Basic room but the twin beds were very narrow and quite uncomfortable.Neither of us could fall asleep in them so we headed for home at 4am.Parking at rear of hotel is by meter and we had to drive round in a circuit for half an hour before we found a space.You can only book 2hr maximum so I had to keep running back every 2hrs to top up the meter....not much fun.

I've stayed here before and knew it was an older property but very close to train and ferry. The room was a bit dated but clean and big, only thing missing would be a small fridge. I slept like a log. Breakfast was plentiful and I ate here both nights. Bar food was very good and very reasonably priced. Biggest asset is the staff - every one I dealt with was very friendly and helpful. I must mention the showergel. All the way home was wondering who smelt so nice and realised it was me and the hotel showergel.

Good location in the town centre and the ferry terminal for trips to the islands. Would have been a grand hotel once upon a time but is a little worn and dated now. Good standard fare food and beer in the bar. A little parking at the rear which a lot of the other Oban hotels did not have.

No one ever mentioned this property has scaffolding and construction. Blocked views of ocean, breakfast was a separate charge and parking is very limited. Excellent location. Definitely in need of a remodel, this is an old property. It does have an elevator, major plus.

Close to ferry terminal, railway station, harbour and shops. Hotel is tired and needs some money investing in decoration and furnishings to bring it up to date. Lift has to be the slowest, smallest lift I've ever used. Staff were all friendly and helpful, breakfast was good. Didn't use the bar or restaurant but seemed to be busy.

Wonderful room, absolutely spotlessly clean. Staff were fantastic, so friendly and helpful. Location is absolutely perfect for Oban town. Carpark is a bit awkward but usable, but there is additional parking within a few minutes walk. Breakfast depending on how busy hotel is you get buffet or table sevi both of which gave you a great start to the day.

Great location, all staff were exceptional . Good breakfast and evening bar meals. 24hr reception. Older property so a little run down in certain areas but kept very clean, would definitely recommend as excellent value overall.

Fantastic welcome from reception staff who were very friendly. Managed to find a space in the small car park at the back which was a . As I walked up the stairs, I was slightly worried as the carpets are extremely worn and tatty - coming away from the walls in places. However, upon entering my room, I was relieved to find it beautifully decorated and clean. The bathroom looked new and the shower was very powerful. I will note that the shampoo holder was broken, though. Having breakfast included was great - I headed down and unfortunately the lady seated me but did not tell me that there was a buffet so I did spend a few minutes sat there waiting for someone to take my order before I realised I needed to go in the next room and help myself. It would’ve been nice if she had explained that when she sat me down! Breakfast was wonderful, tasty with lots of choice and there was a proper coffee machine, which is always appreciated. Checkout was easy. I just dropped the keys and I was asked if everything had been okay. Will definitely be returning.

Hotel very tired looking. Room was booked as a 'superior room' which was a joke, bath faulty, shower screen broken and dirty, furniture ill fitting. All very old. Wouldn't stay here again.

Stayed here for one night and would not return. Public areas were dirty as was the bar. The electric plugs from tv system in bar was a joke!!! All wires twisted and plugged into adapter. Staircase was dirty and carpet was threadbare in places. Looked into the function room and it had not been cleared of glasses and drinks since a function five days earlier!!! Looked like the people had just got up and left with half drunk drinks lying on tables. Our room was very dated and the light switch for the toilet was a bit difficult to find. Finally located it behind the wall mounted tv!! Didn’t use the shower as it certainly didn’t look appealing!!! Cushions on bed were dirty. Electric wires hanging out of tv plug. We made a hasty exit without having breakfast!!! Would definitely not return to this hotel.

Reviews of this hotel are binary - people either seem to love or really dislike it. I stayed based on the excellent price. I was "upgraded" from a single to a twin room, quite possibly because the single room was one floor above a Christmas party and the twin was on the fifth floor. The room appeared to have been redecorated quite recently though the furniture seemed to date from the 1990s. Yes, some of the carpets on the stairs are worn. Yes, the floorboards are creaky and uneven (the building is centuries old!). Yes, there are bumps, scrapes and chips on the walls and doors. But - the bed linen was fresh and clean, the mattress comfortable, the shower powerful and hot, and the WiFi fast. What more do you want for the money? Oban has more than its share of "faded charm" Victorian hotels; I'd happily stay here again

Convenient for train station . Easy check in. Comfortable room. Good breakfast . Short walk to cafes, shops and pubs. Road is noisy out the front of hotel so choise a room accordingly if a light sleeper.

The hotel is an imposing building at a prominent location in Oban a short walk from bus stops and the train station. My room was comfortable with traditional furnishings. Although l had some occasional internal noise from other rooms l slept very well. I was at the front of the hotel but there was little external noise. The buffet breakfast had various hot and cold options with efficient service. Good poached eggs were cooked to order. The hotel has a bar that serves meals. All the staff l met were friendly and helpful. I would certainly stay at the hotel again.

