Hotel Topeka at City Center

The pool needed a good scrubbing. Staff was friendly. Hotel was fine.

Parking for hotel is limited due to the public using the convention facility. The room was sufficient but old and tired. Needs major updates to match the price. The front desk area is not friendly. After standing in front of a staff person who was on the phone, then I moved and waited for another staff person to assist me. I had asked for a low floor and was told there were no Executive Kings available. There was no attempt to find a lower floor room of any kind. The restaurant was only open for breakfast. For a full service convention hotel there should be three meals offered.

Staff was friendly and was quick to respond to our requests. Indoor pool and exercise center are great. Very pleased with the room rate. People are overlooking this great value in a hotel. I’ll always stay here when I’m in Topeka.

Our room was really clean. Staff was very helpful. Pool was the perfect temperature. Wish there was a hot tub, but the exercise room is well-equipped. Really enjoyed our breakfast. Breakfast staff is very friendly. We have stayed here before and had an equally good experience.

I always enjoy staying at this hotel, however, my only disappointment was the restaurant is no longer open for dinner.

Beautifully set up. Only complaint is no hot tub! Kids loved the pool.

This hotel needs an update. I'm sure they're aware and hear this all the time, but it's just the 1st thing that hits you from the time you enter, to when you go up the elevator, to when you enter your room. During check in, the front desk clerk mentioned that too many people didn't want to work, and I immediately responded that they probably needed higher pay. But when you charge so little for your room rate, it might be tough to pay higher wages. And honestly, if I had to pay more than I did for the room, I'd have been pretty mad about it. It's a vicious cycle. They need to update, so they can charge more for their rooms, and so they can have more reliable/happier staff. ::shrugs:: The bed was comfortable for me, but not for my husband. (He said it was too hard.) We had an executive king room which had a decent amount of space, including a couch and a desk. The bathroom door was broken and wouldn't fully close unless something was propped against it. The shower curtain made me sad. The shower faucet seemed on the verge of giving up the ghost. The bar was understaffed for a night where there was an event happening next door. A friend seemed to enjoy the indoor pool (which was open til midnight). Front desk folks were friendly and very helpful. Parking seems plentiful. Location is decent...very close to the capitol building and downtown area. I would stay here again if necessity called for it, but will choose other hotels over it in the future.

The website needs to be updated, the bar is only open a few days, the restaurant is only open for breakfast and you have to pay for breakfast even if your a guest.

I was traveling for business. Some positives: The breakfast was excellent. The bed was comfortable (except the pillows), and the shower had hot water any time of day. Negatives - the pillows compressed into very hard blocks, they were testing the fire alarms, the elevators were not working the last day, and the stairwells smelled like cigarette smoke. I have stayed at this hotel at least a dozen times in the last 5 years, and this was the least comfortable. Except for the breakfast, which has improved greatly since the last time.

I stayed here for a dog show at the expo center that is attached to the hotel. If you are coming for convenience this hotel can’t be beat. They have lots of grass areas to potty dogs. There were also lots bag/trash stations, but unclear if the dog show put those out or the hotel as they were permanent stations. They no longer serve dinner, but the bar does stay open. Breakfast in the morning is a buffet station and priced reasonably. Same thing everyday, but one hot carb option changes (pancakes, waffles, French toast, biscuits/gravy.) They said they don’t clean until the 3rd day, but they didn’t clean then either. We had to go to the front desk for towels, Kleenex, and toilet paper. We left trash and towels outside our door on the days we knew they weren’t cleaning and they did get picked up/emptied. Overall, if you need a hotel that takes dogs and are doing something at the expo center, this is the place to stay. If not, you can likely find better accommodations that are renovated.

I chose this hotel because of the location same as last year but the room I got stinks of urine. Won’t stay here again.

Impressed with cleanliness and it was a very nice property. Good option also for proximity to Lawrence.

This property is in terrible shape and needs updating. Carpet in the halls is repaired with strips of tape, carpets are dirty, bathtub had stains, air conditioner in room didn't work. On a scale of 1-5 this hotel rates as about a 2 star hotel.

The room was clean and well kept. The toilet seat was strangely warm as the tank seemed to fill with hot water.

The property was in a decent location but was very unkept and it was apparent that maintenance was not kept out. The bathtub in my room had terrible stains. The mirror in the bathroom had some sort of decoration around it at some time which had all come down but 1 tile. The fountains inside the property were empty and dirty. The lady that traveled with me discovered that her room had bed bugs and she checked out a day early but they refused to provide a refund for her room. I wouldn't go back to this property again.

Couch was not able to sit on. Sunk to the floor. Bathroom tub was filthy and the pillows were small.

The experience of this hotel was good in some ways and bad in others. The room was nice and big but there was hair all over the bathroom floor sink and bathtub. And then there was hair all over the bedding on the sheets. My granddaughter found old half eaten doggy biscuits under the bed. The breakfast was good but not worth the money $12 for breakfast per person and there wasn't a big variety and there wasn't anything that was freshly prepared. There wasn't a big variety of food for $12 per person plus tax

Bathtub was terrible. Water didn’t drain fast enough. Would have 4 inches of standing water at the end of a shower. Plus they tried to paint it,, and paint was peeling off.

