Finding the place was crazy. The sign faces east, but we came in from the west. The sign is missing two letters. There is another sign on the ground, broken off from a stand apparently, that would have helped if it had been repaired. The entrance road is a narrow, potholed forest road, needing maintenance. First impressions are important! But the building is nice, and Jon was VERY accommodating and pleasant. The gathering room is a full kitchen. Our room was very clean and comfortable, and spacious. The area is very quiet, birds singing, no neighbors in view. A couple oddities: only one bedside lamp, with low wattage making it hard to read. I moved another floor lamp to the bed side so I could read. Only one pillow per person; hard to read in bed that way. Mattress decent, great comforter on top. Two pictures on the walls are identical pictures. And the rules and regs are a little offputting. Seems heavy handed threatening financial penalties if we break a rule. Overall, we liked our stay very much. We would return again if we ever get the chance.

Great location. Seriously about 2 miles from Hawaii Volcanic National Bank. Check in with code so no time restraint. There are snacks available all day. Room is spacious and clean.

Jon, the property manager was always available, but stayed out of the way. Check in/out was easy and the price was reasonable. Beautiful tranquil place, love it, but parking needs improvement. Parking stalls were unmarked and cars took too much space. Our rental car got stuck in the mud and a rock while trying to find parking in front of the inn. It needed to be towed.

The room was very dirty. The toilet brush was thrown inside the bathroom cabinet. There were only two lightbulbs in the bathroom. The hallway and bedroom is partially painted with paint blotches throughout. The refrigerator is rusted. The continental breakfast is basically fruit granola bars, weak coffee. The lights on our deck did not work Major potholes in the driveway.

Jon was an excellent host. Property is 200 yards from a lightly traveled riad so very quiet. Surrounded by tropical forest only 1 mile from entrance to volcanoes national park and 25 minutes from Hilo. Room was huge, about 27'x21' with a private covered deck to listen to the rain and pheasants who occupy the surrounding forest at night. Building has a sgared common area with common kitchen. We never saw another patron and Jon was discreet. Just what we needed to recharge our batteries and have easy access to a fantasti park.
Jon was an excellent host. Property is 200 yards from a lightly traveled riad so very quiet. Surrounded by tropical forest only 1 mile from entrance to volcanoes national park and 25 minutes from Hilo. Room was huge, about 27'x21' with a private covered deck to listen to the rain and pheasants who occupy the surrounding forest at night. Building has a sgared common area with common kitchen. We never saw another patron and Jon was discreet. Just what we needed to recharge our batteries and have easy access to a fantasti park.

Self check-in is leading edge; every guest gets a unique front door code that works from 3:00 PM on check-in and stops working at 11:00 AM on checkout. Having said that, breakfast is nothing special; pre packaged items pastries and fruit. If you wish, you can cook your own as long as you clean up after yourself.

Nice place, very quiet location. Secluded setting was a little difficult to find at first. Entrance is a long gravel road into a rain forest like location. Not a B&B, but the management provides coffee, teas, fruit, packaged pastries and other items in a large shared kitchen. Location is less than a mile from the entrance to Volcano National Park. Check in and out were done by following instructions on a extensive text message. Be aware that Volcano is a very small town so meal options are a little limited. There's a very nice but expensive resort restaurant and perhaps three owner operated small restaurants. Overall a very nice place to stay.

This property was in a super location and a great price right outside the gate of Volcano National Park as advertised. It was neat and clean for the most part but dated. Very quiet comfy large room. The zero human interaction check in and check out process was a bit dystopian and strange. did not feel very cozy or homey and felt like we were being watched remotely even though we probably werent. Never touched the food or kitchen because I didnt even really understand it. Felt more like a vrbo or air bnb and not sure if i would call it a hotel per se. thanks

Very dated, our room was clean, (musty odor) and location to Volcano Park was very close. Breakfast was great and host was very nice. The property really needs to be overhaled, window screens and windows need to be cleaned, new carpet on front steps replaced, mold on the outside of building, a paint job for sure is needed. Pictures on the website really need to be updated. Make sure you read the fine print about paying a cleaning fee upon check in, We paid and extra $90 + taxes.

