Connaught Lodge

Good location to get to beach. Pool facilities as well. Comfortable room. However restaurant very quiet, not much atmosphere and menu not as good as the first time I visited a few years ago.

Hotel was very nice but building works were going on during our stay which meant no lift access to swimming pool etc. Also parking is hit and miss, i believe hotel should highlight this more when booking, if you want to be parked in hotel then you need to be back there by 4pm, even if disabled, there are 2x spaces but anyone parks in them even non badge holders and this isn't checked by hotel staff Breakfast is very nice

Pros: Friendly staff, good service, comfortable bed, clean room. Very good breakfast, short walk to beach. Cons: Room was quite small and overlooked, had to replace card key twice as it didn't work. Air conditioning unit on wall leaked, no warning about wedding events and how they may affect our stay - i.e. late night disco one night and no access to brasserie the following day. Parking charges!

Hotel and ALL staff were excellent for our 4 night break in Bournemouth. I used the Swimming Pool/Spa for 4 mornings(just after 0700) and it would have been good to see a member of staff in this area….Sauna out of action for 3 mornings…very disappointing…and the pool could have had a good clean out….”bits” of debris floating about. Excellent breakfasts.Used Restaurant for one Evening meal.Scallops starter was very disappointing (reported this,and not charged for).Only a couple of tables occupied in Restaurant, but waited over an hour for main course(Apparently function in another room delayed us)….Perhaps we could have been told this when ordering?

Our room was in an annexe away from main hotel very dated rooms basic pillows wafer thin. Temperamental TV. Breakfast buffet not like photos the reality is tinned prunes tinned peaches,hard bread, cereals topped up ontop of old cereal, hot food ok but tinned mushrooms, thick chewy bacon and sausages that could go threw a tank. For the price dont restrict yourself theres better cafes outside we ate it twice on our stay and disappointed both times. Swimming pool was nice but think they may be selling memberships to non residents as it was busy and certainly not for relaxing good if you want to do lengths. Once again needs a good refurbishment. Hotel looks good but there certainly is better for less. Disappointing!!

Pleasant rooms and public areas. Good pool but can soon get a bit crowded. Good to have spacious gardens to relax or have meals in. Staff very polite and helpful. Would have preferred bar to have served snacks rather than only have expensive restaurant for meals. Pool should have an attendant on duty for safety (none on the 3 occasions I used it).

Our stay was good & the area is perfect distance to the beach & also to town The property looks very run down compared to the photos & there was a horrible motor noise the whole time we were there The room was very dusty & general cleanliness was not very high. Every time you turned the tap there was a really loud vibrating noise which was very off putting. The bathroom shower was mouldy & put me off using it.

Bed was comfy, room was dirty dust everywhere hairs all over the bathroom sink, no phone in room, no iron, no soap in bathroom to was hands walls quite thin so could hear people in the rooms near byhowever overall noise of the hotel was quiet.

Decent size room, the lodge is looking somewhat dated on the outside but inside it is clean and tidy.

Please understand I am not the type of person to usually complain and often shy away from saying something, however, in this case I simply have to so future guests have the details they need. I paid just over £80 for this booking and would be inclined to never use Expedia again based on this cost for such a poor hotel. The hotel floor was filthy with toxic green stains on the carpet. Room 238 if you wish to check. The bath didn’t hold water. The shower water pressure was beyond pointless. The staff were friendly on reception but I believe this was the only person working as there was nobody manning the bar, to the point I gave up waiting and left, even after asking someone nobody came. The spa was ok, but the smell in the gents changing rooms was incredible, and not in a good way. I couldn’t and wouldn’t ever shower in there!! It was foul!! Overall I would say this was on par with a £25 a night hostel type and I genuinely feel mid-sold based on the very good grading by Expedia and the price paid. Unless this is corrected, I don’t believe I’d trust this site going forwards. Many thanks for your time and I appreciate this isn’t a good review. But it is a very honest one. Andy

On arrival we parked the car and got given the permit, our room wasn’t ready so we went to town. When we came back we got given our room number, which was in the lodge. We realised there was a wedding that day in the same building and we was directly above it. Reception hadn’t told us this. We asked to move which was told there was only one room on the 3rd floor but a twin, in the same building so we decided to stay in our room. We Was then told it was £10 to park the car. The room was grim, dirty, old, shower head full of limescale, sink filthy. The music was so loud we decided to move. Twin room, was t much better music was still loud, pictures broken, old, tired. Only thing different bathroom was cleaner. The hotel said they had told me about the wedding when booking but this wasn’t the case. I got a email in the evening informing me of the parking and functions. Quite clearly there is some sort of miscommunication with the hotel and this platform. The hotel part looked nice and potentially has much nicer rooms but I can’t comment as we we didn’t stay in this section. We go away once a year and chose this hotel on its pictures and reviews. There is a pool, sauna etc but the sauna was broken, not that we was told this at reception. The only positive the hotel gave us one drink voucher as I mentioned it was our 10 year anniversary. Safe to say it’s not a memorable stay and I feel really upset with the whole experience.

