The Ocean Hotel in Canmore is situated in a beautiful area, but unfortunately, the overall experience did not live up to the premium price tag of $530 CAD per night. For that amount, you would expect basic perks, but keep in mind that neither breakfast nor parking is included, so you need to factor those extra costs into your budget. The check-in process was thorough but felt unnecessarily long and redundant. The staff was attentive, but having to sign physical paperwork, provide extra data, and then complete a separate check-in on a tablet felt like a bit too much administrative work after a long journey. As for the room, it was on the smaller side and has a more traditional, older layout that could benefit from a modern refresh. There was a slight, musty room odor upon arrival, and the vintage heating unit only partially worked, making it a bit tricky to keep the entire space at a consistent, cozy temperature. While the surrounding scenery is stunning, the hotel itself feels more like a budget accommodation with a luxury price tag. If you can find a good deal, it might be worth a look, but at full price, you might want to explore other options in Canmore first.
