Hydro Hotel

Very nice hotel. Easy walking distance to the centre. Lots of parking including a fast charger for the electric so could quickly recharge battery within an hour and a bit, meaning it’s available most the time.

Lovely hotel with beautiful grounds and private pool. Breakfast was fantastic.

We enjoyed our stay, nice comfortable room, excellent breakfast, heated out door pool.

There is something of a refined charm about the Hydro. All the guests behave nicely and yet it is not over formal. The sea views from the rooms that have them (I have stayed twice) are gorgeous, across the hotel's lovely garden you can see the start of the climb up to Beachy Head framed by sea and sky. The sheltered pool area is a real sun trap and a real selling point. The lounges and public areas are elegant and comfortable. All in all a great place for a little more civilised break in Eastbourne.

Beautiful stay in a lovely hotel, room was good but extremely hot and didn’t really cool down. Gardens are beautiful, swimming pool cold but to be expected in April. Overall a good stay.

This was like stepping back in time and I loved it. My daughter in law and I shared a twin room with a sea view and were very happy with the selection of hot drinks, biscuits and water provided everyday - and we had a ‘fridge! Breakfast was served on tables set with white tablecloths, the staff were lovely, the lift quirky - and I need another stay soon. There is a small carpark for the hotel at the rear but not a pleasant walk in the dark in the rain, however roadside parking is usually available, but might prove a little difficult in the summer months!

The downstairs of the hotel was pleasant and comfortable. However, our side seaview bedroom was small and extremely tired. It badly needed updating and a general facelift. The bathroom was even more tired with paint chipping on the bottom of the door and the whole suite needs replacing. The furnishings were cheap and tacky, eg 2 vinyl chairs. Also, the bare basics were provided in the bathroom, no shower hats even, let alone bathrobes. It is a nuisance to have to bring our own. The bed was small for a hotel these days, certainly not queen size, small double at best, mattress was good though. Staff were ok but seemed not all that well trained. We only had sandwiches in the evening so can't comment on the food in general. Breakfast was adequate. We are quite surprised that there seem to be a number of positive reviews, but it is possible that some of the rooms have been upgraded. The room was stuffy, no air con, fan provided in the wardrobe. The car park is very small and hotel guests are not able to reserve a space. That was stressful on arrival and reception staff were unhelpful and uncaring. We had to park on the street but were able to find a space in the car park after an hour or so when lunchtime patrons left. The main negative aspect to our stay, however, was the poor condition of the room and bathroom. Also, basic amenities such as shower caps really should be provided.

Grand old hotel - with great service, good room and decent breakfast. Only let itself down due to very noisy wedding party on Sunday night, with screaming kids outside on the croquet lawn. Oh and outdoor heated swimming pool although only small is a nice bonus.

This is my second time this year. In both occasions the TV needed tuning! This time the shower lacked power. Just a trickle! 😞 The service at breakfast was superb

The Hydro has bags of character in the public rooms. The receptionist was dealing with another customer when I arrived but I waited 10 minutes before being acknowledged and the other customer wasn't spoken to during that time, which I thought was odd. The bedrooms are nice but the bathroom in our room was reminiscent of the 1970s with a poor shower over the bath. Breakfast service was great. The Asian head waiter was very efficient and the staff were helpful and friendly. The tea room staff on the other hand were super slow in taking and delivering our order. Overall a not unpleasant experience.

Staff friendly and helpful. Hot breakfast very tasty. There was also plenty to choose from from the cold table including juices, cereals, fruit, cold meat and rolls. When we stayed the weather was really sunny which made our room really hot. A fan was provided but the room was still really hot during the night as the windows could only be only opened slightly so that the birds did not come into the room.

Beautiful room, spotlessly clean. Great location, easy walk into Eastbourne. Fabulous breakfast, continental and cooked breakfast freshly made to order.

