Very roomy in the sleeping/living area. Nice to have laundry available! Nice fire pit area and outdoor seating. The outside swing's seat is moldy. A dining table for 4 people in a suite that sleeps 10? Shower makes a high pitched squeel on and off, but can be quieted by turning the shower off and back on.

It is evident the owners have sought to make an upscale place to stay, with little touches (like a nicely decorated lobby with massage chair or the heated bidet toilet seat). When we stayed, there were only another 2 rooms occupied. It was quiet in the room, except for highway noise due to a gap in the window at top due to a good window AC unit. A towel wedged in that gap, plus forcing the AC fan to stay on made for a quiet night's sleep). The house was apparently built in 1881. I wish I knew more about the history of the house. It's a good central location to visit Indiana dunes national Park.

Only negative- The outside grounds were really in need of some TLC, specifically the trash around the outside and under the porches. Overall we really liked the place and would recommend it, and stay, again. Bonus points for allowing dogs, you’d never know it was a pet friendly place from the excellent condition on the interior. We all enjoyed it.

When you pull up you have no idea where to park or enter. When we did figure out where to park there was a deck on the back of the facility that was filled with trash under it. We finally got in entered our code and there was someone in the room cleaning. We left to explore the area and came back. It was very dark in the parking area which was in the grass on a steep hill and was hard to see until you got to the entrance and a motion light came on. The room itself was clean but furniture was old and very uncomfortable. The location was convenient to the beaches and dunes. It is hard to get past the initial impression so if the outside was cleaned up it would be a very nice place. If you are going to this area although this place was adequate I would recommend looking for a better option.

Newly renovated mansion on rustic, yet scenic grounds. Large common area available for groups. Over sized room. Great butt washer on toilet. 😊 Easy walk to Dunes park . Helpful staff. Short, easy drive to restaurants. Washer & dryer available. Very pleasant experience.

Just a lovely place to stay with family. So many nice details and amenities including a fire pit outside which was a great place to hang out. We stayed in the family suite and the kitchenette came fully stocked with what we needed — there were even coffee filters! We felt right at home and we will definitely be coming back.

Trash under balcony. The second floor room was too difficult to climb for my 82 year-old husband. Really liked the first floor with room for 7 to sleep. Lived the books in each room. Hostess responded ver quickly to my questions. Some confusion on getting into the two rooms, likely our fault in not reading the text well enough. Beautiful house, well appointed bathrooms and very clean. Loved the moldings and oak floors.

When I pulled up, I was unsure I was @ the right place. There was no clear signs or parking, we parked in the yard, there was garbage & junk all over the yard, check in was unclear, a maintenance guy was hanging out at the property but didn't speak English, rooms had broken furniture, food left in fridge, nasty coffee pot & no way to communicate with a property manager. The hotel also sits off a main road & train tracks & you hear that all nighr. It was a very uncomfortable & uneasy stay!

Nicely redone home. Unfortunately my room was not made up upon arrival (around 9:30pm), but the manager promptly placed me in another that was very clean and comfortable. Road noise a bit bothersome at times.

The Furness Mansion was lovely! First thing I noticed when I walked it was how good it smelled and how clean it was. Our room was the same. We stayed with our young kids after visiting the Dunes. Little noise from the road out front but not terrible. Comfortable, quaint stay! Would stay again.

Really cool home with comfortable beds. Very clean! Great location, close to Lake Michigan and lots of beaches. Restaurants close by. Perfect for a large group. If you plan to cook a lot, may need to bring a cooler for some items as there are several mini refrigerators but no full size ones.

Beautiful location with spacious rooms in a romantic setting. Close to the dunes and a nearby town with lots of restaurants. It is a great place to stay with a family and pet for a longer term stay at the parks.

Room was clean. No staff onsite. Unfortunately our room 203 is located on Hwy 20. We could not close the windows due to window a/c. It made for a sleepless mights due to highway noise.

As someone who regularly seeks out historic and interesting accommodations while traveling, I really wanted to love this property. But overall I'd say it was good but not great. The building is located right next to an extremely noisy, very heavily trafficked road, with trucks and cars whizzing by all day and all night. The room was upstairs so we had to make a few trips hauling our luggage to our room (we travel with our dog, food boxes and a cooler as well as our bags). Parking was on a hilly, uneven, grassy area that was pretty wet and muddy. The room was really cold on arrival and as others have noted, room information about heating and working the TV is lacking. I chose this room because it had a small kitchen, but there were no bowls, so I had to eat cereal out of a coffee mug. There were knives and spoons but no forks. And no Kleenex. On the plus side, it was nicely restored, dog-friendly and had a laundry (much appreciated on a long road trip). The sitting room downstairs was lovely, but we didn't use it. There's so much potential here, but for us it missed the mark.

Had a great stay for 1 night. Had a room on the 2nd floor and didn't care for how much noise the upstairs folks were making til later in the night. Couldn't figure out the TV but ended up just going to bed. Bed was comfy, pillows were good. Property was cute and well maintained. Would totally stay here again!

No front desk at this "mansion." They texted a code to get in the front door, the room number, and a code to get in the room. After trying the main door code about a dozen times, we couldn't get in. The code didn't work. We rang the doorbell, but got no answer. Since it was dark and chilly, we left and went elsewhere. We have not stayed here, so cannot make any other review. It did look nice through the window.