I found what looked to be mold on our air vent in our room as I was packing up to leave. When I mentioned it to front desk staff when checking out they offered no sort of apology or discount for the inconvenience and health risk to my 10 month old daughter!

Room was very comfortable and clean.

My one night stay was very good, the room was nice and well maintained, staff was very friendly and I even got a free upgrade thanks to some unexpected bookings. Location isnt great, but it's centrally located, so it's not far to places you want to go. Would definitely stay here again.

The stay was just ok. Rooms were dated, I was not able to adjust the temperature in the room f so I it was just hot. Maintenance tried to fix but it didn’t work. For a dated hotel it was still a nice looking hotel in the lobby area.

Ac did not work in room

The beds are only double beds so they are smaller. The heads of our beds were lower than the feet of the beds, so it was not very comfortable to sleep. The fridge was tiny and didn't work, but they did bring us a new one that was bigger and did work. 2 of our keys didn't work when we returned the next evening. The hotel is definitely showing some wear and tear, but the staff was friendly and helpful. The rooms were pretty spacious and were clean.

A little dated, but staff is friendly and suites are nice size.

Room was clean but the hair dryer didn't work, the toilet handle was 'tricky' and the bathtub had rust. It was such a beautiful hotel, but appears to be in decline. Still a lovely facility but showing age.

The building is dated. It looks nice but my room door fell off its hinges… they moved me immediately.

No ac or hot water in 1 room. 2nd room had leak on lower level and had to be moved to a 3rd room.

Booked room online paid for it and arrived to be told they were canceling it due to being fully booked

Hotel didn't have a room available for us. We had to find another room in Topeka at 10:00pm at night.

I checked in at 8:00om, couldn't get a room until 12:30am because they were still cleaning rooms. They should have hired a cleaning service since they knew a big event was happening.

We were hired to dj a New Year Eve party at the hotel and decided to book a room for the evening. The room was clean and comfortable. We were able to fit all our equipment in the room after the event which was a plus as we prefer not to leave it in the vehicle overnight. Staff was all kind and extremely helpful.

The shower faucet was not attached very well and you could not adjust the shower. 2 towels and one wash clothe for 4 people to a room when we checked in no one told you anything where your room was or .the pool or if you get breakfast ect terrible check in service

Spent a very unique week here and was not disappointed in the slightest. Many of the staff, including jake, rene, Michael, and Wayne, were very helpful throughout a complicated situation and provided professional and friendly service through it all. Would recommend Hotel Topeka at City Center to anybody who wishes to stay in the area.

Hotel Topeka at City Center was just as I expected and how it was depicted online when I was booking the room. The staff were knowledgeable, courteous, professional although this was a business trip if and when my wife and I come here again for pleasure this hotel will be our choice.

We really enjoyed our stay. We were glad we have GPS because there is no sign to let you know where the property is.

The front desk did not seem to have a good handle on what was available in the area. Only one recommendation was given for a rstaurant but it was good. The surrounding neighborhood appeared run-down but we walked to two tourist sites without a problem. The hotel itself was immaculate and impressive.

It is a beautiful hotel. The only reason thing is the surrounding area is maybe a little sketchy, mainly a gas station across the street that didn't feel the most safe but the hotel it's self had security in the evening and felt very safe. Nice pool, bigger pool towels than the tiny towels at most hotels. No free breakfast but nice dining and bar areas where you can purchase breakfast. Food was a bit pricey but I felt the rooms were definitely a great value. Nicer and cheaper than a lot of places I have stayed. Very convenient to walk to the event we were attending! Would definitely stay again!

We were attending a horse show at the arena which is on the same property as Hotel Topeka and it was really convenient with the hotel on the same property, just a short walk or drive.

It was close to down town where I had meetings. Parking was great. For the price, it was nicer than I expected.

I wouldn’t want to stay for more than a night just because it’s not a great area of town (no nightlife, restaurants, etc). It was clean enough, just don’t look in corners or behind things. The place looks like it was once nice so it’s strange there is nothing within walking distance. The breakfast in the morning was just fine and the server very friendly.

This hotel must be a former Embassy Suites. It had a beautiful atrium with fountains and a breakfast buffet for $12. The rain we stayed was its proximity to Stormont Vail Events Center where we can watch a concert and just walk back to our hotel room!

Good location relative to Washburn U. The property is showing signs of age and lack of maintenance. BUT we felt safe

Close to the Capital

I chose this hotel because we were going to a concert at the Expocenter literally right next door. It was very easy to check in and I would definitely recommend to anyone try it out for yourself.

Rooms and building were very nice! Disappointed that breakfast didn’t come with the room.

My stay at this hotel was completely below what I had expected. I booked the room st this hotel for the amenities: room service on site bar and grill and an indoor pool. The onsite bar and grill were closed so there for there was no room service. And the indoor pool may as well been outside seeing as how the pool water was cold and you could see your breath in the air. On the side of the pool. I will not recommend the hotel at all and will anyone who askes where to stay " certainly not at Hotel Topeka at city center. "

The rooms were ok but had to request beds to be made and clean towels. We had to pay for breakfast if we wanted it and it was just a normal continental breakfast thats free at other hotels
