The Sebastian’s hotel was ideally situated for visiting everything in Amsterdam. The staff were welcoming and helpful and the room was amply sized. We had a semi-basement room, which was fine for sleeping, but did get very warm and the air conditioning was not very efficient. Our other issue was that the king size bed had a double duvet, so we wrestled with it. Breakfast was freshly made, but the choice was quite limited. We enjoyed our stay and would use the hotel again

Hotel Sebastians is ideally situated by the Keizersgracht canal and within easy walking distance of the Centraal station and the many other attractions. Hotel was very clean and comfortable although a little dingy and dated. Staff were friendly, helpful and accomodating. Breakfast was a bit expensive and had to be ordered the night before but after asking we able to just have Croissants and coffee. After feedback to the hotel they are now going to offer this as an option.

A hidden gem of a hotel. Beautiful building nestled in a quiet residential area. Well situated for access to the station and rest of the city. Rooms are modern, comfortable and clean, decorated and fitted to a high standard. Triple room was spacious and perfect for 2 adults and a teenager. The hotel doesn’t have a restaurant so maybe not for you if that’s needed. You can pre order breakfast to be served to you table in the beautiful bar area - we preferred to go out. Staff are really lovely and so helpful. They provide restaurant recommendations for different meals which was a really nice touch -seriously recommend Winkels for the apple pie! Would definitely return to Hotel Sebastian.

We had a family size room for 2 and it was roomy and nice,with an LG air conditioner with remote to cool the room . Although there was an elevator to the floor, there were additional steps to get to our room which were not mentioned, but this was not an issue for us personally. There was no airport shuttle offered, so we took train to Centraal station from airport, and walked to the Sebastian hotel from there.Breakfast was not included so we ate elsewhere with plenty of places to walk to.

We paid a little extra for a room overlooking the canal! Beautiful windows that open out, to a lovely view. The room was small but well equipped. The hotel has a lift which is helpful as the stairs are steep! 15 euros for a good breakfast & the staff are friendly & helpful.

It is a really nice hotel in a quiet and safe neighborhood. The hotel staff are excellent and very friendly. It is a smaller, non-big chain hotel. The thing to note is all great food and dining options are at least a 10 mins walk. There are a couple of spots nearby - but they don’t offer much options. It is also a short 15 mins walk to most tourist attractions. The walk is mostly flat. The hotel itself offers very little by way of food options. Overall, it is a good property and the people are amazing.

The staff at the desk was incredibly helpful and friendly. We arrived early, they took our bags and checked them behind the desk for us which allowed us to tour the city for a few hours until our room was ready. Our accommodation was comfortable, clean, and modern. We didn't care for the scents of the provided shampoos and body wash (very spicy), but that's minor - glad we had our own. We were located next to the main door on the first floor which is very loud and does not close gently, so be prepared for a lot of slamming noises - many people are not considerate of others. The hotel is very reasonably priced and in walking distance of a lot of great things; wonderful location for food, attractions, canal stops, etc. Would definitely use this hotel again.

I’ve stayed in Amsterdam nine times and have never experienced anything like this. My stay at this hotel (Oct 21–26, 2025) became a nightmare when my room started to smell strongly of sewage. The first night was fine, but by the third night, the smell was unbearable. Staff acknowledged the odor immediately and took apart the shower, then sprayed a harsh chemical scent to mask it, which made things even worse. When I returned later, the smell was stronger than before. The staff admitted they had been discussing the issue in a group chat all day, yet they did nothing to properly fix it. One even tried to gaslight me by saying it was “normal because of the rain.” I asked to speak with the manager but was told they were unavailable and only communicating by text. The hotel was fully booked and refused to move me, offering only a free drink and breakfast if I stayed in the same room… which was completely unlivable. I had to leave two days early and find another hotel at my own expense (about $750 CAD more), plus an Uber, and I had to pay city tax again since they refused to refund the unused nights. They eventually agreed to refund the final two nights, but the amount offered was less than what I paid. Their follow-up response focused only on “fixing it for future guests” and showed no accountability or care. The room was uninhabitable, my clothes now smell like sewage and chemicals, and the handling of the situation was appalling. I will never stay here again.

The staff was very nice and the property is in an amazing location. However, we were a bit disappointed with the room. The blanket on the bed and some towels were stained. There was a strong perfume smell that was obviously covering a bad smell. Sure enough, a day in, our room smelt like sewage.

