Best Western Priory Hotel

Generally a good standard but parking is a struggle if you arrive when a function is taking place. Breakfast buffet was fine. Would definitely stay again.

Easy to find,short(ish) walk into town,quiet hotel (at least where we slept)nice breakfast facilities a "help yourself" didn't have an evening meal as we ate in town (plenty to choose from)if you didn't want a drink in the hotel bar there's a pub across the road "The Tollgate" plenty of outside seating and food available.A pleasant stay for our weekend.

Did not like the wedding party going on till mid night , with a heavy bass music, then ending with fire works. thanks a lot.

We booked to stay on a Saturday evening. Room 41 itself was pleasant enough. However it was incredibly hot and we could not change the radiator to enable it to be turned off. There was a lot of mould in the bathroom which looked like it had not been treated for a while and was an unpleasant experience. There were notices warning us that the water was incredibly hot, however I took a shower in the morning which was fine, but my partner followed immediately but there was no hot water left and she had to have a very quick cold shower. Another unpleasant experience. At Reception another guest was complaining he did not shower as the water was far too hot. The worst experience came from the function which was happening in the main part of the hotel. The doors and windows were open and the extremely loud music and party revelers accompanying singing meant we had to wait until it finished to be able to sleep. We could not concentrate on our TV viewing or reading. We could not open the window to cool the room due to the sounds. When we spoke to the duty manager he said it was within their health and safety limits - which I dispute as I struggled to hear him speak. Also he very rudely said what did we expect as we had booked at a hotel which has functions and we were lucky it finished at 11 instead of the normal midnight.The website mentioned the functions. However on re reading the website it clearly mentions ' a true oasis of calm and a tranquil environment. I totally disagree.

On first arrival to the reception ,was a very dirty carpet. then even though a young lady was at the desk, my husband had trouble checking us in, after having 4 mini strokes this year. Then our very dated and dirty room was not what we were expecting.

It was ok easy check in and out. Room was relatively dusty with cob Weber on lamp. Bathroom looked like it needed a deeper clean as had mould around seals and on ceiling. Also I had a disabled room which wasn’t need and thankfully not as the hand rail on the door poked as though it wouldn’t last much longer as there was a gap between the screws and door. Also had weird blood like stains in bathroom. Also the tv was very dated and wasn’t smart and the normal tv channels didn’t work as kept stuttering and cutting out. Thankfully had something I could plug in to watch tv. Though defiantly didn’t seem like a hd screen

Black mold in shower room, shower head blocked up with lime scale, shower water cold at night and around 80°C in the morning and no adjustment, carpet stained and dirty, mattresses worn out, bathroom towl rail stuck on and over heating the room, water leak in centre of the bedroom ceiling, condensation running down wall and damp to the touch on all other walls. Bedroom furnishings old and outdated, nothing PAT tested. Horrible stay, staff uninterested and unhelpful

Bathroom wasn’t very clean especially soap dispensers and bath… dust on skirting boards and doors. Stains on duvet and sheet

Staff were good, friendly and helpful. I was put in a room outside of the main building. Had a bit of a motel vibe. The room itself, a classic double.. disgusting!! Stains on the carpet, paint over the curtains and side of the tv. Units completely dated. Bathroom full of mould. Ceiling light fittings broken. Very poor dodgy repairs maid around the room. Main issue.. the room was freezing. They provided an extra oil heater in the room which I had to put on full next to the bed. The bathroom was like an ice box, even the floor was ice cold to walk on. The mould around the bathroom was disgusting. The room front door led to the path and grass area on the site. The door did not feel secure at all and let in air and light. I did not feel safe if I’m honest. Anyone could walk onsite and attempt access to the outbuilding rooms. I could hear conversations from the room next door which went on all night so I didn’t really get to sleep, the cold also didn’t help with sleeping. Maybe the rooms in the main building are a 3* but what I experienced wasn’t even rateable as a 1*. Before I left I had a look inside the kettle, what was growing in it was unidentifiable. The water must have been left in there for some time. Disgusting! In my view, that room was not fit for purpose but I had no choice but to use it as no other rooms were available and I arrived in the early hours of the morning. I spent 6h in that room. Never again will I stop there.

If it had not been for the biscuits being changed, we would not have known that anyone had been in there. The TV had limited channels and kept cutting out We had dinner in the hotel on the first night. It was dire. Terrible tough inedible lumps of chicken in the curry and the smallest piece of over-microwaved sea bass ever. Not at all what we would expect from Best Western

Late check in by porter was good , room was comfortable but little dated especially the bathroom Breakfast buffet , good choices but did not replenish beans whilst we were there ( 8.50 to 9.20 am ) and sausages would of been better slightly browned off a bit Breakfast room wasn’t the cleanest either, floor etc

The room was old and tired, the bathroom was in very poor condition, the shower sounded like it going to take off, the bath panel was cracked and poorly fitted, the soap dispensers we’re disgusting, the carpet in the main room was heavily stained, I can go on but you need to get this sorted.

No hot water. That’s all I’ll remember about the place.

A good stay. Only downside was gap in the bedroom window which you could put your hand through leading to excess traffic noise which was disappointing.

Sadly the hotel was very warm with no way to adjust the room heating. Windows could not be opened and even with this I could clearly hear the cars from the road outside. Also had a few things falling apart in my room and to top it off a lovely fire alarm went off at 06:50 to wake everyone up. Just to finish my stay, the check out computer did not work and advised to speak a staff member which took me ages to find anyone. Sadly think I will be looking elsewhere to stay on my next visit.

