This was awful! 1st room tv not working, pool machine noise. 2nd romm was occupied already. 3 rd room smelled of mens cheap aftershave. Had to wait an hour for the pool due to adding chemicals (4pm pool opens at 8 am). Indoor pool cold as the ocean. Fans running due to chlorine smell. This was the purpose of the booking to swim and relax. This down right terrible.,if husband didnt talk me down i would have made a sceen. I should get a full refund!

Its fine for an overnight stay. Room seems nice and clean. The oool is not warm at all and there is no "spa" even though there are signs for one. The lounge doesnt have many options. Breakfast is included with the room but i havent tried that yet. It has been a fine stay for the cheap price.

LOCATION: The Clarion Inn is conveniently located near a ShopRite and a Staples, and two other hotels. It is also near New London Train Station & Ferry terminal. EXTERIOR: The exterior doors and painting could be much-improved. The doors are sometimes showing wear-and-tear of door latches, and do not have "Accessibility Buttons" which would help make accessing the doors easier for the elderly or those with "assistive transport devices" (wheelchairs & 2 wheeled electric scooters & bicycles). The parking lot could also be improved, by removing cracks in asphalt where grass grows through. INTERIORS & ROOMS: Aside from the broken guest laundry in the 600 wing, the interior hallways seem well-maintained. There was a leak of some sort near the ice machine by room 313, that seemed to leak into the carpet of the interior, which needs repair. Room I was in, was spacious, had infrared stove and a high-powered microwave (1580 Watt), and full-sized refrigerator-&-freezer, hair dryer and digital air conditioner, with "Dry" setting. SERVICE: There were service problems, encountered with many staff, except for one, who seemed to be of northern European descent. Politeness of front desk staff needs some improvement, and food services (who seemed mostly hispanic) did not seem knowledgeable about breakfast area resupply. English was a second language for many hotel staff, in August 2024, so be prepared to communicate in English, with hand gestures, to get your meaning across.

The room itself was average and clean; however, the property was a bit of a mess. The lawn was overgrown, there was trash all through the grass, there was only one ice machine on the opposite end of the property, the lights in the pool would not turn on, the hallway lights were dim if working at all. The building was in the midst of being painted so there was paper/trash around the building, and the building was not secure (no key access at side doors). There was also no elevator, and laundry was not in service. The breakfast was average and the staff was polite, but the overall stay was disappointing.

LOCATION: The Clarion Inn is near a shopping center called the New London Mall, which has an urgent care clinic, a ShopRite grocery store, and a Guitar Center. It is also near a Staples, where one can do Amazon returns. The New London Train Station & Ferry station are also nearby, and Amtrak and CT Rail trains pick-up and drop-off at the train station. EXTERIOR: The parking lot could be improved, as there are a lot of cracks with grass growing through them. There are 2 entrances: one from N Frontage Road, and one on Bayonet Street. Doors into the building have some damaged locks, and can be improved by adding "Assistive Transport" buttons for wheelchair and electric bike-or-scooter access. The exterior of the buildings need to be better painted, especially on the North Frontage Road side. INTERIOR: The Clarion Inn is 3 wings, connected by the lobby and dining area. The 3 wings are not all at the same elevation, and there are no elevators, so if you have an assistive transport device (electric scooter or wheelchair), it is better to request a room in the 300 wing, which is on the ground floor, because that wing connects to the front desk and breakfast area by an interior ramp. The 100 wing is also possible, if you can make it up 3-or-4 steps. - It would be helpful if the front desk had a ramp it could place along those steps to the 100 wing. In August 2024, there was a pool, but no lifeguard, and a non-functioning laundry. Service personnel were poorly trained except 1

Our stay was fine but we couldn’t use the indoor pool. The pool area had no heat so the room was cold and so was the water. The hot tub had been paved over also.

1st off pool was indoors and freezing!!! Only reason i booked here was for the pool very disappointing..... the hallways smelled of pot and do not buy food from there "restaurant"... worst food ever would not feed to my dog.... bed was comfy though

The room and the hotel kept clean. The bad thing was that the swimming pool was very cold as well as the room itself. Hallways also cold. No way you can use the pool in winter. Better of they would just close during off season.

