Catalina Canyon Inn

Very disappointing stay, not worth the price Our room was extremely dirty: the sheets and blankets had obvious stains, including blood on the blanket and dark spots on the pillows and sheets. It was clear they hadn’t been changed before we arrived. The internet was so slow that I had to use my phone’s hotspot the entire time. The TV was outdated with very few channels. One of the biggest issues was that the hotel was under construction, which was not communicated beforehand. The lobby and advertised amenities were unavailable. Only the pool and a small restaurant were open. The online photos are misleading because they show facilities that you can’t actually use right now. The location is far from Avalon and the free shuttle is very unreliable. When we arrived, we waited over an hour for the shuttle but it never came, so we had to walk up a steep hill with our luggage for about 20 minutes. We paid a high price expecting a full-service hotel with all the amenities shown online, but we got none of that. I do not recommend staying here until they finish construction and improve their housekeeping and services.

Super clean room! Hotel has a very convenient free shuttle service from 7AM to 9:45PM. It's a gray Toyota Sienna that seats 5 max btw. Pool is open until 9PM and gym is open until 10PM! They have board games at the lobby you can check out and a ping pong table you can use near their restaurant. The location is about a 15 min walk uphill from Avalon, not bad! They can't hold luggage unfortunately, so if you get to Catalina early in the day and have extra bags, use Avalon Blue Line Baggage near the docks. They charge $10 for small bags and $13 for large suitcases to be held all day until they close at 7PM. It's $4 surcharge for each bag held overnight just FYI.

This property is clean, there are staff members constantly walking around and sweeping, completing maintenance tasks. You can tell that they are diligent about keeping the property at its best. The restaurant onsite makes things so convenient, especially if you're traveling with kids. The pool is also a convenient amenity. Even after being at the beach all day, it's nice to take a swim . The shuttle offered to and from the shops and the hotel, are convenient. Overall, it was a great experience if youre looking for a quiet getaway with options.

This property has potential to be great but we were disappointed by several things. Biggest issue: We called the front desk prior to arrival to confirm the property was fully accessible via wheelchair. The room and pool were both confirmed to be wheelchair accessible. It is NOT. The room and hotel itself has an elevator but the pool and restaurant are not wheelchair accessible. There is a ramp that leads towards the pool and restaurant but every path has steps at the end. This can be a huge problem for a lot of people and I can’t imagine why this hasn’t been brought up yet. The hotel thankfully offers a free town shuttle which is nice because you are not close to food/stores. The shuttle service overall was useful and we waited about 20 minutes each time to get our rides. Walking down to the Main Streets of town isn’t bad but the hills coming up are steep. The shuttle is a Toyota sienna van and luggage space is tight. The room was clean and safe but we realized there was no conditioner one morning which made me question housekeeping quality. In addition, there were only 2 towels left by the pool during a busy evening and it took a kind gentlemen going up to ask the front desk twice for the towels to be refilled. Overall, the property itself is cute. It has nice lounge areas and tables around to sit at but the failure to be accessible and hospitality flaws will cause us to never return.

Enjoyed the complimentary shuttle service and the drivers were so nice. I do wish the restaurant was open and they still had the jacuzzi. The rooms are newly renovated and the bed is really comfortable.

Felt remote like a mountain resort but was only a short walk or free shuttle ride away from everything in town. Quiet and restful. The hotel bar was cheaper than town and a nice place to end the day. Breakfast at the restaurant was great and served until 2pm! Pool was heated to 75 degrees which felt warm enough for swimming but we ran out of time. Rooms were updated but not fancy.

We had a lovely stay at the Catalina Canyon Inn. The staff were amazing and the place was very clean. The room was bright and beautiful. The pool was heated! It's a rarity nowadays. The restaurant had good food and was reasonably priced too. The only down sides were the tiny fitness room that smelled of stale sweat and the missing hot tub (it looked as if it was covered over and now used as seating). I think there used to be more to the facility at one point (like a real spa service with massage, etc). It is still an amazing place to stay (but the room refrigerator was very, very loud - bring earplugs if you're a light sleeper).

Great service from beginning to end. Shuttle drivers were super friendly. Beautiful grounds. Relaxing environment. The room was gorgeous, very spacious and super comfortable. We didnt get a chance to use the pool, but saw several people who seemed to be enjoying it. The outdoor games that are available are a great touch and added fun. We will definitely be back.

