The property was under construction which is totally fine, but the issues I had were with cleanliness. I took my son in the pool and there was a LOT of debris in the pool including what looked like to be a very green/mildewed looking swiffer pad (I have no idea what it actually was). The shower had the pink mildew in the creases on the wall (although the shower floor was clean and EXTREMELY slippery; my four-year old slipped and fell twice in the shower, once hitting his head on the soap shelf). The staff was very friendly and helpful, though!

The dining area was open and spacious feeling. Breakfast was adequate.They took care to recognize WCU graduates with a decorated wall. The staff person that helped me was very sweet. Prefer 2 elevators to their 1. The climate control equipment in our room made an irritating sound and we had to turn it off.

We came to town to move my daughter into WCU, the area is beautiful! We checked in around 10:30pm and was informed that the elevator was not working (we were on the 3rd floor) and had been moving furniture all day. We would have made other arrangements if we would have known prior to checking in. The mattress cover had a huge blood stain and you could see it through the sheets, and the shower was dirty and slippery. The walls are paper thin and we could hear our neighbors peeing in the bathroom next door.

Heater was loud with gurgling sound. Hotel door and other guests were noisy. Shower curtain was moldy at bottom corner. Otherwise clean and large room. Hotel elevator floor was dirty. Breakfast was good, but wish they had whole grain cereals and bread. Overall, good stay and great location!

From the moment we walked in, the floors looked dirty. The lobby floors looked like they hadn’t been cleaned in a long time. The floor in the elevator was dirty. In our room it looked like the vacuum was only ran over the main area. The edges of the floors were dirty with all kinds of stuff. We even found a pair of contacts on floor! The edges of the shower were grimy with pink stuff. Out of three lights in the bathroom, only 1 worked. Even the bedsheet on our bed was out on wrong! It was put on sideways! This place just really needs a good cleaning.

The staff was all very kind. Our shower wasn’t working properly, so I asked them to look at it and when we came back at the end of the day it was all fixed, so I really appreciated that they took care of it. The room wasn’t completely clean when we arrived. There were used q-tips on the desk and the phone was covered in dust/crumbs/etc… so it wasn’t as sanitized as they claim. The WiFi didn’t work the entire first day and was marginal at best for the remainder of the days. There’s also a terrible cell signal in Sylva, but that’s not the hotel’s fault.

We could hear everything in the room next to us. Tv, talking. That’s irritating. The beds were terrible because they squeaked. How is that possible. Any move and they squeaked. The room was also a handicap room so that was definitely different for us because the bathroom had no counter space. We will not stay there again.

Excellent two night stay at the Comfort Inn Sylva. The location is close to WCU with plenty of amenities to make your stay enjoyable. This was the best night's sleep I've ever had at a hotel. Very quiet!

This is a central location for the area with a lot of restaurants close. However, it’s the second time I haven’t had a good sleep due to the noise of the A/C unit. Also, it wasn’t running properly so the room was warmer than desired. On the upside, the staff is always great to guests.

The only problem we had with our 2 night stay was the tv. The volume of the tv was low very hard to hear some one came to try to fix it but couldn’t. There were no buttons on the sides of tv to try to adjust also no one could get the captions off.

Very clean room, no issues TV control with two different remotes very confusing, contacted front desk, they sent a staff person to instruct usage. Parking with a boat trailer a little tight, a few wider spaces needed.

The staff was great but not adequately staffed especially for breakfast. The young guy in kitchen worked diligently to keep up with all the guests. One of the baseball players helped stock utensils. Upon check in we walked into a room that had not been cleaned at all from previous guest. Took our cart full of luggage down to lobby. We and 2 other guests had issues with both keys working. One key worked but not both for the 1st or 2nd room. Again, staff working were all very nice and helpful just not adequately staffed.

Overall Rating: Terrible My stay at Comfort Inn Sylva - Cullowhee was deeply unsettling due to serious security concerns. Around 2:00 AM, I encountered a homeless man right next to the elevator. The situation left me feeling extremely frightened and unsafe, as there was no hotel staff in sight to address it. Shockingly, when I passed by the same area around 7:00 AM on my way to breakfast, the same individual was still there, sleeping in the guest resting area by the elevator. This is a major security lapse. Guests should never have to feel violated or unsafe in a hotel, especially when paying for a secure and comfortable stay. The absence of front desk staff during these critical hours only heightened my concern. I strongly urge hotel management to take immediate action to ensure guest safety, including increased security measures and staff availability at all times. Until then, I cannot recommend this property.

Check-In was awful. They ran my credit card 4 times due to a “room error” in their computer. Once the attendant worked the issue out and my balance was $0, she left the front desk to go check our room to make sure no one else was in it. WHAT??? She came back with an all clear. I got to the room and received a text message from my bank stating a fraud alert with my card. I couldn’t use my card the rest of the trip. Huge inconvenience trying to move a college student into the dorms and not being able to purchase food and supplies. I just arrived home and checked my bank account. The hotel charged me twice!

If you are visiting a child at Western Carolina University, this is the best hotel that we have stayed at. New and equidistant from the university and downtown Sylva. Easy access to Walmart or grocery stores if you need. Staff is always polite and the hotel is always clean.

We liked the room, breakfast, and location. We had a bad experience related to check in. When the reservations were made we selected an accessible room and called the resort about 3 weeks ahead of time to confirm our needs and were told that a room would be provided on the second floor which included grab bars in the shower. When we arrived we were offered a room on the third floor which was not accessible. After some discussion we were changed to a room on the second floor. After we moved into the room, another party opened the door and they were surprised that we were there. They went back down stairs to check in and were assigned to another room. The next morning we noted that we couldn't get back into our room and went back to check in to get our key reprogramed. Apparently when the other party that also was assigned to the same room had their key changed to a different room, our keys were also erased. Not a good way to start a vacation. The motel was a nice place to stay but the front desk personal need some additional training.

By 7:00 AM, the individual was still sleeping on the hotel couch near the elevator, raising serious safety and sanitation concerns. Staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was larger than expected and very clean and prepped with extra touches that made it feel inviting. The TV and mini fridge were both updated. The only room flaw was the shower head needed last rites as it was leaking everywhere. The only gripe is the breakfast- I arrived at 8:40 and there was almost nothing left and no one attending. 4-5 people after me had cold cereal with sour milk as their only option. Left at 9:10 and someone showed up to help as I was leaving .

Great location. Clean and well maintained. Room as described. Breakfast includes hot items: scrambled eggs, sausage, potatoes, as well as waffles. Plus all of your cold choices: yogurt, fruit, cereal. Recommend this location for a short or long stay.

The hotel is under renovations. Check in desk attendant was pleasant. Housekeeping is not automatic but we did ask for housekeeping as we knew we would need towels. Our room was fairly clean. A few lamps were missing light bulbs. We did find a sleeping mask beside the bed, so I’m not sure how much deep cleaning happens. The breakfast was questionable. No waffle batter, no fruit, no eggs. The morning front desk attendant was outside smoking and crafting when I went to inquire. We also did not receive any clean towels or housekeeping, but was given them when requested. I would definitely look for other accommodations for future visits.

The location of this hotel is great if you are needing to be closer to WCU. It's across the street from WalMart and a few other food options as well. The hotel is a very nice, newer looking property. Check is was easy, and the front desk clerk was very friendly and even came up to our room at 10 pm to switch out a cable box that was not working. Rooms were clean and the bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was a little lacking, not many options, but it is free. I would definitely stay here again.
