Mercure Perth Hotel

Inside the main reception is beautiful, with the full workings of an old water mill on display and underground water viewable from glass floor panels. We stayed on the cheap side which is the newer addition to the original building, but in a dated room that could certainly use a revamp but was more than adequate for our stay. The bed though was the hardest mattress ive ever stayed on, and the two choices of pillows were not to my comfort either, one being massively bulky in height and firm, the other being softer but filling was lumpy. I didn't mention to staff who im sure would have found me an alternative pillow or a softer bed topper for our 2 night stay, but they definitely need new pillows.

The property was just OK. No lift so it was difficult for my friend to get up the steps to the second floor, the Parking was just passable, the beer was a bit on the expensive side and there was no shower mat for the strip in bath tin and it was slippery.

Conveniently located in the centre of Perth. Limited parking in main car park but there is an overflow car park less than one minute away (not the pay and display one). The listing for this hotel states that there is a lift but on arrival we were advised that there is no lift to upper floors which is not ideal when you have mobility problems. Breakfast is standard fare and you are able to squeeze your own oranges. Staff cleared away all the food at 9.30 am on the dot without asking if guests had finished (I hadn’t). A minor irritation was that the hot tap on the bath seemed to be disconnected/isolated. A bit of investment in the bathrooms would make this a nice hotel.

An interesting conversion of an old mill so the building had character but lacked some modern amenities such as aircon and a lift. Nevertheless, our room was spacious and comfortable with 6’ bed and a bath. The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. Limited parking in front of the hotel but a large overspill car park about 60 yards away. The location was ideal - right in the town centre.

The staff was fantastic. The restaurant and lobby bar were lovely. Walkable to everything worth seeing and doing in Perth.

The hotel is not really suitable for anyone with mobility issues as there is no lift. They do have some rooms on the ground floor so make sure you mention any issues beforehand. We forgot to say I walked with crutches and were allocated a room on the 2nd floor. When we went back to reception the girl tried to give us a room on the ground floor however the room was being renovated. As we were there with another couple we swapped with them but this was still on 1st floor and lots of stairs! We were given a voucher for a drink each from the bar but on checking out it looked like we had been inadvertently charged for them. Other than this the hotel has lots of character which we love but sadly we wont be back due to lack of facilities for disabled guests.

Hotel was comfortable and clean but the room condition was tired and could do with a freshen up. Pleasant staff. Nice bar, restaurant shut (on a Saturday night?) but you could order food in the lounge. Very annoying was having to pay for public car park as the hotel car park was full with cars that quite obviously were not hotel guests. We watched people arriving in their cars, parking, then going and doing their shopping. Hotel should have a system of ensuring only guests can park in the hotel car park.

Parking situation weird - it's a free-for-guests car park in a sea of paid-for car parks - but it's not monitored, so Everybody and their uncle tries to park there to save on parking fees. Staff nice but the hotel is WORN OUT. There's no other way to put it (Unless you want to say "threadbare"). The carpets are worn, the furniture is worn, the public spaces are worn, the guest bedrooms are worn. If the bedroom had been in a B&B any self respecting host would have replaced the worn-down-to-the-backing carpets, would have replaced the flaking pleather on the desk chair. Accor on the other hand says this is perfectly acceptable and thinks if you're fool enough to stay here it's only what you deserve. Expedia (and others) mention the hotel has ac in the rooms. It doesn't. The windows only crack open a little so in warmer weather (ie last night) it's just stuffy. Opening the window also means you get to hear all the goings on locally - including a woman Bellowing to her boyfriend (?) to "give me my money"for half an hour in the early evening. Followed by a 1am chorus of a gang of folks yelling at each other about somesuch or another - you could hear windows in the hotel slamming shut in response lol. Yeah stay away, it's not worth the aggro.

The hotel was just ok. The room.was very tired looking and the bathroom tiles must have been painted years ago and the paint was flaking off very badly. The room was clean enough but a few hairs and dirty marks had been missed.

The toilet was extremely dirty and the bath/shower literally smelt disgusting at first use. Service was okay however once when I called the reception and asked if they could bring a knife and fork, the lady m refused and hanged the phone on me. The other days, they did do it, but this one day they didn’t… Not to mention my room was not cleaned not even once even after requesting it to be done. For context, I was there for 5 nights

Lovely place, very central. Adapted room, very hot. Also, smelt of stale urine, although the room was very clean. Parked in 1 of only 2 disabled bays and in the morning had to ask reception to get a car moved (not disabled) from the bay next to ours as we couldn't get into our car. Bit disappointing.

My room was tired. In need of a new carpet that was thread bare, furniture worn and decoration filthy. Even the stairway carpet was threadbare in places.

It’s an old water mill with a stream running under the bar /lounge which can be seen via glass viewing windows in the floor. Unfortunately there is an awful damp fusty smell in this area making it quite unpleasant to sit in. Also safe in room broken and unusable, kettle lid broken meaning it doesn’t switch off automatically. Hotel is very tired looking and in need of an upgrade.