The only hotel on the island with a pool. Nice staff, good food.

The gym was really dirty. The water cooler had mold on it and the floor all around was really dirty. Equipment was dusty. Our shower smelled moldy and there and the grout was dirty. The room was ok and pleasant enough. The staff were nice. It's pretty far from town though so you have to take the shuttle or walk about 15 minutes into town.

Although we did not fully utilize the hotel's amenities, we did enjoy our stay. Our room was clean and spacious. Hotel staff were friendly, helpful and courteous. Shuttle service was useful and appreciated.

Quaint place with pool and a convenient and savory restaurant. There were a lot of aunts in our room and the tile in the shower was moldy 😦

Pool was decent. The front of the property looks nice. The front desk looks nice. The hotel is prob a 8 or 9 min walk into town if you can't wait for the 6bseater van( usually only one on duty except for check out days like sat or sun). We waited only one time to head into town for 35 min. The other times were approx 15 min. As it got busier we would have to wait in line as others in groups were before us. I'll get back to the shuttles later. The staff were friendly enough. For the rooms they were nice at first glance. The balconies were nice. The beds were comfortable. Sheets did have a stain on it but we didn't see that until we got into bed the first night. The bathrooms are lit properly and we had enough toiletries. This is where the good ends unfortunately. The room had cracks in the grout. There was mold around the shower door. There were ants in our room. To be fair we had the option of moving but we were already unpacked and settled in and who knows the condition of the next room. They sprayed the room for us instead while we were out. That seemed to get rid of the ants. Finally We had an issue where one of the vans had ice cream that had fallen onto the seats and floor. The van driver didn't notice it or clean it between guests. Well me and my fiance sat and walked in it. When we complained about it to the staff told us to see a manager in the am. When I did they offered 50 dollars off the check. The pants cost 100 and the dress was 150.

The hotel is clean and the staff is attentive. The room is spacious and comfortable, with a mini-refrigerator and a balcony. The bedspread had a yellowish stain on it. I asked the front desk to change it, but they didn't. I went back to the front desk to ask for it, and then they sent the maid to put on a clean one.

The room was dirty had eye lash on the toilet seat so they didn’t clean it very good

Really nice, clean and the shuttle service was amazing! Only issue was our room was infested with ants. Didn’t seem like they were ants that bite so we it wasn’t too big of an issue and we didn’t say anything but they were everywhere including the bed. Very nice property besides this.

This place is a gem. Only thing I did not like was that although the bathroom looked updated it felt dingy and smelled bad.

We stayed for 5 nights, our room was not cleaned once. We left the sign on the door every day for service please. Twice they came at 5:30pm while we were showering after the beach. The other three times they came in and gave us fresh towels. Only twice did they empty the trash. We never got clean sheets, the bathroom was never cleaned, not vacuuming. After 5 days at the beach it was filthy. I heard other guests complain at the front desk and they were told if anything was left around the room or on the bed they wouldn’t clean!!! Uh what?! The property was nice enough and quiet, the restaurant was good and the shuttle was relatively easy.

Great stay except for the thin walls. Hard to sleep with what sounded like people jumping/hammering above us until 1am. Other than that, very clean and great friendly service at the front desk.

Staff was very responsive to my requests for extra items. Unfortunately, our TV signal constantly was partially or totally interrupted.

We had a great time. Very comfortable and clean accommodations. We had the family room, room was modern and spacious. Staff was polite, I only would wish there was a table to sit and eat with the family in the room.

We loved our stay at Catalina Canyon Inn. It's up the hill from the noise and hustle and bustle in a quiet area near nature. Room are not big, but clean and with balconies/terraces. Front staff was lovely. The all day running hotel shuttle to and from town/pier was convenient and super friendly. Highly recommend!

Our refrigerator didn’t work well and our ice melted 😢.

Very comfortable accommodations. The staff made us feel like family. Ophelia at the front desk suggested we store our luggage and then she phoned us to let us know our rooms were ready. The shuttle drivers were absolutely the best. Like having a personal chauffer each time. The hotel is plenty walkable but in a slightly hilly area. The restaurant is newly reopened with a full menu in a beautiful rustic/casual setting. Waitstaff was great.

