Occidental Nuevo Vallarta - All Inclusive

This is a smaller all inclusive, no swim up bar and limited activities however, the service was fantastic and the hotel was in reasonably good condition. Food is average for a 4 star in Mexico, I would caution teens will be looking for more activities than can be found here, great place for couples.

Great place! Food and drinks were good! It was and clean and staff was nice. Wish there were more than two pools as one charges extra to access it

A pleasant stay. The only complaint is the volume level of the music at the pool. Since there is only one pool it is a shame that one is forced to listen to music at quite high volume for most of the day. I had no issue with the music during events (such as aerobics) but the rest of the time it would have been nice to be able to relax with one's personal choice of headphone music or quiet.

The restaurants and food and service was amazing. We had no options to eat by the pool and had to be covered to enter a restaurant. But We ate well and had a variety to choose from. The downside to the resort is no swim up bar or hot tub. Bars were limited after 7 pm. Very little shade. The spa was amazing. It’s an older resort and our room had a leak, but life happens and the staff was great to fix it right away. I liked their system for pool towels. Bathrooms were plenty and close by.

The hotel is nice, however, the pictures and info can be misleading. Guests do not have access to all pools shown on the pictures, some are only accessible to Royal members. As a result there are tourists waiting at 8am to claim chaise-longues as they are not enough. In terms of food, there are two buffet style restaurants. They are ok, but offer pretty much the same thing for lunch and dinner. So it can get really boring. The other restaurants are reservation-only and again, there is a long line of tourists waiting in the morning for reservations. Otherwise, our room was very nice, staff is super friendly and helpful, the surrounding beach is beautiful. I enjoyed the yoga and zumba classes in the mornings and my teenage daughters liked the beach volley ball.

No hot tub for the general public

Nice property and clean. Food was really good - especially Mexican night at the buffet. Pool was small and a lot of seat hoggers will come down at 6am to put their towels and take up the seats by the pool all day and leave for hours at a time. Other than that everything was great

I have stayed at Occidental two or three times now and it has always been good, except this time there weren’t enough lounge chairs. People take the beach towels to their room and then come out at seven in the morning and reserve all the chairs so there’s nothing available when you show up at eight.

The entire resort smelled like feces the whole time we were there Worst vacation ever

The rooom they tried to put us in had a heavy musty smell. We asked to me moved, they did move us, but at various intervals during our stay our room filled with the unmistakable sewer smell. Also the streaming channels on our tv didn’t work for 6 days during our stay.

Staff was amazing and the housekeepers and the ground facility people were amazing as well . Resort was so clean and will be back to stay again .

When I arrived at the resort and was assigned my room #439. It smelt like mold, the AC unit was to loud sounded like a jet engine, their was hair on the mirror, rusty hinges on the shower door, dirt marks on the walls and god knows what was on those lamp shades that smelt like death. I left the room after 2 minutes of taking pictures and went down to reception to show them what I discovered and ask them if this is normal for this resort because this was my first time visiting Mexico. The man at reception then had an aggressive conversation with his lady co-worker in Spanish in front of me and upset with her.He then said they would assign me a new room and he would personally go check on it to make sure it’s been cleaned. He arrived back 15 minutes later and had me redo my door bracelet for room #417. I thanked him and proceeded to my new hoping for the best. Once again when I entered there was the musky smell of mould and the aggressive roar of an obviously un serviced AC unit. As I entered the room to look around the first thing I noticed was a short and curly hair sitting in the middle of the little table in front of the window, not a good second impression. I turned around to look at the bed and it was not tucked in like you would expect at a hotel. I lifted the covers to discover 6-7 yellow droplet stains right where I would be sleeping on the bottom sheet. I spent my 1 week vacation sleeping on towels after that. Shower leaks into main bed area ( yup that’ll cause mould)

Las instalaciones se ven descuidadas, sobre todo en el cuarto, la puerta del baño no cierra bien, la secadora de pelo no sirve, la puerta del clóset está muy dura y los cajones están todos descuadrados, no cierran bien. La limpieza deja mucho que desear, se notaba que no barrían, ni trapeaban, solo limpian el baño y cambian las sábanas, aunque un día, no me pusieron sábana en la cama, solo la colcha y un cobertor. Hay hoteles con menor precio y mejor limpieza e instalaciones. Ponen café en el cuarto pero sin cubiertos, en el área de la playa solo se pueden usar los camastros normales, los otros con cortina sin uso exclusivo VIP. Hay 3 albercas y solo se usa 1, la otra es uso exclusivo con membresía y la otra es chapoteadero muy pequeñita.