The parking was very tight. When I asked at reception about alternatives the young man looked at the CCTV and told me there were "plenty spaces" . I\'m actually an Observer with the Institute of Advanced Motorists and there were no spaces without everyone having to reverse out onto the street. But it was his argumentative attitude.

The staff were amazing and so warm and friendly didn’t get the young man’s name on reception but gave us a warm welcome in arrival. When we went for dinner the night we arrived staff again were warm and friendly Jamie was such a lovely polite man and nothing was a bother. The room itself was a superior room but we certainly wouldn’t class it as that very dated furniture , and our view was into a grubby looking alleyway tho the bed was very comfortable. On arrival allocated 506 room one of the turret rooms with steps I tripped up on step the light was dim and could no see the steps went to reception and and this was rectified room 507 which was better standard and very happy staff were great enjoyed I stay at royal hotel only twice a year and they look after me very well and I will cotinue to keep going and recommend to my friends
On arrival allocated 506 room one of the turret rooms with steps I tripped up on step the light was dim and could no see the steps went to reception and and this was rectified room 507 which was better standard and very happy staff were great enjoyed I stay at royal hotel only twice a year and they look after me very well and I will cotinue to keep going and recommend to my friends

Carpark is a bit awkward but usable, but there is additional parking within a few minutes walk. Breakfast depending on how busy hotel is you get buffet or table sevi both of which gave you a great start to the day.

Value for money, facilities were just what i needed. Breakfast was super, excellent selection of items, well cooked and tasty. Staff were very polite. I've stayed here before and will stay again.I would recommend.

Fantastic welcome from reception staff who were very friendly. Managed to find a space in the small car park at the back which was a . As I walked up the stairs, I was slightly worried as the carpets are extremely worn and tatty - coming away from the walls in places. However, upon entering my room, I was relieved to find it beautifully decorated and clean. The bathroom looked new and the shower was very powerful. I will note that the shampoo holder was broken, though. Having breakfast included was great - I headed down and unfortunately the lady seated me but did not tell me that there was a buffet so I did spend a few minutes sat there waiting for someone to take my order before I realised I needed to go in the next room and help myself. It would’ve been nice if she had explained that when she sat me down! Breakfast was wonderful, tasty with lots of choice and there was a proper coffee machine, which is always appreciated. Checkout was easy. I just dropped the keys and I was asked if everything had been okay. Will definitely be returning.

Convenient for train station . Easy check in. Comfortable room. Good breakfast . Short walk to cafes, shops and pubs. Road is noisy out the front of hotel so choise a room accordingly if a light sleeper.

Pleasant hotel, ideally located , a stones throw from the harbour and all amenities, easy walking distance to the same. Car parking was available ,just managed to squeeze in next to the 4x4's!! Room was good ,bathroom was excellent , breakfast was very good , so all in all no complaints.

The hotel is an imposing building at a prominent location in Oban a short walk from bus stops and the train station. My room was comfortable with traditional furnishings. Although l had some occasional internal noise from other rooms l slept very well. I was at the front of the hotel but there was little external noise. The buffet breakfast had various hot and cold options with efficient service. Good poached eggs were cooked to order. The hotel has a bar that serves meals. All the staff l met were friendly and helpful. I would certainly stay at the hotel again.

I've stayed here before and knew it was an older property but very close to train and ferry. The room was a bit dated but clean and big, only thing missing would be a small fridge. I slept like a log. Breakfast was plentiful and I ate here both nights. Bar food was very good and very reasonably priced. Biggest asset is the staff - every one I dealt with was very friendly and helpful. I must mention the showergel. All the way home was wondering who smelt so nice and realised it was me and the hotel showergel.

Our trip to Oban was for a family funeral so we were focused on that and we were lucky enough to get a parking space in the small carpark. The inside of the hotel was slightly tired as it’s an older hotel but it was very clean. The breakfast was excellent and the staff were very well organised, the young waiter was nice and smiley. Cappuccino was brilliant 👌

Room and Breakfast were satisfying. For the evening meal I would recommend to go to one of the many good / excellent, also some for snaller budgets, restaurants around the harbor. Fish&Chips was okay, but frozen and fried.

I had a lovely stay at The Royal Hotel Oban the first room was a bit tired but look past that and appreciate how clean it was bed towel tip top. The second room was very clean also bathroom had been upgraded very nice. Staff were all very helpful but the creme del a creme breakfast a lovely selection of very well prepared food if anyone finds fault could you ask them what they have at home

My partner & i were in Oban for a few days decided to stay an extra night, clean room but very dated,£116 room only for one night, much better options in Oban for the same price or around £20 more, The staff were very helpful we couldn't fault them.
