At La Quinta by Wyndham Abilene Mall, travellers report a mix of experiences: convenient location and pet-friendly policies, but frequent maintenance and cleanliness issues, notably unreliable elevators, a poorly maintained pool, and rooms showing wear alongside some clean, comfortable stays.

Stayed 3 nights

Well I gave one star because we stayed two of our three nights in a room where the toilet did not work. The plastic handle that holds the flapper chain in the tank snapped off - they did replace that although the chain continued to fall off and we had to reach in the tank and reclip the chain. The big issue was that the float and the pump were broken inside the tank. In order to flush the toilet we had to remove the tank lid and press the fill button on top of the pump. Every time. And pray it would fill. Also the sink was backed up- which they did not fix, and there was not a stopper in the sink. The third night we moved to another room. The toilet worked in that room. This stay was really expensive and we were VERY unhappy with a room without a functioning toilet. Nearly 500$ for the two nights without the working toilet and the clogged sink!!!! If the cleaning staff actually cleaned the toilet, it would have been clear that the interior workings needed to be completely replaced. There is an AI tech center being built in Abilene so housing the workers has driven up the price of all the hotels. I’m hesitant to mention other issues because that makes it seem like we are nit picking and this wasn’t the Ritz- however the rest of the room and the hotel were dirty. For instance, mold all over the bath tub caulk in both of our rooms, dead bugs in the hallway, floors that were covered in dirt, carpets that hadn’t been vacuumed in quite a while. Pass this hotel up.

Stayed 1 night

Room had a very strong smell of chemical, maybe bleach. Not enough towels in the room for 5 guests. I didn’t check the fill description on the room details- it said people could sleep; it only 2/ queen size beds.

Stayed 3 nights

There was hair on the sheets, under the sheets, under the liner. There were pee and coffee stains on the liners. I didn’t even check the whole bed(s). The lamp was covered in dust. The curtains were shredded on one side. The room smelled. The bathtub was destroyed. There was splatter on the bathroom door. The sink, faucet and mirror were not clean. We had to buy air freshener. I was too tired from the driving and I had a torn meniscus so I couldn’t deal with switching rooms till the next afternoon. Thankfully hotels.com got us a partial refund because the hotel tried to charge me for the full three days. We left and went to the Hilton which cost $375 for one night but it was worth it.

If you’re looking for a clean, reasonably priced place to stay, this hotel may meet your needs. However, if aesthetics and updated accommodations are important to you, it may fall short. Our room appeared overdue for fresh paint, and while the bathroom ceiling looked recently repaired, it had not been repainted. The bathtub finish was peeling in several large areas, which detracted from the room’s overall condition. If having access to a fitness center matters to you, be aware the only treadmill was unusable, as the control panel had been removed. On a positive note, the staff was very friendly and welcoming, and the breakfast was good. Overall, the service was a highlight, but the property could benefit from maintenance and updates.
