The bed was huge. The parking is extremely limited, so I would not expect to get a spot.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay! It is an older hotel- so as expected some things were quite well-worn. Note- VERY limited onsite parking. We parked in the secure lot they directed us to that was a 5-10 minute walk away.

Parking was a little bit of an issue but otherwise everything else was great

The Royal Highland is in central Inverness, close to bars, restaurants, and the train station. The hotel restaurant was surprisingly good, and the staff were quite helpful. However, the hotel is sure showing its age and could use a bit of refreshing. Also, though having parking, it is VERY limited with just a handful of spaces - good luck getting one.

They advertise free parking but they only have 8 spots that are first come. Had to park down the street in a paid lot.

The location is good but seemed like there was a lot of neglect for the rooms and amenities. Elevator was broken, rooms seemed dingy, parking was confusing and not much of it.

Clean room and comfortable bed. Great location beside railway station, but quiet. Located in the heart of the old town. Breakfast was adequate but the coffee terrible. Elevator is old & creaky & door is stubborn on opening.

This property was close to restaurants, bars with music, Leakeys Book Store and a market. We had a wonderful time. Parking lot is small. Beautiful old hotel!

Lift out of order, nor advised when booking

A lovely centrally located property conveniently located next door to the train station. Suffered from a broken elevator for the duration of our stay, which was tremendously inconvenient.

Clean, comfortable and convenient to travel, shopping and food. I'll definitely return.

Creaky floors, rotten windows, one thin pillow and exterior noise including glass bottles being thrown into a bin outside resulted in a sleepless night. Showerhead was also very unsanitary and the water seemed to pulse. Elevator was a safety hazard. Don’t recommend unless you are prepared for a very sub par experience.

Very old and dated room with a misty smell and grubby curtains , carpet and bedding . Not pleasant having to hear every sound from the room next door , To charge £20 a night for a dog is downright extortion , we travel a lot and never ever have we known a charge like it . We won’t be back

Clean room, helpful staff, warm in the room. A room in another hotel was cool to cold despite requests for heating none was turned on

The outside of the property is all worn and looks very run down. When given our first room it was on the 3rd floor with the lift been broken. Got to the room and it was freezing the window was drafty and the walls were all cracked the shower was mouldy and did not even have a shower. When I phoned to change rooms the woman was so nice and said we would be moved to a better room when we got back from being out. I then got a phone call from another woman on reception telling us to get back now to sort it out before letting me speak she ended the phone on me which is very rude . When we got back she said we should have told her instead of phoning to complain. Our second room was not much better still drafty window and bathroom had cracked tiles and was mouldy in parts too. Only good thing was the dinner staff were very nice and we had no issues there. Over all stay was awful and ruined our time away now understand why people say you should read reviews before staying places.

Room was very "tired" with mold in the bathroom.

This hotel was great. The staff was accommodating. The rooms were clean and comfortable.

The location is good next to the station and the hotel has character. However there was a lot of noise from outside the room, including the cleaners vacuuming the corridor at 0745 on a Sunday morning. We stayed two nights but the room was not serviced by housekeeping, apparently reception should have explained that a note has to be hung on the door for the room to be serviced, but that information was not passed on and was not written down in the room. The room was in the mid-pricing point, so I expected better service and less noise.

We stayed for a night. This place was perfect, right in the middle of town and right next to the train station. Rooms were clean and tidy.

Lovely place. Pleasant staff and quiet room. Huge bath tub for my very tall son. I felt very comfortable at the Royal Highland Hotel.

Convenient location next to the train station. Room was tidy. Double bed is awfully small for two people, but we made do. Really our only complaint is that the room was hot and hard to get comfortable.

Room was very small and faced the very noisy street. Floor seemed to be missing parts and made squeaking sounds throughout. Unfortunately, the lift was still not working and no one available to help with luggage. I saw other seniors like myself dragging their bags up and down the stairs. I did appreciate the staff member who did take pity and brought up my suitcase, while I carried the other bags.

Quite possibly the smallest broom closet I have ever stayed in. Likely because I booked through expedia that we got the smallest room ever. The window would not open to let in fresh air. Very stuffy and warm at night, and thats saying a lot for Scotland.

The location was great and the bed was comfortable. The hotel needs some updating, but is charming. The shower was a little weak, but adequate.

Convenient location. Some rooms face directly into the train station. Facilities functional but don’t look too closely.

Great hotel! Only issue was the shower wasn’t ideal at all. Our room didn’t get hot water in the shower, and when we got hot water then it barely came out of the spout.

Our first room was very spacious and airy with a comfortable bed. The bathroom was spotless and roomy. The second room was much smaller and the bed wasn't as comfortable as the first one. It overlooked a noisy passage way where bottles were emptied and people trundled their suitcases. The hotel in general looked a little tired and in need of an uplift.

An older property in the heart of Inverness adjacent to the station (it was built by the railroad back in the 19th century). Room was small, and there is no AC, but I was traveling solo, and it had a fan.

