ibis Carlisle City Centre

I have rated this as a budget hotel. It is on a par with a travelodge. Its basic and clean and does the job. It is in a good position, easy walk to city centre attractions and restaurants its 5 mins to the railway station. My son and i had a family room with a double and single bed. Its not clear from the listing that parking is availble free but you validate it at reception. I made the mistake of paying in the car park on arrival, as the signs in the car park say!

We had a clean compact room with friendly and accommodating staff. The hotel has a large car park in a handy location for the city center.

Decent city centre accommocation. Car park difficult to find because the bit of street it is no-entry from one direction, and there is another huge car park on the same street.

Perfectly adequate for a short stay. Pleasant staff, nice lounge bar. Free parking, great location.

Perfect for a short overnight stay. Clean and tidy, great breakfast for £8! I booked after 11pm and arrived at 1:30am as I needed to break up a long motorway journey. The 24hrs reception meant no problems.

This hotel is very conveniently located in the centre of town. Check-in was swift and efficient. Our room had a terrible view of a roof top. Personally, not a fan of laminate flooring in bedrooms, prefer carpet. The T.V was small and not great, and the room had no desk or chair, it was a bit small and a bit spartan. However, the beds were pretty comfortable with nice bedding. The bathroom had a few issues, like the extractor fan not working and the toilet not flushing too well. The quality of sound insulation in the room was really good though and it also had a good heating/ cooling system. We liked the reception area, lounge and bar and the breakfast was decent, albeit items were not replenished sufficiently. Overall, although I have poked a few criticisms at the hotel, it was a very decent price, and it did the really important things well, so, for the price, I can't complain.

The Staff is absolutely incredible! If you are okay with bare-bones accommodations and are more interested in service, this is the place for you. The downside is that Travelocity has some amenities listed that are simply not in the hotel. There are no laundry facilities, only a laundry service that has to be paid for. Additionally, there were three clubs and a strip club next door. Bass could be heard till 4 am ALTHOUGH they do offer earplugs of average quality.

Dirty towel marks on it so had to share my husbands as there was no one about to complain to, I would expect to be able to have a coffee when I arrive and one in morning but unfortunately 1 drink each and to pay £75 I would expect that

Hotel is lokking a little ropey around the edges. The carpet on the corridors was filthy and needs a good clean. The lift also was quite dirty. The room itself was clean but basic. The bed however was comfortable. There was no remote for the TV so had to operate manually. Breakfast was OK but nothing special.

Stayed here for 1 night on a Saturday. Right on the main street for nightclubs so it was noisy u til the small hours of the morning, followed by the clean up operation and lots of moving vehicles. The room carpet was disgusting, and there was a trail of blood running through the corridor for about 30 metres. Not a pleasant stay at all. Bed was comfy though, and the shower room did it's job!

The bathroom and bed linens were clean. However, the carpets throughout the hotel and in the room were filthy.

Room was dirty with ripped bedding. Air con did not work and room was very hot we had to leave the window open. Woken up at 2.30 am with people screaming outside until 4am. Dan in bathroom did not work so it was like a sweat box

There’s a night club immediately next to the hotel with people partying till 4am. Would not have booked if i’d have known, rubbish nights sleep

Everything was exactly as expected. Small rooms, but with everything we needed. Bed linens were spotless.

Good location, near the city centre and station. Free parking. Friendly staff. Room was an ok size but the bathroom was small. Unfortunately the room was noisy, didn’t seem like the window was sealed properly so could hear lots of noise from the bars nearby, despite using the earplugs provided.

Pros: Room was very clean if dated, check-in staff were nice, easy to get to from the train station Cons: on the strip with nightclubs/bars so extremely noisy with people/car doors/music until 4am on a Saturday night. The rooms don't have a/c so if it's warm, you can't shut the windows against the noise. We also had some fellow guests who were making loads of noise in the corridor until 4:30am (banging on the door to be let in to their room, loud conversations) - my sister somehow slept through it so I was unable to call reception but we were told in the morning that nothing was noticed on corridor checks - unsure how loud drunk men coming in and out of the lobby for hours were missed but there we go! I think this hotel would be fine during the week but I would not recommend for a weekend stay.

