Central location with on-site parking until 2pm following day. Quirky old historic building with character. Helpful staff who worked very hard. Good evening meal. No headboards on twin beds with gap behind making it difficult to sit up to watch TV. Breakfast choice either Continental, or Cooked, with no option to combine the two. No buffet, to reduce waste.

Bar next door to Hotel,amazing place with great staff, room was absolutely stunning, will definately stay again.

Parking was possible in our campervan despite the system not allowing a van. Only able to book it on arrival.

Has their own car park (chargeable) but that is open to others. The hotel has a bar and its own restaurant. The Quay is very close and has restaurants. The cathedral is very near as is the main shopping area. I found the hotel very pleasant to stay in

Lovely old inn, very close to Cathedral and city. They are having renovations done but that didn't impact on a very comfortable stay. We'll definitely be back!

The property is in the midst of a renovation and there was scaffold up and lots of workmen running about. My room was on the third floor and the old elevator didn’t inspire confidence! However, this didn’t interfere with my stay and the staff were superb. My single room was very clean and well equipped and quiet being at the back of the property. All in all, I’d stop here again and recommend it to others.

Charlotte at reception was so friendly, welcoming, and helpful! This is a great location for walking to the cathedral and the center of town, and the price is so reasonable. Parking is right behind the hotel and is also reasonable. This is not a fancy hotel, but the beds are very comfy. Our room had king size beds (two twins connected). The room darkens nicely at night. The best part of the in is the historic stone walk between the pub and the restaurant/inn. While this short walkway might be a challenge for someone with mobility issues (it is uneven and steep), you could avoid the walk altogether though - the hotel itself and the restaurant are fully accessible. In short, we highly recommend The White Hart for your visit to Exeter!

Nice enough hotel, but stay was spoilt by the smell in the bedroom. The mattress and duvet smelt of stale urine!

Lovely clean and comfortable rooms, close to the city centre. Would definitely stay again. Only disappointing thing was some of the breakfast staff really didn’t want to be there and didn’t have the friendliest manor.

The staff were helpful. The bed was ok and the shower was excellent. The rest of the bathroom was in poor condition, with peeling paint, noisy toilet and sink that didn't drain properly. The window blind was pretty grim (filthy and torn).The light over the mirror did not work and several bedroom lamps didn't either (apparently due to a power surge earlier in the day). The bathroom was also very cold, as the heated towel rail wasn't working. People sat outside the window smoking and the smell often came in, plus the walk to the room was very tricky with luggage, due to endless flights of stairs and heavy doors. Would have been great if someone could actually show to the room and maybe carry a case? Both dinner and the veggie breakfast were excellent. I believe the Inn is currently having renovations throughout and based on that, I would stay again, but defintely in a renovated room! Re parking £5 was very reasonable but as I was unable to collect my car by 2pm the following day, I had to pay twice (despite not checking in until 4.30pm). I would have liked 24 hour parking available from check in. All-in-all... definitely needs improvement in some areas but the renovations seem promising and the location was great, so will consider staying again.

Started badly as reception was unable to ‘tap’ my card from my phone so I had to rummage to find the real thing! They blamed the ‘new’ booking system. In room 101 the bathroom was poorly lit, had no mirror, over basin light didn’t work, no toilet roll holder, no toilet brush, basin taps had no indicator tops just holes where they should be. Window had noticeable black mould in the sealant. Bed was clean and comfortable, shower fine.

My room was filthy and very uncomfortable. The window wouldn’t stay open and the room was red hot. The fan was disgusting and never had been cleaned. The bathroom hadn’t been cleaned properly.

Welcoming, dinner was good, Bedroom & ensuite clean & warm. The mattress & linen was extremely comfortable - excellent!

