Amazing! Don't be concerned about roof access to reach your room if necessary. . It's not dangerous by any means and the place is lovely. And you're in the heart of Canterbury and next door to the exceptional Cathedral. Staff is helpful with bags and breakfast. An experience not to miss

Great location and friendly, helpful staff. Rob on the reception desk was particularly helpful giving suggestions of where to eat and what to do. A rather quirky hotel spanning a number of different levels with a roof top walkway to some of the rooms. My room was small but adequate with a desk to work from. The bed was comfortable and the shower was one of the best I have experienced for a long time. Coffee making facilities were provided. I chose the buffet breakfast which, in my case, consisted of toast and porridge but there were other options available. The only downside was the total lack of parking but the hotel has an agreement with one of the nearby public car parks which was a short walk away. Great place to stay, I’d definitely go back there again.

Very friendly, available and helpful. Accommodated my husband's knee issues by putting us on a floor which didn't require too many stairs. A very special location, right next to the entrance to the cathedral in a central square. The continental breakfast was outstanding with beautiful fresh fruit, yogurts etc. We enjoyed the little bar at the end of the day, where we could overlook the square in comfortable seats. I would definitely stay here again.

Had a wonderful time - hotel adjacent to the cathedral so perfect location. Near lots of restaurants, bars and shops - walking distance. Friendly and helpful staff. Bar onsite until 11pm. Communal sitting room. Complimentary water. Continental breakfast included with option of paying for a delicious full cooked breakfast prepared to your liking. Room spacious, lovely and warm, a view of the cathedral a bonus. tea and coffee in room. We parked in a carpark on the hotel’s list, phoned the hotel when parked and they organised the parking ticket for us and just added it to our room bill. Ate in cricketers pub and the old weavers not far from hotel. Recommend pre-booking a table - food delicious. Loved staying at the hotel and can’t wait to go back

The hotel has it's own charme, directly located at the Cathedral, nicely polished up (since our last visit in 2007), offers very friendly service. The slightly complicated distribution of rooms is owed to the old historic building. No direct car parking in the vicinity, but unloading an loading possible. We sure will come back

Ok .. no en suite meaning shared toilet and shower and both were small rooms which is obviously not ideal but at least you know this in advance when you book, so your choice. No lifts, steep and narrow stairs, creaky floorboards, car parks a good 10 minute walk…. but, and critically, unbelievably well located for town and cathedral and very friendly and helpful staff. The continental breakfast options were fine and adequate. Place was clean and tidy, bed comfortable. So do not expect 5 star luxury, it is quirky but price was lower than other nearby hotels reflecting the issues, though nothing In Canterbury was cheap.

Five star service! A quirky 15th century timber framed building a stone’s throw from the Cathedral. Very welcoming and helpful staff, generous (complimentary bottled water and toiletries), tasty breakfast. Parking was easy with their anpr voucher system. Great value for money in the heart of Canterbury. Would happily stay her again.

But my room was big and pretty, and the (included) breakfast was delicious. My room had a shared bath, but it was right next door, spotlessly clean, & only shared with one other room – really no problem. The staff is extremely nice and helpful – on my last afternoon, as I waited for a taxi, the fellow at the desk made me tea. I totally enjoyed staying here.

Warning: A lot of stairs! But if that's not a problem, this is a nice B&B in the middle of the town (can't get much closer than this). Great breakfast and friendly hosts.

Comfortable clean rooms in a very central location. One room overlooking the cathedral was quite small but nevertheless good value for money. The larger room was also warm, comfortable and clean. Staff were friendly and Continental breakfast was set us up for the day. We would certainly return.

The room was clean & cozy. The breakfasts were top notch. The location was perfect for enjoying the old town of Canterbury.

Right in the heart of the historic centre, next to the cathedral. Quaint old buildings to please history buffs. Room clean, pleasant, comfortable, good hot shower. Complimentary continental breakfast nice. Hosts helpful and welcoming.

Very close to the cathedral. Despite that it is an old building, it is tidy and well-maintained. The room(old-style) was clean and tidy. The food was okay. It was quiet at night as the room was facing the cathedral. The surrounding area is nice and has a variety of shops, restaurants and pubs.

Positive remarks 1 Location right next to the cathedral literally. 2 Partial view of cathedral from some rooms. 3 Very good water pressure in shower. Negative 1 The carpets throughout (including the our room room) were shabby and stained. The parking is a far way off. The town’s main area is a closed street, open to pedestrians, however, hotel guests could drive up /out for luggage transfer (only 5 min). Unfortunately when we left they were working on the entrance rd and were unable drive up, therefore had to walk the luggage back to the car. 2 We got locked in the hotel one night. Each guest gets a key to open/ close the main door to the hotel, however, if the lock is turned too far over it locks in and someone from outside has to then unlock the door with a key. The lock then has to be reset by staff to ensure no one gets locked in the building.*****Fire hazard 3 The windows in our room were broken and could not close. We had big black flies coming and going throughout our stay. I only realized the last day when we were leaving that the window has a gap at the top and that’s why we had flies. 4 The wall near this window had the paint completely cracking and was separated from the wall due to water damage probably sustained over a period of time from this window being broken and not repaired. 5 The bed had a slated wood frame with a cheap mattress that left us aching after only 1 night. I would stay somewhere else.