I reported in the checking in feedback that we encountered a very awkward member of staff when initially visiting check in. We were early and he would not let us book in without paying a fee. Whist I appreciate this is policy we haven’t had to do this before. In particular it depended in the past if the hotel was busy. It quite obviously was NOT busy. What really upset me though was the refusal to let me book my car on to the car park, despite the fact we would be checking in in just over an hour. The staff member was in my view being awkward. The following day he saw us checking out and was clearly amused and quite smug. I stay here quite regularly and have never had reason to complain. I will stay again when travelling with my wife but I do travel to Inverness every year for several days and when available I always choose this ibis for an overnight stop both ways. I was so infuriated with the check in experience I have booked alternate accommodation for my trip next year( end of July return early August). The smug look and gleeful smile from him the next morning justified my actions of the previous day. I know it’s just the actions of one man. But it does affect people and it affected me. I am a Accorhotels member and for the first time ever I have been let down. I must add that on my return to the hotel check in another young man greeted us and he was very nice and gracious.

The room absolutely stank of weed on the first night, turned up the ventilation system to clear it and it got worse. Was coming through the ventilation. Told reception in the morning, and they didn't care at all. Just said nothing we can do. The second evening it stank of cigarette smoke. cigarette butts on the floor in the corridors by the lifts. rubbish on the floor down the corridors. Excellent soundproofing to the street which was much appreciated but the door to the room might as well have been made of paper for all it did to reduce the noise of people shouting in the corridors at night. Every place has a bad day but from the reaction of the staff, this seems to be the norm.

In general areas carpets were filthy and very worn. Staff seemed inexperienced and the manager was extremely rude when trying to sort out a problem.

5 people arrived back at hotel 11.30pm Friday. Door keys would notopen door. Staff ignored us knocking on door. Could only get in when someone else turned up whose key opened door.

A very easy to use budget hotel in a usefully central position. Car-parking was very useful, if difficult to find at first. What spoiled it for us was the noise outside our first floor window, with late-night rowdiness and vomiting followed by a cacophany of morning deliveries summed up by the voice of a driver after what sounded like the collapse of a building saying 'well if they weren't awake before, they are now, haha!'

Stayed for one night only and very close to the railway station. Great number of places to eat in the close vicinity if you don’t want to use the hotel restaurant. All in all a great stay.

Sadly, if you book a room with the intention of sleeping soundly through the night and waking refreshed then the Ibis is not for you. The room, staff, breakfast and parking are all good. The problem is the Walkabout pub directly next door. Some nights it is open until 4am and at chucking out time, its patrons congregate outside for the odd fight and who can scream the loudest contests. I stayed on a Monday night when it was open until 3am and was woken up on several occasions. The same happened on a previous stay. Not the fault of Ibis, they try very hard in the circumstances.

Central location handy to train station and centre. Busy street at weekends but room was surprisingly quiet.... Great stay

Typical Ibis in city centre. No air con so if you want fresh air with an open window then youll have to put up with the lapdancing club next door and local pubs and clubs noise until 5am.... my advice stay away!

Great location. Walked easily to cathedral, Tullies museum, castle, shops. Staff was courteous, room neat and everything working well.

Stop off on way to Scotland Friendly staff, nice breakfast, good location for a walk into town. First impressions were of grubby corridor carpets but this did not effect our stay.

Average at best. The room was ok but very hot. The corridors were air conditioned the rooms like an oven. the food service poor and not great quality in evening the breakfast was ok. Parking was chargeable. The location didn’t feel that safe or secure. Would t stay again.

Carpets looks dirty, room was bit bad smell when we entered .management need to change the carpet of this hotel. Staff working in this hotel were excellent, very help full. Breakfast was great.This hotel is Very convenient for transport in the heart of Carlisle city.

Accommodation absolutely fine. The burger for dinner was so overcooked that not a single molecule of water remained, dreadful.

Not a particularly good welcome and breakfast was too much at £25!!! But otherwise was ideal for what we needed.
