The Trail Inn - Newberry, MI - Formerly Knollwood Inn - 13467 M-28

It was our first trip with our dogs. It was nice and cozy in the room and having the fridge and microwave made it nice for reheating the meals we brought. We stayed three nights and housekeeping checked on us as they walked by to make sure we didn’t need anything!

Room was clean and well designed. Wi-Fi worked flawlessly. Very nice motel. Would definitely stay here again when in the area.

Parking was very easy, right outside our door. Restaurants close by, within a mile and another in two miles. Clean room except for the japanese beetles which everyplace has right now. Breakfast would have been nice, but close restaurants.

The parking lot was very safe. You get to pull right up to your room door. The room was clean. Never seen any staff. You sign in and out with a touch screen. Wi Fi seemed to work just fine.

Interesting property. It is a self check in. Ice available in office. It’s an old school outside entrance, park at your door motel. Rooms are freshened up very nicely. Keurig coffee and a big Roku TV. Comfortable bed. Just down the street from a McDonalds and a Pizza Hut. No breakfast, but a solid, fresh, clean place to sleep.

Great place to stay. Check In/Out is super convenient. The motel is clean and cozy. It was nice that it's also pet friendly. I would stay there again.

Clean, amazingly easy self checkin, an older mom & pop motel that has been updated recently. Only negatives are the lack of an ice machine and relatively dim lights.

Clean room, dog friendly, assigned parking outside your door. Large TV with maintained rooms, outdoor chairs for relaxing. Loved the check in/check out process! Felt safe. Great value for U.P. travelers!

Room was very clean and cozy

Though there are no smoking signs in the rooms, people clearly smoke here. Folks were when we arrived. Even if they do it outside, the smell lingers in the rooms. The sink is hard to turn on without going full blast and making everything wet.

This motel was very clean. The check in was different as there was no person to talk to but the check in information is provided to the guest in a text. Check in process was easy. Room was clean and bed comfortable. Price was fair. I would recommend.

Every detail attended to! Thoughtfully designed space and everything is updated. Very nice and 100% clean. We felt very comfortable here, slept great, and this place beat out the chain hotels, by a long shot. Highly recommend!

Everything was clean and updated. I love a roadside Inn that we can pull right up to and unload. It’s hard to find these types of motels in good condition, but this one was perfect. Best smart TV we have seen this trip. WiFi worked great and we were able to watch Netflix. I highly recommend.

Very clean and super easy check in. I think I can rate it as the best roadside inn for a quick overnight stay. If you happen to be in town or need a place to crash the night nearby, then don’t look. This is it!

The price was excellent and the property was centrally located to everything I came to the UP to see. The towels were terrible, but the bed was fine. I wish there were a small table with a chair or two instead of the desk. But for the price, I can't complain.

Our weekend trip was very memorable. And our room did not disappoint. Very clean and comfortable. Being close to M28 did concern me for a minute, but soon as I shut the door I no longer heard anything. Not even the neighbors coming and going. And can I brag about that rain shower! After a day of dusty trail riding. That rain shower was absolutely amazing!! I felt like a brand new person. Thank you Trails Inn.

AC Super Cold. Husband tried to torn me into an ice cube. Internet was fine, wasn't here much to use it.

The bathroom was extremely small. Could barely close the door past the toilet.

The room was clean and quiet. Our only complaint was the lighting was a little dim.

Typical UP motel. Clean. My only complaint is the old wood floors. You can feel and hear the neighbors literally just walking around. Loved they had smart TVs so we could watch our Netflix.

Before arrival, we received a code via text with instructions how to get our room key from the key dispenser. It was very easy to use. Room 111 was clean and comfortable. Pretty quiet. Bed was a bit firm, king pillows, we slept well. Has Roku tv. Dove soaps. Ice in buckets in lobby. The only thing I could complain about is at almost 2am our TV turned on, the brightness woke us up. We turned it back off and slept the rest of the night. Price was reasonable, I'd stay again.

Everything was Automated. Never saw any staff. The toilet is low almost cold size and the bathroom barely fits 1 person.

Petty after charges added to my bill. Like dirty washcloth charge etc.

