes outside the dining room had already been cleared so a simple request was not a big deal. Given the price we paid for three days accommodations with breakfast every day, I would expect better.

The hotel staff were extremely friendly and helpful. I had a situation where I needed to make a call and my cellphone was not working, so the woman at the desk just handed me her landline phone to make the call. Staff also escorted me to and from the EV charger in the employee quarters. They exceeded my expectations.

We booked this hotel for our trip to Yellowstone largely because of the central location in the park. It did not disappoint from that standpoint. The cons: The Sandpiper Lodge where we stayed was noisy with slamming doors, thin walls, and loud guests. I could hear the guy in the next room snoring! Our room had dusty carpet around and under the furniture. Dining options are limited, and the “deli” was awful. Our sandwiches had hard dry bread. Lettuce and tomato for your sandwich is handed to you in a zip-top bag. The menu was limited. The staff was not as friendly as I would have liked. Many were too busy talking with other staff to take care of the guests. The pros: The lobby was gorgeous with a fantastic view of Yellowstone Lake from multiple comfortable chairs. The beds are very comfortable. The dining room service and meals were delicious. We were lucky enough to get a convenient reservation for dinner. The bar service was slow, but the cocktails were well made. BE AWARE: This hotel has no AC, no TV, no radio, no cell service, and no WiFi. You are forced to disconnect. If you need/want to check email and other on-line sites, you need to go to The Lodge down the road. They have WiFi in their lobby. All in all, I loved Yellowstone. The park is amazing. I would choose a different place to stay if I were to vacation there again.

Arrived in the Lobby and waited close to 10 minutes to be addressed. There were 3 agents who wouldnt even make eye contact after they were freed up. It looked like they were very uncomfortable dealing with BROWN people. Eventually, when it looke like they had no other choice but to check us in, we were summoned to the front desk. Not one time during the 3-4 minute check in process

The location is incomparable. It snowed in late June, so we got to see Yellowstone as it is in both winter and summer in the same trip. Magical. Snow covered mountains in June, visible across the lake, were awesome. Too cold for a boat ride. We liked our cabin. Quiet, comfortable, safe. One beautiful elk was ever present on the property. Unfortunately, the main hotel was not yet open, so the restaurant was not open either. That was disappointing. The cafeteria-style dining at a nearby lodge was not great. The hotel staff was courteous and accommodating. The lack of WiFi, while it could be considered a plus while on vacation, was actually a liability for us. They need to vacuum and clean better behind the headboards of the beds (very dusty).

Convenient and quiet

Customer service was not good. Girl at phone desk was a smart mouth. We had a hard time finding the hotel. No sign on main road, the only sign we say was "Lake Area"! Does that mean hotel or the view or fishing or boating or what. There was no sign that actually said "Hotel" until you got off the road at the sign that said "Lake Are". Even the girl at phone didn't tell us!

Lake Yellowstone is great for focusing on nature and limiting technology. It should be noted there is no WiFi and service is very poor in the room which can make planning excursions or gps navigation difficult. You also have to make a reservation if you want to eat at the hotel restaurant. Overall, the hotel was beautiful and wildlife was outside every day!

The location is fantastic! You are right by the serene beauty of Lake Yellowstone. It is conveniently close to the Fishing Bridge area and East entrance.

Limited dining options due to the time of year - first week of October.

It was a very busy time and not a lot of food choices and availability for the main restaurant without a reservation

Very disappointed in our room. For the price, it was super small, no tv and shower similar to a YMCA. I understand the luxury of staying in the park, and for that we loved it. But really NOT worth the price. Will have to reconsider if we return. Our dinner was far below expectation. Hostess was unfriendly when we made reservation. Only time available was 9:30. Lots of empty tables when we arrived at 8:45. Elk ravioli, non descript and dry; disappointing. Way overpriced.

The hotel restaurant was closed. Although the Lake Lodge restaurant is nearby, the menu selection is quite limited. Since there isn’t really any other place to go nearby, this was a bit frustrating.

Not Worth It – Room Too Small and Poor Amenities The room was much smaller than those in similar hotels and the price was double. The sink was oddly placed in the middle of the room instead of in the bathroom, which was inconvenient. The main restaurant was closed, and the main building was under maintenance—none of which was disclosed during the reservation process. Internet access was only available in the Lake Lodge, and the connection quality was very poor.

Location on lake great but, I expected the restaurant to be average based on reviews, but sadly it was worse than that. There has no priority booking for guests so we arrived at midday and could not get a table for dinner. The best suggestion staff had for somewhere to eat was a self service canteen a small drive away. This place was awful. Burgers out of tin foil with plastic cutlery. Bear in mind we had booked a deluxe room at the hotel and gone out of our way to stay here as it sells itself as a premier location in the park and it’s not cheap. The cheaper log cabins that surround the main hotel look like a trailer park. There are loads of them, and the hotel cannot cater for the volume of people and there aren’t any other places to eat around. After eating in the awful self service canteen up the road we returned to the hotel for a drink and to enjoy the view. We stopped for one drink and went to bed. Sparkling wine and beer were served Luke warm in cheap glasses that are one step better than plastic and not clean. Sparkling wine served in a normal wine glass. In our room there is no wifi, no TV, and toothpaste spit on bathroom mirrors from many previous guests… this was a deluxe room in main hotel. Some parts of the hotel were clean and quality but the rest is a huge disappointment. It’s being run as a motel pretending to be a hotel. Any complaints bounce off staff who obviously here it all the time and do nothing about it.
