Our 3 night stay was great! The renovations didn’t bother us at all, as they weren’t doing work on them during the day. The breakfast staff at the pool every morning was wonderful. Our room was clean and had a beautiful ocean view. There were always plenty of chairs by the pool and beach and wait staff was on top of it! We will definitely stay again!

Great stay. The hotel is renovated but we see in its architecture and some aesthetic details was it’s an old one. Whatever it’s very nice. Swimming pool is huge and the access direct to beach. Be careful, they add $45 fees per day (not well justified) and $30 per day for parking. My only concern is the guys at the entrance: they discuss a lot and forget sometimes to help you with your luggage. Whatever it was great. Mahalo!

3 hot tubes under construction. Noisy. Restaurant under construction. Parking rental car pricing was ridiculous price. Price of hold over in room because flight went out at 9:45 pm. But we did not arrive until 7:45 pm when entering hotel and spent 14 days in your resort. Was very disappointed in that.

Beautiful property and grounds. Rooms feel new and well maintained. Lots of options in and out of property for dining. Kalapakī beach is footsteps away and my kids enjoyed playing in that beach for hours. Staff from the lobby, grab and go, Kukui’s bar, and even the pool hut were all very friendly and helpful. My family loved the giant pool as well and that there were 5 hot tubs to choose from. Parking was easy as well. My only complain esp with 4 kids is that the bathroom doors did not have locks.

Beautiful hotel with lots of gorgeous landscaping, including a koi pond, and artwork to enjoy while walking along the hallways or pausing to rest at one of the many comfy outdoor seating areas. The large pool was awesome. There were 5 hot tubs, so you didn’t have to wait too long before one became available if you just wanted to hang out in one with your own group. We were in a pool-view room, but there was also a view of the ocean off to our left that only got better if you went out onto the balcony. The nearby beach was also beautiful and relatively calm due to it being a bit more protected by what seems to be a natural harbor. We appreciated the nearby dining options on days when we didn’t want to hunt around for something in town or just got cleaned up from a day hike and didn’t feel like going out in the car again. Sometimes the front desk seemed like it could have been better staffed (especially if you were there after pool house hours and needed to get pool towels) but staff was always courteous and apologized for the wait if there was one. I would definitely consider staying at the Royal Sonesta again.

The hotel was beautiful & rooms were nice & clean. However, our room was only cleaned every other day & we ran out of toilet paper & towels. My son stepped on glass in the pool which cut his foot. He went under the water & found a handful of glass pieces on the bottom of the pool. The pool could have been a bit cleaner. I know this all sounds bad, but I would stay at this property again.

Bathroom seems like it's been recently updated. Extra visitors e.g. In total, 1 cockroach came into the room a night. Not sure if it is because we were on the first floor...but if you're squeamish about critters, beware. Extremely hard to find parking, the lot was full every night on the property.

Overall this hotel was great, although a little dated. The room was nice and very comfortable. The bath/shower felt a little retro but had definitely been updated. Check-in was not as easy as most. We arrived 45 minutes before check-in time and were told we’d get a call when the room was ready but that it simply needed to be inspected so wouldn’t be long. After about an hour we inquired at the front desk again and were told they had just called us although we never received a call and they texted us during our stay with no issues. There was some confusion with bracelets that apparently had to be worn for security purposes but they had run out so that was somewhat problematic when we went to the pool. The room was mostly clean although there felt like there was some grit (probably sand) on the floor and a few errant hairs in the sink and shower. The pool area was gorgeous with the beach right beyond it. The restaurants in the area were fantastic. We tried to visit the hotel restaurant for lunch one day and arrived within their lunch hours but were told they were still transitioning from their breakfast service and not ready for lunch. We were directed to the bar area but opted to go to one of the other restaurants instead. Concierge was very helpful and provided a map of the island so we could explore the island on our own. Valet was quick and easy. Most of the issues we had can be resolved with a few relatively easy tweaks.

The property was nice and the staff. Wasn’t sure to use complimentary tabs or if there was a charge for them. Didn’t use my birthday drink voucher because they weren’t available to use until 11 and I was already on with my days for adventure and sad didn’t use prior to leaving back home. One thing I was disappointed with was the cleanliness of the room. It appears clean but I’ve found two roaches in the room roaming near the tv and bedding area so my nights were restless having to wake up every now and then to be sure nothing else was crawling on me. Pest treatments are recommended to change my mind in the future for rating . My “upgrade” promised an ocean view from previous selection for $50 more a night I got a side view and main focal point was the pool area. My friends were asked about upgrades to their rooms too. Just be sure to double check what you pay extra for prior to agreeing . Parking near our tower was limited so you got lucky if you got a spot. They do provide more space but it is a distant for us and down hill. Wristband as room keys were beneficial for the trip and waterproof so didn’t have to worry about losing any keys. My ratings were all necessary for this trip.

The staff was friendly. However, the bathroom was very dirty and the sheets and pillows had stains on them. we requested for more sheets. The bathroom shower was not draining well. We paid over $1,600 to stay here and it was not what we expected at all. The room was dirty. Additionally I had left my coupons and free passes on the table in the room and the cleaning people took them or tossed them after cleaning. The front desk refused to reissue me new coupons the night I called. They gave me new coupons the next morning but I couldn’t use them because the restaurant was closed. Such a disappointment.