Our room was smelling like sewer. We told the front desk staff and nothing was done. Had to ask again. They changed our room but we had to sit in the lobby for 3 hours for a new room. The food choices are limited. The buffet has same item for bfast and lunch everyday.

Very happy that I chose this hotel. Food was great. Loved the pool and beach. Even though people always save sun chairs, we were always able to find some. Never had to wait in line for anything.Staff is lovely. Really enjoyed the Zumba class and games. The only issue I found was that room needs a bit of a refresh – it was falling apart. The tap on the sink was moving, the drawer was broken. But other than that, no complaints.

- Extremely thin walls. It genuinely feels like people are talking inside your room when they’re just in the hallway. - No balconies. A bit disappointing, especially for an ocean-view room. - Very thin bedding. The beds only had one thin blanket, and we were freezing at night even with the AC turned completely off. - Blended drinks are not well blended. Expect chunky, icy frozen drinks. - Towel situation was frustrating. I asked for towels at 10 AM, and the staff member at the desk simply said she didn’t have any—then ignored me completely. Hard to enjoy a beach resort without towels. - Food quality was inconsistent. The first few days were exceptionally bad, though it did improve later in the stay. - Italian restaurant was a letdown. The food was basically the same as the buffet pasta. - The shower was genuinely dangerous. The water temperature would swing from freezing cold to scalding hot every 30 seconds. Washing your face felt like a risky game of roulette. - Beach area overwhelmed by smokers. It was hard to enjoy the ocean breeze with so much cigarette smoke. - All-inclusive… sort of. You only get one reservation per three-night stay at any restaurant besides the buffet, and the only times available (even when we booked at check-in) were 9:30 PM.

This stay was above average. The people were great. Food was great overall. However, I booked a King bed ocean view balcony. They did not have that room available. Seems that taking a reservation is easily done but holding the reservation is not quite as easy. We were informed that we were upgraded to the Royal Club. But were we? No, just a room that was considered Royal with none of the perks. End of the world? No. But being as a mistake was made on their end, I found this to be pretty cheap. Smoking was allowed on the balconies. This was brutal, as the woman next to us smoked like she was in a 1950s detective movie. It detracted from the enjoyment of said balcony. Julio, let me tell ya this guy was the best. Kind, fun, and proficient...sit in his section poolside. Japanese place was awesome. Italian place less than stellar. Buffet was good. Beach and ocean swimming were great, thoroughly enjoyed! Was a good stay, even though there were a few hiccups.

Hard to sleep at nights because of the lobby noise even i was at the 5th floor.i asked to switch rooms but the were asking for extra money my room had cockroaches. Power outages one day power was out for long from 1pm until 8:30am there was no Ac it was so hot. Hard to communicate very few staff speaks english, but they were nice. Resort was full of local people.They were nice but again hard to communicate. Front desk were staff were not helpful enough. Three days stay one good restaurants.They allowed which we didn't know otherwise, I wouldn't book. Got stuck in the elevator for good, 5 minutes with no help at the end i pull the door to open my self. Never want to go back wasted money

Pros Centrally located, small, quiet resort. AC was quiet and efficient. Buffet always had something good, loved the meat carving station. Nightly entertainment and lobby bar music. Cons Most rooms lack balconies, paid extra for ocean view but not worth it. Single-pane windows = lots of heat. Floors always felt dirty. Spotty WiFi—barely enough to send messages. Only two bars, limited shaded seating. Food issues: Limited selection, no menus for specialty restaurants, only one booking per 3-night stay. The Mexican restaurant was disappointing—poor service, self-serve salads/desserts. No food from 5:30-6:30 PM, last food service at 10:30 PM. Snack bar and lunch buffet felt redundant. No takeout food allowed, minimal poolside service. Service was inconsistent—only two standout staff, others seemed disengaged. Pressured to leave Google reviews, but it didn’t improve service. Entertainment setup needs work—conflicting noise from a larger neighboring resort, music until ~11 PM, making early sleep impossible. Final Verdict: A very average resort. Many things could be done better, and I wouldn’t stay here again or recommend it without renovations and service improvements.

