The Townsend Hotel

Great property but very disappointed we were not informed ahead of time about the renovations going on while we were there. They were very disruptive, very inconvenient and not up to standard when your paying 500.00 a night to stay there.

Staff is very friendly. Room service is great, a little pricey, but the food is fast and everything tasted as expected. Valet is quick and easy. We lived in Birmingham for many years; it’s the perfect spot to walk to all that downtown has to offer. I didn’t get an emailed receipt which I thought they said I’d get at check out, but it’s not a big deal. I’m sure if I call them, they’ll send it. Definitely a great choice if you want to be in the middle of a very safe and beautiful town.

I recently had the pleasure of staying at The Townsend Hotel in Birmingham, Michigan, and I must say it was a truly exceptional experience. From the moment I walked through the doors, I was greeted by the friendly and attentive staff [3]. The hotel is situated in a great location, with easy access to shopping, restaurants, and other attractions. The rooms were very nice and roomy, providing the perfect blend of comfort and luxury. The hotel also boasts a bar and restaurant, where I enjoyed delicious food and drinks. Overall, I highly recommend The Townsend Hotel for anyone visiting Birmingham, Michigan. It truly exceeded my expectations.

Excellent customer service by valet parking team. At midnight, I realized that a substantial amount of water was coming thru the bathroom ceiling from the room above. This required that I change rooms. Hotel did not readily offer any offset of fees, surprisingly.

The bar frig didn't work and everything inside was actually warm

Very nice property. I may have missed notice of it, but I was surprised after checkout to be charged an extra $22.00. I called to ask about it, and I was told that it was an amenity fee to pay for the "free" coffee and wifi.

The Townsend is still a nice hotel but it is getting old and they charge an amenity fee which is ridiculous!

Top notch service! Room was a king deluxe , very nice on the top floor. Comfortable, clean, bar well stocked and spacious!

I choose the Townsend because of the proximity to the event I had to attend. Also, I am familiar with the Birmingham area and location to family in Bloomfield Hills. Q at the concierge desk was very helpful with locating a private driver due to the Townsend does not have a courtesy vehicle as noted on their website.

Nice hotel but when booking they didn’t say nor did the website say there’s a 150 dollar incidental they didn’t have a pool

My room was put together, but not clean. There was dust caked on the vents, huge caulk was in the shower, but was pulling away from the wall. The bottom of the door in the bathroom was literally disgusting, bubbling up I’m surprised the door even shut. The vent in the room kept sucking in the heavy curtain, so I to use their round pillow to ensure it kept it open. I got the room on sale, I’d never think this would be worth the full price. It’s literally just the name that they are holding onto. Maybe they pay more mind to the rooms that are more expensive, but the room I was in, no way.

Beautiful hotel, sheets had “old” smell, shower had orange(mold or rust) grout. Very friendly staff. Toilet ran on and off all night, other mechanical “sounds” and annoying blue light coming from some device at top of wall….. sleep was not great.

This hotel is located around everything that you would want for a fight night or staycation. Walking distance to 2 different movie theaters, Starbucks, many different types of restaurants, park and trails. The hotel was clean, quiet, comfortable, relaxing. We will be back!

I LOVE this hotel, the staff, and area. Unfortunately, our floor had the intense odor of marijuana, which was very uncomfortable, off-putting, and, frankly, unexpected for this kind of establishment.

A classic luxury hotel, with thoroughly modern features and furnishings. Located in downtown Birmingham, its right at the center of ao many wonderful bars, restaurants, and stores. The staff is amazing, helpful, and friendly. The rooms are spotless, and exceptionally comfortable! Everything is clean and well cared for. The only problem is you'll have a hard time getting out of bed, its so comfortable! I always love staying here!

Large beautiful rooms

First, the people working here are amazing. They were fast, reliable, and personable in all the best ways. Working during holidays is tough but these awesome people really took care of me. They make the Townsend work. Overall, the hotel is clearly “fancy,” but a few small-ish things stuck out. Like I was surprised an in-room fridge and microwave were a $20 charge since their food portions are very generous (-/ ?). Surprised some in-room stuff (e.g., entry bulb, bathroom rug, smart controls, etc.) were damaged or flat out broken. Surprised my in-room HVAC sounded like a jet engine raging in the corner lol. And NOT surprised that other guests are terrible at closing doors with a regard for anyone or anything else in the world besides themselves (i.e., NOISY!). Other notable things: No one was wearing masks or social distancing. WAY too many single-serve items and points of luxury waste (≠ eco-friendly). Window view was a brick wall. My hallway smelled like woodsmoke(?) most of my stay. End of day, I am human and I think humans get nitpicky when they spend a lot of money so I guess some of this is just that. Most of this is unremarkable at say a Holiday Inn but considering the luxury tagline the price tag here I say 4-stars is a fair assessment.

Seemed silly but then you see the tiny $10 snacks in the room and realize it’s like being in a game with in-app purchases leaving you like, “but wait, didn’t I already pay for this to be included?” Capitalism! ;) Additionally, again for the money, I was surprised to find my room’s entry lightbulb was non-functional. My in-room smart controls seemingly only partially worked. My bathroom’s cloth rug was really tattered. Some in-room dining utensils were “dirty” (enough that I cleaned in bathroom sink before use), and the hall perpetually smelled faintly like woodsmoke(?). But the only major complaint I have here was the noise. I was on the 3rd floor near what sounded like a constant flow of people unfamiliar with opening and closing doors without slamming them. And inside the room, my HVAC system sounded like a jet engine taking off. End of day, I am human and I think humans get nitpicky when they spend a lot of money so I guess some of this is just that. Most of this is unremarkable at say a Holiday Inn but considering the luxury tagline the price tag here I say 4-stars is a fair assessment.

One of the best hotels I’ve stayed in, anywhere. The room was large, loaded with all sorts of amenities, clean, and upscale stylish. Everything in the room worked perfectly. At breakfast in the hotel restaurant, I had perhaps the best eggs benedict ever, including that the toasted English muffin was still a little crispy until the last bite. Service throughout the hotel was prompt, friendly, and professional.

Rooms are tired and in serious need of a refresher. This is no longer the 5 star luxury hotel it used to be.

Staff are exceptional

The staff is incredible, well trained and connected to the traveler. The people make all the difference.

The staff were excellent. From the valets to the front desk to the wait staff in the restaurant. Wonderful stay!

Staff was not friendly. We had asked for a late check out, was told we had one, but was never put into system. Front desk unfriendly at every encounter. Rooms nice, but hotel feels a bit dated. Feel it is a 4-star hotel, not 5 stars.

Great one night stay at the Townsend Hotel. Flight arrived late but still serve full restaurant menu in room service until late -- branzino and ceasar was delicious. Great location right in town center and quite. Will be back.

Everything in this hotel was great except the service in the restaurant. We went for a brunch and the service was so slow. When we asked about our food the waitress replied “ I put the order but I don’t cook them!”. It sounded rude. It took almost 40 minutes to get our breakfast. We asked for some toast but she said it comes all together.
