Stayed 1 night

I was excited to stay at Sarum College, and my first impressions were good. It’s in a great location, the room was clean, and I appreciated having towels and a sink provided. Unfortunately, the room I was allocated was directly next to the shared toilet, which had two doors — one for the toilet and one for the corridor — and both slammed loudly and echoed directly into my room. As the building is old, sound also travels very easily. Throughout the evening and into the night, there was a lot of noise from other guests in this part of the corridor, including loud conversations, people going up and down the stairs (which were directly outside my room), and bedroom doors being repeatedly slammed. This continued well after 11pm, and people using the shared toilet during the night also seemed unaware of how loudly the many the doors were closing. I was woken nine times in total. We also stayed on a Saturday night and come 7am on the sunday morning it was all going again. I appreciate that some noise is inevitable in shared accommodation, but the combination of the room’s location, the shared facilities and the acoustics made it very difficult to sleep. If you’re a light sleeper or are sensitive to noise, I would recommend checking where your room is located before booking, and ideally avoiding rooms immediately next to the shared bathroom facilities. My parents stayed at the opposite end of the corridor in rooms with their own bathrooms and had a much quieter experience.

When you stay here you have to allow for an old building with old plumbing etc. the parking is excellent, location second to none, easy walk to the town, and the breakfast, make sure you don’t miss it, Would I recommend it, omg yes but don’t expect 5 star but do expect lovely staff, history all about you and memories that will last a lifetime

Stayed 1 night

This was a unique opportunity to spend a night within the cathedral close. My room within the college is used as student accommodation from time to time, although when the student use is quiet, the rooms are opened up to the general public. My single room was basic but with a comfy bed and en-suite facilities and it was lovely and quiet. It was such a treat to stay in this historic property for a night. The breakfast was excellent with a good selection of cereals, pastries, hot breakfast options and fruit