The Priory is a beautiful hotel from BW’s 1980’s nostalgia collection, and this one didn’t disappoint. Complete with original furniture, moody lighting, 8:30pm restaurant/room service close, creaky floors and single glaze drafty windows. You can tell they’ve worked hard to replicate the late 80’s look. They even provide a complimentary jar of parma violets and swizzels drumsticks! My only complaint is that I couldn’t get Ceefax on the tv (couldn’t get much else either). Well worth a visit if you grew up in the 80’s and enjoy a stroll along memory lane. Won’t suit those looking for something modern and comfortable.

well, on arrival, there was no hot water or heating in my room. The lady on reception was awesome and got a boiler engineer out as one part of the hotel was affected (which they didnt know about) - three hours later, the heating and hot water was back on, so was able to have a bath that night. The following morning, again there was no heatong or hot water., Reported to reception on leaving, who didnt seem interested. The toilet in my room had an intermittent fault whereby after flushing, the overflow would continually run for about an hour, then stop on it own, only to restart for no reason. This was really annoying as it woke me up multiple times and I had very little sleep. Eventually, I had to close the bathroom door and wear earplugs. Would not return.

We had room 54. Unfortunately it had an odd musky smell and we had an horrendous night due to the front door of the room banging due to wind that evening. The front door has what can only be described as too much room between the door and sill surrounding it so it is not a tight closing door. Nothing like a bad nights sleep when away.

heating did not work

I have stayed before, previously in the main house. This time i was in one of the lodges, detached from the main building. My problem wasn't with the hotel or staff, however the walls between rooms are very thin, my neighbour decided to have a 2 hour telephone converstaion that i could have joined in with! At 6.30am her alarm started to go off, unfortunately she had already left the room so it continued to sound without anyone there to turn it off.

The room was small, bed was uncomfortable, bathroom huge but tired looking at a bit dirty. Room was right next to the road, so very noisy. Hard to get around the bed, bashed my legs several times. But have stayed in other rooms before that were better!

Room ok if a little dated TV in room did not work, when reported to a member of staff they seemed nonchalant and didn’t care. Said it would be looked at tomorrow (after I left) I was charged for the stay again on checking in which I had to chase hotels.com & try to find a staff member in the morning that could eventually do a refund. Most unfriendly and unhelpful business that I have had the misfortune to stay at

Lack off staff on arrival, only one person serving at reception & the bar, had to hunt the person down to check in. Similar situation in the morning at breakfast. Hotel was like the Mary Celeste. Breakfast was overpriced for what it was.

One night stay for business - outside appearance of the property is good - nice gardens and terrace area. Check in us unmanned - with two self service consoles - the check in process was problematic as the console generated 3 room keys - i asked for 1 but none appeared to be programmed as there was no indication of which room i was in. I am pretty tech savvy but this process had me flummoxed! I had to hunt down a staff member to get a room key. Rooms were OK, functional, I stayed in one of the garden roms - nice towels though. The hotel provided tea a, coffee and biscuits and a jar of boiled sweets and palma violets - random! Breakfast we also good - plenty to eat - the usual faire. Check out - similar to check in - un manned - the checkout software asked if i wanted my invoice emailed - replied - yes - but the email address was wrong - did I want to change it? yes - but no option to delete the existing email address no member of staff around to ask. Conclusion hotel is OK but maybe need a little TLC in the guest rooms but the check-in check-out needs some work!

I stay in a lot of hotels for work. This has to be one of the worst I have stayed at. The automatic check in didn’t work, after eventually finding someone in the bar, they tried to tell me it was my fault and then charge me for a room I had already paid for. Very few staff at all, very poor attitude. Another couple I was with found a turd in their toilet bin (I kid you not). I don’t normally leave reviews, but please save yourself money and don’t stay here.

The room was adequate, for an executive room it was dated, shabby and in the old part of the priory which was uneven. The restaurant was pleasant and food was extremely tasty. For the price it was a shame breakfast was not included but the offering was really good The staff were amazing, really helpful, polite and could not do enaough for any guests. I would possibly stay here again.

Perfect for an overnight stay. A spacious, clean and well presented room. Friendly staff and good amenities.

No one at receptions during stay, must have walked through the reception 6/7 times. Room doesn’t have AC and the tiniest fan is provided, way too hot. Sat outside the bar area for 45 minutes without service even after telling staff I’d be out there. Ended up going to the pub across the road which had excellent service. No TV remote in room.

Very helpful staff, particularly many at breakfast. Disabled and he was very helpful.

I really enjoyed staying at this hotel. The room I had this time was very comfortable with a spacious bathroom. The traffic noise was manageable, because the beautiful gardens provided secluded and peaceful respite. The staff, as always, were fantastically attentive, both on reception, at breakfast and at dinner, so many thanks to you all for that. I will definitely return in the future.

I stayed in a dog-friendly room and it was spotless. A relaxed stay with pleasant staff around. I only had one problem that was resolved without fuss - I wanted a light meal and asked for chicken breast with house salad. The Chef could do this but not the computer; when it came it was delicious. Grounds suffering from drought and and dead bushes reduced what could have been a most attractive seating area, but the main lawns were easily reached.

Very tired and outdated court yard room. In need of a face lift. Food was also poor of the evening I ate there.