I have stayed here numerous times over the past 25 years, sadly, over the past 4-5 years the decline has been huge. The quirkiness of the place used to be really appealing, breakfast used to be excellent and the long-time staff really friendly and helpful. Sadly the whole place looks in need of more than a little TLC. The first room we were given was dingy, dark, dirty and had net curtains with big holes. I asked for another room, which was a little better, but still one of the bedside lights didn’t work, the fan in the bathroom didn’t work, the linings to the curtains were in shreds, windows dirty inside and out. We gave the place another chance with this stay, but unless massive changes are made, this will be the last time we stay.

Hotel is in a good position for access to the city centre but the room was poor (108) carpets were rotting away in places, puddle in the bathroom from a leaking radiator curtains and window frames dirty and mouldy room furniture looked like it had been taken out of a skip. Music started around 02.00 from somewhere near and continued until 05.00. Bed and towels were clean and the staff were polite and friendly but wouldn't stay there again.

Location was good and the staff were nice, but the accommodations were worn and the place felt dirty. I would stay elsewhere if I return to Exeter.

Clean room and spotless bathroom. Rooms have been recently refurbished but, apart from appearing fresher am not sure they're an improvement on before. Rooms are generally low lighting which is fine for relaxing and sleeping. There is now no lamp or light near the desk area. Not great for laptop use. Coathangers in clothes hanging area are flimsy and easily fall apart.

You will need patience with this hotel... A lengthy wait to check in did not present me with a great first impression of this hotel, then the amount of information the team required from me which I had already provided when booking was annoying and the reason why the check-in process took so long and the queues formed. This hotel has lots of history, a wonderful mix of old and new, which was well presented if a little jaded in places. The room was well appointed yet in places dated in terms of upkeep and décor but it was clean. Noise, both internal and external, was a major issue for me throughout the stay; noise from the adjacent street continued into the small hours of the morning and I was woken early by the refuge collection. Couple this with internal noise, with thin walls between rooms making it possible to hear the lovemaking couple in the room next door; so sleep proved to be difficult and fleeting. Add to this the dated television which proved difficult to watch and the intermittent speed of the Wi-Fi which was annoying when trying to enjoy an online movie Car parking was not included and cost £5 per night. Located on the edge of the city centre however not that convenient for the railway stations both of which are a long walk away. This hotel could be so much better with little effort.

The room was clean and spacious, the staff polite and helpful and the whole place has certainly got some character. Place is a bit tatty but does the job. However - room next door is a noisy family with a baby. Walls are thin. Why place us next door in a near empty hotel?

Converted old building on main road. The small room was overlooking the street and not insulated from traffic noises and drunk customers. Ceiling creaked most nights by guests in the room upstairs. Neighbours were loudly chatting as well.

Quick easy check-in and professional. was Nice big room. Loved the wooden hanging rail in place of a wardrobe with space for your bag below which was one side of the bed next to a small desk with tea/coffee making facilities, but could have done with some more furniture and somewhere to put the rest of your clothes on. My husband’s clothes ended up in a neat pile on the floor as there was nowhere or any other furniture the other side of the bed. Bathroom was huge, but smelt a bit damp and the fan was sooo noisy we could hear them going on in other rooms during the night. Would be nice to have the bathroom fan on a separate switch as it’s not always needed, rather than an isolation switch up by the ceiling above the bathroom door. Luckily husband is tall and could reach the switch it on as it was off when we checked in. We didn’t eat there, but did have a drink in the bar next door which was nice. Check out was very quick and easy, even quicker than the check in. I would recommend The White Hart for nice central location, very clean rooms and professional staff.

Small but comfortable rooms. Bathroom large, considering room. Slept well. Very little interaction with staff so that was just ok, nothing to rave about. No AC, but temperature when window open mid July was very comfortable, but had to close windows so that seagull cries wouldn't wake us early. Temperature still ok.

Room felt recently refurbished - it was spacious, clean & a little bit cooky. Comfy bed, dreadful pillows. Room had a bath, which I love. No AC so it was pretty warm but the windows opened wide to let the cool night air in. Great location, reasonable parking (£10 overnight). I'd stay again.

