Lovely Zen themed room, comfy bed, comfy pillows and lovely quality quilt. Lovely hot water and high pressure water. I got a lovely room on the GF...no complaints for the money I paid....but no evening food served as restaurant after breakfast is shut during non event days...so be prepared to get ubers or deliveroo etc as no restaurants within walking distance...but if you have a car you’ll find plenty of restaurants fairly close by. ...only Breakfast served.

Hotel stank of cannabis. AC didn't work. Lift didn't work either (not good for a disabled person) the hotel is very dated and in poor condition, car park is full of potholes.

I encountered issues that I don’t feel were resolved at all. Communication between staff isn’t great. 1- Keycard would often stop working so I’d often have to walk back to reception. 2- TV wouldn’t connect to the internet at all, and would often lose access to basic channels. 3- I had to push for my room to actually be cleaned after 6 nights (despite the policy being every 4 nights. When it was only the bed was made and dirty cups etc were just left. 4- The locks were changed during my stay, and no care was taken during the change. Sawdust was scattered all over my clothes. Nothing was offered to rectify this. 5- no food is available outside of breakfast which isn’t good enough.

The car park was unappealing: skips and lack of maintaiance. The room also needed maintainance, sliding window screens interlocking edges coming off, chipped tiles, dripping tap, mouldy silicone around bath, extractor fan not working, window not closing fully. Otherwise clean room, comfortable bed. Cramped as a double and only 1 chair which was upright dining style. I expected better for the money.

It was a very good experience. The staff were friendly. The only problem I had was that the bar closed at 10pm. My friends and I had to leave the bar at 10pm when it closed.

I thought the staff at breakfast were quite rude not very friendly especially considering they knew we were in an unfamiliar place. There was a half eaten chocolate bar from the people before us in between the beds on the floor which made me think the rooms were definitely not clean

Chewing gum stains on bed side table, someones hair all over the shower tiles (short, black ones - i've got long blond hair) and mould all over the edge of bath, grouting and where the roof and tiles joined. This hotel was one of the dirtiest places I've ever had the misfortune to stay. I booked this as I wanted to take a short amount of time off my drive back home from Manchester airport after a late flight. I'll never make that mistake again. It is so outdated and dirty, it made my skin crawl. Next time I'll brave the 5 hour drive home!

I'm really surprised this hotel gets some bad reviews. The bedroom and bathroom were very clean. The shower was lovely and hot and good water pressure. The TV was large and worked well. Absolutely no problems at all.

Shocking. The trim is really dated and nothing like those pictures online. The room was dirty with 1970s style furniture. No USB charging, no working radio. Doors and bathroom floor was dirty and tiles cracked on bathroom wall

Cannabis fumes throughout the bedroom corridor. Security guard stood right behind you when checking in. Shouting and commotion throughout the Saturday night there, with banging on my door in the middle of the night, which was terrifying. Room was shockingly bad and was in need of condemning. It was 30-40 years out of date and was battered. Spoke with some of the people staying there and it’s used extensively as a place of asylum and refuge. The entire place is run down and is more like a run down hostel than a hotel. This was the worst “hotel” experience of my entire life and in my humble opinion the place should not be advertised as a hotel. It has taken blood, sweat and tears to obtain a refund from Britannia Hotels, who have been so un-cooperative with my booking agents, Hotel.Com. It’s been a truly terrible experience for me and I would advise everyone to stay well clear of Britannia Hotels. On a more positive note, I would like to commend Hotels.Com for assisting me in getting justice and a refund from this shady outfit and for that I am truly grateful.

The hotel was nice and comfortable, but the bed was very lumpy, and the pillows were too high for me to sleep on. The room was to light as there were no blackout curtains and I found it very difficult to sleep. Breakfast was unfortunately awful, sausages and bacon were very rubbery, was only fried egg no scrambled and only cereal choices were corn flakes or rice krispies. On a positive note the staff were outstanding, very accommodating and very helpful. Had a gig on Friday night so was never planning to stay that long however I was booked for the Sat night as well. Spoke to the staff and they very happily arranged for me to stay on the Sat night as well even though the hotel was very full. Room was clean, no issues with anything in that aspect

From the outside the hotel looks tired and unwelcoming, inside the decor is very 1970s and it had a slightly menacing and hostile feel to it. I suspect it may be used to house people rather than just as a hotel. The bed wasn't massively comfortable and I was woken by the fire alarm at 3.30am due to one of the residents apparently taking a shower!

The first impression of the Bolton Britannia hotel is poor. Very tired and in need of a makeover. The approach road is potholed. However once inside it is much better, clean if not a little outdated. This goes for the rooms as well. The staff were all outside when I arrived,smoking. Nobody was at reception, when they did come in, they were unfriendly and barely spoke. Almost like i was an inconvenience. Not the best customer experience.

Down at heel hotel although location was good for a stopover. Room smelt (previous smokers??) despite attempts to hide this with room fresheners and was very cold. Awakened in the night to find water pouring through an air con grill in the room splashing all over the carpet and the electric sockets and switches. We were given another room but difficult to get back to sleep. Whole purpose of the stay had been to get a solid 5 hours sleep as we were flying in the early morning.

WiFi was chargeable, £7 pd. £12 Breakfast was awful, rock hard bacon at 7am, no fresh juice, the fruit juice machine was warm water. Glad I went out for a meal. Not even a spoon in the room. On a plus, the bed was comfy, in a quite location and there was entertainment in the bar n the lager was good.

Pproperty location was good. although i only stayed a couple of nights i had to go to reception three times as the key card did not work. this seemed to be problem that affected other guests. it would help if the lifts were sign posted as well

Hotel is old and in need of a complete updating in both decoration and equipment in rooms and main public areas. The interior fittings were either damaged or badly repaired and not cleaned and maintained properly. Front of house staff were excellent when asked for assistance with faulty key cards. Food in restaurant was satisfactory unless you arrived towards the end of service and found the soup cold because it had been turned off early and lack of full menu choice. This was 45mins before the posted end of serving time so full choice should still have been available. Spoke to a young couple on a 5 night stay who had finally got a decent room at the 5th one they were offered at around 2.30am. Would definitely not recommend this hotel to anyone who asks me.

This older small hotel has adequate rooms but some negative aspects, particularly the catering. We avoided the poor menu for dinner. It looked like school lunches. We paid £12 each for breakfast and that was a mistake. Poor choices, inattentive staff and items run out at 8.30am and never replaced. Fruit juice machine running water, yogurt supply empty, only fruit tinned peaches, mushrooms like bullets, no pastries, croissants or similar. Very overpriced. Staff did not care when asked. Too busy she said. Otherwise no heating on a cold night, bed mattress very hard, people shouting in room opposite till after 4.00am. No ability to contact reception to complain.

The fire alarm went off early hours couldn’t find anyone to see if we needed to evacuate stopped after 10 mins beds very hard Don’t buy the breakfast it was £12 each, no orange juice no butter just margarine new menu just told a full English which was awful rubbery sausage hash browns microwaved & soggy not nice at all don’t waste your money

We were pleasantly surprised at the cleanliness and state of decor throughout. Breakfast was also good, but perhaps not the freshest but then we were not among the first eating. In summary, very good value for money and we would definitely go again.