Location is ideal for exploring the city , staff spot on , rooms could do with some modernisation especially the bathroom set up

Last minute stay and found this absolutely lovely establishment with helpful staff, clean room, wonderful breakfast, and great bit of history in the heart of Canterbury .. perfect for enjoying the shops, restaurants, public square, and of course, the amazing Cathedral.

I am a regular solo traveller to Canterbury and couldn't get a room at my regular B&B so i decided to try the Cathedral Gate Hotel as I often thought it looked like an interesting place to stay. I received a warm welcome on arrival and shown to my room which had a view to the bustling market square. My room was clean and comfortable. Canterbury has a lively, noisy nightlife which is to be expected in a busy city centre and earplugs are provided for those who require them! The continental breakfast was delicious and the croissants served straight from the oven were perfect. I loved the building which is around 700 years old with its sloping floors and rabbit warren like corridors! I am looking forward to my next visit to Canterbury and will definitely be booking into the Cathedral Gate, I had a great stay and it is just a 10 minute walk from the train station!

The positives were that it was an amazing location, great staff who were very helpful at check-in, great breakfast and staff were friendly and the rooms were lovely. Being on the front of the hotel, although earplugs were provided (which is a good thought) I am unable to wear them so was woken up a few times with passers-by late at night talking loudly and early deliveries. We did have an option on arrival to go to the back of the hotel for a quieter room but the bathroom door wouldn't open. The other back bedroom was a twin room but the staff were happy to change over to a double if we wanted but we thought the front would have been ok. Unfortunately if you have some mobility issues there may be a problem with stairs to rooms and the front room had less stairs.

Nice hotel, but try to get a room at the back. It's a noisy street, especially if it's hot and you want the window open

This charming historic building has been skilfully adapted to create a hotel full of character. Apart from weak Wi-Fi in our room during a busy period, everything was excellent and the breakfast was outstanding.

The hotel is located right in the city centre so it's great for sightseeing. Our room (en-suite) was of reasonable size for a long weekend. For a longer stay one would have wanted more cupboard and drawer space. The staff were very nice and we appreciated the free bottles of water by the reception. The continental breakfast delivered to the room was of good quality and plentiful. The only downside was the noise coming from the street below, especially on a hot summer night when one wants to keep the window open. Luckily the pubs close to the hotel closed at 11pm after which it was more tranquil.

Loved the location next to the cathedral and center of town. The room was fine, but was on the front street and was warm and loud with street noise at all hours. If you are a light sleeper ask for a room in the back. Great continual breakfast and helpful staff.

The staff was very friendly and helpful, especially helping on the luggage because of no lift. The property is next door to the cathedral and restaurants are surrounded the property. The breakfast was fresh and very basic but you can pay extra to get English breakfast.

No problems at all, staff most helpful, especially when I had an accident and the receptionist, Monica, advised a visit to the Kent and Canterbury hospital where I received excellent help and treatment.

Would happily stay at this property again even if just for the incredible view of Canterbury Cathedral! Special mention to Rob who was incredibly friendly and welcoming!

Great location, attentive staff. The building is really old and floors uneven, gaps in door frames add to its unique charm. Cathedral right in back and Evensong is recommend to hear the organ and choir. Bell ringing practice is Thursday night and goes on for some time. I had a great stay!

Lovely stay right in the middle of Canterbury. Difficult to find but everybody in the Hotel were excellent. I think it was Rob who recommended some excellent restaurants for evening meals. Breakfast was lovely - we had the full English, rooms very clean and well presented.

Location Location Location!! Its 700 years old , it sits right infront of the Cathedral. The maze of stairs and rooftop walkway to my room with views is amazing . Bed was comfortable. Rob is entertaining and customer service was 100 stars. Please expect a 700 year old castle cottage experience, slanted doors and creeky floors.

Cathedral Gate Hotel is a must for anyone who wants to experience the authentic history of Canterbury right in the heart of it. The staff were all exceptional and very knowledgeable about the surrounding area as far as places to visit, places to eat, local history and more. Especially Rob on reception who welcomed us and explained everything we needed to know to get the most out of our stay. The continental breakfast was above and beyond what we expected and was delicious. The rooms had all the essential amenities wrapped up in historic charm…the floors and walls were all uneven with age that added to the ambiance. Highly recommend!

The location and history of the hotel were wonderful. But it was the staff and their warm and friendly reception that made this hotel stand out. Monica’s helpfulness during our stay made such an impression on us and really elevated our experience. The breakfast service and views of the town center from the dining room were also a memorable part of our stay. So glad we found Cathedral Gate for our Canterbury stay.

It was weird having to drive through the busy cobblestone streets to drop my bags off at the hotel. Amazing location. Very central to everything.

Great central point in Canterbury, unique views of the cathedral from outside roof pathway, good simple no fuss breakfast ( hot breakfast need to be preordered) , clean rooms, value for for money excellent. ( beware I am not sure if you turn up v late to check in you can get in the hotel)

This hotel is charming and the staff are pleasant, helpful and ready to meet your needs for local attractions, transportation and comfort. The breakfast is exceptional - fresh fruit salad a real winner!
