Beautiful location and grounds! The bar and restaurant are also lovely for views, service and quality of food. Hiwever, the rooms (loch-view room) are in need of modernisation with small cracked bathrooms, and more accurately, views of the dam rather than the loch from the room (loch views are available from the balcony though!) Although the spa is nice, it seemed that the thermal suite and steam room weren’t on while we were there. For the price (close to £500 per night) we expected better.

Had a lovely time at Fonab Hotel. The rooms were spacious with comfortable beds. Food was excellent (ate dinner and breakfast), and the spa was outstanding. Staff was friendly and helpful. Highly recommend staying here.

Had an amazing night's stay with dinner and breakfast. The staff were excellent, from reception to restaurant, bar and concierge. We used the pool and jacuzzi which was really relaxing and a big draw for us using the hotel. Would highly recommend.

The staff are the greatest asset. All friendly, helpful and smiling. The food at breakfast and dinner was exceptional. The room was huge - only negative was that it was a big too warm inside because the weather was sunny. No air con ( I don’t think). The grounds are gorgeous and views breathtaking. Extremely handy for Explorers Garden and Pitlochry theatre. Will definitely be back. Great facilities : gym, pool, hit tubs - lovely bar area too.

This is such a nice hotel. We brought our young dog and she was very welcome, they have a cute welcome pack for dogs that includes a bed etc The breakfast was amazing. Our only negatives were that the outside hot tub was not hot enough, when it is 0 degrees outside the hot tub needs to be hot! Our other negative is that there’s a security light outside the lodge rooms that is super sensitive so it came on constantly through the night and the blind couldn’t keep the light out and there was no door on that area of the room either to shut it out.

Stayed for 3 nights in February. The castle and the Woodland Suites (where we stayed) were stunning. The staff were incredible and nothing was a hassle. Mark welcomed us immediately and gave us a very helpful tour of the property. EV charging was free to use - which is becoming increasingly rare even amongst 5* hotels. Breakfast was hearty, tasty and the service perfect. Dinner was equally great. Despite Pitlochry having options to choose from, you’re really in the best spot at Fonab and do not need to leave at all. I am loathed to criticise any part of our stay, but if I were being super critical, the spa facilities were a little tired. Though that said, there was some external refurbishment being conducted, so perhaps that is shortly extending to the interior? We were not staying to take advantage of the spa, so it didn’t bother us too much. Overall a fantastic stay.

Amazing hotel, service was excellent. Loved the gluten free afternoon and individualised breakfast. Hot stone massage was fantastic, pool and facilities great. Room spacious and comfortable, the only problem was the heat with only a small window at the side for air.

My husband and I booked 2 nights at Fonab Castle and we had a wonderful time. We were greeted at the door by very friendly door staff who helped us with our luggage and gave us a tour of the castle. All the staff were extremely friendly and very accommodating . The castle is beautiful and the room was spotless and very grand. We had our dinner and breakfast at the castle which was excellent. We also had spa treatments on our last day, treatments were so relaxing. Would highly recommend Fonab Castle as a stay, we will definitely be planning another trip.

I've never given a negative review for a property, and feel terrible doing it now. That said, I feel like it's my responsibility to let others know that you will not get what you pay for at this hotel. It is definitely not 5-star. First, the positives: The location on the lake is beautiful, and we enjoyed the adjacent walking trail, proximity to the village, and gorgeous views from the lounge and restaurant. In general, I feel like the staff want to be helpful, and David genuinely tried. We liked having the spa, but I'll write more about that. Breakfast was outstanding, even though the service was lacking. Negatives: Quite simply, this hotel is understaffed. Most seemed pleasant, but stressed and unable to fully do their job. Don't expect a concierge or any real help... They either don't know the answers to questions or don't have the time. The spa was nice to have on-site, but one of the hot tubs was always lukewarm or fully drained/empty. We had a Woodland Suite and the room was very dated and SUPER loud. We could hear absolutely everything in the hallway and the TV from the room next to us. Our coffee maker was broken and didn't get fixed or replaced over our three nights there. The bathroom smelled like urine. When we made a complaint about the noise on our first evening, we were told a manager would be advised. No one ever followed up with us. This hotel has great potential and may be the best in the area. It's just not worth the price and definitely not 5-star.

