I didn't have many options when I was looking for a hotel to stay during Thanksgiving weekend. The good thing about this hotel was that it was very close to a metro hub. But, I think I got bed bug bites.. That was my fear of choosing a cheaper hotel. Even so, it cost about $200/night on this weekend. It was a lesson to learn from.

Small hotel in downtown close to a Metro station. There is an underground parking garage just up the street where the Montreal Police park some of there vehicles (so very safe). Cost is CAD $18 for 24 hours.

I think it's important to set the record straight because doesn't deserve the negative reviews it sometimes gets. Yes, it's cheap, so don't expect luxury. However, the bed was so comfortable I slept like a log. The bathroom was clean. There was a TV and my room had a fridge. The staff are also golden. Some of the nicest staff I've encountered when checking in. They're really sweet and want their guests to be satisfied. Yes, there's no lift, so that's worth bearing in mind if you're hauling heavy luggage around. You also don't get breakfast, but you're in the middle of Montreal so not a huge problem. You get what you pay for. The area around the hotel has social problems with homelessness etc, but it's not threatening. You also see lots of tourists and people going about their business. Just temper your expectations to what you're paying and you'll be fine. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again if I was in Montreal.