We zaten in de basementkamer met een raampje aan de gracht. Een voorzetraam zou helpen om de geluidsoverlast te verminderen zo kun je elk gesprek letterlijk volgen. Ook hadden we de pech dat ze in de ochtend vroeg al aan de kade aan het werken waren en de kasseien in een bak gooide. Wat nogal wat lawaai gaf maar het hotel uiteraard niets aan kan doen. Eén beetje rekening houden met het zacht dicht laten vallen van de deuren kan dan weer wel. Ook bleek er een stroomstoring te zijn, het is dan best donker op die kamer. Toch maar in het donker gaan douchen gezien het ontbijt op een vaste tijd wordt afgesproken (geen buffet, je kruist aan wat je de volgende dag graag wil eten). Vervolgens bleek de douchebak compleet te overstromen, zo de kamer in. De rioollucht was overigens wel uit het putje verdwenen. Al bij al een enerverend verblijf, en voor ruim 200 euro (excl ontbijt van 15€pp) ondanks de prachtige locatie best ruim aan de prijs.

Although they warn about room size being small, I found them uncomfortably small (Tokyo style), where you cannot open a piece of luggage or even walk around the bed properly. Fab view of canal from room but room was TINY - and this was the standard canal view room not the small canal view room. No space to open suitcases on the floor but loved the little stools in the window to watch the canal life go by. Bathroom was beautifully done but miniscule - barely enough room to turn around (felt like camper van bathroom). Wall paint and decor was old and needs updating. Staff were really nice and loved the boutique feel of it with cute bar and older building. Fantastic location within walking distance (10-15 mins) to central station and down the canals. Very pricey for such a small room but nice to be on the canal.

We stayed in a room that seemed to be not often used. The fridge didn’t work and half of the inside security lock had just never been installed. As hard as we tried, we couldn’t figure out the heat in the room do it just kept getting hotter and hotter. They don’t have the front desk staffed past 11pm so there was no one that could help us. There were no windows to open just an exterior glass door, so we opened that. As we were in a ground floor room this made us quite concerned for our safety.

Small hotel, but quaint. Great location on the ca al, and you can walk to everything. We had a double double room as our adult son was staying with us. The room was a good size with a very nice large bathroom with a separate tub and shower. it was very quiet at night so we all slept well. I would recommend it to friends, but dont think I'd stay there again as there are many choices in Amsterdam for less money. Keep in mind there's fairly large city tax that they charge you when you check in.

I was scheduled to stay on the Friday night prior to my Saturday Viking cruise. Delta canceled my JFK flight due to mechanical issues Thursday evening at 11pm. We had to find a hotel near JFK and wait for next day's flight. It was awful. At 11:36pm Thursday evening (5:36am Amsterdam time - very early in the day of the refundable reservation), I notified Hotel Sebastian of the flight cancelation beyond my control and asked them to refund my reservation as they would have a full day to fill the room as it was a refundable reservation. They said that I had to process the cancelation through Hotels.com as I made the reservation there. Hotels.com was 100% willing to refund me the full amount if Hotel Sebastian agreed, but they refused - twice. I think this stinks. I don't know if they pocketed my $213 and rented the room to someone else, but with a full day, they had the time to. It's bad business. If you are looking for a hotel the day before a Viking cruise, I suggest you look elsewhere in case you have a flight issue like I had.

The location is excellent, close to the Anna Frank House, restaurants, the Dam Square, and more. The hotel is cute, modern, and clean, but the rooms are tiny even for European standards. The staff are ok, some nicer than others, and not always so helpful. In general, I would recommend the Sebastians.

The staff was amazing. Friendly, helpful and going beyond in helping us. I believe the front desk clerk was Moto, sorry if it’s misspelled. My husband came back to the hotel because he was not feeling well. The staff was extremely helpful to him. I don’t catch the females staff name, but she too was friendly and helpful. The night clerk made my drinks at the bar it is was a perfect espresso martini!

Clean and tidy rooms! Arrived early and left our bag before we could check in, when we came back the bag was already in the room. After checking out we left our bag for a couple of hours and picked up before going to the airport, very easy and nice service for no extra charge! Friendly staff with good recommendations for transport, restaurants etc etc!

Sebastian's Hotel is located in an area that is within walking distance (if you are relatively fit) of Central Station, the Rjiks Museum, the VanGough museum, Anne Frank House, (many other museums), numerous canal tour companies, lots of parks, restaurants and bars, and a variety of shopping opportunities. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I definitely recommend staying here.

Great location, the staff is incredibly friendly and attentive. The front desk person was multilingual and made us feel comfortable from the moment we arrived. Their front desk and bar area is very nice. They had good breakfast options and you must order a day in advance. Rooms are nice. Air Conditioning Unit was not adequate for the size of our room. Room was nearly 30 Celsius (86 Fahrenheit) using the AC full speed and a stand up fan. For those experiencing Europe for the first time; not having AC units working properly is a thing across multiple countries. You’ll struggle finding decent Air Conditioning. =) great location, we were able to walk to main attractions and the Centraal Station. Overall good experience.

Great hotel with a short walking distance to stores, cafe’s and restaurants. The staff is very accommodating to your needs and requests. They provide you with a list of top rated restaurants around the area.