The room was filthy. It smelled like urine and there were ants crawling around the bathroom. The walls were grimy. When the air conditioner did trigger on...which was rare...it rattled so loudly it woke us up.The fridge was ancient and rusty. The mattresses both sagged. The tv was tiny. The hallways were dark and dingy and hadnt been vacuumed in a long time. Cracked cement and walkways from parking lot to entrance. No automatic doors so difficult to maneuver suitcase and opening the door. We checked in around 11 pm and it took the guy forever to find us an accessible room like we had reserved and paid for. There is no elevator. Filthy disgusting hotel and i couldnt leave fast enough this morning.

Dirty bathroom. Property dirty looking! Needle caps on ground. A.C leaking on our rug ! Soaked 2ft around unit!! No repair man abailable. No A.C in the other room I rented. Night work on property men in our windows at 1030pm. Staff said no repair man on property he was at a wedding! I am so disappointed! Looking for some reambursment

I am a pretty low key person, however this hotel was terrible. Smelly, dirty, the pool was absolutely disgusting. It was a waste of money. Our family doesn’t have a lot to spend on extras and this was a truly horrible place to stay.

The room was filthy. It smelled like cigarettes. The carpet was wet and grimy. The shower head was not attached to the wall, toilet.dingy and brown, sink had no stopper. Arrived late after midnight and had no place to go. Stayed until8 am and checked out. Have been trying to get tegund for the other 3 nights.

Did not ask for a efficiency unit (which they squeezed into a regular room), with full size fridge, stove, etc. Pillows were half size square pillows, which I have never seen in a hotel, and only 4 (equivalent of 2 standard). When we ask for additional, they said housekeeping was closed. Next day when we ask for additional, we were told yes, they never arrived. Very unprofessional staff and VERY CASUAL appearance. Over-all, price probably fit the venue. I worked in this hotel 40 years ago, it has gone WAAAAYYYY down hill.

We found roaches in our room and when we told the front desk they were rude and rolled their eyes at us. I also watched the housekeeping staff not remove the sheets and just remake the bed with the same sheets that’s were slept on the night before.

There’s no elevator so you need to walk upstairs with your luggage etc. was charged a $100 security deposit I was not aware of. Only one vending machine ( on the first floor) which didn’t even work. Beds were small and uncomfortable. Pillows were small and really poor quality. Refrigerator made terrible rattling noise the entire time.

The hotel itself is obviously very old and outdated. It is in need of a major face-lift. The room was clean enough but very small. The security side doors did not lock so anyone could get in.

This hotel was horrible. Old, dingy carpeting. Dark hallways and walls badly in need of paint. The room was big enough, and the beds were clean and comfortable. But the furniture was stained. Air conditioner barely worked. I didn't venture to the pool for fear of what that would be like. Location was good, breakfast was nasty. Very disappointed as I have stayed in other Clarions that I liked very much.

Upon entering the room was a distinct smell of smoke, as if the room was for smoking travelers. We confirmed a non-smoking room. The entry light in the room did not work. The toilet in the bathroom was designed for children and not adults. The television has a distinct line running through the screen. And there was no coffee pot. Now I am being charged an extra $100 for unknown reasons.

Location was great, right off I95. Staff was courtesy. Unfortunately my room (non-smoking) smelled like smoke. Could not see out the old windows, burn marks on the furniture and the door handle lock didn't lock. But the bed was comfortable and Ihand no hallway noise. This run down motel in was not great. It looks like it hasn't been updated or repaired in decades. The only saving grace is that it looks like they do care about the health of their guests, the sheets where clean. While there were some bugs, nothing gross (a spider and some small flying insects that I checked were not mosquitos). The hotel has paper thin walls and we were treated to more than 30 minutes of someone in the room next to us trying to disgorge the contents of their stomach into what I hope was their toilet. In addition you could hear every conversation, every drunk person returning to their room, every door slam and every foot creak. At some point you start to ask if the goal of a hotel is a place to sleep, are you just better off having stayed in the car. Lastly, there were a lot of people just lurking outside the hotel. Some clearly were guests with dogs and such, but others seemed to have no good reason to be around. Next time if it is a choice to stay here, or in the car, I will choose the car. I didn't dare to try the breakfast.