TV was not working, told receptionist on the first night. He came to fix but couldn’t. Said it will be fixed the next day but no one came. Told receptionist (different one) the next day about TV again, she was unpleasant. I told her the hotel review will not be good, she said sure go ahead, did not offer any apologies! Hotel was old and tied, windows were painted shut, room size was good, location was good

I paid nearly £300 for a one night stay (more than I usually pay in the City of London) because it is right next door to the railway station and we were catching a train to Edinburgh early the following morning. I checked that it had a lift as we were travelling for 3 weeks hiking and camping as well as visiting cities so would have heavy cases to manoeuvre. The most positive word I can use to describe the member of staff who checked us in is ‘disinterested’ and It was only when I asked how to find the lift that he said that the lift was broken and that we should use the stairs. No offer of help was made even though my husband and I are obviously older, I had to ask for it. He said he would bring the bags up at some point. As we were leaving our room 30 minutes later we met him on the landing, he just put the bags down where he was, turned around and went back downstairs without a word. The corridor outside our room was being used as a store for linen bags. When we arrived they were all closed up but by the time we went down for breakfast they had all been opened up for the housekeeping staff to use. The corridor itself was in a very poor state. The room was clean, but very dated and the paintwork in the bathroom definitely needed some work. I’m not sure if health & safety law is the same in Scotland as in England but if it is, the bathroom blind in the bathroom is illegal as it doesn’t have a chain safety clip fitted.

A friend and I flew into Inverness for a few days. We chose this hotel as it within our budget, close to our tour meet up location and it was within walking distance of everything else. Our room was clean and bigger than we expected. We flew in late and the next day while we were out, housekeeping stopped in and cleaned without us having to ask or put the sign on the door. While in our room, it was so quiet! The morning that we checked out, we were waiting for a “Safe Lyft” to the airport. The man working the desk ran outside to check if it was waiting for us, with no luck. He was able to wave down a taxi for us which got us to the airport on time! Our stay was amazing and if we go back, we’ll definitely stay here again. I’d recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Inverness!

Excellent location for train travel & catching tour buses. Lots of shops & restaurants in easy walking distance. Staff was very helpful & pleasant.

I recently stayed at this hotel and found the experience to be a bit of a mixed bag. On the positive side, the room was very clean and comfortable—exactly what you'd hope for when traveling. The bed was cozy, the space was well-kept, and overall, it provided a quiet and restful environment. However, the service left something to be desired. The team members working the front desk during afternoon check-in, as well as those at the bar and during breakfast, were not particularly warm or welcoming. Interactions felt rushed or indifferent, which was disappointing. That said, I do want to acknowledge the woman working in the morning—she was a bright spot in the experience. Friendly, helpful, and genuinely kind, she stood out from the rest of the staff and helped make the morning more pleasant. Overall, if you're looking for a clean and comfortable place to sleep, this hotel delivers. But if service and hospitality are high on your list, you might find the experience lacking—unless you're lucky enough to cross paths with the morning staff member who truly knows how to make guests feel welcome. Close to train station, attached, lots of great shopping and cafes/restaurants nearby.

Location very good. Actually liked the ambiance in the lobby. Rooms were OK. The staff seemed more interested in discussing their issues than giving us any attention on check in. When they speak with us, their friendliness was completely disingenuous. Checkout was barely acknowledged and no questions about our stay.

The biggest downside was the reception team, but just one individual, who firstly advised that I did not have a booking, then told me to prove I had a booking. Which I could have done instantly on my phone. But instead of resolving the issue, shooed me / told me to get to the end of the queue, very rude. 6 families later, the second receptionist found my booking in seconds. The rest of my stay was good. Other staff were nice.

I have never been treated so rudely as by the Receptionist here. Other things have compensated for this but it was a fine line !

A wonderful old hotel, so convenient for public transport users, especially the train. Well that was why it was built. It would always be my first choice of places in Inverness. If you wish to be negative you could say finding the upper rooms is not straightforward. To me, that's a great characteristic - you may find yourself coming down by the right or left side of the wonderful staircase - it's very bonnie.

Location, location, location!

You're right in the middle of everything Inverness. Very walkable. Great pubs and history. Room was olds school and comfortable. Not a great view. But hey, not every view in a city hotel is going to be awesome. Easily walkable to everything we wanted to see. Staff was super friendly and helpful. Great stay for us!

This is the perfect location when staying in Inverness. Everything is so walkable from shopping and dinning to the coach and train station. The staff were helpful and would recomend this hotel everytime.

The hotel is conveniently located just a short walk from the railway station, ideal for travelers exploring Scotland by train. Most bus tours for scenic excursions and city exploration are only 2 to 7 minutes away, allowing guests to easily start their adventures and make the most of their time in Scotland.

Lovely old hotel room spacious with everything you need. Breakfast very good, continental with a good selection. Can also get cooked breakfast different prices.

Very good location. Beautiful lobby. The breakfast was poor. No granola or muesli. The “black” coffee out of the coffee dispenser didn’t taste like coffee. No fresh cut up fruit. In the four weeks of travel in Ireland and Scotland it was hands down the worst breakfast.

Love this property wish we ate in the dining room tonight not just one because it was so good. It’s great to be near so many things especially the train station.

We selected this property due to its location to the train station. Close to everything we wanted to see and do. The breakfast was wonderful. We had one dinner at the hotel and it was excellent. I would have rated the entire property excellent except the lift wasn’t working and we climbed a lot of stairs with luggage. Other than that - I’d stay again

Very average room small but clean. Conveniently located at the train station. There are better or less expensive hotels in the area. Breakfast was very basic. Do not recommend.

Noisy corridors, rooms in poor condition, not enough tea and coffee. There was no ‘fragrance’ around the hotel which enhanced perception it’s dirty. Staff were ok, sometimes felt an inconvenience. Breakfast was diabolical in terms of quality & price. If there are alternative options in the area, try them before here

Grand old hotel with magnificent staircase. We enjoyed the breakfast, afternoon tea and cocktails in lobby. It is right beside the train station and very convenient location to catch bus to airport

Some of the best accommodating staff we have met. The reception desk people could not have been better. Restaurant was also very good.