The property was beautiful and I enjoyed my stay except they only have housekeeping every other day. There were 4 in one room. The hotel was accommodating we needed new sheets and they changed sheets on a day we didn’t have housekeeping. I enjoyed my stay will be coming back. I would say they should extended their pool hours to 10:30 pm vs 10 pm We would come in late and not be able to enjoy the hot tub for too long but we absolutly loved this property. Vallet was great they helped us often and even shuttled us back to the hotel when our flight got delayed 4.5/5.0 stars.

Hotel was fine, dated however. Room Was clean upon arriving but then w room Service every other day and trips to the beach the room gets dirty quickly. Not a fan of room Service, we ordered dinner one night and they brought it in a paper bag, disposable containers, etc. pretty sure it was bought at an outside restaurant and uncharged after that. Then to top it off a dead cockroach (yes a cockroach) was found in the room. We were Staying on the 6th floor so not even ground level. It took me 2-3 calls to get “maintenance” (who had better things to do on a Saturday night, hence the 2-3 phone calls) to come a remove it from the room. The incident would’ve been better tolerated if I didn’t get attitude or at least got an apology from the front desk about it. Never have I found a dead cockroach inside a hotel room. Absolutely disgusting. Won’t be staying at this hotel ever again.

We stayed at this hotel for 4 nights at the start of April 2024. We had a King Room, Pool View and we’re on the 3rd floor in the easternmost building. Cleanliness is huge for me, and this property and room was immaculate. The hotel room had flooring throughout (yay for no carpet when you’re packing sand around), and the bathroom was one of the largest I’ve seen in any standard hotel room with an awesome walk in shower. Staff with pleasant and very helpful. The view: phenomenal of the large pool area, with glimpses of the beach, waves and cruise ships parked out in front. The resort was gorgeous. Beautiful gardens, beautiful pool area. The food choices: a hotel restaurant that is poolside and open-air. We ate breakfast, dinner and had a nightcap here. Did not disappoint. There was also a patio dining option for coffee-shop style fair in the AM and sushi in the evening. A couple minutes walk along the beach path gets you to a beach bar, and beach side dining in the form of Italian and a surf and turf restaurant. Many food truck options just outside the property too. And only a couple minutes to the airport, so super convenient, and the sounds of waves crashing was louder than any planes. The planes did not disturb us in any way. Overall, one of the best properties I’ve stayed at.

The beach is swimmable (what is hard in the island), and just outside the pool. The room was very nice and renovated. The fact that is close to the airport was a concern I had, but you cannot hear a single plane pass by. You can walk to several eating spots and small shops, what was thing to do in the afternoon. staff was very polite and friendly.

Gorgeous hotel! Staff is so amazing and kind to help or answer any questions or needs. Room was very spacious and clean. Wifi was a bit slow/spotty at times - same with the TV in our room (slow to navigate). HUGE pool with amazing food/bev service. Otherwise we enjoyed our stay and would definitely come back!

The resort is beautiful. BUT... the rooms.... just okay. And what the heck is up with the toilets? Soooo loud when you flush them. Lights in the bathroom would be better if the shower area and sink area could be controlled separately. Door from room to sink area would be appreciated so if you turn on light in sink area the bedroom area is not illuminated also.

We loved everything about the stay except the room would get no cooler than 75 degrees and it felt warmer than that at night. We would sweat in bed and had a hard time sleeping. The property is beautiful and the rooms are adequate. Of course everything is way over priced but that’s to be expected.

Stayed one night before checking into our timeshare at Poipu. Booked a pool view room…Perhaps because we booked on Hotels.com we were given the lowest floor overlooking the very noisy children's pool. Really no pool view to speak of. I think the rooms were recently updated but it felt very low budget. No amenities in the bathroom. They do give you 2 refillable water bottles but the water filing stations are all by the lobby and not close to some of the rooms. If you have mobility issues, call ahead and let them know, our room was quite far from the lobby. Suited our purpose for 1 night but likely would not return,

My only complaint is the parking, it's an ongoing challenge unless you're willing to pay for valet parking. They could also use a lot more wait staff around the pool area. Other than that this place is borderline heaven on earth with amazing staff. If I could give 6 stars I would. Cant wait to go back.

I had a rather upsetting incident at the restaurant for breakfast. I was at there for breakfast and I was told they were open but the two stuff members were busy doing their thing and the supervisor was giving speech to all other staff. I was there for quite some time and was ignored. Guess a single senior lady tends to get that. When I sat down and supervisor saw me not thrilled and asked if I was OK, I said something like "it's a long wait ". The supervisor was rather rude and said "you should be respectful". This really floored me. How was I not respectful? Did I say or do anything? Very upsetting. Supervisor's name is Mike, in pink shirt. I hope he would not do that to others, especially not to senior people.