The outside and area of hotel was a bit worn down and strange people around but once you get into hotel it is fine and average overall. We were given an option to upgrade room to be on first floor since no elevator there - the “upgraded” room was a kitchenette too and had a strange smell and appliances were not that clean so we changed back to the other room which was fine and we were satisfied with it . Overall average hotel.

Unprofessional, no order, lies after lies...When checking in, we were not let into the room untill 45min later because their system was down and key cards didnt work...after standing in the hall watching staff walk back and forth from our room to the front desk to get card after card and then finally opening the room with a hard key, we knew this was a mistake..no attempts to switch rooms, no apologys, promised reimbursement to us and others staying at the hotel for same or other issues which we never received..pool was horrible smelly and cloudy never went in..hotel was not cared for and it showed...staff barley spoke english, front desk person claimed to be a manager but couldnt help or approve anything.. Front desk just kept passing the complaints to the next person on duty and nothing ever got resolved..made complaints, even reached out to "corporate" which is like a third party company, no help...this place is a joke, smells, dirty, not up on maintenance even the parking lot didnt feel safe... Alot of questionable things going on and im sure a bunch of broken building codes...stay anywhere else, no worth the disrespectful treatment to a paying customer...

Well let’s see where to start. We arrived and the guy behind the desk tells us we can’t have the king bed that we reserved they gave it to somebody else because we showed up to late but we had called ahead of time and said we’d be later than our check in the lady said not a problem. Then he gives us a room with two of the most uncomfortable beds ever and my bed had a bug on the pillow. The room itself felt dirty. But back to the guy at the front he yelled at me like straight yelled at me and told us he doesn’t need our money we don’t have to stay there all because I had mentioned to my boyfriend about the reviews I had read once he said the things about the room to us. Then our key card didn’t work and he then had to switch us completely to a different room just because the key card didn’t work. The hotel smells like smoke terribly. And we were woken up to a man power washing right outside of our hotel room window it was loud AF. We want our money back that was absolutely disgusting all around including the staff.

Horrible experience. I had multiple rooms booked and the property canceled some. Made it very hard for me to get them to fix it and get me the required number of rooms. They didn't have the the upgraded suite kitchen rooms available that I reserved. They do not offer the type of room i had reserved. BUT!!!!! EXTERIOR: The exterior doors and painting could be much-improved. The doors are sometimes showing wear-and-tear of door latches, and do not have "Accessibility Buttons" which would help make accessing the doors easier for the elderly or those with "assistive transport devices" (wheelchairs & 2 wheeled electric scooters & bicycles). The parking lot could also be improved, by removing cracks in asphalt where grass grows through. INTERIORS & ROOMS: Aside from the broken guest laundry in the 600 wing, the interior hallways seem well-maintained. There was a leak of some sort near the ice machine by room 313, that seemed to leak into the carpet of the interior, which needs repair. Room I was in, was spacious, had infrared stove and a high-powered microwave (1580 Watt), and full-sized refrigerator-&-freezer, hair dryer and digital air conditioner, with "Dry" setting. SERVICE: There were service problems, encountered with many staff, except for one, who seemed to be of northern European descent. Politeness of front desk staff needs some improvement, and food services (who seemed mostly hispanic) did not seem knowledgeable about breakfast area resupply. It is also near a Staples, where one can do Amazon returns. The New London Train Station & Ferry station are also nearby, and Amtrak and CT Rail trains pick-up and drop-off at the train station. EXTERIOR: The parking lot could be improved, as there are a lot of cracks with grass growing through them. There are 2 entrances: one from N Frontage Road, and one on Bayonet Street. Doors into the building have some damaged locks, and can be improved by adding "Assistive Transport" buttons for wheelchair and electric bike-or-scooter access. The exterior of the buildings need to be better painted, especially on the North Frontage Road side. INTERIOR: The Clarion Inn is 3 wings, connected by the lobby and dining area. The 3 wings are not all at the same elevation, and there are no elevators, so if you have an assistive transport device (electric scooter or wheelchair), it is better to request a room in the 300 wing, which is on the ground floor, because that wing connects to the front desk and breakfast area by an interior ramp. The 100 wing is also possible, if you can make it up 3-or-4 steps. - It would be helpful if the front desk had a ramp it could place along those steps to the 100 wing. We chose this hotel because we needed a one night stay and it was very close to the Cross Sound Ferry. Upon arrival, we were given a room at the far end of the hotel that must have been used to house long stay guests—it had a full sized refrigerator, stove, and dishwasher, none of which were new nor particularly clean and took up 90% of the space in the room. The hallway and common areas were tired and needed painting. To be fair, once we complained about the room, we were moved to the opposite wing of the hotel to a room that had none of the full-sized appliances and was perfectly adequate. Why we were sent to the first room when we were booked for a single night is beyond me. It was very off-putting.

