Very friendly staff. There are several types of lighting providing a cozy atmosphere. This hotel has a refrigerator and a microwave which is hard to come by any more. This would be my go to every time I'm in town if only it was easier to get in and out of the hotel. The hotel has one way in and out on a very busy road but if you can be patient it is worth the inconvenience.

Property is very clean and in good condition. Very comfortable mattress and bedding in our king size bed. I like the convenience of a microwave and fridge in the rooms. Breakfast was acceptable too (although it was missing some items in my view: fresh fruit, homemade granola, skim milk).

funky smell in room, bathrooms smell like sewage. don’t reserve a “suite” it will be smaller than the regular rooms. crack between the door and the floor lets light in all night long like a seedy motel. shower was clearly not cleaned out with dirt and hair at the bottom of the tub. subpar at best.

To start with the amenity information usually found in a hotel room , breakfast times, where it can be found, pool times etc. was non-existent. The next thing housekeeping came knocking at 9 am waking us up and was gone by the time we got to the door. They were back again at 10 as we were leaving. When we came back that evening NOTHING WAS DONE. We had to call the front desk for fresh towels and coffee in the morning. Upon returning on the second full day of our stay June 9th there STILL had been no cleaning of our room. The beds were not made , NO TOILET PAPER, no vacuuming was done. Overall our stay was horrible

I liked this hotel, it was quiet and the rooms were well appointed. Breakfast was great but would have appreciated some bacon. The only thing I did not like was the TV was an older version so there was no ability to log into Netflix or other streaming apps. The staff were very friendly and conversational.

Room was very clean. My bed had a terrible squeak in it. Every time you’d move or turn over it would squeak. Didn’t have a working phone in the room. But overall it was a nice stay. I’m picky about where I stay because I’m a germaphobe and I can say this place was clean.

Staff seemed a little overwhelmed. Lots of kids there making a ruckus late into the evening. Tried to get the staff to intervene but they were overwhelmed by late night check ins so I had to address it myself as we needed to get some sleep for our early morning wake up. Probably need to explain to groups about the expectation for quiet hours after 10pm.

I enjoyed stay at Holiday Inn Express very much. Everyone at front desk was awesome! With special mention to James, he should be considered the ambassador to your hotel. the included breakfast buffet was an added pleasure to starting the day. The only reason did not provide 5 stars was housekeeping was slack at times and had to be searched for to clean room and provide fresh bathroom items.

The overall stay was the quality we’ve always experienced at Holiday Inn Express & Suites. But this one in Matthews, NC has a true customer service gem for a front desk manager. I believe his name is James. Pleasant, personable, and excellent customer service skills…James’ interaction with my wife and I was the type of service that tells your clients they are his priority, they are appreciated, and that he would like to see them again. Job well done.

The staff were excellent! We had a very stressful beginning of the trip by leaving all of our luggage at home, but the front desk staff did their best to make things just a bit better. They were lovely.

I liked the location of the hotel and how close it was to restaurants. The front desk staff were helpful but they had a person that was obviously not fully trained and I had to go back down to finish the check-in and this person gave me some wrong information. There were no extra wash cloths at the front desk the next morning and the shower curtain was not long enough to prevent the water from coming out from the shower. Also the pancake/waffle maker was out of order at this location and at the one in West Jefferson, NC. Not sure what the issue is with that.
