The Kingswood Hotel

A lovely last-minute stay in the Kingswood. Really impressed with the designated parking. We were greeted warmly by all staff, we slept really well and breakfast was freshly cooked to order. We will definitely be back.

The hotel itself is lovely. The food - both breakfast & dinner are superb. The staff are all exceptionally friendly & helpful. The room itself was small but very well equipped & clean. THE BIG ISSUE with this hotel is it's lift. If you are unfortunate to get a room anywhere this all you will hear is a loud "clank & bang" every time it is used. Really distracting when in the room...& worse when trying to get to sleep.

Just a one night stay but would be happy to return. Easy parking with space allocated at rear of hotel. Sea view with balcony, comfortable bed, great staff, good value as well.

The lift door problem

So as we were driving down to Devon we were running a little late. Liz on reception took the trouble to ring us and check our ETA so that we wouldn't have any difficulty getting in when we arrived. Top drawer. She had also rang me earlier in the week to sort out our parking as she suspected email wasn't working. And on top of that they're dog friendly. In fact most of Sidmouth is dog friendly.

The Kingswood Hotel is a right on the seafront in Sidmouth. The hotel is welcoming with a light and airy dining room and bar and lounge area with board games, overlooking the beach. The staff were polite, welcoming and helpful. I stayed here on a business trip and ate breakfast here, but no other meals. The breakfast was delicious with a large choice of both cooked items from the menu, but also an extensive breakfast buffet including items such as berry compote, fruit salad, cereal and yogurt and juices. I had a comfortable and enjoyable stay and would definitely like to stay here again, when in Sidmouth.

Excellent stay - hotel and staff excellent with car park. No problems

We were both very happy with room, unfortunately was right at top of hotel, but didn't mind as we were out the way of buzy floors below. Good morning breakfast, staff very helpful. Bar and reception area good. Would stay again.

Very clean and service excellent. Booked a standard double room, this was quite small and the shower very tiny, anyone of large build would not get in it. No other complaints.

Room seemed clean but had a strange smell. No toiletries provided apart from liquid soap. WiFi was not good. Breakfast was disappointing.

Receptionist was very friendly and helpful on arrival and upgraded us to a lovely balcony room which was a lovely surprise. All the staff were very welcoming. This hotel is being looked after very well. Breakfast was yummy and the selection was good, everything you could wish for. I loved the freshly baked pastries they were sooo good. We have been to this hotel twice and we will be returning there hopefully in a few months.

And older hotel, which has had a bit of life put back into it. Bathroom was tidy and quite modern convenient would be the word. The big plus with this Hotel would be the staff. Smile on their face. I’m happy to help.

We were very impressed with the friendliness of the staff and the comfort in the rooms. Both the bedroom and the public rooms were very clean and well maintained. The breakfast and evening meals were superb and we did enjoy having a freshly cooked breakfast brought to our table rather than a buffet style self service where the food had been hanging around. The overall impression was of happy staff creating a pleasant atmosphere

Very noisy bell for the lift.

I had a rear room with no outlook and a frosted window (but I knew this ) but it was a bit noisy as the extractor for the kitchen started up quite early in the morning. Excellent breakfast and dinner choices and the drinks were reasonably priced but I was rather surprised to pay £4 for a small glass of peanuts!! Next time I’ll bring my own!!

Lovely hotel hotel in a fantastic position. I had a single room which was small but had a nice feel and was perfectly clean. The shower pressure was amazing! There were however a few minor issues regarding service. At breakfast our teas and coffees arrived after we’d eaten the cooked breakfast. Also at checkout there was no one attending the reception desk, despite ringing the bell 3 times. I’d still go back though.

Overall another lovely stay at The Kingswood. The lounge is lovely, the quiz a bonus and staff all delightful - special shoutout to Steve who is an asset all round. Lots of personal attention including remembering our son’s name. Breakfast is great quality and tasty with good choice. Room was a bit warm despite radiators being off and there’s no aircon. Windows do open but it can be noisy if you look out onto the car park. A rather noisy rattly fan started up each morning at 7 at the back of the property - I think the kitchen extractor. Didn’t bother us as we are up by then but if you like a lie in it was probably loud enough to wake you. The hotel couldn’t be more convenient for the seafront and town centre, with everywhere easily walkable from it. Free parking is available if you ask early enough.

Kudos to Rajeen (reception) and Mirshad (restaurant) for being so kind and helpful throughout the stay, we felt very welcomed despite some of our unconventional requests! We loved to sleep with sound of the waves behind our window, the whole place manages to be quiet but lively at the same time

It started bad and just got worse. They hadn’t arranged for car parking as requested and although we requested a standard room we were given a compact double. This excluded anywhere to unpack our clothes except for a very small wardrobe for my wife’s dresses and a few of my shirts. No draw space whatsoever. On the second of 3 nights we were abruptly woken up by a figure standing at the bottom of our bed. No not a ghost. Mind a ghost wouldn’t have been so bad. No it was a little old lady only dressed in her night clothes. She was very confused and had wandered into our room and didn’t know what hotel room she was staying in. It transpired that she had been wandering the corridors for over an hour trying all the doors until she found one that was open. I called down to reception hoping to find out which room was hers. The emergency reception number was answered by a temp chef of 2 days, he couldn’t help. I phoned the police for assistance, they phoned the ambulance service who called me back and said they would attend, but it might be several hours before they could get to us. I said not to bother as the hotel staff would be in by then and I would have resolved the issue. 3 hours later the staff did start to arrive and we got the lovely lady returned to her room, all safe and sound. We on the other hand were left shattered and had to cancel our plans for that day. On checkout we were given the money back for the whole stay. Which was a nice gesture.

Stay twice now while on business in Sidmouth great friendly hotel in great position on the sea front and nice walk on the prom after a days work.

I don’t normally do reviews. However The Kingswood fully deserves this. Had a long weekend here. An absolutely amazing hotel right on the seafront of Sidmouth. Asked for a room with seaview and we got it. Room was perfectly sized for us. Plenty of space so it didn’t feel like you were crammed in like some places can be. Bathroom was good size with walk in shower. Left window open all the time so we could listen to the waves, very relaxing and fully recharged the batteries. Food was superb. Arrived on the Friday and had an evening meal. Looked a bit pricey but the quality of the pasta dish I had, and the turkey medallion my wife had quickly made it worthwhile. Same as the Sunday evening meal. We both had the chicken and it was so good I thought about ordering it again! Breakfasts were more than adequate with plenty of choices. Every member of staff we met was very friendly and more than helpful. They always had time to speak to all the guests and make sure everything was ok for them. Fully recommend a stay. Will definitely return here.