This was a last minute booking for one night and was perfect for our needs. The area surrounding the hotel seemed a little dark but the hotel itself was quiet and although finishes were dated and need some updating everything was clean in the room. Breakfast was somewhat disappointing but again, given the price and last minute booking this was just what our family needed for a last minute decision to stay somewhere overnight.

The lawn was overgrown, there was trash all through the grass, there was only one ice machine on the opposite end of the property, the lights in the pool would not turn on, the hallway lights were dim if working at all. The building was in the midst of being painted so there was paper/trash around the building, and the building was not secure (no key access at side doors). There was also no elevator, and laundry was not in service. The breakfast was average and the staff was polite, but the overall stay was disappointing.

This hotel was very reasonably priced during the week. It is quite old, patches in the bathroom, blow dryer pulling away from the wall, etc. Our carpet was wet during our 5 day stay near the window/air conditioner unit. The front desk staff seemed to only have a rudimentary understanding of English. The buffet breakfast was good each morning and the room was large and nicely decorated. The bedside light elecric plug was not functioning, requiring us to change out the lamp which then meant we couldn't plug the switched out light in because there was a nail in the third hole in the socket. A bit frustrating, but it was a place to sleep at a very reasonable price.

Stores and supermarkets close by makes it a convenient location. The property is runned down in the outside, and the room we got was nothing like the one in the picts, until I went to the counter and ask for the room I paid for. Buffet breakfast was the same everyday, and one of the days I stayed there was no breakfast at all.

The room was good enough, had full size stove, fridge, and even a dishwasher, but no dishes, pans, or even indication they were there, only that the room had microwave &mini fridge. Clean and comfortable. Well I will start off by saying me the wife and daughter will definitely stay again because of the staff. I did meet the actual owner of the hotel and he was absolutely awesome. His name is Sam and he went above and beyond for us 5 star. The hotel needs lots of work and updates but Sam the owner is trying to do little by little each year to update the property. They do have a pretty nice breakfast in the mornings which is awesome and on weekends they do free henna tattoos which is awesome for the kids. All and all dsam was awesome owner and the staff was very kind and for that reason we will go back every year.

Staff here were absolutely lovely I forgot a ring and they found it in the room and held on to it until I could come back. The room itself you could tell had not been updated there were dark stains on the wall underneath the sink and around the shower area. You could just see the old grout that was peeling away and it was stained with mold. The room smelled like mildew when you walked in and was very dark some of the lights did not work. I happen to be in a wheelchair accessible room and the bench would not stay up to get out of my way in the shower. There was no hair dryer and the room was just very dark and unpleasant. For $200 a night I expected better. Breakfast wasn't too bad, typical continental breakfast for a hotel

The staff were friendly & helpful but they're working at a dilapidated hotel desperately in need of a refurb. In the room, there was a pervasive smell of mildew. The carpet felt slightly damp, the shower was encrusted with black mildew & rust. The exterior door lock to the wing of the hotel where we stayed was broken and open 24/7. At $200 a night, it's a high price for a low standard of accommodation.