Location was great. Overall, the Inn was ok. The common area needed be spruced up and cleaned. The room itself was clean, but had a very strong musty odor. ( I do realise that we were in the rainforest ) . I think the area rug held the odor in. We actually thought about leaving earlier than planned, but we just were there to sleep. All of our communication was done via text and email. We never met the owner.

This place is more a hostel and it has big rooms but spars and the layout is okay. But it's run down and not very clean. Breakfast area is a mess and confusing. It's ridiculously expensive because you have no service and have to clean up after yourself if you want to eat breakfast, which is just really a breakfast snack and limited. And the wonder hiding fee for cleaning. Cleaning fee of $60. But this place is close to the Volcano National Park so that one good plus.

We had a wonderful stay at the Volcano Forest Inn. The large room, access to the full kitchen/common area, the quiet location surrounded by the rainforest, and the private deck allowed us to enjoy a relaxing visit. The inn has a great location just outside the national park. We were able to stop at several places before they became busy. There was a good amount of information on the area and a tv with current info on the volcano. The rooms are well maintained and comfortable. Overall, it was a great visit that I strongly recommend.

Th Volcano Forest Inn was a good place to stay during our trip to the park. The best part was the proximity to the park. It was nothing fancy but we didn’t require it to be. We slept well but the bed was only average. We like the rain forest seclusion.

This is not a traditional B&B. It is a bad Airbnb, complete with chores, fines, and signage everywhere. It is the most unwelcoming place I've ever stayed, truly taking the host out of hospitality. The only time I saw him was when he was when he was on his way out for errands, and he required that I pay the "cleaning and service fee" in cash or Venmo. Shady AF for a commercial establisment. Considering the general lack of cleanliness and service, I have my suspicions. In fact, if you aren't timely enough with this shady fee buried in the extra details of your booking, he locks you out. That's right. He prints your name in large, bold letters, tapes it to the front door, and deactivates your front door code. We liked the location being within 1 mile of the entrance to Hawaii Volcano National Park. Jon our host was wonderful!! He met us upon our arrival and provided us with information for our stay. The Volcano Forest Inn was exactly what we were looking for near the national park.

Jon was very communicative and helpful!! The room was HUGE and just what we needed. We had the Ginger Room which had a nice lanai with sliding doors from the room. So glad we brought our groceries. We used the kitchen and coffee was available in the morning. Coin Laundry down the street. 10/10 I would definitely stay here again!!

The location to the park was amazing, about 5 minutes away which made it easy to go to dinner and then back to check out the lava glow in the dark. The "free breakfast" was essentially a snack basket, with one of the following for each person per night: pre-packaged muffin, instant oatmeal packet, Chewy granola bar, banana. Not exactly what I expected when we picked this place specifically for the free breakfast. They do have a shared kitchen with a shared fridge, so you can make your own meals if that\'s your thing. The bed had a waterproof mattress pad, one of the ones that made a ton of noise when you moved. The sheets and towels were nice and there was a space heater in the room. The reservation I made was for 2 people, yet there was only 1 chair at the table in our room. We each had only one bath towel, which never dried given how humid it was there. My biggest issue with the place was the overall un-welcoming attitude. The day of arrival I got a text with check-in instructions, along with a list of fees for infractions: $50 if you call the host after 9pm, $50 if you are on the property after the check-out time, $100 if you forget to lock the patio door when you leave (along with a warning taped to the door about crime), and charges if you don\'t wash your dishes. The rules are fine, the attitude was rude and the reminders of a camera in common areas was creepy. Overall I wouldn\'t recommend it, and wouldn\'t stay here again.

