Mansions on Fifth

We stayed in the second building. No elevator. Was not stated in the description.

They told us there was an elevator, there was not. It does not go to the third floor and the staff did not care about the issue.

We loved this historic mansion and would definitely stay again! Uber/Lyft readily available so we parked in the lot and either walked or got rides easily our whole stay. The mansion itself was beautiful and the room had everything we needed. The only negative was the breakfast- not worth the upcharge.

Be sure to have a cocktail at the bar. Lisa makes awesome drinks and great conversation

A really cool, really unique place! The room was wonderful, very large, and the place felt nicely old school, but up to date in terms of amenities and comfort. Parking is free, it's close to many things, and the experience was great. One drawback was that they were hosting a wedding the next day, so some of the lobby was removed, and there were some pre-wedding revelers who took over the bar -- but that was a minor issue.

Beautiful historic building conveniently located in the Shadyside neighborhood. Very convenient free parking in a Pittsburgh hotel, which is usually inconvenient and expensive. We enjoyed meeting our family in the beautiful cocktail lounge, and the staff was very pleasant and most accommodating. My only criticism is that our room furniture was somewhat worn, with scratches in the wood, chipped edges, etc. The bathroom itself had been recently renovated, and the room itself was very clean.

Beautiful building, furniture and stained glass. Difficult area for travelers to get to. Breakfast was overpriced and not served warm enough.

Lovely mansion, friendly, helpful staff. Annex did not have elevator; had to carry bags to top floor (3rd floor).

Very conveniently located. No microwave in the room. No free coffee in the lobby. Unique hotel. Staff were wonderful. Arduous climb to the third floor rooms with luggage. No elevator.

True to its name, this hotel looks like a mansion from the outside. The room is spacious, clean, and wonderfully quiet!

Parking was awful, we didn’t realise we weren’t in the main house which was the reason we chose, our room had an ant problem and admittedly they did credit our account a percentage for that. Housekeeping made our bed but nothing else, left ant filled cups, didn’t refresh towels or empty trash. Staff were mostly uninterested in us. Facilities don’t warrant it being called a luxury hotel.

Couldn't control the temperature in my room....room too cold. No change of towels, no replacement of coffee, no room service at all. Elevator worked sporadically.

Cute little property. The cleaning wasn't done well for the room, lots of hair and dirt left behind when I checked into the new room. It's very hard to find the rooms after check in at the reception, so was getting with luggage

If the purpose of your trip is to be near CMU, this is a great hotel due to its proximity. For anything else, this is a very average hotel, unless you really love the old archaic mansion style. You get a good amount of room, but the space is not very high quality. The bathroom was old, very little light, and then furniture is quite old (again, if you like this kind of thing then this is great). Additionally, they somehow were not able to finish cleaning my room by 3pm (or at least they prioritized other rooms, even though it didn't seem like there were a lot of people staying at the time?), and so when I got back at 3:45pm (tired) I couldn't be bothered to wait for them to clean it. That's not terrible, but when I asked the front desk worker if the hotel could clean it by 3pm the next day, they said that they couldn't guarantee it, and ADDITIONALLY accused me that the only reason they didn't the day before was because I had put the "Do not disturb" sign on (which I definitely did not, they knew I hadn't put that up the prior day because they called me asking if I wanted it cleaned at around 5-6pm, to which I said no). To be clear, the issue wasn't so much that they missed the cleaning, it was what happened the next day. To summarize, a very average experience for a supposed "4-star hotel" (I would say it is much, much closer to a 3-star or even 2-star hotel in my experience).

Clean and comfortable, charming.

My husband and I really enjoyed our stay at Mansions on Fifth. It's a beautifully restored historic property in a great location. Everything was spotless and well-maintained. Staff were friendly and helpful. We used the small gym and the breakfast was delicious.

Very cool property with amazing architecture and spacious room. Quality of bed linens could be better. Window blinds very dirty but room was otherwise clean. Views amazing. Just a little more attention to detail would have earned better rating but overall we enjoyed our stay. Pub awesome although we didn’t have time to enjoy. Would likely stay again.

The room has no refrigerator. I was not told when I checked in. I bought a lot of food and had to through them away next day as there is no refrigerator. I kept on calling the hotel manager in the ladt three days and didn't hear any call back after I left massage to the manager.

This is a beautiful old home and the charm is its unique features such as crown molding, 15-foot ceilings, and painted frescoes on the walls/ceiling. Our room was on the front of the building which was quite noisy. The hotel is beginning to show its age, but overall we had a lovely time.

Im paying luxury rates for a room where the heat does not work. My room was lower that 60 the entire time. So im told this is due to historic renovation...I get a space heater like a cheap motel...no discount. I had called the desk numerous times....after 7.00 pm forget it, no one around. Ive had better experiences at a Holiday Inn. Never again.

The complete property is beautiful. The classic feel all around is comforting and elegant. The size of the room and bathroom is amazing. The main lobby is impressive. The only detail that should be taken into consideration: the size and amount of soap in the bathroom and the lack of water bottles to drink is important.

What made things worse was that there was a ventilation vent in the room right next to the bed that made a constant noise all night long—it sounded like being on an airplane. I couldn’t sleep at all and only dozed off around 5 a.m. But then at around 9:30 a.m., a cleaning staff member suddenly came in without knocking. They just opened the door and walked in. When they saw my son and me still sleeping, they said, “Oh, you’re still here? I thought you had already left.” The whole experience was terrible. I barely slept—just a little over three hours—and just when I finally did, someone barged in and startled us. We’re exhausted, especially since we have to attend my son’s university tour today.

