Econo Lodge at the University

The room was great for the price but they could use an update on the entry and hallway to the rooms. Hall Carpets weren’t clean. Common Door was never locked overnight so anyone could walk in.

Included breakfast was good , but was in their main Suburban stay property. I did not like that the Econo Lodge was in back of the Suburban Stay property. Once I checked in, I found that the one pool had been closed by the SC DEHEC (health department) While the property had been renovated with newer beds and furniture, the walls and ceiling needed work, and the bath door was coming apart near the bottom of the door.

The room was old and used. The door to the hotel did not lock and anybody can enter the back door right by where our room was. The pool was never open, which is one of the main reasons why we went there. Very disappointed in everything the only decent thing was the morning breakfast

We enjoyed our last minute stay. With only 20 minutes from the beach, it was very convenient without costing an arm and a leg. The only down side is there's no elevator in the second building.

The rooms were dingy. Had to change rooms due to roof leaking and mold. No ice machine, vending machines were out of order. No staff available when the went to inquire about vending machines. Not on door stated helping other guests but saw him at the gas station when we had to walk there for water

Desk receptionist was kind, courteous, and accommodating. He came to see if he could fix my heat. He couldn't, so he brought 2 blankets. The next day he was able to change me to another room. Hotels need more people like him. I didn't like driving in a parking lot full of pot holes or my rating would be better.

The first room the refrigerator didn’t work the a/c made the bed shake. No where in the room was the password for the internet. After I complained and asked for a room on the first floor we were able to move. The top floor 400 the hall had a weird smell..The only way to get luggage was to carry it up 2 flights. The stairs were all painted black you should at least paint the outline yellow . Hard to see where the next step was.

No locks on doors to enter building. Check-in / lobby located at a different building. Urine smell in hallway. Hallways and bending areas filthy. I’ve never stayed in an econo lodge and never will again. We changed our reservation for the second night. Only stayed one night instead of 2 bc we did not feel safe. Room was nor bad. Staff was very nice.

Front desk ervice was great; helpful and friendly. Was disappointed that the pool was not filled and no mention of that when making reservation or check-in.

The room had a mold smell and mildew smell mold was on the window tried to get a refund they told me no and that they stand firm about not giving me the refund. So DONT STAY HERE

Dirty room, dead bugs on floor when we got in room. Strong smell of cleaner or bug spray. Didn’t even bring bags up, left and checked in at a better hotel

My room was filthy. I took a towel and ran it across the floor and the towel was black. There was a goo on both headboards. The carpet in the hall was filthy black . There was a chunk of carpet missing in the hall. Outside the entry door was a huge pile of cigarette butts that looked like it had not been clean in months. My shoe stuck to the stairwell steps due to something sticky on them. Some more serving implements for getting the food off the morning serving trays would be good so people wouldn't use their fingers to pick up the sausages. I also never saw the pool that is in their pictures

Overall, the room with two beds was okay. It had the basics and looked fine at first glance. However, there was a strong smell of dampness and mildew not only in the room, but throughout the entire building and hallways on every floor. It was very uncomfortable to stay in that environment. Also, be aware that they charge an additional deposit before check-in, which they say will be refunded later

I didn’t stay here! I checked out immediately, and had requested a refund due to mold in my room, in the ac vent and mildew smell throughout.

The rooms were disgusting!! There was garbage already in the garbage can when we got there. Mold in the shower curtain. Gross!! Don’t stay here!!

The room was in terrible condition. The tub was backing up. When I called the front desk to ask for more towels, they never brought them. The bathroom door didn’t stay shut or locked. The hallway smelled like a urinal.

The toom was so dirty. Food on walls. Our feet were black from the dirty floors. It was awful.

The room itself was very nice. It’s been updated so it has laminated floors, updated bathroom sink and comfortable beds. The hallways are terrible though. It smells of old cigarette smoke and the carpets are filthy. Thankfully, we were close to the outside door. It was also a unique set up with one building a short walk from the main check in desk. We actually had to walk across the parking lot to go get breakfast in the lobby. Not a big deal but unexpected. Weekday breakfast was also only a continental. Coffee, muffins, cereal, toast, yogurt. No eggs, sausage, etc. Only on weekends. The Mexican restaurant right next to the hotel was AMAZING. Definitely a must try if you stay.

Having stayed at other properties within only miles of this property, we would say that it was drastically inferior and not at all worth the price difference. The check in office was unattended with a note posted to call for someone to come. When he came, the clerk warned us that the door handle was installed backwards and lifted up. And then made an inappropriate and alarming joke about how that added an extra layer of security for female travelers who might be alone. Our room was in a separate building and the electronic lock on the building to enter did not properly lock. The safety latch on the room door was completely gone and when the clerk came and attached one it was still wobbly to the point where we moved an armoir in front of the door to feel comfortable sleeping. We were given one hotel size bar of soap for both washing your hands and showering. A hand-written note on an envelope was left under the TV asking for tips for housekeeping. The remote control was missing the back cover to keep the batteries in. To be fair the bed was clean, we did not see any bugs in the room and the bed was perfectly comfortable. Absolutely would not stay again. Cancelled a future reservation at the same hotel immediately after leaving.