The Catalina Canyon Inn was perfect. Is was clean and a perfect location for sightseeing. The shuttle drivers were wonderful. Not only did they take us where we wanted to go but provided us with helpful information about Catalina Island.

The property was under construction they had no lobby to check in at all. They turn one of the rooms into a checking in lobby very awkward. The place was under construction while we were there. We asked for a room away from all the noise they gave us a room right next to the construction site. The room was never clean when asked about house keeping they said they have a strict policy about not entering room if the luggage was open. I’ve never heard of such a thing. I was very disappointed overall with this place. Never coming here again.

Everything and everyone was really nice especially Jackie. She made our check in easy and fast.

We wasted a lot of time waiting for the shuttle driver-over 45 minutes on two different days. When we expressed our displeasure, he told us the shuttle was free and if we did not like the wait time to order a cab. Then he sped up the hill like a maniac. I asked to speak to a manager, but none were available. Spent the remaining trip spending money on a cab or walking. Would not stay here again.

The property location was perfect. We walked everywhere. The shuttle service was very quick and the guys were easy to get a hold of. the hotel lobby was under renovation but they were still very helpful. we got there at 11am and were able to leave our luggage at the hotel and walk around town which was nice. the only issue I had was that our room didn't get cleaned. It was already 6pm and no one came to clean the room or give us clean towels. when when we did request it, they did come. overall i had a great experience and would definitely go back there to stay.

The two ladies working day shift at the front desk are very rude and unfriendly when we checked in on 6/26/24, they both had a mad look on their faces all day, seems like they are not getting enough paid or were force working long hours, at least that how they acted like, on multiple times we walk by the front desk and saw they were acting up with other guesses too while those guesses were inquired about something that needed for their room we heard. The gentlemen working night shift is nice and seems to appreciate his job. Overall the hotel is nice and clean.

Great peaceful place to stay in a mountain top, short walk to downtown (it’s on an uphill but they have shuttle you could just call at anytime). Overall it was an excellent family stay.

It's a bit far from downtown

Great hotel for the price. Good food and drink, super for families with nice pool and outdoor games. Only downfall is it is up a steep hill on the outskirts of town, and the shuttle only seats 5.

To far from the beach

Staff was not very friendly and the place needs renovation. Very expensive for the room we got with no views. It's far from everything and need to wait for a small shuttle that is always packed.

Amazing scenery and great for watching sunrise , sunset and stars. The town is a short walk with transportation available and a cool little store nearby. The staff was great and so friendly and the pool was a perfect way to end a day of travel.

Hotel was 20 minutes from the dock but it was uphill. Hotel provided a shuttle at a designated spot. Wait was a little long but much better than walking.

The hotel is wonderful, staff is friendly and attentive. Location is inconvenient and only way there is using their mini van-shuttle (call the hotel for the drivers number) or hiking up in dark streets with no sidewalk. It is on the city outskirts. Even for the low guest volume days, there were times where we or others had to wait in the cold for the next shuttle because it was full. I can’t imagine how inconvenient that is during peak season.

Nice property but little far from the downtown.

Rooms are nice enough, front desk staff is friendly, the grill is decent and gives good portions. You're really just limited by how out of the way it is from everything else. On a map it doesn't look too but, but it's up a hill which is inconvenient when carrying luggage. There is a convenient shuttle, but they only pick up and drop off at a couple specific locations

The property and host were Awesome. The only really down point, and it was a very large down point is that we were not allowed in the bar area because of a private party. We picked this hotel specifically because we wanted to be able to stay at the facility and enjoy the evening at the bar without having to travel. In my opinion they should offer us another night free for not letting us enjoy what is advertised on their websites and more. Lady at the front desk was very nice. We went to check-in before check-in time and since our room was not ready she upgraded our room and got us in right away. Room and beds were clean, comfortable and nice. We ate at the restaurant multiple times and food and service was excellent.

The property is up the hill and away from the busy downtown. They provide a shuttle to and from town and the shuttle staff are great. If you golf, you are walking distance from the golf course. The have a pool. The food at their on-site restaurant is delicious. Everyone at the property is friendly and there to help.