This property was in a super location and a great price right outside the gate of Volcano National Park as advertised. It was neat and clean for the most part but dated. Very quiet comfy large room. The zero human interaction check in and check out process was a bit dystopian and strange. did not feel very cozy or homey and felt like we were being watched remotely even though we probably werent. Never touched the food or kitchen because I didnt even really understand it. Felt more like a vrbo or air bnb and not sure if i would call it a hotel per se. thanks

Finding the place was crazy. The sign faces east, but we came in from the west. The sign is missing two letters. There is another sign on the ground, broken off from a stand apparently, that would have helped if it had been repaired. The entrance road is a narrow, potholed forest road, needing maintenance. First impressions are important! But the building is nice, and Jon was VERY accommodating and pleasant. The gathering room is a full kitchen. Our room was very clean and comfortable, and spacious. The area is very quiet, birds singing, no neighbors in view. A couple oddities: only one bedside lamp, with low wattage making it hard to read. I moved another floor lamp to the bed side so I could read. Only one pillow per person; hard to read in bed that way. Mattress decent, great comforter on top. Two pictures on the walls are identical pictures. And the rules and regs are a little offputting. Seems heavy handed threatening financial penalties if we break a rule. Overall, we liked our stay very much. We would return again if we ever get the chance.

We had a wonderful stay at the Volcano Forest Inn. The large room, access to the full kitchen/common area, the quiet location surrounded by the rainforest, and the private deck allowed us to enjoy a relaxing visit. The inn has a great location just outside the national park. We were able to stop at several places before they became busy. There was a good amount of information on the area and a tv with current info on the volcano. The rooms are well maintained and comfortable. Overall, it was a great visit that I strongly recommend.

Th Volcano Forest Inn was a good place to stay during our trip to the park. The best part was the proximity to the park. It was nothing fancy but we didn’t require it to be. We slept well but the bed was only average. We like the rain forest seclusion.

Jon was an excellent host. Property is 200 yards from a lightly traveled riad so very quiet. Surrounded by tropical forest only 1 mile from entrance to volcanoes national park and 25 minutes from Hilo. Room was huge, about 27'x21' with a private covered deck to listen to the rain and pheasants who occupy the surrounding forest at night. Building has a sgared common area with common kitchen. We never saw another patron and Jon was discreet. Just what we needed to recharge our batteries and have easy access to a fantasti park.

Very dated, our room was clean, (musty odor) and location to Volcano Park was very close. Breakfast was great and host was very nice. The property really needs to be overhaled, window screens and windows need to be cleaned, new carpet on front steps replaced, mold on the outside of building, a paint job for sure is needed. Pictures on the website really need to be updated. Make sure you read the fine print about paying a cleaning fee upon check in, We paid and extra $90 + taxes.

2 miles outside of the National Park. Like a self serve bed and breakfast. Clean, spacious, comfortable and so quiet. Breakfast of fruit, toast, oatmeal, granola bars and some pastries. It was fun chatting in the kitchen with other guests. It has a great homey vibe. Large kitchen fridge to hold your groceries. It worked great for us for two nights.

The room was great; large, ensuite, and included a heater as it was cool at night. The location is terrific for the Hawaii Volcano NP. Self check-in is leading edge; every guest gets a unique front door code that works from 3:00 PM on check-in and stops working at 11:00 AM on checkout. Having said that, breakfast is nothing special; pre packaged items pastries and fruit. If you wish, you can cook your own as long as you clean up after yourself.

This place is more a hostel and it has big rooms but spars and the layout is okay. But it's run down and not very clean. Breakfast area is a mess and confusing. It's ridiculously expensive because you have no service and have to clean up after yourself if you want to eat breakfast, which is just really a breakfast snack and limited. This is B&B, not a hotel. There were some things which needed fixing (signage, bathroom repairs, and some outside items). The room was spacious and hospitable. Met the host when we were coming back, soaked from a hike amidst a surprise rain and asked if we could dry our clothes. He was friendly and accommodating, though the washer/dryer was not an option for guests. Very kind and helped us a lot. Honestly, I liked the come-and-go breakfast options and shared kitchen for little things. Homey, sometimes a little more than I like, such as throw pillows which are a touch item I don’t need, with cleanliness in mind. Good value for the area. Driveway maintenance would be helpful for those arriving in the dark or managing non-SUV vehicles on rainy days.