We had a wonderful holiday there. One thing we did not like was that smoking is allowed on balconies.

It's been a long time since we've stayed at an all-inclusive so bear that in mind. We usually stay at small hotels or apartments, but for this trip, we only had four nights and wanted to be at a nice, swimmable beach with good service and food. This place met our needs nicely. Huge, clean beach. Lots of beach chairs. Great sunset views. The food was very good, for buffet style. We only ate at the Italian and Mexican a la cartes. They were okay as a break from the buffet. The beach-side snack bar was actually our favourite as it's open-air and has a great vibe. Drinks were decent. At the lobby bar they were better and it has a nice lounge vibe. Everything was very clean but the rooms and hallways were pretty worn around the edges. Beds were very comfy. Ocean views were nice but no balconies :( Overall, a good place for a quick break.

The hotel was clean, with friendly staff and nice facilities. Overall, the stay was good, but the promised ocean view was disappointing, as from the room you could only see a small portion of the sea. Also, the VIP benefit of a bottle and chocolates was not as expected: I had to request the bottle because it was not delivered upon arrival, and when it came it was very small (200 ml). The chocolates were only delivered the day before departure. These details should be improved so that the experience matches what is advertised.

The room I received was poor. Leaking from the ceiling, the handles on the drawers were falling apart. The carpet in between the beds were dirty. It was very poorly maintained. The rooms definitely need up keeping. They did switch my room once I took video and pictures. The staff was fine but the rooms are very subpar.

We have been to a dozen all inclusive properties in Mexico. Mixed review on this one. Pros: Not too crowded. Generally older guests and some families, very little spring breakers. Not noisy. Fresh guac. and good fruits Tokyo and Mexican restaurant are good. Pickle ball court was available most of the time Right on the beach Cons: False advertising: they say there are 5 restaurants but there are really only 3. The Royal Restaurant is off limits to all inclusive guests. They also close one of the other restaurants every night to cycle it through the buffet (Le Buffet). They also tried to tell us we only get one restaurant meal for every 2 night stay. We had to argue with them on this for them to allow us to have one reservation per night. All other meals and all breakfasts are through the buffet. But the buffet was generally good. Very hard to book restaurants. You can't call for reservations. You have to visit the concierge who is often busy or isn't there. You also can't book more than 1-2 nights in advance. Also, lots of their time slots are late like 9pm for dinner. It seems like they purposely make it difficult to eat dinner at the restaurants even though when you are there they are not crowded. Same brand of wine: one red, one white in all places all week. Not so good. Gym is extremely minimal. Overall I got the impression they were constantly looking for ways to skim and cut costs.

The service at the hotel was awful. The first day we arrived, our rooms were flooded, and to get a resolution, the from desk at night took about two hours to give a partial resolution to just reassign us to another room. The same person was arranging room service and prefer to disconnect the phone, so no more callas can come in. The stuff was very rude at the restaurants and when the stations were empty, they didn't refill them. When asking for utensils, crackers or anything missing, they just said they they didn't have any more. They were very rushed and rude to take the orders (at the VIP premier restaurant and Los Olivos). The option to eat were very limited and there was a long line to eat at the buffet. Once seated, while going to grab food, they reassigned the tables to new people and just ignored the initial guest assigned to the tables. They didn't refill body wash or shampoo dispensers, the blankets weren't clean and despite of asking to replace them multiple times, those requests were ignored. We booked three rooms and the whole family came back with rash in the skin due to the dirty blankets, too. They just said that the hotel didn't have enough people to attend all guest requests. I have to mention that this is not even high season, I can't imagine how the operate during peak season. The reception person at night didn't know to handle guest issues and his only excuse was that the manager would be there in the morning. Horrible stay at this place. Horrible!