The photos are extremely complimentary - and the actual rooms are dark, old and not pleasant to be in. Staff were fine. Breakfast sucks. Parkings a nightmare (you have to pay, but good luck fitting a normal sized car in the bays). Also, as a note to the hotel, contacting me via whatsapp is not as cool as you think it is. intrusive and unprofessional. Unbelievable cost per night considering the age and state of the Lodge. Wouldn't stay again.

I came to this hotel for a spabreak as read online it was an excellent spa hotel. My room was comfortable and had everything i needed. However the spa facillities were quite dissapointing. There are dirty areas and litter around the poolside. There were young children and babies with nappies on in the jacuzzi this is most unacceptable,as is extremely unhygienic and also dangerous for young babies. There were toddlers with inflatables in the jacuzzi aswell. Parents should be responsible in keeping their offspring under supervision and should adhere to rules around the spa area such as no phones,no children in the jacuzzi etc.but sadly they fail to do so. I would strongly suggest much larger,clearer signage in the jacuzzi area forbidding access to children and use of phones. Also after spending a while in the spa area myself i noticed a considerable lack of attendance by the spa staff in keeping the rules adhered to. They only popped their head round the door very seldomely. So after spending one night at the hotel and paying an extra £30 to use the spa the next morning and finding myself anxious and concerned about the above i went home feeling stressed rather than destressed and felt i needed a good wash. Not what youd expect of a spa break in a reputable Hotel.

Enjoyable stay, lovely to have the pool and spa. Breakfast was good too. The bed was comfortable but the pillows were very flat. The bathroom was huge but the limescale in the sink was a bit off putting. Staff all very friendly.

Room size was good

The room was above a function for a wedding so was noisy all night and during the night. Bathroom door just slide across so not very private. Breakfast was limited, so they cooked some fresh but left the original on the plate and we had to ask to keep it warm. The second morning the freshly cooked food was just tipped on top of the older food in the warmer plates.

I was here for one night in a single room in the lodge. The room was on the top floor at the front of the lodge. The bathroom facilities are tiny, but functional. The door to the room let in a lot of light from the hallway, meaning I had to place a towel at the bottom of the door to be able to sleep. Air con was great though, with a nice quiet setting for night time. I used the pool first thing, which was busy with other early risers but beware! It’s about 20 degrees c! In the end I used the showers in the changing room because it looked cleaner than the room, albeit a push tap so took ages to rinse. I had a meal the night before, it was nice but a very hearty portion of pasta with roasted tomato and burrata: I couldn’t finish it Parking was questionable - some of the spaces are very narrow; thankfully an event was loading up when I got there and they helped me reverse into a space - without them I think I would have struggled. Definitely not a place for a mini break, but for work, it’ll do.

The sheets were uncomfortable, the pillows were old and really bad, and even when I received two additional ones, they were really uncomfortable. The internet worked intermittently. Very disappointing.

Just a couple of niggles. Wifi didn't work in hotel or lodge. When changing the room, forgot to give me a clean towel. No information about what to do in Bournemouth - might had helped

Disappointingly small room with poor air circulation. Bathroom very small. Loud music on first night from event. Away from main hotel.

Terrible. Room was much too small. Bathroom was tiny ( I could have had a S**t and a shave at the same time) Pictures shown are not of the rooms in Connaught Lodge So bad I left after one night.

On the positives, staff during breakfast service were very welcoming and friendly. The pool and spa area were lovely. Thick fluffy towels in the room with bottled water, coffees, teas etc replenished every day. Great location with lots of bars and restaurants and a small shop,within minutes. Negatives- we booked a hotel room but we’re allocated a room in the lodge. This wouldn’t have been too much of an issue as they were only a sort distance across a courtyard from each other, however on our final night, a Friday,they had a wedding and music was blaring until midnight. Had we of been in the hotel as we expected it wouldn’t have been an issue, As it was we were unable to sleep until the music stopped and guests left. The parking is chargeable at £8 daily if you don’t book direct with them. Free on road parking is scarce. The spa receptionist was not very welcoming. It was our first visit but we’d guessed we had to sign in and she made no attempt to check if we needed towels or instruction on where to go just ignored us until we asked. Food at breakfast was plentiful, but tepid on 2 days. I waited 20 minutes on two occasions for poached eggs ordered from the kitchen upon our arrival. Lovely when they arrived. The coffee was horrendous! Instant not filter. Barely drinkable. I am not normally one to complain but this was a week day trip which although discounted would have cost a good deal more.The least they can do is provide proper coffee!

