Exeter Rougemont Hotel by Sunday

Nice stay overnight to go to a concert. Hotel is perfectly situated for the station across the road and for Exeter city centre. Staff were friendly, room was clean and comfy. Only issue we had was finding the car park which has a few spaces so call the hotel when you’re close. We ended up parking at the other Mercure hotel and walking over. I think it cost us £15 for the night. Good hotel, nice stay.

Good enough for the price. Clearly in need of updating. The shower, in particular, had trouble delivering hot water in the morning. Our second set of towels were hidden in the wardrobe. The toiletries were good, there was a kettle and the front desk staff very efficient. Parking was available and a reasonable price for the location. The hotel has the potential to be very good, but needs work.

From outside you are greeted by a busy car park (spaces seemed to be a premium) and very tired looking building, but what greets you inside is a very spacious lobby and very welcoming staff. The room was immaculate and stocked with a few essentials ie tea,coffee and soft drinks. Very comfortable stay. Breakfast was very nice, with a good selection of pastries and full english. Two negatives though...the lift being out of action was a pain as we were on the third floor.(we were pre warned lift out of action), And the bar service in the evening was very slow with a wait of 20 mins for a member if staff to show. The member of staff was very apologetic for the deley. Overall a lovely stay and would reccomend to anybody

Centrally located near shops and restaurants. Only minor hassle was that the elevator wasn’t working on the second floor. Drakes restaurant / bar OK if you are tired or in a hurry. Better options downtown a short walk away.

Hotel was wonderful however parking was limited and was allocated on first come first serve basis. Hotel is in the heart of Exeter Town so I had to pay £19 to park in the Station Car Park. Something that I shouldn’t have had to do.

The hotel was very well placed in the centre. However the parking was limited and quite expensive

The car parking was not good, it was very narrow. The staff was polite and friendly But I do not want to stay in a hotel or bar with a lot of dogs

The only issue I have is the expectation to pay for parking. I don’t think if you’re staying at any hotel you should be expected to pay for parking on top of a room charge!

Hotel is fine. However, car parking is limited. We arrived, parked and paid for the parking. Went out later and could not park when we got back. Had to pay for parking elsewhere which knocked the gloss off.

The room looked clean but yhere was an odour which unfortunately smelt of urine. The staff were very friendly and hard working. We were very plessed that we could open the windows which often isn't possible in hotel rooms. The locations was perfect.

Staff were polite and attentive but the room was unclean and tired.

The bedroom wasnt the cleanist. Marks on the pillows (they were claen though) the matress proctector was stained. The carpet was bare/worn in places. Tea/cofee stains on the wall near the bin. The room had an adjoining door to the next room and you could hear everything.

The hotel is located in a decent area as there is a local shopping centre close by and many restaurants/bars. However, the hotel is quite dated and unfortuantely was lacking in terms of cleaniness - I lifted up the bedsheets and saw a very filthy mattress. On the plus side, the hotel staff were very polite and helpful

Large hotel opposite Central railway station and a short walk from City Centre facilities and attractions. The common areas and my room had been lovingly restored and were spotless. Staff were also extremely friendly. The only downsides were not very thick walls between rooms, curtains that didn't shut all the way and a £5 charge to store luggage,

Staff were lovely. Cleanliness of the room was appalling. Dust came out the pillowed when touched so we didn’t even sleep under the duvet. Dust layers on things and under the curtains. The tap on the sink wasn’t secured.

Right from when we arrived at reception, everyone has has been extremely nice, the receptionist the bar staff the cleaners everyone, we couldn’t ask for. The room was lovely and clean, the bed was really comfy, the bathroom was spotless as was the room itself, we had tea and coffee making facilities, there was plenty of wardrobe space and hangers, just perfect.

Staff very friendly, rooms clean, bathroom was a little dated but in good condition and clean. Overall good stay

The staff were super helpful. The room was clean and carefully prepared. It’s right opposite the station with shops and busies right there. Staff let me leave my suitcase after check out so I could have a final day exploring. Excellent 👌 service.

Had a brief overnight stay here visiting the University. Room was clean if a bit warm. There was no air conditioning and on a hot night would have been uncomfortable. There was very little outside noise even though the hotel is directly opposite Central Station

Nice hotel, but the walls are paper thin at least on the first floor anyway. We could hear conversations in the next room. Well located in the city

The most uncomfortable bed I've ever slept in. The mattresses must have been decades old. The roll out bed provided for a child was so bad you would have been better off sleeping on the floor. Whole place is tired looking which is a shame as great location and nice old fashioned features. Please update and put in new beds!

It's a lovely building but a bit tired. Very conveniently place for the train station and the city centre. I also like it had car park. My only real complaint it the lack of sound insulation between the rooms. I could hear every word spoken in both adjacent rooms even the person on the other end of a phone call. I was kept awake by the sound of snoring from the room behind my headboard. It's as though the sound was amplified by the wall boards

I booked the room back in April and on arrival I was given a room on the fourth floor up in the roof. That day it was hot and the room was stifling the window only opened a tiny amount and there was only one tiny window. The air conditioning I don’t think was working properly as there was no relief from this and there was no fan in the room!!

Generally good, the room was a little tired with threadbare parts of the carpet and scuffs against the walls. But, clean and otherwise adequate. My room was next to a ventilation shaft, which was quite noisy.

In real need of updating. Bed was uncomfortable, rooms very hot and no a/c. Very tired in all areas. Bar - staff great, but such a weird layout. You sit on a bench, which is too low. Just odd

Super location, being that it's situated right in front of Exeter Central train station. However, the rooms are tired, and could do with a fresh coat of paint, if anything. There were two tiny moths I killed, I hate bugs, while I stayed there the one night. I heard the conversation of the room next door very clearly as well, so definitely not quiet or soundproof if you know what I mean. I had a 'privilege' room which meant nothing more than a free bottle of water, which should come standard if they cared at all.