The setting is absolutely stunning and with a few tweaks here and there this would be a fabulous hotel. However, unfortunately there was clearly some sort of mould issue in the bathroom which is not very pleasant and not expected in a 5 star hotel. We also did not receive our evening turn down service and as a result had to go to the reception for new towels etc. We ate in the restaurant for lunch and the food was good, albeit more on the expensive side. Breakfast was also nice. Overal

Fonab Castle is a very special stay, from its lovely grounds, comfortable rooms and excellent lunch and dinner offerings. We were taken on a short tour of the building as we arrived before check in, and this was a special treat. Our friend was in the garden accommodation, and we were in the castle, so we were able to see both options. As expected, both are excellent. The bathroom was lovely, with large towels. We had lunch, dinner and breakfast at Fonab. The lunch and dinner were excellent. However, part of the breakfast was disappointing. The cooked meals were very good, but the tower of three choices could have been better. The pastries were ordinary and there were no spoons for the yoghurt which was served in elegant slender glasses. We would love to stay at Fonab again.

Stunning Hotel in a stunning area with beautiful views over the loch. Very nice restaurants, friendly staff and delicious breakfast. Rooms very clean and well appointed. Would have liked a bigger bath would be the only comment I would make but that's being very picky. Not the cheapest but you certainly get what you pay for.

Booking for afternoon tea for friends not available despite following instructions on their website. Very embarrassing and disappointing for two children in my party. Cobwebs in room. WiFi didn’t work in penthouse and not able to fix. Service was sporadic. Breakfast on second day took around 50 minutes and was very average quality. Not a five star experience. I’ve shared comments with hotel in advance and given a chance to respond. They haven’t. Wouldn’t stay again. Lovely property but needs more/ better trained stafff. Concierge was lovely and only person who appeared to care

Absolutely amazing. Concierge Davie gave us a grand tour with huge Scottish flare. Beautiful views of the river with very clean grounds and rooms. Definitely our favorite stay on our 12 day honeymoon journey. Everything is pricey here but well worth the experience for this level of quality.

A lovely location on the lake amongst the forest unfortunately the rooms are not five star standard they are rather small and don’t have baths or bar fridges. Kindly the hotel upgraded us to a suite which is more the size you would expect for a five star country hotel. The service was mixed the concierge was really lovely and went out of their way however reception were very awkward. They charged us £20 for checking out an hour late when we had told them we going to be late as our baby was sleeping. It was the sort of penny pinching you expect at a roadside travel lodge not a five star hotel. There are lots of better places to stay.

The restaurant staff are not particularly friendly or welcoming this could be improved. We had dirty cutlery and plates each time we sat for a meal and also things missing from the table which we had to ask for such as butter. Service was slow on occasion especially if we wanted to sit outside on the patio. our lodge did not have A/C which made it quite uncomfortable, I understand there is not much need for it in the climate but they can also be used to heat the room as a 5 star hotel I think this is basic and expected. TV WIFI did not work our entire stay and we was also told a fridge would be in our room and it was not. The Concierge was outstanding and very helpful.

The staff are the greatest asset. All friendly, helpful and smiling. The food at breakfast and dinner was exceptional. The room was huge - only negative was that it was a big too warm inside because the weather was sunny. No air con ( I don’t think). The grounds are gorgeous and views breathtaking. Extremely handy for Explorers Garden and Pitlochry theatre. Will definitely be back. Great facilities : gym, pool, hit tubs - lovely bar area too.

This is such a nice hotel. We brought our young dog and she was very welcome, they have a cute welcome pack for dogs that includes a bed etc The breakfast was amazing. Our only negatives were that the outside hot tub was not hot enough, when it is 0 degrees outside the hot tub needs to be hot! Our other negative is that there’s a security light outside the lodge rooms that is super sensitive so it came on constantly through the night and the blind couldn’t keep the light out and there was no door on that area of the room either to shut it out.

The whole stay was fantastic! The staff are ALL so welcoming and friendly, the atmosphere when you walk in is warm. The breakfast was great plenty to choose from as well. The concierges are more than accommodating, the scenery and setting phenomenal. It was peaceful, the bar lounge is comfortable and a gorgeous view - even when it is raining! Bedroom so comfortable and a proper size television in the room too! Tea and coffee amenities and robe and slippers and an umbrella. We will definitely he back sooner rather than later

I've never given a negative review for a property, and feel terrible doing it now. That said, I feel like it's my responsibility to let others know that you will not get what you pay for at this hotel. It is definitely not 5-star. First, the positives: The location on the lake is beautiful, and we enjoyed the adjacent walking trail, proximity to the village, and gorgeous views from the lounge and restaurant. In general, I feel like the staff want to be helpful, and David genuinely tried. We liked having the spa, but I'll write more about that. Breakfast was outstanding, even though the service was lacking. Negatives: Quite simply, this hotel is understaffed. Most seemed pleasant, but stressed and unable to fully do their job. Don't expect a concierge or any real help... They either don't know the answers to questions or don't have the time. The spa was nice to have on-site, but one of the hot tubs was always lukewarm or fully drained/empty. We had a Woodland Suite and the room was very dated and SUPER loud. We could hear absolutely everything in the hallway and the TV from the room next to us. Our coffee maker was broken and didn't get fixed or replaced over our three nights there. The bathroom smelled like urine. When we made a complaint about the noise on our first evening, we were told a manager would be advised. No one ever followed up with us. Fonab Castle is in a beautiful setting. Easy access to other Perthshire towns and a short pleasant walk into Pitlochry . The staff are fantastic and make you feel very welcome.Concierge go above and beyond in helping anyway they can and it was much appreciated. Sandman restaurant closed so ate in 1892 restaurant which had good choice of food and beautifully presented. Breakfast was cooked to order which was lovely.We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. Hopefully next time we can stay for longer.