The hotel is close to the ocean and a few minutes away from downtown Bournemouth. The people at the front desk are very helpful.

Very cold welcome, no smile nor warm courtes, treated like a customer buying a takeaway in busy shop. Clearly struggling with directions to my room in an outbuilding but just kept getting repeat instructions, one of the 3 people on the counter (not doing anything else) could have easily stepped out with me a guided me to my room. Room was tiny and the bathroom ridiculously small, could just about get in sideways. Being a first time customer thought they would try and impress for return custom. Not checked SPA facilities so cannot comment.

Great location for the beach and the centre of town. Hotel beautiful and clean. Breakfast was great with a good choice of cooked options, all freshly prepared. Really enjoyed the Bluewater Spa and Brasserie menu. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Good hotel overall, good value for money. Staff was helpful and quick to address any request (there was a whatsapp chat for any query). The spa facilities were the highlight of my stay! The room was confortable, however the room and some of the premises had a bit of a dated feel. Noisy at night with music due to wedding reception and garden area was not clean in the morning. Breakfast was a buffet, it was basic and used low quality ingredients, I didn’t enjoy it much but I guess you get what you pay for.

Really disappointed, I paid to upgrade my room...what a terrible mistake Safe didn't work TV remote didn't work Kettle lid fell off Shower was garbage Communal hallways and landing is disgusting, at best 2* Health Club? That is a dump! Gym equipment, at least 20 years old.... jacuzzi had hardly no power jets, Positive is all the staff are lovely, apart from Maria the duty Manager who was supposed to contact me with my stay issues, how strange to this day I've still not heard from her....

location is good but rooms need updating and cleaning, chiped paintwork on walls and skirting boards. parking spaces are very small and would struggle to park there at peak times.

Great value and a short walk to the BIC for a concert (also close to the town and beaches). Comfortable, clean and good parking - I believe parking is free if you book direct, we paid £8 as we booked through an agent. Really lovely, friendly and helpful receptionist

For our short two night stay this hotel was perfect. It is well located, has ample parking and the staff are friendly and efficient. We would certainly stay again on our next visit.

Reception was professional, property maintenance is bad for a four star hotel. Cleanliness of room not great. Spa facilities dirty, smelly, broken down spa bath,sauna. Very old decor and lockers in spa facility area. Would not recommend for spa day. Food over priced and they add 10 percent on top. 10 pound a day for parking for guests...Why. Breakfast should be included. Lack of milk, coffee in room. Comfy bed , good telly.

Lovely hotel. Bed a little too firm for me but fine for my husband. Shower over bath had hair in plug hole which need a good clean out as when I removed some of it it was black and smelt unpleasant. Apart from that the hotel was lovely. Breakfast very good indeed. All nice and hot. The pool was a decent size and not too cold. My only other criticism was that they automatically added 10% to every penny you spent with them. There are no drinks prices up so you don’t realise you are getting this 10% added on unless you just happen to notice a very very small one liner . Be warned if you don’t want to pay a service charge at the bar for your alcoholic drinks or tea’s and coffee’s tell the server when you order as it’s not obvious that they add on this extra charge. Apart from that it’s a nice hotel in a very good location close to the beach.

Only stayed one night and everything was excellent but if I was staying longer the room is small and bathroom even smaller! This was not a problem for me, I suspect it would be for someone who is larger than 5’4” and 9 stone! Anyone booking a single room should bear this in mind. Apart from that the room was lovely and exceptionally clean, the bed extremely comfortable and bedding crisp and fresh white cotton. Breakfast was amazing.

Breakfast was cold nothing apart from the toast was hot(because you put it in the toaster yourself)what they had it in was not adequate in keep it hot, from what i heard they are aware the food is cold. The room was spacious and relatively clean, bed was not the most comfortable and the pillows were flat. Would definitely recommend the spa and massage

Me and my friend came here for a night and it was great. Rooms are nice, breakfast was good especially for the price and facilities are great. Only downside was that the sauna was closed but that’s not really a major problem. Great pricing for what you get thanks for the night. Would definitely recommend and will most likely be coming here again!!

Over the years my family and I have stayed here many times and I’m happy to say that the high standards we have previously experienced, are ongoing. Excellent staff, great facilities and a fantastic breakfast. Sadly we didn’t get a chance to use the pool and leisure facilities due to our own busy schedule, but next time we will be sure to plan less and do more! Keep up the good work all at the Connaught.

We ate in the restaurant and found it to be much better than we imagined. Staff were great and food delicious would highly recommend the cod, and my husband had the pulled pork excellent.

Great staff, so courteous. Don’t skip on the breakfast. It was worth every penny.