Very run down. Walls dirty, furniture damaged. Cracked tiles and mirror in bathroom. Carpets worn through Breakfast was under hot lamps and clearly had been out a while - all rubbery Staff all very nice and helpful

Room dated , bed not comfy , tv was dusty and the bath was grubby looking . Breakfast wasnt worth the cost . Bacon was practically raw . Was uncomfortable asking for well cooked as chef looked unapproachable.

First, the good points - very central with free parking, generally very clean, reception staff welcoming and pleasant. I also feel, given the original use of the building, the features in the reception area are lovely. The bad points -We have stayed here before but it was quite some time ago and it shows in the general appearance of the hotel. Furniture in the bedroom and sanitaryware in the bathroom are all well past their sell-by date. The bath panel was damaged and shabby and silicon around the bath disgusting. None of the pillows were comfortable. The room was quiet but given the noise from above when we dropped our case off earlier in the day, I suspect there was no one in the room above the night we stayed. We didn’t use the bar or restaurant so cannot comment about either. Our stay was not expensive and the hotel served it’s purpose but it is in desperate need of an overhaul. Such a shame as it has such potential.

Location was good, hotel was rather dated with several things in poor condition. The WiFi did not work at all

Staff were fine bedroom ok for a one night trip but dated.Facilities OK.However had the worst nights sleep I have had in any hotel.The floor board creaked excessively every time there was movement in the room above it sounded like a herd of cows.You could hear the use of the toilet. the creaking continued with other residents using the toilet and turning in their beds which generated the floorboards .Floorboard in the corridor upstairs and on our level were the same when anyone passed.Also couple in room next to us and almost above us were talking and you could virtually hear every word this talking continued until 4am .It is not the residents fault who were moving and those talking were talking normally not shouting.Soundproofing needs to be done and the totally excessive noise from the floorboards fixed.A hotel I shall avoid like the plague .With updating with TLC and fixing the faults could make this a good hotel

Staff are lovely but the rooms are tired and needing attention. There is zero sound proofing. It sounded like the person above us was in the room with us. Could hear everything and I mean everything! Not pleasant. Hardly slept.

Hotel room was clean if a little dated. Staff helpful, attentive and friendly. WiFi virtually non existent which let the stay down.

The building and reception/bar area are fantastic. Staff were great too. However, the rooms badly, badly need modernising and redocorating. Nice hotel but let down by the room itself.

Stay was really good the staff couldnt do enough to help really friendly people

We have stayed here before. We booked through Expedia and opted for the Privilege room. When we arrived to check in we were told that there were no Privilege rooms available. They only have 2 apparently. The receptionist who was also the duty manager said that there was nothing she could offer us and that we should take it up with Expedia. We suggested that she had to resolve the problem at which point she became very defensive and left the reception area for some minutes. When she came back, she offered us a couple of complimentary drinks at the bar. We accepted and got on with our stay. Had she owned the problem from the start and offered some form of compensation an awkward situation would have been avoided. Simply to shrug and blame Expedia was not the way to handle the situation.

Good hotel but the Wi-Fi connection was really bad. As I was on a business trip and needed to work during my stay, I had a really hard time with it. The staff was amazing! 5 stars to Kerri.

Staff were excellent could not fault the hotel

WiFi was awful I tried it in several rooms hard to work from there for Business travellers? The Spanish receptionist was very helpful as were the rest of the staff in the restaurant dinner and breakfast except the check out receptionist who seemed upset that I had interrupted her chat with a member of staff slightly rude! Needs a refurb noisy thin walls and windows poor condition so you can hear everything outside.

We stayed 2 nights April 2025. The hotel is central and convenient for almost anything you'd want to do in Perth. While the hotel is clean and comfortable enough, it's a bit dated. Examples are old shower heads and no electric points or charging points next to the bed. Bar service was a bit erratic / slow, with only a basic stock. Staff friendly and helpful though.

A lovely hotel with helpful friendly staff. Situated a stone throw from the city centre ideally situated for shopping trips or a night out at the local theatres. We will definitely be staying here again when we next visit Perth. Thank you all.

Lovely hotel with character not far from centre of Perth and good value for money and free parking

Breakfast was poor ,went for breakfast around 9.50.hot buffet no black puddi g ,no fried eggs,no brown bread,no yoghurt, no decaff tea,oh and scramble egg not very appealing

We found that noisy parties going on after midnight were unnecessary. The dining facilities were terrible possibly due to the catering being fixated on parties. We dined on the Friday expecting a good meal based on the prices and were served very greasy fish and the potatoes were powdery obviously made from a powder but not correctly prepared. The standard of the food would shame some lower priced greasy spoon establishments.

Hotel is nicely decorated and staff were great and friendly. However food wasn't the best. We had dinner which was undercooked and didn't teste great.

Very well maintained older, charming historic building. Excellent breakfast buffet. Ate 2 delicious dinners and thoroughly enjoyed the desserts. Try the dark chocolate and peanut butter parfait. All staff were friendly and professional.

Our room was lovely, massive bed very comfortable, 2 chairs bath and shower very clean, no shampoo or body wash, unfortunately to late to ask when already in shower, breakfast i will not be having again no beans,no eggs fried or scrambled, bacon was dry and fatty, sausages ok as were mushrooms, plenty of continental options but that not my thing, toaster takes forever.