Front desk lady tried to sneak in $30 daily self parking charges onto our 6 night stay. She created small talk and ask if we got to drive around and see the island I said yes (my parents had a car I did not) then when I saw the receipt was almost $200 more then our stay should have been per my reservation email I saw the $30 daily self parking charges. I told her we didn’t have a car and she played dumb and said “oh you didn’t” I told her I read reviews about them adding miscellaneous charges and that is the only reason I went through the itemized receipt and she said oh really? Well you said you drove around the island and then removed the charges. Overall the hotel was okay, it’s under construction and it was loud you could even hear it by the beach area. the pool was also partially closed off in 1 area. My parents also had an issue with the charges at checkout so customers beware

The property is absolutely beautiful. The room was clean and very spacious, the bed was comfortable. We had a nice view from our balcony and the beach access was perfect. There are a lot of stores and restaurants within walking distance, the hotel is so close to the airport is perfect, it really helps when you fly in late and you don't want to drive far to your hotel, it was very convenient. You could go either direction and find things to do and see. The staff was friendly and helpful, it was perfect for our vacation.

The service was excellent and the room was clean. The property overall was also clean and in a great location. We enjoyed the park-like beach area and easy walk to multiple restaurants and shops. Service for my handicapped mother was also excellent. They loaned us a wheelchair for our stay. Breakfast, lunch and dinner at the poolside restaurant was pretty good too.

I was only here for 2 nights/3 days and I wish I could have stayed longer. I had amazing interactions with everyone there from the airport shuttle driver to Susan (front desk agent who checked me in) she was lovely! It was a beautiful property with such amazing views from my lanai. Will be returning!

Royal Sonesta Kauai Resort is a beautiful property, with a panoply of exotic plants and amazing scenery. The resort is very clean and the staff is very helpful and friendly. It is in wakable distance to a variety of restaurants and a shopping area. The hotel is conviently located close to the airport, Costco and Walmart.

Genuinely cannot say enough good things, looking at everything holistically I can’t recommend enough. The pool area is amazing and this is one of few resorts I’ve been too with enough pool chairs! The beach is amazing and clean and again plenty of seating. All of the food was really good for being poolside and the drinks were also wonderful. Every staff interaction was top knotch especially when we were checking in. The property is very centrally located so short ride from airport but no airport noise or traffic at the actual property. Plenty of walkable coffee shops and stores. The rooms service is every other day but for us this did not bother us a bit and if we needed anything no doubt could have asked for it. Perfect for couples or families as the property is big enough and nice enough for either.

A large, beautiful resort that requires a lot of walking. Some may prefer a smaller, more intimate experience but we came to appreciate the elegance for the size. We loved being able to hear the lovely performance of the guitarist/vocalist floating out on the evening air across the pools and gardens to serve two restaurants as well as the evening swimmers and strollers.

Royal Sonesta is conveniently located close to the airport and in the middle between attractions on West/South side of island and North side of island. There are restaurants and shopping walking distance, access to both pool and the beach, and beautiful views. Will go back!

Beautiful with an amazing pool. Lihue is a great location on the island. One can easily drive north to Princeville or South to Pipui and other towns in between. You can walk straight out from the pool to the almost private beach.

The property lacks in restaurant options. Only one option for dining and dinner dining closes early. Dinner dining is very average but the staff was great! Nice BBQ area but needs better lighting. Minimal housekeeping service which was a negative.Unfortunately, there was loud construction work during the day which interfered with the Hawaiian experience. We purchased the breakfast package and the final invoice was unclear and did not disclose the breakfast package discount. Not sure if we would return to Royal Sonesta - probably not.

Amazingly beautiful hotel. Problem was at over $500 a night the dinner restaurant is closed and there is construction going on at the pool which you do hear loudly when you are at the pool. And the breakfast buffet had minimal food selection at $40pp. Coffee service at the hotel ends at 2pm and the sushi restaurant gets so overwhelmed they stop serving an hour before closing. Birds crap all over breakfast chairs and peck at the buffet food when they can. At this hotel rate, it’s worth staying at only when they correct their problems. Weather was hit and miss at the Sonesta in Lihue. Sun is better in Poipu, in the South.

Gorgeous resort, really nice pool, ocean and mountain view. Unfortunately some construction going on during our stay but didn’t stop us from having fun. Sushi at Royal Lanai is AMAZING!! Ask for Chris, he is the best!

What’s not to love about this property? Bed was great, beautiful views (we had an ocean view room), location is perfect - being close to the airport was actually nice because we got to the hotel in 10 minutes but plane noise wasn’t an annoyance since not many planes come in to or out of LIH. The setting by the beach on Kalapaki Bay is amazing too. The one thing we did not expect was the quality of the food onsite and nearby. We were only here 3 nights but enjoyed the poolside restaurant for breakfast every day and LOVED it. Also dinner one night. It’s untouched for food quality and taste for many hotel restaurants, not only ones that also serve as the pool and beachside bar. Enough raving - we loved the resort. Totally exceeded our expectations.

Loved the pool and the area, the proximity to so many great adventures. Didn't love the food options at the hotel, itself. Was very limited and over-priced for what it was. That said, just off property, The Jammin Banana was a great breakfast spot.

Close to many shops and restaurants. Hotel restaurants are pretty pricey though.