Clearly not cleaned well. Room was hot even after putting it on 65 with cool fan all the way turned up. Key card was next to worthless as it took like 15 attempts to get in the room every time. Beds could be compared to plywood

The room is clean. However the sound proof on the first floor is not very good. I can hear the car engine starting sound outside of my window in the early morning. Also, there is no water fountain in either buildings.

Comfortable bed and clean

The shower curtain is too short for the height of the rod. Bathroom floor gets soaked. No exhaust fan in bathroom means it VERY steamy and wet. Other than than our stay was fine

You must book certain bldgs. I stayed in 415 and it was newer finishes. Some of the original bldgs are not renovated and have issues

I was very scared by the reviews of this hotel. I had no other options since everything thing else was booked for parents weekend. I do not understand all of the negative reviews. JR checked us in and I told him my concerns - he brought me to the room first to make sure I was ok with it. It is completely fine, very clean, sheets were spotless, bathroom was spotless, no bugs, no mold, no bad smell of chemicals or mildew. They are exactly as pictured. For this price I’m not sure what people expect. There was some rust around the door trim in the bathroom and the trim in general is beat up, that did not bother me at all. You cannot beat the location - it is very close to CCU. When we were there, there were no people hanging out around the hotel and we didn’t notice any smell from the two restaurants until the morning we left at 4am and it was not bad. For the price this hotel is more than acceptable. At the last minute I could have gotten a reservation at one of the newer hotels, it would have been $400 more for 3 nights, it was after my allowable cancellation date so could not take it, I’m glad I didn’t. For reference we were in the back building but JR said the only difference is front building has outside door and have kitchenettes, they were all renovated the same time. If you just need a hotel to sleep at night this is a very good option again for the price. There was nothing scary about it.

Great affordable stay close to CCU. Gentleman who checked us in late was friendly and awesome. Room was clean and comfortable. Bath had some bad caulking/rust/etc but was still clean.

My stay was brief but the evening manager, Johnathan, was very friendly, kind and at the same time, professional. I was very impressed.

We book our employees here a lot i would say ten to twelve times a year and the last time they asked our employee for a deposit of $100 when the room was paid for in advance. When calling them about this they said it would be refunded upon check out once the room was inspected. VERY DISAPPOINTED!!!!!!

Asked me for a security deposit upon check in even though I had paid for the room already. Never got it credited back to my card. They were “busy” when I checked out - both clerks (one not dressed professionally at all) were outside smoking while there was another customer inside waiting on a clerk and others eating the breakfast. The not professionally dressed gentleman “helped” me checkout although the other clerk was using the computer for the waiting customer. Told me they’d credit me back and have a nice day. Still haven’t received that deposit back and I’m still not sure why one was even necessary.

Not a good checkin experience

I was in Conway visiting my son at college. Econo Lodge was close by the school. The cost was reasonable. The room was comfortable and clean. Front desk staff were polite and friendly.

Close to the University. Check in was super easy and the gentleman who checked me in was a star. He was informative, pleasant and funny. Ample parking. The room was large and clean. All the usual hotel room items. Would def stay again.

Great value for the price. Room was clean and well furnished. Forest at the front desk was very friendly and helpful. I will definitely stay again.

The guy that checked me in was strange. Told me I booked a handicapped room when I did not. I booked a king bed. Then told me he didn’t have any king beds. Then asked me if I still wanted the room that I booked. When I said yes. I want the king room I booked. He then says, I have one king room left in the back. I was so confused. He said all that to say nothing. Waisted my time and he was puffing a vape pin. Extremely unprofessional.

I would not recommend this property, particularly to single females as it seems to be in an unsafe area

I didn't like that the door that is supposed to be locked was unlocked all the time. It was located across the street from a mental health clinic. What I did like was the front desk staff were down to earth pleasant people to deal with. I liked the proximity to the university. I liked the accommodations and the bathroom appeared to be updated recently.

Area was unsafe and inconvenient. Wanted to check out and go to another hotel but was forced to stay because management would not refund me the days I paid for in advance. Will never stay there again. Owner was very arrogant

It is at a convenient location, close to the university, Walmart, and restaurants. But the street in front of the property is busy. Sometimes, the traffic is terrible.

Close proximity to Coastal Carolina University. Historic Conway close with great restaurants and shopping.

Our room was in the building at the back. Room was neat. Front staff was very friendly and helpful. Convenient location.

This place is get what you pay for. All staff was amazing room dated but again for 90 bucks a night i am not complaining bed was comfortable fridge was cold, also the continental breakfast is good in main clean lobby.

Very basic accommodations. The place is under renovation. Updated room has vinyl flooring, nice beds, refrigerator, and flat screen tv. Bathroom was ok. Tub/shower redone. Old / original toilet was still in place. Door had rot. Overall property had an odd layout made up of two buildings kiddy corner from one another. Breakfast was disappointing but available.

This hotel offers continental breakfast but we did not get to try it because it was located in the main building and you have to eat it in their lobby. They do not allow you to take it back to your room. We were in building B so, that was inconvenient. The room was clean and the beds were comfortable. The room did have a strong mildew smell. We bought RIDX to have in the room. It helped a little but the smell was pretty strong.