A short trip to Exeter. Hotel was generally okay and adequate, however hotel is dated. Bed and pillows weren’t the best. TV in room is very dated. enough if the only thing your doing is sleeping overnight night, but not one to spend the evening in your room etc. No specific complaints, just a very average/economy budget hotel but in a need for a refurb and modernisation

Average...the hotel is very dated & musty. Bed had springs sticking into me. Very poor night's sleep as it was super hot (even though not hot outside) and very noisy with the window open.

Great location in Exeter. Very friendly and yet very professional staff. Good breakfast. Good value for money.

The duty manager who checked me in was rude, inconsiderate and unhelpful. It was not possible to charge a drink at the bar to my room. The restaurant was closed throughout my stay. There was a noisy function on during my stay and yet no mention of this function was made when I booked the room two days before. I was charged for parking within the grounds of the hotel. My window did not close fully on a very cold evening. There were no biscuits or other nibbles available in my room. The duty manager was rude when I asked for directions to my room and her information did not help me to find the room easily. All in all this is one of the worst nights stay I have even experienced.

The staff were super friendly and made the stay very comfortable and relaxing.

We were denied check in inspite of an active booking, staff at the reception were extremely rude and unprofessional. We were charged the full amount even before we arrived and then denied check in stating that 'Your booking has been cancelled' it ruined our holiday and we were hassled, all our plans spoilt. NOT RECOMMENDED to be honest and utterly DISSAPPOINTED.

Because we had train delays we were late booking in.Not a problem though The friendly receptionist was very welcoming. The bed was huge and after a very stressful day we had agood nights sleep in the most comfortable bed. Checkout was not until 12 noon so we had time for a quick visit to the city centre which is about a 5 minutes walk away The train station is just across the road so this is a very convenient place to stay

The staff were lovely but as check in was 2.00pm and I arrived about 3.15 I was disappointed to be kept waiting as the room wasn’t ready. I had booked a single room but, as I have mobility issues, I was dismayed to discover that the lift only went to the 3rd floor and there were 2 steep lots of stairs to get to my room. (No indication of this on the website!) The room was a nice attic room with a view of the cathedral and the staff carried my bags, but I quickly realised that I couldn’t cope with all the stairs for a 3-night stay. I went down to reception (no phone in the room) and asked for another room. As all the single rooms were on the 4th floor, I was eventually upgraded to a double room on the first floor. I didn’t book breakfast but discovered that there was an excellent option for a smaller breakfast to pay at the time. This was beautifully cooked and included tea/coffee and was very good value. The décor is uninspiring which is a shame, as the hotel has lots of interesting features, but every member of staff, I spoke to, were helpful and friendly. Be aware of this hotel if you have mobility issues and check with the hotel before booking. I was also disturbed by a welcome email ‘Hello! Greetings for the Day! We are delighted that you and your family have chosen our property for your stay.’ Why did they think my family had booked into a single room? Overall, a convenient hotel with lovely staff.

Most of the staff gave the impression of not wanting to be there. Lovely property with potential. Chairs in both our room and in the bar in desperate need of replacing or a very good clean. Slow service in the bar, overpriced.

Brilliant location a short walk to the centre, very comfortable room and late check out so no morning rush

It was a lovely hotel in a good location but consequently the area is quite noisy and the sound proofing between rooms is not very good.

Good hotel in the centre of Exeter, directly opposite Central train station, just a few minutes' walk from the High Street. Nice old, well decorated building. Clean room, newly decorated bathroom. All good, no complaints.

Lovely hotel, very helpful staff. Nice room. Sadly very noisy at the front of hotel with loud cars and drunken people shouting most of the night.

What a lovely hotel in an ideal position to explore the city centre

A good place to stay if you need to grab the train. Walkable in town and food options. Everything was sufficient. Slept well.

Directly across the road from Exeter Central Station. Very friendly staff. A floor-standing fan in the room that was very welcome. A good selection of hot & cold food at the buffet breakfast. Luggage storage before and after check-in/out.

Good value (for toom only) and superb location. Main let down was an overpriced and low quality breakfast. Hot food was luke warm and I expected more for a premium charge (£17!!).

Property was Okay. Evening meal was worse we have had in a long time. Do not order an evening meal. Hotel was cold.

Gorgeous historic building, great facilities and located right in the centre of city. The room was comfortable and clean. I highly recommend the buffet breakfast which was well stocked and great quality. Excellent value, we will definitely be returning when we're next in town!

My bedroom was good and the bathroom, though small, was very well appointed. A friend staying in another room had problems with noise from other guests. The hotel breakfast buffet did not offer a wide choice and did not seem particularly good value.

A fine turn of the century (c1900) railway hotel (right opposite Exeter Central and not far from Exeter St David’s, which is the main station). It is a short distance from the historic city centre and the cathedral. Elegant fixtures in the entrance and grand staircase; rooms nicely modernized. A good buffet breakfast selection. Altogether a very satisfying place to stay.

Generally good, bed comfortable, clean room but breakfast quality not great. Hot food counter was lukewarm and not kept supplied.

We had a privilege room. Good size room comfortable bed and lovely walk in shower. The corridors are very tired carpets and walls. We ate in the restaurant two evenings. Wasn’t very good. Didn’t match the description on the menu. Not the best

Arrived late to check in but the lady was very helpful and friendly. Can’t complain about anything. Breakfast was good and the hotel was clean everywhere.

Exterior and some communal soaces could use a little TLC. More importantly, great location, very clean rooms, friendly staff, good breakfast, will almost certainly be going back!