This was a lovely place to stay...such a nice surprise as we booked at the last minute. We would stay here again for sure! The owner was very accomodating, and the hotel is beautiful...perfectly described as a boutique hotel. Loved it.

Nicely redone home. Unfortunately my room was not made up upon arrival (around 9:30pm), but the manager promptly placed me in another that was very clean and comfortable. Road noise a bit bothersome at times.

The Furness is a neat building in a nice area. We were not sure how or who would be checking us in ..we came in through the door closest to the parking and just stood there. No official greeting or idea what to do. Once we made a phone call, we were given directions and codes by text. The room is nice and we liked the ‘extras’, but we felt a bit lost in the entire check- in. The Tv is set for Prime, but you can’t access anything. One of the best parts was the very late check- out, the walk to the School House shop, and the cemetery. We will stay again.. we think?

The property was “homey” and well kept. It provided a “countryside” environment and it was nearby Indiana Dunes and 60-90 minutes from Chicago Metro area. It’s a nice property and idea for lodging. It felt like a home.

We enjoyed our family weekend at this location. It was great to have our individual suites for privacy, yet space to gather too. The house is lovely and well-appointed. Outdoor spaces could be improved, i.e., lighting, seating, etc., and can be quite noisy with traffic closeby and trains. The location is great for park access.

As someone who regularly seeks out historic and interesting accommodations while traveling, I really wanted to love this property. But overall I'd say it was good but not great. The building is located right next to an extremely noisy, very heavily trafficked road, with trucks and cars whizzing by all day and all night. The room was upstairs so we had to make a few trips hauling our luggage to our room (we travel with our dog, food boxes and a cooler as well as our bags). Parking was on a hilly, uneven, grassy area that was pretty wet and muddy. The room was really cold on arrival and as others have noted, room information about heating and working the TV is lacking. I chose this room because it had a small kitchen, but there were no bowls, so I had to eat cereal out of a coffee mug. There were knives and spoons but no forks. And no Kleenex. On the plus side, it was nicely restored, dog-friendly and had a laundry (much appreciated on a long road trip). The sitting room downstairs was lovely, but we didn't use it. There's so much potential here, but for us it missed the mark.

It is evident the owners have sought to make an upscale place to stay, with little touches (like a nicely decorated lobby with massage chair or the heated bidet toilet seat). When we stayed, there were only another 2 rooms occupied. It was quiet in the room, except for highway noise due to a gap in the window at top due to a good window AC unit. It's a good central location to visit Indiana dunes national Park.

When I pulled up, I was unsure I was @ the right place. There was no clear signs or parking, we parked in the yard, there was garbage & junk all over the yard, check in was unclear, a maintenance guy was hanging out at the property but didn't speak English, rooms had broken furniture, food left in fridge, nasty coffee pot & no way to communicate with a property manager. The hotel also sits off a main road & train tracks & you hear that all nighr. It was a very uncomfortable & uneasy stay!

The Furness Mansion was lovely! First thing I noticed when I walked it was how good it smelled and how clean it was. Our room was the same. We stayed with our young kids after visiting the Dunes. Little noise from the road out front but not terrible. Comfortable, quaint stay! Would stay again.

Sixteen of our family members came to the area to join a larger family reunion in LaPorte. We had a great experience at DunesWalk Inn and were able to take advantage of being sooo very close to the Dunes and Lake Michigan. We were given all the details needed for check-in and leaving and the home was so comfortable and beautiful in every way. The only thing I would mention is that the kitchenettes in the various suites have small refrigerators and very limited cooking and eating supplies if you have a larger group and plan to cook or bake quite a bit or need quite a bit of fridge space. But we made it work! We would highly recommend this large, lovely home to anyone coming with a bigger group to NW Indiana. Thanks so much for hosting us well!

Very roomy in the sleeping/living area. Nice to have laundry available! Nice fire pit area and outdoor seating. The outside swing's seat is moldy. A dining table for 4 people in a suite that sleeps 10? Shower makes a high pitched squeel on and off, but can be quieted by turning the shower off and back on.

Very cool place! The inside was clean; bedding, bathroom, floors, kitchen, etc. The kitchen faucet is in need of repair but functional. Only negative- The outside grounds were really in need of some TLC, specifically the trash around the outside and under the porches. Overall we really liked the place and would recommend it, and stay, again. Bonus points for allowing dogs, you’d never know it was a pet friendly place from the excellent condition on the interior. We all enjoyed it.

Just a lovely place to stay with family. So many nice details and amenities including a fire pit outside which was a great place to hang out. We stayed in the family suite and the kitchenette came fully stocked with what we needed — there were even coffee filters! We felt right at home and we will definitely be coming back.

AC unit leaking, refrigerator too small, no pots or pans, was told that I would have the first level I had the 3rd (had surgery on foot I could barely navigate the stairs, not ample parking, neighbors threatened to slash my son’s tires, no broom or dust pan and mice were in the room my cat decapitated them. We woke up to a mouse massacre.

We were a bit confused upon arriving because there was no staff present. I forgot to view the message that had the room number and room code in it so once I found that we were great. It was very comfortable and a very nice room. The fire alarm went off right before 7 AM and there was a strong burning smell downstairs. However, soon we learned that someone had put a pizza box in the oven to warm up the pizza and it caught fire. It was extinguished quickly in the shower and everything was back to normal.