Prompt check in a nice clean room

I stayed overnight with my son as we love The Hydro. We had dinner in The Crystal Restaurant which was very nice but I think I should have chosen something different as my steak was a bit thin and fatty. The rest of the meal was nice and perhaps I was just unlucky with the steak. My son had the rump steak (rare) and he said it was delicious. The beds were very comfortable and the views from our room were lovely. Breakfast was very good and staff very attentive. Hope to come back soon and will definitely choose a front sea view room, as it is well worth the extra money. I would just add though that the shower pressure in our room was not brilliant so the bath was probably the best option in that particular room. I think there are other rooms though that have stand alone showers and which are probably a bit more effective. Wouldn’t put me off coming again though as the ambience and general feel of the hotel is lovely.

Good hotel away from the town centre with easy access to the beach front. We stayed in Room 220 - was a furnace even when day temperature was 20 degrees. That room must be avoided.

Our first visit to this hotel, but hopefully not our last! The hotel oozes old-time elegance and service. We had a sea view room, and had a stunning view of the sunrise each morning. We were travelling with our dog, so were unable to visit the restaurant, but were able to order from the restaurant menu to be delivered to our room, for both dinner and breakfast. The bed was so comfortable! With the exception of the lady who checked us in (who rushed and was very abrupt), the staff were warm and friendly, and very helpful. The bathroom was very tight for size, but not a lot that can be done about that. Parking was easy on the road outside the front door, so we didn't investigate the car park. I would stay here again without hesitation when in Eastbourne!

The staff were lovely with excellent service. The rooms were comfortable with good quality facilities. Breakfast was very good. The hotel was fairly quiet but you could hear people talking in the room above. It might have been a problem if they had put a loud TV on, but fortunately they did not.

A large Victorian hotel. Bedroom decor was modern and fresh. Breakfast was good but service was a bit slower than we would have liked. We did not use the restaurant otherwise on this occasion. A gym would be a good addition to facilities.

The food at breakfast and dinner were delicious and served on hot plates. There was plenty of choice, something for everyone. We had lunch in the lounge area and again, the food was excellent. All the staff were very friendly and helpful!

We have stayed here before but this was just an overnight due to family business. The staff are unfailing helpful and courteous. The property itself shows its age but that is part of its charm.

Lovely hotel in a good position on the outskirts of Eastbourne , walking distance from the lovely village of Mead. Where there are shops and two pub/ restaurants. We found the staff to be both helpful and charming . Many thanks for an enjoyable stay .

We were there to walk 7 sisters and hotel conveniently situated. Public rooms were very large and pleasant. Breakfast was adequate and serving staff excellent. Couldn't reserve car parking but managed to find space on arrival and plenty of free street parking available. Bedroom/bathroom was a bit tired but adequate. Had dinner in the hotel one night, plenty of choice and service good.

Just a short walk from a beautiful beach

Solid choice for Eastbourne. Location is up a hill but easy to use the 720 taxi app to book £5 trips to the pier.

I only stayed one night as I was seeing OMD at Winter Gardens. It’s a lovely big hotel, old but nicely decorated and maintained. I had a single room with a sea view. Hotel entrance is very nice with big high ceilings, would have stayed longer but had to get back to work.

Relaxing and elegant, beautifully situated near beachy head, east end of the S. Down Way.

The hotel setting was superb. We had a sea view and it was very convenient for walking into the town. It was spotlessly clean and the staff were friendly.

I really enjoyed my stay at The Hydro as the room was very comfortable. Breakfast was included with good food and service. All together this hotel is a real gem, offering excellent service, location and decor.

The beds were very comfortable and the views from our room were lovely. Breakfast was very good and staff very attentive. Hope to come back soon and will definitely choose a front sea view room, as it is well worth the extra money. I would just add though that the shower pressure in our room was not brilliant so the bath was probably the best option in that particular room. Our 6th time at this hotel. We love it for a night away plus Dinner in the Crystal Restaurant as the food & service is also very good. Superb breakfast served, lots of choice.