My wife and I stayed 5 nights the week of October 5th, as we were in town helping a close friend with a medical emergency. We were hardly at the room until finally the 4th morning we had a little extra time in the morning, and tried to warm a bagel in the microwave. Pressing the open button on the microwave would “pop” the door, but it would not open. Multiple attempts pushing the door closed and pressing the open button, and it was clear something was jammed and coming apart behind the door. We called the front desk, which is not on-site, and reported what was happening with the microwave. The person answering the phone said they could have someone look at it later, and we said that was not necessary, that we didn’t need to use it but wanted to report it. We heard nothing more about it, until we checked our credit card statement and Traill Inn charged us an extra $75 for damaging the microwave. We did not damage the microwave in any way, we called and reported the problem the first time we tried to use it. Multiple called to the site and finally getting a manager to talk with us live, he explained that the microwave is thoroughly checked by management after each stay, so we “had” to have broken it. We obviously will never have anything to do with the corporation that owns Trail Inn again, and we would caution anyone that stays there that if anything fails in the room while you are unlucky enough to be there, you will be charged for it.

The check in procedure was not good. The reservation had been made a few hours earlier and upon arriving no one was in the office and the key was in a kiosk. Supposedly a code was to be given to access the kiosk. Ended up finding someone on the property to access the kiosk. If they had not been there I wouldn't have been able to get in. A strange way to access this place.

The customer service was great! I could text questions to whoever was working that day. You do have to pay attention to your confirmation texts as it has check in codes and things needed for getting your key. I think its a great system.

Property was generally nice and well kept for the price. Convenient location for snowmobile trip. The room doors had to really be slammed to get them to stay closed but not a big deal. Maid service was poor, we stayed 4 nights and the maid came in the room once and only made one of two beds (nothing was on the second bed preventing it being made up). It was a struggling to get supplies restocked.

Very nice facilities, but no onsite staff. Check was unique and would have been real sweet except the lock box with our key would not open. Had to wait close to 45 min. to hr. for someone to arrive and retrieve our key.

New to remote check in but touchscreen quickly connected us with someone who sounded local that helped us obtain our room keys from the automated 'key safe'. Room was large, clean and comfortable. Park right outside your door. Needed good wifi to run a board meeting and had no issues.

Fantastically clean, good service! We only popped in for a quick overnight but staff easily adjusted check in for our late arrival, and it was one of the cleanest places we have ever stayed!

I had an excellent one night stay at the Trail Inn while snowmobiling in the area. The room was clean and comfortable with a good bathroom, comfortable bed, work desk and a good sized TV with good service. There are several restaurants and gas stations close by which is very convenient while snowmobiling. The trails are right next to the hotel and they have a large parking lot. Everything worked out great for my first snowmobiling trip to the UP and I'll be back next year.

Convenient location but outside on highway shows a different hotel name and only place that showed The Trail Inn was on a door at the office. Also the instructions to get the key were contactless but worked out. Room clean and good value for money.

Great place to stay for rhe money. I booked through Expedia for $82/night. Trail is right next to hotel. Only issue was Newbury had roads scraped down to pavement.

The property was difficult to find because the major roadside signage was an empty frame. Thanks to Waze, we found it anyway.

No nonsense motel, self check in, park at your door, very hot water. :) Convenient location. Would stay here again.

Motel was right by the snowmobile trail and is snowmobile friendly. Room was clean, recently renovated, shower was hot and good water pressure. There is right down the road and easily to ride too. A restaurant about a mile away, with good food. Overall a great experience!

Property is perfectly located just outside of town. Very quiet and comfortable rooms.

Great location and value for our visit to Newberry and Tahquamanon Falls. Check in is automated so no real front desk to evaluate but was very smooth check in.

Couldn't find the place no sign drove past it several times. Had to have another person who was checking in show me how to get my key. Bath fan was very noisy.

Automated check-in/check-out was easy. Room was clean and well appointed. Perfect jump off spot for Tahquamenon Falls! There is a new, cool, coffee shop in town, right on the way to the park! Don’t stop at the McDonalds after a home game…

This is an older motel, but has been kept up well. Check-in was totally automated, but quick & easy. Management texted us check-in instructions that were very easy to follow. Rooms are small & needed a luggage rack for suitcase. No breakfast offered.