This hotel a long time ago was a large mansion that’s been converted to a hotel. The architectural styling looks good from that long ago era. But the room we stayed at was showing its age with scratches on the doors and walls, a creaking floor when we walked on it, a bathroom door that’s hard to close. The room was not that quiet during the night as the walls aren’t sound proof as occupants of a neighboring room was overheard very loud with their talks and music, so I had to put on my earplugs, but good thing they did quiet down after 11pm. Parking spaces are limited so I had to park along the perimeter fence. There is no onsite restaurant other than the breakfast option that’s available in the morning and the drinks from the bar, also there are no food vending machines so I had to go offsite for food or get food delivered. The bed was comfortable and at checkin I was asked if I wanted the room to be serviced or go with no service, I didn’t see any difference in the cost. I’ll probably won’t stay here again and will stay at a more full service modern hotel.

Came to stay here due to location near Shadyside hopsital, where I had surgery the next day. What a beautiful property. Friendly staff, especially our bartender. She was young, but easy to talk to and had knowledge beyond her years. We didnt eat here, so can not attest to that. Beds were confortable. Rooms very large and the interior was like a european hotel. Dark woods with Great history.

Wonderful stay walking distance from the CMU campus. House is beautiful. Only recommendation is strengthen the WiFi, much needed for business or students connecting to do homework.

The mansions on Fifth are, first of all, gorgeous inside and out. Upon arrival, I was met by a staff member who held the door for me and asked if I required help with any luggage. He then explained some history of the property when I began asking questions about it. I felt very welcomed right away. Check-in was simple and prompt. I stayed in the Amberson house, which is located next to the main building. My room was on the second floor. I could hear some people upstairs during my stay, but it was muffled and not loud at all so I was unbothered. The room has plenty of natural lighting, equipped with all my needs. I felt very safe here. I wish the bathtub had a functional plug so I could have taken a bath, but the shower worked wonderfully so it's not an issue. There is light traffic outside, nothing crazy, so it still felt calm inside. They offered breakfast for $15/person, which I declined. Check-out was also quick and easy. Overall, I would certainly recommend. I hope to return and hear the piano of the main house played sometime.

We booked this hotel and when we reached the hotel for check in, they did not let us in as there was a wedding on their premises. They said no rooms were available and the parking lot was full. They overbooked themselves and did nothing to help us out. Luckily, Expedia (especially Koena and Ursula) helped us out and made rebooked us at the Oaklander that night. Will never go the Mansion on Fifth again.

We booked the room same day as we were driving in from out of town. Prepaid with confirmation number. When we arrived they said they were fully booked and, “yeah, this happens all the time.” Obviously could not have cared less that we were forced to scramble for a room. Would not recommend.

Receptionist at front desk was unfriendly during check-in and check-out. Acted as though we were bothering her. We made brunch reservations for the next morning at 10:15AM. The front desk (same lady) called at 9:30AM the next morning to say that they couldn't guarantee they would have a table for us at our reservation time. I asked if we could wait and was advised that they could not guarantee that they could seat us at all and suggested we cancel. No apology whatsoever.

This is a beautiful building and lovely location (pretty neighborhood and close to CMU and shops/restaurants). Parking is safe, easy and free. The staff was the opposite of welcoming-- surly and annoyed and I'm not sure why. We were checked in as four people and provided only three towels, three pillows, two plastic cups and one roll of toilet paper. I did not dare to ask for more because of the attitude from staff at check in. There is no coffee in lobby in the morning and the in-room coffee is sad coffee. The rooms are charming but in need of some updates.

This is a very beautiful property and only 0.4 miles to CMU. The surrounding of the property is quiet and safe, there is a bus stop close and we can go around by bus. The front desk people is very nice.

Fantastic location to town, the college and the museums. We walked to all of these multiple times leaving the car behind. Our 3rd floor room we a bit warm one afternoon when it was 90* outside, but other than that we enjoyed our little hideaway.

Beautiful historic property in great neighborhood.

The room is clean. We stay at a king-bed room with a sofa bed, they’re comfortable. The mansion and the house is amazing: full of old time styles and with beautiful garden. We took a lot of pictures of them. BTW, the hotel stays at a quiet and safe community and near CMU campus. It’s easy to find delicious foods too.

This is a beautiful place!! Inside and out. I was in awe the whole visit. The staff including the bartender are very nice and helpful I will definitely go back when I revisit Pittsburgh

The lobby is magnificent. The grounds are beautiful. However, our room on the third floor was just average. The bed was uncomfortable. The shower didnt drain well. We made breakfast reservations for 8:15 but when we got there at 8:20 there were no tables available. Im not sure why they would take more reservations than they have room for. There was a sign that said "please seat yourself" so its entirely possible that some diners did not have reservations. As a result, we ended up going elsewhere for breakfast. We couldnt check out due to a power outage but the front desk staff promised I would receive a copy of charges by email but i never did.

The hotel was a fantastic look into mansions at the beginning of the 1900's. The woodwork and design was lovely, and the owners did a great job of converting it to a boutique hotel. There were a few quirks that probably could stand some updating, the elevator is very slow and doesn't go to the third floor, but for the money it was a fantastic stay in a beautiful atmosphere and we had a wonderful time. The breakfast and the bar in the evening was lovely also. Definetely will come back!

Awesome old mansion. Amazing architecture. Breakfast was excellent - cooked to order and very affordable. Service was top-notch. They even wrapped up some muffins for us to take on the car ride home! All this, and only a short walk to Carnegie Mellon University. Would definitely stay here again.