Property was clean and mostly quiet, staff were friendly and incredibly helpful, overall great value for money and I would stay again. The only thing I did not like was the mattress, which was quite uncomfortable due to the springs being old and not working properly (incl there being a dip in the middle of the mattress where I'm guessing the majority of people would have sat).

Issue we had was we were on 4th floor and it had been a hot day (27C). The accommodation block had 4 floors and a flat roof. Barely able to open the window, no aircon, no fan, it was unbearable.

The reception staff were excellent and we were warmly greeted on our arrival. Room had everything we needed and the bed was very comfortable.

Thought the breakfast range was poor. Had to pay extra for beverages and no options for cereal, fruits etc. as a starter. Also understaffed. Went to use the lift one morning to be told by maintenance man that I would have to use the stairs to the 4th floor. I’m 76 years old and found this very difficult.

Spent one night here, taken about 30/40 minutes to check in. I was waiting at the check in desk, no one was around and i had never been before. Seen one staff member and asked for help, they turned around quite rudely she exclaimed "im going home"?? Did ask where i can go for help and got ignored!! Found the bar and asked for help there, another woman who was also a bit rude and acting as if they didnt want to be there and said someone will come down to help md if i go back to the desk. Another 10 or so minutes passed until a 3rd membef of staff appeared who was very helpful. On checkout, no one was on the desk again (about 7am) so i just left the keys on the desk and walked out worrying i would be charged for missing keys, which i thankfully wasnt! Dont think i would stay again due to the staff. The room overall was clean and comfortable, great location, and good value for money.

some staff were lovely others it was clear you were an inconvenience e.g another guest opened the door for me with my bags while staff ignored me chatting at reception. drinkers pub - so not good for single travellers unless your thing. I am sure great for groups. lift was out but can’t be helped smelt of cigarettes

Staff were very kind & went beyond the norm in printing out an entrance ticket for me , storing my luggage for 2 hours , even though they seemed extremely busy! Thanks so much to Louise & rest of staff for their outstanding service! Beverly. canada

The White Hart was comfortable & clean but maybe lacked a personal touch on checking in & checking out. We had to find a staff member, at both ends of our stay & the communication/instructions given, were very basic so we both felt that this is an area that could be improved on, to make the whole experience feel a little more valued & personable.

Fabulous location to walk into the centre. Photographs online do not do this justice. Good size room, quiet, very clean and staff are super friendly and helpful. Pub is lovely as well. 4 minutes to get into town and 6 minutes to get to the Quay.

Lovely quirky old pub, beams everywhere. Fantastic pub food, had a lovely steak, breakfast was the best I’ve had for a bit as well. All very reasonably priced, some parts of our room looked a little tired but very clean big bathroom with fantastic shower.

We stayed at the White Hart a few years ago and chose to do so again for its ideal position near the Quay and the shops. The property has been refurbished recently and our room was very good except for a very dodgy window (room 310) . The glass and frame had become separated on the lower sash making it quite dangerous to use. Breakfast options were ok but service was poor. Orange juice had run out at 9am ! and soya.milk took so long to come my tea was cold when it did. There was just one rather harrased man taking the orders , serving the drinks and cleaning the tables . The food came from the kitchen which seemed to be some way away from the dining room on an individual order basis. We waited 25.minutes. System needs improving. We wouldn't stay there again.

We had a great welcome to the hotel. Food was excellent service was excellent both evening and morning.

A 3 night stay. 1st night noisy outside and a bit inside. 2nd night less noisy 3rd night quiet The cooked breakfast was fine, but no cereals or pastries or juices offered. White Hart has previously included everything as a part of breakfast as there are various options.

Spent 2 nights here recently. Room was comfortable and spacious. On Sunday night we went to the bar and enquired about food and was told it was for parties only. No snacks available from the bar and also they had run out of red wine.
