Everything was wonderful. So beautiful and friendly. The bartenders went way and above! Loved them. My only suggestions is you need a sign in your garage parking on how to exit! It says exit (which I guess means exit to the elevator) and we kept going up floors until we finally came back down and figured it out. We seen other people do the same thing! You need to put numerous signs indicating exit out of the garage is on floor 5 on all your levels!

I stayed at the Edgewater a few years ago my daughter goes to UW and it was great! This time it was not so good. They seem to be short staffed . First my room was in the other building and you have to take a tunnel from the main hotel or walk outside. My room was small over looking a frat house and it was noisy they were having parties. The spa is in that building and was excellent I had a facial. Someone had left there room service tray by the elevator and it was there for 2 days and was still there when I checked out on day 3. We went to Augies for something to eat and all the tables were not clean lots of used glasses and beer bottles. It was self serve no waiters. The bar tender said the bus boy sometimes is never to be found. My stay was disappointing for the price of the hotel. Hopefully they can get more staff.

Location on lake is beautiful and rooms are nice. Signage to get around hotel is not helpful and long, narrow hallways are quite uncomfortable… reminded us of “The Shining.” Overall nice, price point for the room just seemed high for a lower, level lake view room right above busy restaurant area and long walk to room.

If you’re on a lower floor (1-4), you’re in the basement levels of the building. They told me they fill these rooms last, and I understand why. These rooms are cave-like: dark, smaller than rooms on higher floors, and with very low ceilings. Even if you pay for a lakeshore view, know that you could be on the 11th floor (a spectacular view full of light and with a larger bathroom and double vanity, a table and armchairs) or on the 1st floor (where you have none of the above and your room opens up to a pier full of tourists and a sidewalk with frequent passersby, so that you feel you’re in a cage on display). The rooms cost the same amount but are not at all comparable. If you ask to be moved or tell the front desk staff the room is not what you expected or that you didn’t enjoy your stay, tough luck. Don’t expect any Midwestern customer service. They don’t care. In short, if you stay here, don’t pay extra for the view because you may not get that but you will get a hefty hotel bill.

Edgewater is a class act. Unfortunately, I had a bad experience. When I arrived I received a note that said I would get a room upgrade: no room upgrade. Not said I had 2pm checkout: no 2pm checkout. I used the spa. Came back to room. Door locked! The hotel layout made me hike, on my spa clothing, down elevator, cross the basement passage, more elevators, to front desk. No wallet. No cell. Got new key, no sorry. Then go back this route in my wet spa clothes to my room. Embarrassing. (Refund, or credit, or I’m not going back. Too embarrassed.)

We checked in at front desk and we my wife and I where not in the room for more that a hour and without notice or a phone call or even a knock on the door someone with a hotel uniform unlocked the door and walked right in and saw my beautiful wife changing clothes it scared her and I almost hurt Everyman that was working on the property but my wife calmed me down and we went right to the front desk and told them everything and they said they would get back to us but never Did

The Edgewater is a beautiful on Lake Mendota in Madison. It is a great location within a few blocks of the Capitol and lots of restaurants, shopping and the UW campus. It is meticulously clean and comfortable. We have stayed here many times and the staff are always super friendly and helpful. We were upgraded to a room with a view of the lake. It will so relaxing laying in bed and watching the boats sail by!

The hotel is old and run down. I was supposed to get an upgrade but was put in a dingy room on the 3 floor. The restaurant closes at 2pm and there were about 4 different groups that were looking for a place to eat. There is a sandwich place in the hotel that was supposed to be open but wasn’t.

We always stay at the Edgewater whenever we come to Madison. Rooms are comfortable. Worth paying extra for a lake view. The Statehouse is always a bit of a mixed bag. Overall, the food is usually quite good, but the servers are often a bit inexperienced. We had Thanksgiving dinner there this year. The turkey and the gravy and the cranberry sauce were excellent, but the side dishes were not very good. And they ran out of the pumpkin pie. We ordered room service for breakfast which was mostly fine, except that one morning they forgot to toast the english muffin.

Things I liked: the view of the lake from our room was really nice. The room was very clean and comfortable. The complimentary snack tray was a nice touch. Things I did NOT like: They charge you $24 for parking overnight in their parking lot. We were awakened at 5 AM by the refrigerator cycling on, then off, over and over with a loud click every time. The two meals we had in the Statehouse (their upscale restaurant) ranged between mediocre and disappointing. Seriously, go somewhere else to eat.

Easy to get lost due to lack of signage or directions on the property. It would be very easy to make the hotel more user friendly. The valet service was excellent. Some desk staff were unhelpful. The restaurants service, food and waiters were excellent. The hotel is in a lovely location on the lake and easy walking to downtown, the capital and museums.