The property was okay. Room was beautiful. Property overall was beautiful and well kept. Checkin was not good. Staff not professional and had to change rooms after checkin and arguing for a different room. We had paid for upgraded room and requested a king. Somehow there wasn't a king in the whole resort.... Drinks were not serviced in mini bar unless you were there to make requests. Food was okay. Nothing great. We were told there was no availability for restaurants, but the restaurants were always empty. When we did get reservations there would be less than 5 other diners. Seems ridiculous that you couldn't get reservation. We saw some walk in without reservations, but when we tried we were told no. We know this for a fact because we had become friends with a couple on the beach that got in every night without reservation. No restaurants were open for breakfast or lunch. Buffet was only option...which was just okay. Best part of buffet was crepes every other night. Swim bar was nice, but no service to beach area only swim area. It was just 2 of us for our 22nd anniversary. It was a relaxing week, but not sure if we would go back. We would not take our family...not enough options for kids and getting reservations would be a nightmare.

We recently returned to this resort for a second stay after having a great experience the first time. Unfortunately, this visit didn’t live up to our expectations. Two of the restaurants were closed, and the overall service wasn’t as attentive. It was disappointing, especially since our first trip here was so enjoyable. Hoping these issues are addressed, as the resort does have potential.

Excellent service all areas, great food with excellent service

We did not have a good experience about our check-in services ! I had booked an ocean view room but it was not even a partial view. The process to change our room turned into a very unpleasant experience ! Long story short, we almost were going to call the Tourist Police to resolve the issue !

First time staying at Occidental Nuevo Vallarta and it was a great experience. Everyone was so nice and attentive. Francis was the one who helped me check in and she is amazing! She did all the reservations for the restaurants for me and I even got a bottle of tequila to celebrate my birthday. Thank you Occidental thank you Francis!

Property is older but well maintained. Food was good with good variety. Friendly and accommodating staff. Area outside hotel is nice, clean and walkable with a mall nearby. We enjoyed our stay.

Perfect three night stay in Nuevo Vallarta! The staff was absolutely amazing and went out of their way to ensure we enjoyed our stay. This property is small and a little older, but the room and grounds were very clean and well cared for. The beach was our favorite amenity with soft white sand and a smooth ocean floor. Would definitely recommend!

October was an excellent time to go as it was not busy. Excellent beach area with just the right amount of waves to keep you entertained. Food was good. I have been all over Mexico and this was one resort that I would go back to.

Great stay near Paradise Village. Easy walk to the marina and shopping. Food options were good, but limited.

Staff was awesome. The team by the pool was energetic. Conveniently parked near a little grocery store and shopping area.

- staff is friendly but a number of them only speak Spanish or very little English. So online translation tools are helpful. - The team work hard to keep the guests entertained. There is a show every night and all kinds of activities in the pool area. - located in a quiet and safe resort area. about 30 to 40 min car ride to reach city centre of Puerto Vallarta. a Very family oriented hotel. - Food at the buffet is decent and they put an effort to provide a variety of dishes every day. Servers are very friendly.

Upgraded nicely to a beautiful place that made us feel welcome. Relaxed, cheerful, wonderful atmosphere. Can't beat being right on the ocean and close to excursion companies like Vallarta Adventures!

Friendly and hospitable staff. Yummy buffet. Excellent nightly entertainment outside on the stage and at the lounge. Nice bedsheets.

Siempre es un gusto y placer regresar al Occidental, la comida es buena, el hotel está en perfectas condiciones. Lo unico que cambio vs otras visitas es que ya no podemos cenar durante la estancia en los restaurantes a la carta, solo te dan acceso a 1 por cada 3 noches reservadas. Todo lo demás excelente

Got a great deal on this hotel for one week at the end of August and cant reccomend it enough. First all inclusive and the food exceeded my expectations. Mexican and Italian restaurants were amazing. Place was clean, A/C worked throughout and the staff were amazing. Shout out to Ramon! Only issue was that the first day the main pool was a little dirty/foggy but water was clear the rest of the time.

Liked the hotel over all. The food was okay. Tokyo food and service was amazing and delicious and it was our favorite restaurant and the cook made it extra special for my birthday.

The property was clean and most of the staff was helpful. We were only allowed to eat in the buffet because my husband did not pack a pair of dress pants which were required which is funny because the resort as a whole is maybe a 3 star definitely not 5 star as they were trying to make it seem. The all inclusive drinks were all served in plastic cups! Beer was only on tap. Not what I’m used to from an all inclusive for sure. Definitely would not stay here again.