Booking for afternoon tea for friends not available despite following instructions on their website. Very embarrassing and disappointing for two children in my party. Cobwebs in room. Lovely location and views but the overall experience was quite average. The service throughout was slow, slightly chaotic and disappointing. The hotel bar struggled to serve a drink at 11pm and it lacked atmosphere. Breakfast time wasn’t great - we had been sitting for 20 mins before even a glass of water was produced. My scrambled eggs were grainy, odd textured and inedible. They did provide a dog bed and treats which was nice - but dogs are not allowed anywhere else in the hotel apart from the room which we weren’t aware of. We had a Woodland lodge room as we had a dog and it was ok, the bed comfy but perhaps a little outdated. We discussed our issues at checkout and they offered to have the manager chat to us but they were unavailable but promised a call. This did not happen. Definitely not a 5* hotel and didn’t live up to the price point.

All the staff were excellent and very accommodating. Would stay again as the location was in an Ideal spot for many activities and the gateway to visiting other towns and cities. Will just have to save up 😅😅

Only stayed for one evening but had a lovely stay nonetheless. The hotel is situated a short walk from Pitlochry dam and the town itself so a great location to stay. Must say our room did seem a tad tired and nothing had changed since three years ago when we stayed. Overall slightly overpriced I feel but would stay again

Wonderful setting, delightful room, fantastic staff, great location. Short walk into the centre of Pitlochry across the dam (if your mobility is limited though, do be aware that this route includes steps on an unpaved hillside path and stairs on the dam ‐ take advantage of the lovely transfer service if arriving by train with luggage!)

It was fantastic hotel the setting was stunning definitely 5 star hotel really good food options and very comfortable room and bed. Lovely soft pillow. The whiskey on arrival was a lovely touch as was the amenties such as the little teacake was a lovely touch. The bar was stunning decor was top class. Service was impeccable. My only regret was rhat i did not stay longer. Breakfast was so good and great options.

Fonab Castle is a very special stay, from its lovely grounds, comfortable rooms and excellent lunch and dinner offerings. We were taken on a short tour of the building as we arrived before check in, and this was a special treat. Our friend was in the garden accommodation, and we were in the castle, so we were able to see both options. As expected, both are excellent. The bathroom was lovely, with large towels. We had lunch, dinner and breakfast at Fonab. The lunch and dinner were excellent. However, part of the breakfast was disappointing. The cooked meals were very good, but the tower of three choices could have been better. The pastries were ordinary and there were no spoons for the yoghurt which was served in elegant slender glasses. We would love to stay at Fonab again.

Had an amazing night's stay with dinner and breakfast. The staff were excellent, from reception to restaurant, bar and concierge. We used the pool and jacuzzi which was really relaxing and a big draw for us using the hotel. Would highly recommend.

Loved our superior woodland lodge upgrade,the friendliness of staff,an amazing facial and massage and the tasting menu in the beautiful sandeman dining room. Didn't enjoy our steak . Had to buy sides and steak was tough. All other food fantastic.

Stunning Hotel in a stunning area with beautiful views over the loch. Very nice restaurants, friendly staff and delicious breakfast. Rooms very clean and well appointed. Would have liked a bigger bath would be the only comment I would make but that's being very picky. Not the cheapest but you certainly get what you pay for.

The staff are the greatest asset. All friendly, helpful and smiling. The food at breakfast and dinner was exceptional. The room was huge - only negative was that it was a big too warm inside because the weather was sunny. No air con ( I don’t think). The grounds are gorgeous and views breathtaking. Extremely handy for Explorers Garden and Pitlochry theatre. Will definitely be back. Great facilities : gym, pool, hit tubs - lovely bar area too.

Amazing hotel, service was excellent. Loved the gluten free afternoon and individualised breakfast. Hot stone massage was fantastic, pool and facilities great. Room spacious and comfortable, the only problem was the heat with only a small window at the side for air.

This was our first stop on a 10 day trip through Scotland and it was outstanding. The views from our room were beautiful, the breakfast was fantastic and staff was great. It was easy to park and close to Pitlochry. Would definitely stay here again.
